I have known the band since Tear Gas days (pre-Alex). After one gig in Liverpool, they were staying at the hotel where I was working as a chef. We had a post-gig bash then I stayed over as I was working at 6am. I cooked their breakfast then went over to see if they were ok. I hadnt told them I was working there and they were blown away! They wrote the song for me on the next album. I still havent recovered 32 years on.
You mean. ..its all YOUR fault! First heard in 4th form 1978? Learned the word Panache trying to describe these boys Music largely been downhill since then -- Salut!
It is very clear that this is in fact very much an anti-war song and a bloody brilliant one at that. It hints of the deep state behind the scenes cooking up the "stew" which we eat up without thinking who made it and what is in it. It seems clear that the phrase "give my compliments to the chef" is metaphorical albeit very rightly highly sarcastic acknowledgement of the deceptive and evil puppet masters playing us all off against each other while they profit from the resulting conflicts.
All these comments are years old, so I thought I would leave a note to say Still listening in 2020 Greatest band EVER Zal still rockin with Zal Cleminsons sin dogs
@@dianecheraghi-sohi6305 I just got done watching SAHB on Don Kirshners rock concert when I saw this post. One I hadn't seen before, and I thought I saw them all. Coincidence? Or something else.
Saw them open for Jethro Tull in 1975 and had never even heard of them prior. Zal Cleminson was about the coolest guitar player I’d ever seen up to that time. Went right out and bought the album “Tomorrow Belongs to Me.” I’m about to turn 67 now and still have it on vinyl. Great album.
I rate this as one of the finest, if not THE finest, video performances ever. Everything about SAHB is sensational with the extraordinary time signatures and virtuoso playing, the lyrics, the theatricality of it all and above all the greatest rock frontman of all time. And they're scots - you cannae get better! This is what made me waste most of my life trying to be a rock star!!!!It was worth it - still in awe. Thanks Historyman and what an amazing story of the origin of this song.
Alex Harvey was without doubt the best frontman of all time and I have seen them all. When I saw him in Liverpool in the seventies, the audience clapped for 20 minutes for him to come back!
Alex was a fantastic front man and l saw SAHB support Slade in the early 70s and Noddy Holder was equally as good a front man. I was lucky enough to see them both on the same bill!
STUNNING, as it was the first time I seen it in the 70's Alex and the band will live on forever thanks to UA-cam. Thank goodness as young folks do not know what they missed. The golden days of Rock!
Love this band, only got into them five years ago. Have gone down the rabbit hole since then listening to everything they made. Cant believe this band weren't international given their quality and originality. Interesting coincidence, that OGWT performance went out the very day i was born: 30th May 1975.
I grew up with SAHB and met Alex backstage at Reading festival. I said could you write a song about the SNP and then he told me to fuck off...vambo rools ok!!!!
Saw them LIVE when I was 17. Leicester Dr Montfort... Amazing and still a much more amazing show than a Coldplay audience of 1,000s nowadays .... sadly missed greatly enjoyed thanks to you tubers.....
Musically cut from the same wonderfully melodic but kick-ass cloth as UFO's best songs, but with a streak of Tom Waits artistic craziness. Absolute genius. Never matched.
In 1974 I had the pleasure of following the SAHB US tour in which my high school buddy Mark played bag pipes. I miss Alex's mad genius, remember he got his start sharing a flat with Bolan and Bowie. His creativity for juxtapose is unmatched in his era. Still in my top ten.
Ohhh boy thats some great guitar riffing by Zal Cleminson. Give My Compliments to Zal Give My Compliments to Zal Give My Compliments to Zal . any old time
Ted Mckenna. Sadly passed away during surgery early last year. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform with Rory Gallagher in 1980 in Wellington, NZ. He was a fine drummer
Zal Cleminson ..... Sleeve notes on Tomorrow Belongs to Me - 'I am probably the best guitarist in the world' I remember seeing SAHB for the first time at the Liverpool Empire back in 1973. Zal did his 'solo' in Vambo and that is the moment when I decided I was going to play guitar.
Yep, I saw them on TV back in the early 70's and Vambo did it for me too. He's is an incredible guitarist and vastly underrated. Also, bands like Kiss, ACDC stole their acts from these guys.
*@John Reynolds* Wonder what copy of "Tomorrow Belongs To Me" you've got , because I never saw such a silly statement on any copy of "Tomorrow Belongs To Me" ........◾🖐
Words cant describe the impact this band hand on my own musical upbringing ... The SAHB were musical pioneers , every song and the characters within were larger than life ... I still mourn his passing but the music brings me back to that special place where still , 'Vambo Rules' in 'Hot City '!!!
Never rated this band until I heard Midnight Moses a few months ago.Now I,m going through their back catalogue and there are so many gems in there.Sensational indeed.
Simply amazing lyrics, serious and funny at the same time, and all those contrasting time signatures and very unpredictable changes everywhere...wow!!!!!!!!!

Richard Baker there is a clip on you tube somewhere of the band performing which features Zal without make-up ! With the greatest respect to a great guitarist . . . . . . He's more frightening without it 😨
The best band I seen at the "Old" Cleveland Ohio Agora Ballroom...and I seen a lot of bands there!! This has got to be one of the "Great" bands that never recieved it's just rewards!! Shame...God Bless you Alex...I for one Loved You and your "Sensational Band"!!!!
I love them. What a great band. McKenna, Alex, Zal, and Chris. I have some LP:s. The best song they did, is Amos Moses. I think it was only on the LP, the best of, dont remeber, but the live on YT, is magic. Love you all here. SAHB, is one of the greatest band as ever have been on the earth. Hug brothers and sisters.
When I saw them/him it was when he was “building things”, he was building things in the front of the stage and by the end was standing on top of a pyramid performing while the band was on stage being their great combo of musicians; and it was a striking, brilliant and perfect prologue to John Cale when he was “Ready for War” and Deerfrance was with him; this was also during one of his PPE face mask orderly period of stage dress. Man, that was a night of musical hero worship. I hope I have the lineup correct as there was a stream of touring bands at their peak when Alex Cooley’s Electric Ballroom was nonstop excellence in time and place.

This is my favorite SAHB tune, I just wish the camera would show more of the band in action
Five excellent musicians at the top of their game - superb.
Well said. So tight so perfect. Loved the McKennas. I never tire of listening
This performance makes me ache with nostalgia for the 70's. It is beyond wonderful ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The greatest front man of all time.
Possibly the only great band in the world you could never second guess, EVERY song was totally different and played to the max. LEGENDS.
OUTSTANDING! ....I remember seeing this on the telly as a kid, didn't get it then but my goodness it's now my favourite all time rock song.
I got nothing but love for this band. Incredible, talented, amazing, originality, entertaining music and a show. RIP Alex.
Always makes hairs on back of neck tingle this one!
This and "faith healer","delilah","tomorrow belongs to me", "vambo", "(the giant) stoneater", "framed"...
The greatest showman. R.I.P.
They should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
Yess they were a Super Group like led zeppelin..!
They are in the true RNR Hall of fame. Our hearts. Cheers.
Robert Smith brought me here
Absolutely
If there is no SUCH group in the Hall of Fame, then there is no Hall of Fame.
Have always loved that heavy part that starts at 3:33. So kick ass.
Awesome! What a great song. The music industry could sorely use a genius like this today-Alex you are missed terribly!
Goosebumps! Why oh why was Alex not filmed more? He was sensational.
Alex Harvey was incredibly underrated as an artist! This was my favorite song from SAHB!
Scots brilliance just beautiful.!!
Of All the many fantastic British bands these are the best.

Loved this band - always remember Alex introducing Zal as "a young accordionist from Huddersfield"
SAHB , Glasgow’s finest 👍👍👍🏴🏴🏴
This is one of my favorite cuts by the SAHB. Hugh's keyboard work was off the hook on this. Rest in power Alex, Hugh, and Ted.

So Glad I Got To See SAHB Back In 1977.
A brilliant band ahead of their time and displayed a different approach to theatre rock. This band is in my top five rock bands of all time ...
The SAHB make me proud to be Scottish. Truly the greatest rock band ever. Thanks Historyman for this piece of legendary footage

SAHB at the top of their game in 1975. Seen this clip many times but it still delivers. Best band seen live ever
