This time I want to share an idea on how to make a homemade presser foot to sew French seams with piping in the sewing junction.
I made this foot out of a standard presser foot. It was necessary to fatten/refill one of the sides with some welding. The rough side was then shaped by cutting off the excess. A rounded shape cavity was done on the bottom. This recess houses and keeps in place the piping cord. It was made to a standard measure of plastic piping cord (2.6 mm thick plus material (vinyl/leather over) As I am using a single needle machine the sewing is done one side first then the other one. At the end the outcome is twin stitches at a distance of 1/2" half of an inch between the lines of stitches, leaving the red piping in the center.
By having this first rough prototype a lathe operator will do a flawless new presser foot for me. He will use a milling machine to make it.
In fact, this homemade presser foot will help me a lot for a next video that will show French seams with piping trim in the center junction.
I hope you find in this video some motivation and inspiration to achieve a similar project!

By far, this channel is the most informative for beginner upholsterers. And this video to create a special foot! Marvelous! Thank you and keep up the good work!
Super
Needing something and not having is why we invent what's in our mind
Very clever! Thanks for sharing!
Creative concepts ❤👍
Brilliant, you amaze me sir.
Excelente muy buena idea 👍
Buenos días.
Excelente idea.
Good job
Similar job with a double needle custom made presser foot.

Nice .
Awesome wish I have one 💜
A lathe operator can do a new one for you. It is not complicated for these technicians. A milling machine would be used for it.
Excelente
Wow !!!!!
commenting for algorithm. respect master.
So brilliant! Nice custom pipe guide Cesar. It's always so good to see your hands do what they do. I hope you guys are doing awesome. ☆☆☆☆☆ stars on this. Really inspiring. ❤
Dear Lynn, You are always so kind with your remarks!
We hope you are doing well!!! Nice to hear from you again!
Perhaps you are referring to the piping foot: ua-cam.com/video/XjAcX1BGhi8/v-deo.htmlsi=CbYB3VfLUfsbHxKH&t=147
It turned out nice 👌
Ya gotta be a Jack of all trades when you need to get things done.

Very nice. A question… why would mine come out with a twisting shape over about 6’. I’m using a pre made piping(plastic) and a medium wt. vinyl. The piping and both side were perfectly flat before I did the French seam stitching. Then it started to “cork-screw” and I couldn’t stop it. The stitching came out really nice but then cover now has about a 45 degree twist.
Anyway as always your stuff comes out great. Thank You.
Great 👌 job 👌
Please the Link to this PFAFF sewing machine ?
All these foams (high resilience) are 1/4" of an inch thick.

great work. need to point out that isn't a french seam. the auto industry has been misusing the term for a very long time.
Interesting comment. I like to read the Hog Ring Forum posts to update my upholstery knowledge. I stumbled across this article:
www.thehogring.com/2012/06/06/photo-french-seam-piping/
It inspired me to get on the web this special foot for my single and double needle machines. I had no success and it took me to create one of my own by hand. By having this sample I can go to a lathe/milling operator to make a better one:

@@Cechaflo thanks for the link. i see they also get it wrong - not the piping part, but the french seam. somewhere, someone in the car industry started calling a plain open seam with double top stitching a 'french' seam. it appears to have become the accepted term within car upholstery, something that may be difficult to change. or, i just have to get used to it :)
@@daos3300 Interesting opinion to take it into account.
A very nice job, thanks for taking the trouble of making this video.
A lathe operator is doing a new one in steel for me following this rough pattern.
I could not find a foot like this on internet.
@@Cechaflo
Gracias.

If you want to get it totally smooth, you first need to sand it before you try to polish it.
Thanks for the suggestion. According to this rough prototype a lathe operator is going to make a new flawless one for me in stainless steel.
👍👍👍👍
How does that piping perform vs using vinyl or cloth backing?
It works out well. In a next video I will show the process with foamed panels and the attaching of backing fabric strip on the reverse to reinforce the French seams.
Great video! What type of thread are you using and what Tex is it?
138 polyester thread size for the top stitching. 92 thread size for the closing/junction sewing.
@@Cechaflo thank you for the speedy reply!
🥰👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Those are orthodontic/dentist pliers. www.ebay.com/itm/253733242356
Danke.
🇹🇷🙋♂️👏👏👍❤️
Are you manufacturing for resell?
I like to create rough pieces by hand that would be then taken as a sample to a milling/lathe operator in order to make a brand new one in steel.
To much free time
Thanks for the information. Please, share with us the links to purchase these feet.

🤔🤔🤔🤔😀😀😀😀👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👏👏👏👏
Why wouldn’t just a piping foot work?
A regular piping foot does not work for the twin stitches and piping trim in the center. The piping foot makes stitches close to the piping cord.
ua-cam.com/video/XjAcX1BGhi8/v-deo.html
@@Cechaflo Sorry. I meant a zipper foot. I have feet that I can just ride the right side of the welt and it does the same. Dont get me wrong, I love your work and your videos. It just seems a little weird to make something that other feet will do the same with.
@@divrguy757 No worries. You are right! A zipper foot is a good option too. Not an easy task on curvy edges though.
ua-cam.com/video/ULUx3UFe8pA/v-deo.html
The hollow foot while runs over and pressing the piping cord in the center has the advantage to keep a steady line of stitches on both straight and rounded edges.
Witam zawsze fajne pomysły i realizację. Mam pytanie czy mogę? Pozdrawiam
I'd be glad to answer upholstery questions or related to the video if it is possible.
Find someone who does nickel plating or similar. You’ll find that rusts quickly.
Thanks for the suggestion! Chrome plating is better than nickel. I am going to test this foot for awhile then I will order a new one in stainless steel. A lathe operator can do it. A milling machine is useful.
@@Cechaflo if you decide to get a pathe operator to make one, I'd happily purchase 1 and I'm sure many other trimmers would also buy one.
