It was an absolute treat and a blast to reconnect with you Lindsay. So awesome to share our passions about art supplies and how things have evolved over the years. So happy to see your success and know you. Here’s to another decade of great friendship and art. Thanks again for having me on your awesome podcast!!
Hi Marty! I have been wondering for some time when you and Steve were going to do another video about art supplies so I was super happy to see you here. You three are the best! I research every single art supply before I buy because there is no money to waste and the time is well spent, especially when there are reliable honest people like the three of you to go to for the best available info. As a fellow Minnesota, I never thought about how stiff the competition is for the State Fair, so thanks for the heads up; if I ever venture an attempt I will brace myself for rejection😨! We have had really mild temps in the central part of the state. I am not a fan of winter so I hope the weather man isn't just toying with us and that these warmer temps stick around til spring.
I love to hear you guys talk about art. The best advice I got from a friend was to buy Prisma Colored Pencils. They really turned my kids art up a notch. I purchased Kuretake Gansai Tambi 48 on your recommendation for my 14 year old for Christmas and she was ecstatic.
Thanks for mentioning my channel, Lindsay and Marty. What a surprise to be included in this fun chat between friends about a topic we all love: ART SUPPLIES!
Of course you know I watched. Two of my earliest and most welcoming contacts (and friends) when I first started UA-cam. Great discussion Lindsay and Marty!
I saw this comment and saw the words, “…and friends…”, and instantly knew it was you Steve. You’re the artist and man I aspire to be. Love to you and the family my brother.
If there was a "love" button I'd hit it twice! I am loving these podcast type videos with other artists. You never cease to amaze me Lindsey (ay?). Yet another format for you to continue to enrich us, teach us, and yes nourish us with quality content that has real value. Great stuff. Thank you so much for what you do. ALL if what you do!
Lindsay, The Frugal Crafter is my safe place. That kind of sounds flippant, but, I really mean that. You, and some others are actually a huge part of my mental health.
Same. Got me through cancer, and 5 years later I'm well. In a world of upheavel and mass-infighting, the few comforting people and places are very important! Thank you for years of consistancy. You matter. On a side note, love the podcast/blogcast.
My god man you made me choke up. I actually have tears in my eye. What better compliment could you give a human than, "You've made a difference". God bless you. Takes one hell of a man to give props to an amazing lady.
I love Marty! He’s true and authentic. We share the same common sense in the fact that you should save and buy better quality products for art ~ especially 100 % cotton paper. I used some 25 % cotton thinking it would be okay and wouldn’t you know, when I laid down a second layer of paint the first layer lifted up. I couldn’t finish the painting like I wanted to because I couldn’t glaze. I was painting a deer and it almost ruined my painting. Marty is right about buying better products. I too love Daniel Smith, Schmincke, Sennelier, and M. Graham. I have all of them. You can’t buy better. I’m not rich but I just get them for my birthday or Christmas. Anyway, thank you Marty for your awesomeness and for being such a great UA-cam contributor! I only wish you’d post more! 😁
Love seeing you guys together! You, Marty (and Steve) are my "go to's" for reviews, lessons and professional insights into my medium of choice, watercolor. When it comes to reviews, the integrity each of you bring to the table is beyond measure and I appreciate that in the end, you acknowledge that we are all unique and you encourage us to do "us". I can't say enough about the joy and positivity you all bring to the art community. Thank you!
Lindsey is so right Martie I often watch UA-cam videos but will re-watch them and have them on in the background either when I’m doing something or when I’m falling asleep because I feel comforted that I’m not alone.
6 years ago, when I switched from acrylics to watercolor, you were the first youtuber I found. I started painting acrylics with Cinnamon Cooney, and she directed me to you. Thank you for all you have taught me over the years!
I'm loving this vodcast, Lindsay and Martin! Just a friendly distinction....Lindsay is the FRUGAL crafter NOT the CHEAP crafter. She will always look for the highest quality for the best deal for the right use for the right product.. ❤
Hullo Lindsay & Marty! I hope you both realize how wonderful it is to hear from you both on a myriad of topics that touch all of us. Thank you. I hope Lindsay gets enough feedback and audience participation to keep this series going!
This is awesome, what a great interview. I remember you, Marty and Steve in the beginning. There are so many art channels now that are just trying to sell me their products which to me is a turn off. I hope you do a podcast with Steve Mitchell that would be so cool.
I spent so much money, buying cheaper budget supplies, and still wishing for high end products! I finally realized, or grew enough, it’s so much better for me personally NoW, where I am now, to save up for the better quality products. I don’t think I wasted that money, though. It has been a long learning process. Thank you so much for continuing to research and review these budget brands! There are so many of us out here!
One bit of advice I remember giving my design students last spring regarding substituting cheaper supplies was "what you save in money, you will spend in time." In my experience, cheaper supplies often take more time to use for a variety of reasons (frustrations, low pigment load, poor handling control, breakage, etc.). However, a budget is a budget and college students often have little budgeted for their supplies. I gave my students a breakdown of in town and online resources, where to find coupons, info on sales rotations, items they could scrounge (free cardboard, etc.), items they could split cost with a classmate, and what could wait a pay day or two. The purpose and needed longevity of different supplies makes such a difference. Practice items that will likely be tossed in a month or two don't need to be archival or lightfast, but something like bristles falling out of a brush or the wrong kind of brush is just too much frustration and an unnecessary pain to deal with when there are decent student grade brushes available at a budget price.
2 great artists in one place. Great show! I love to watch your sketching videos, Marty. People are showing up for you, not your videography skills. Keep creating and we'll keep watching. 🙂
Thank you Marty for saying that Lindsay has made a difference in people's lives. She has undoubtedly made a huge difference in mine. I sit in this quiet, empty house day after day. Now physically challenged, I can't drive and visit my wildlife sanctuaries and do my photography. That's been taken away. I can't get out and do anything so finding watercolor was great. Not knowing what I was doing, I had to find people like Lindsay to guide me. I hope she doesn't think it's too creepy to say how much company she brings to the quiet here. Sometimes, when I'm not even doing art, maybe cooking, I turn on her video to have the company. Glad to have been introduced to you Marty, and I have subscribed. I like your outdoor style.
Thank you so much for the comments here Janet. It means everything that you can still find some joy in the company you get from Lindsay's videos. She's an upbeat and really first rate human. Thanks for the sub and for supporting Lindsay.
I have to echo Marty's closing sentiments Lindsay. You have made a huge difference in my creative life and I always share information about you for people that are interested in any creative endeavor. I think ArtTubers are some of the unsung hero's of the UA-cam universe. You deal with the ups and downs of back-end statistics, fickle algorithms, the occasional struggle not to give in to burn out & stay true to who you are. Underneath it all, as you said, is the communities you've fostered and created and I know I am better for having come across your channel one day. So thank you.
Here, here… 🥂🍻🥂… pure THANK YOU and cheers to our ARTIST QUEEN! What a great conversation with Marty! You can tell you’ve been friends for many years. I know FOR ME that I APPRECIATE and undoubtedly TRUST Lindsey’s reviews and advice. I’ve crawled into her email several times and she’s always responded and helped. Here’s to 1M subscribers! 🙋♀️Question🙋♀️ Are the podcast guests going to be “surprises”? I was wondering if maybe you were going to post in advance who you would be hosting and maybe we could submit questions for them? Just a thought 🤷🏼♀️ ❤❤
You are both perfect examples of how one person can make a positive difference to the life of so many. Thanks ever so much for sharing your talents with the world.
Thank you for this. It’s lovely to see two authentic individuals sharing their thoughts. I’m still in the process of watching this, but Marty brings up the woman who falls asleep to his videos. I have 2 channels & I’m quite active on Facebook where I admin a few groups. You two are right that viewers/followers do get to know us. They begin to relate to us & it is always so important to keep that at the forefront of our minds every time we present anything online. I’ve been told many times that people find my voice to be soothing & comforting & I am SURE that’s what that woman meant when she told Marty she falls asleep to his videos. It’s important to be authentic & to avoid the hype. You two are REAL. Authenticity is sadly dying due to all the sponsorships. I find your reviews very valuable, Lindsay. You’ve saved me money! Marty, I haven’t heard of you, but am visiting your channel as soon as I’m done watching this video 😊
I learned this weekend that humans need to be in relationships and we live longer / healthier lives when we are in healthy relationships with people who share our interests.
Loved your interview with Marty! Thanks so much for highlighting him and his work. It was so fun to watch this afternoon! Both you and Marty are amazing.
Wonderful! Thanks again for another great podcast. Really also enjoyed the conversation around community- the pandemic, prices, etc. So big thanks from Massachusetts up to Maine!
What a delight! I discovered Marty first, when I was gingerly returning to art, my childhood passion, after a tough period of adult life. Marty, your kindness and talent as an artist and teacher inspired me so much - I kept on drawing and painting and learning from UA-cam artists and discovered the wonderful Lindsay, whose Sat Chats and other videos ai never miss! We Canucks love Minnesotans and Mainers btw. Thank you both for everything you do and for the integrity with which you do it ♥️🇨🇦 PS, for a wonderful up and coming UA-camr check out Becky Tregear from Australia
So kind of you to say these things Patricia. I love Canada as well and lived there for two wonderful years in Montreal. What a great country and people. I’ll never forget hockey in the winter and boot hockey in the summer. Those were some of the best years of my childhood. Minnesota is like another Canadian province tbh. We all apologize for everything as well eh. ❤😊
Thank you Lindsay and Marty! ❤ On the frugal papers - the Fabriano Fat Pad taught me to paint fearlessly. Over time I lost my patience a little, wanting the higher cotton content. Fabriano Artistico was at the ready! I always had both, but as I let go of the "precious" mentality, my preference leaned towards the higher cotton content. The Fad Pad and the Artistico are both go-tos, for different reasons. Totally worth having both on hand!
Marty, I just saw that you have a channel with your wife, sharing your adventures! I just subscribed, because the first video I ever saw of yours had your wife in it and I loved the relationship you two shared, and it made me subscribe to you back then.
RE: going to sleep during the video. Guilty here. At the end of the day, I will go to bed with a youTube on. (But LIndsay, rarely can I fall asleep watching you, you are so energetic). The evening videos I watch are as you said, comforting. Mostly it is a painting tutorial or a spiritual teacher and I will watch them several times to get through to the end. I had my spiritual teacher tell me once, “That is what every man wants to hear -his talking puts you to sleep”. I definetily think it is a compliment of comfort and peace and trust. (But I also trust YOU Lindsay)
I loved joining Marty and friends and the St. Paul Underground Artists League online. I felt I wasn’t up to par and too shy about being there. I just really enjoyed the conversations so much! I wish I had been there more! I want to buy the book Marty!
What an awsome Art Chat this was, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to you two talk and will most likely listen to this again as I had a few interruptions so I missed parts of it. Thank you so much much and you should do this again and maybe make it a foursome with a few more of our friends.
Thank you so much to both of you. I really enjoyed this discussion. It's just therapeutic to listen to you two revisit your UA-cam histories and talk about art supplies. I hope you make this at least a quarterly or semi-annual event.
That was wonderful! You're both terrific, down to earth, reliable, and knowledgeable people. Thanks so much, Lindsay, for doing these podcasts. Looking forward to the future ones and Marty's, too.
Marty may not be a good shopper, but his beautifully sincere comments on Lindsay were spot on! Well done, Marty, it's always nice to hear you are appreciated..
One of the things I really love about you Lindsay, is that you do share little bits of what’s going on in your life. It really makes me feel like we are friends and we always get along! It is comforting to spend time with you.
This was great! I love Marty Owings and the interactions between you two is so engaging. It certainly has been true for me that UA-cam has been so beneficial in introducing to so many artists. I like the video format. It's like sitting in your living room. I don't listen to many podcasts as my walks are generally focused on looking for poems to write. Great advice to join local groups and get that experience of preparing for and participating in shows. I lost a lot of that during COVID and I need to get back. Thanks for doing this. I look forward to more live chats.
You've made a huge difference in my life! You've been a bright light in my life during the darkest times. You've been always so genuine, and fun, and honest, and helpful, a great teacher and friend to anyone! Thank you!
OMG you both made me tear up lol. Marty is so right about all you do for this community, you are a wonderful teacher and inspiration to so so many. Loved this interview, Marty seems like a wonderful sweet man, I will be subscribing to his channel. Thanks so much Lindsay
Thank you both so much for your insight and knowledge. It was a joy to watch and learn about your history. I'm now a subscriber of Marty's channel. Thank you again.
What a great time spent with two of my favorite tubers the only thing that would have added to it would be if Steve was there with you. Marty the memory of your Stonehenge paper review still brings a smile to my face. Thanks Lindsay for bringing the blog casts, loving them.
What a treat! I’m smiling the entire time! You both are interesting people with insight and authenticity, and with your ample sense of humor it’s like a visit with two old friends. Please say you’ll repeat the Lindsay and Marty show! Haha.
Awesome video podcast. We moved states after I lived in Texas for 42 years, during the height of the pandemic 3 years ago. I started watching artists videos on UA-cam- I feel like you all are my new friends! I even met a local artist by watching UA-cam. Thanks for all you do! Kathy Busby
To Lindsay & Marty i just wanna say thank you, Ive been following you both since forever and I appreciate the two different approaches of teaching us about the materials and techniques. Greetings from Mexico.
I am not a you tuber, making videos for other folks to see, but I understand your comment about meeting up with people, just to talk and connect with folks , For 37 years I was a person who was committed to helping disabled people get on with doing things in life that they could not do because of the liability they may have, I missed being with my friends. and when my disabled friend passed and I moved to Ohio Mom included me with her friends and we would go to a restaurant for lunch the first Thursday of the month, and I have a group of friends that I just love and feel depressed if we have to skip a luncheon if somebody was sick (covid was a pain!)
That was amazing! I remember the "mash-up" you all did many years ago! I hope Lisa and Steve are on the list too! Love these interviews; also totally ready for a repeat with Sarah Burns!
Yep, it’s gotten to the point where if something is popular on social media/youtube and greatly reviewed there then I assume it must be average or bad until proven otherwise. I’m almost always more happy with items I found through organic searching methods even if blind buying, with the exception of a few more ethical reviewers like you two
You will see a lot of the same products make the rounds because the companies making them send out tons if PR to youtubers, some is good and some is not.
Just realised youtube stopped recommending Martys channel to me. Ive been subbed a very long time. I forget to hit the subsciption tab and end up going down rabbut holes 😂
It was an absolute treat and a blast to reconnect with you Lindsay. So awesome to share our passions about art supplies and how things have evolved over the years. Awww thank you Wendy. ❤😊
@@owingsart You brought a tear to my eye there at the end. I always appreciate how positive and supportive you are of your fellow UA-camrs.

I used some 25 % cotton thinking it would be okay and wouldn’t you know, when I laid down a second layer of paint the first layer lifted up. One bit of advice I remember giving my design students last spring regarding substituting cheaper supplies was "what you save in money, you will spend in time."
In my experience, cheaper supplies often take more time to use for a variety of reasons (frustrations, low pigment load, poor handling control, breakage, etc.).
So true, I will never buy cheap house paint for that reason. I want good coverage in 1 or 2 coats!
The new creators coming up should look to both of you as examples of how it should be done. Honesty and integrity!
Aww, you are so kind:)

What an absolute treat this was! I got a little teary eyed there at the end. Marty is a class act. Thank you both, I thoroughly enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it!
What an awsome Art Chat this was, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to you two talk and will most likely listen to this again as I had a few interruptions so I missed parts of it. Thank you so much much and you should do this again and maybe make it a foursome with a few more of our friends.
Glad you enjoyed it! I have many plans for this series!
Thank you so much to both of you. I really enjoyed this discussion. It's just therapeutic to listen to you two revisit your UA-cam histories and talk about art supplies. I hope you make this at least a quarterly or semi-annual event.
Glad you enjoyed it!
We are always better when we create instead of destroying - - words to live by from Marty
Wonderful podcast. Thank you both so much!!
I loved that line!
This is lovely, just two arty friends in a safe place. Thank you both for your integrity ☺️

Thanks so much. 🙂
Thank you!
One of the things I really love about you Lindsay, is that you do share little bits of what’s going on in your life. It really makes me feel like we are friends and we always get along! It is comforting to spend time with you.
Love Marty’s art reviews, so fun to see him on your channel. You both are my go to for supply reviews.
Yay, thank you!
Thank you for sharing this podcast!! It was fun and informative (and I cried with both of you) Thank you for being you!😊

Great art chat!! Thanks, Lindsay. I need to check out Marty's channel now!
Please do!
This is fantastic! Love this type of podcast! Always love Lindsay and glad you are back doing videos Marty!
More to come!
You are very welcome!
I loved this podcast! It was such a joy to listen to you two! Thank you for spending the time with us! 😉🤗
Our pleasure!
Thank you Lindsay and Marty for this exellent podcast ..Just beautifull.

What a great time spent with two of my favorite tubers the only thing that would have added to it would be if Steve was there with you. Marty the memory of your Stonehenge paper review still brings a smile to my face. Thanks Lindsay for bringing the blog casts, loving them.
❤Thank you for the kindness and remembering that video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
NPR is a compliment - it means quality at a reasonable pace - DEPENDABLE! Embracing it as a compliment was correct!
I agree!
This was a pleasure to watch. Marty is correct. You are such an important part of my creative journey!

Awww thanks for supporting Lindsay!! ❤😊
Awesome video podcast. We moved states after I lived in Texas for 42 years, during the height of the pandemic 3 years ago. I started watching artists videos on UA-cam- I feel like you all are my new friends! I even met a local artist by watching UA-cam. Thanks for all you do! Kathy Busby
That is awesome!
OMG I teared up at the end. We all agree with Marty!!! I loved this whole video! You guys are great. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!

To Lindsay & Marty i just wanna say thank you, Ive been following you both since forever and I appreciate the two different approaches of teaching us about the materials and techniques. Greetings from Mexico.

❤😊
I am not a you tuber, making videos for other folks to see, but I understand your comment about meeting up with people, just to talk and connect with folks , For 37 years I was a person who was committed to helping disabled people get on with doing things in life that they could not do because of the liability they may have, I missed being with my friends. and when my disabled friend passed and I moved to Ohio Mom included me with her friends and we would go to a restaurant for lunch the first Thursday of the month, and I have a group of friends that I just love and feel depressed if we have to skip a luncheon if somebody was sick (covid was a pain!)
Community is so important!
Thank you for the interesting interview and great to know Marty.

this was such a wonderful chat !! thank you both!! I love Marty's perspectives and his transparency .. Norakag, here 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awww, you are a true friend Nora. ❤😊
Try hitting the notification bell, that might make him show up in your recommendations more.
What an incredible interview. You both are an inspiration. Love this new podcast format. I'm looking forward to more.
More to come!
So kind of you. Please help spread the word about Lindsay’s podcast.
Thank you for a wonderful podcast interview. What a delightful Sunday afternoon listen!
Thanks for listening
