before they started putting music into categories like country, rock, r&b, back when you could have Slade, ABBA, Crystal Gayle, Andy Williams, The Wurzles, Deep Purple, Madness and David Soul all on one programme. Today we miss some good sounds because it doesn't make the mainstream.
I picked this as the entrance song to my dads funeral a few years back. He was such a big Fan of TSAHB and the man himself. I’m so glad that his fantastic taste in music rubbed off on me.
I visited the UK from the US in June 1976 and saw this performance on “Top of the Pops”. For some reason this song remained permanently in my brain even though I never heard it again till just now after finding it on UA-cam 44 years later!
One of the best live acts ever … an this is probably the only rock song to reference George Washington’s wooden teeth. Alex flung his net far and wide when it came to lyrical inspiration. There can never be another.
Found these guys last week and am absolutely addicted and blown away by the heaps of talent I had missed. Zal is still kicking ass with his Sin Dogs - I’m in time for a taste at least!
Heard it on the radio whilst in hospital last week. Not heard it for about 40 years. Always thought I must have imagined it. Didnt realise it was Alex Harvet band. Great to hear it once again Thanks.
I remember the first time I heard this I actually also the remember the first time I DANCED to it. Back in my Club Days or Nights lol I can remember even walking while it was playing and watching others and aware of it or not people walked to the beat. Alex was incredible Talented and gave his all. His version of Brel's NEXT blew my mind. I wish I had seen them LIVE but Unfortunately not. But I feel privileged to be able to say I lived on this Earth at the same time Alex Harvey was creating. Thanks Mr A Harvey xxxx
That was a great post Victoria.I liked SAHB when I was a t,ager in the 70s and I've just rediscovered them. I can't believe what good taste in music I had!
Brilliant track brilliant band... Alex oozes Glasgow.... Just has that look (do not mess with me) great music very cool stuff... Thank you for posting... Regards from Glasgow :)
Remembering Alex Harvey born on February 5, 1935. He was a Scottish rock and blues musician. He is best remembered as the front-man of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Harvey_(musician)
I remember watching "Tear Gas" many times in Lanarkshire doing the circuit, Trocadero Hamilton, Lanark Palace, Bellshill YMCA, Motherwell Late Night a Great Band then before they teamed up with Alex, a Sensational Band after teaming up with Alex Harvey, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, a very fitting name for them.
Shout out to my modern world history teacher, Mr. Patterson. He tortured us with this song in our class, and every single time before he would play this he would play this he’d ask “ WHO’S GOIMG TO THE PARTY??????”and everyone would groan. Thanks a lot, Pat. You’re the best.
Absolutely brilliant guy from Scotland. A big loss for the world. He inspired many others, including Bon Scott, another brilliant product of Scotland. Why am I born in Sweden?
Saw them at the Vetch Field Swansea in the Seventies ! Absolutely brilliant ! The Who topped the billing that night but to me and many others there that day , Alex Harvey blew the rest apart !! Nice Video 😊
Cracking sunny day at the Vetch field The Who with The Sensational Alex Harvey Band and Little Feat among other bands, great day. The Alex Harvey Band were hard to out do that day.
This is a message on behalf of a once great fan but now sadly departed; Wayne Vickory, stand up and be counted man for he loved this band when I didn't but I do now all the way from Bowen Island, BC. !
Showing my age, but i remember goin to watch 'Slade' in the early 70's in Hanley & SAHB were the support band, completely blew me away, what a band !, the best lead singer i have ever seen, RIP Alex.
I saw them in 1976 with The Who in Wales in a football stadium. SAHB performed this song as their new single and there was Keith Moon with The Who. WOW what a combination. I walked 10 miles from the train station that night, like it was nothing. Brilliant.
Got all their albums! My favourite live band! Saw them a few years ago in Adelaide without Alex (RIP) loud and tight I remember sitting on Chris Glen's lap having a beer or two great night good blokes, love this song off the Stories album
This should be required viewing for any USA citizenship course. He tells us why we drink so much coffee as compared to tea. Tells about our 1st president's wooden teeth. Terrific stuff!
I remember jack Docherty & moray hunter from channel 4 comedy show Absolutely back in the 90s choosing this one to play on the radio when they were being interviewed about their show. I liked it then.
Covered by Fish in 1993 on the album "Songs in the Mirror". I put both in my Fish playlist. Thanks for the upload -- these guys aren't really known here in the USA.

Reminds me of my older brother watching The Old Grey Whistle Test in the 1970s. It was on quite late, and Black Sabbath were on, so he turned it up. Our Dad was trying to sleep in the room above, and banged on the ceiling in protest. My brother turned it up to full volume, so Dad came down shouting "Fucking turn it down, I need to be up early for work tomorrow". My brother replied "Oh sorry, I thought you were joining in so I turned it up". To this day, Dad still hasn't forgiven "whispering fucking Bob Harris" for TOGWT!
Lawrence Keegan i was there as well at Parkhead. The Who headlined and there was also the (something something) Streetwalkers. A really good band. But there was a fourth band. Any recollection?
Zappa once said that The Sensational Alex Harvey Band was one of the two best live bands in the world. His,of course, being the other one. AHB were.indeed,sensational.
Agreed...this is a better version than the release...thanks for posting. But, this reminds me of my ex who is a descendant of the guy who rode with Paul Revere, William Dawes...oh well!
Oh I love this, I've lived in Ibiza for 17 years but never forget my roots🏴
🎉❤
This was my youth loved this band. Another singer gone too soon. Fell in love with Alex a bit x
The 70s. Possibly the best decade to listen to music. Great era.
Not possibly. Definitely.

From 1962 to 1976 was a great era.
I picked this as the entrance song to my dads funeral a few years back. He was such a big Fan of TSAHB and the man himself. I’m so glad that his fantastic taste in music rubbed off on me.

+Charles Cross I saw the same gig at Celtic Park in Glasgow. It was brilliant. :-)
+Charles Cross That might have been Swansea.
+TaffmanGuyo
It was Swansea, football stadium. I went Bristol Temple Meads to Swansea by Intercity train.
+Charles Cross 12th June, 1976 rode from my boarding school on the back of a Kawasaki 250cc instead of prepping for A levels. Worth it!
Vetch Field , old home of Swansea City Football Club , that event is still talked about all these years later .
Glasgow screaming at me ❤
A song AND a history lesson!
Swansea June 76, supporting The Who, what a day!
I was 14 - I had no idea!! Haha

Legends
I saw SAHB when they was the support band for Slade in 1972. When they did Delilah everyone went wild. They must have known they had made it.
Right Glasgow ❤
SAHB perfectly captured Alex's love for J. Fennimore Cooper and the tales of the New World being stolen from the original people.
this was in the charts just after I left school in 1976
Look at the way he pulls a face and says "partyyy" at 24 seconds.....that's personality.
Hello
Hello

Sensacional mesmo!
1976 - the best summer ever. Saw these guys live at Celtic Park and then spent a week in Torquay with five of my Glasgow mates - halcyon days indeed.

can you remember when musicians were musicians al the finished in the late 70s
Don't think I've ever heard this before. Kinda cool though.
