I have the Z5500 using as my living room home theater for 14 years still going strong no issues. I have the Z5300 in my man cave of the same age but the satellites are now blown/distorting mid range. I just ordered the Z906 to replace my Z5300, hope I'm not disappointed.
@@ausbcorner3629 Yes it is very worth it...only as a home theater PC system only though. The satellite performance is equal to the z5500 and the subwoofer is tighter faster and less boomy than the z5000. But I would not use either system unless connected to an internal or external 5.1 Soundblaster card. Being the Logitech systems are limited to 6 ch direct and optical only they are not sutable for a TV home theater anymore. But for less than $400 for the Z906 used for a gaming console or home theater PC in a small to medium size room the price is unbeatable for real 5.1 I just finally blew the sats on my z5500 and retired it.
@@jakethorne263 The problem is how much use and age has the Z5500 seen?...mine was in excellent condition when I retired it but the driver materials on the satellites started degrading leading to distortion and buzzing. As long as you're not trying to set this up something the size of a living room I would stick with a brand new 906 if I was you. The materials used in even the 5500 are not anywhere near premium quality and simply don't hold up with decades of age even if stored properly. Besides a "mint" condition Z5500 will cost as much as a real audio system (receiver, subwoofer, satellites) that would give you much more flexibility connecting to a smart TV via HDMI ARC and so on. But if you're going to be using this audio system for a computer and a bedroom or a modest size gaming room Z906 all the way.
I'm surprised that noone took notice of that 18Hz note that your systems can't even play. I have Z5500 and had to wave goodbye to the control pod in order to make a good use out of 4 hi fi full range speakers that I got. In the meantime I got a second Z5500 sub, I fully rebuild the preamplifiers inside the subwoofers and I also made a custom wired splitter to adjust the two systems with one custom head I also made myself. That 18Hz note in the song that original Logitechs don't even play? Now it gets ripped; subs bottom out at 30% volume. That amplifier there, it has hidden potential.
@@danny.3zz456 Well, it's a clean design if you consider the control pod as a solid block. I have some basic electronic knowledge, all the rest can be found online. TDA7294 datasheet, 15-pin D-Sub pinout, and most of the schematics. But it all comes down to what you want to do, and if it is cost effective. For example despite me "unlocking" the sub 40Hz territory, the box design doesn't allow much of those frequencies out. Anyway, if you want so you can leave some contact info in a comment and as soon as I get it you can delete it
@@tibby1239 You don't actually need it, I don't have one. I used 3 dual op-amps in a non inverting configuration and instead of the 2 resistors I used a trimmer to adjust the gain. I added 2 1st order low pass filters after the op-amp for the sub - 2 470uf caps and again 2 trimmers instead of resistors to make it adjustable. The sub input to the op-amp is consisting of a 6x10k resistors to cover all 6 channels.
