- Sonic Superstars stumbles a fair bit--but when it gets up to speed, it really shines.
Sonic as a franchise is notoriously inconsistent, offering up some amazing highs, some truly dire lows, and a fair few games that are forgettably mediocre. But then there's that one weird category several Sonics fall into: games that are obviously, undeniably flawed in some way, but still have that something that makes a Sonic game feel special. Maybe not everyone can feel what makes them great, but for others, those qualities will overshine all of the negatives. Sonic Superstars is one such game, one with glaring flaws that I happen to like a lot.

I’m a 90s baby but my 1st 2 systems ever were a SNES & a Genesis as hand me downs when I was 5 in 2000, so I ultimately hadda get both this and Super Mario Wonder as well.

Far from truth! it is not even close to sonic 2 or sonic 3/sonic and knuckles! I am massively disappointed
3:21 The only reason Sonic feels "outclassed" by everyone else in this game is because the developers foolishly chose not to give Sonic the insta shield or any of the elemental shields from Sonic 3!
So colorfull with classic gameplay. Back to the nature, this sonic game + mario wonders = Magnificent collection!! 😍💖

I give it 8 out of 10 just beat it this afternoon I'm loving it on my ps5 60fp beautiful colors. I'm 34 years old i grew up playing these types of games

Played the early ones in the 90s and loved the og platforming with all it's flaws. Been waiting for a a game like Sonic Generations on the Switch for ages now and with Frontiers also out there this one is a must for me.
I love that Sonic’s OG form is a rabbit referencing his concept design!! Also love that Amy is becoming a core player in the franchise again. Ever since CD & her reintroduction in Adventure she’s been my favorite character and she’s been pretty flanderized for years. I feel like now with games like Frontiers she’s slowly coming closer to her Adventure role where she had a life outside of Sonic & despite her crush on him they would still be able to joke about it & hang out without it seeming weird and stalker-ish (like in Adventure 2 when she breaks him out of jail). And it seemed like she was more like a friend to Sonic instead of an annoyance/inconvenience. Super excited to see Sega prioritizing her again and to see what they’re gonna do with her!
I love the game.. For ages I was upset that Sega lost the console wars. I rooted you with all my being as a child. This game simply states “I am still here! Alive and well and I’m on ALL consoles!” .. And me as I fan… I can only say.. what a smart and strategic move. I understand now and I’m proud of you Sega.

I haven't liked playing Sonic since the Sega Genesis, and this looks absolutely amazing. I would love to play this game.
Sonic Mania from 2017 was a good platforming Sonic. I played with my son on his Nintendo Switch.
Please don't. It's terrible. Mania is a real sonic game, this is a pretender.

Sonic 1 was my first game, Sonic 3 and Knuckles gave me a lot of memories, I may pick this one up =D

Can reviews not knock it because he’s not going fast? A great platformer can’t go break neck speeds. Sega knows they put themselves in a box with that one and ppl won’t let them leave.

Mania is overrated. It didn’t offer anything new. I guess that was the point though. Bring back a super old game…
@@Fade2Dark It did update the mechanics from the classic games and added a looot of stuff. But yeah, I agree that it lacked originality.
However gameplay-wise I still prefer it over superstars, but that's just my opinion.

@leadme2thebliss21 the challenges are fun but the core gameplay for 95% of the stages don't gold up..classics physics are awful and modern is hold forward to win

Maybe skilled people can get through that. Bit for those who aren't used to boosting, they can let go of the button before they overshoot and lose a life.

My only real complaint is the hang tough special stage. Shoulda redone Sonic 2 special stage. 8/10

This does not live up to the older sonic at all. Not worth the price, the emerald powers are useless for majority of the game. Needs to be half the price it currently is

Just platinumed this last night. I would say this was about as fun as the advance trilogy, although the story isn’t as cool and the level design/music is very hit and miss.
Lots of good moments for sure, but I personally put the classics above this, including Mania.
Looks average at best, has a fan game vibe. Some of the level gimmicks are terrible and look to be implemented as filler.

Nah. Generations, SA2, the Advance trilogy, Rush, Rush Adventure, all amazing Sonic games.
Generations, 3D blast, adventure and Adventure 2 were great

@@teryliuhoo5989 nostalgia speaking for me personally, I played the genesis version as a kid along with Sonic 2 so i have good memories of it especially the music. I guess great isn’t the best way to describe it but I think it’s a good game for what it was.

I've watched a UA-camr play the full game. I stopped watching the gameplay because I felt very disappointed. Level design is so beautiful. But every time Sonic collects rings he always gets hit and loses them all.
