- Hi and Welcome back to The Stained Canvas! In todays video I show you how to save money and make your own textured rollers for making collage papers and mixed media painting. All it takes is a few supplies from the dollar store and you've saved yourself loads of money. I hope this helps you to keep creating regardless of how expensive everything is getting!

If you cut a toilet roll across its width, then you can lie it flat & use that as the perfect sized & easy template to save some wrangling 😊
Put duct tape on the first edge to hold down the piece on the roller so it’s easier to glue and join the edges. Once it’s trimmed and lined up put elastics around the roll to hold the material in place until it’s dry.
Great idea !!!
Love the leaf pattern!
That’s so cool! Agreed….anywhere you can find ways to make crafting and art a little more easy on the wallet…go for it! Thanks for the creative idea!
Glad you like it!
@@TheStainedCanvasArt how do we subscribe to your videos? As not listed in this video
@@TheStainedCanvasArt. If you go to your local wallpaper supplier they often have books of sample patterns which end of range are given away, so any embossed wallpaper could get used therefore saving you money. Thanks for this video 👍 I want to subscribe please.
@@albertgriffin7901 what a great idea! If you click on my channel page you should be able to find the subscribe button.
Thanks for the cheap, fabulous idea! ❤
I could see putting hot glue on tube for texture.
I think you're right! That would work perfectly with this.😊
Maybe if you lined up the join at the edge of the paper it wouldn’t show in the middle of the design.
This is a fabulous idea 🎉❤🎉 thank you!!! 🤗
This is GREAT. I am doing a journal exchange with 2 partners and I am always looking for new stuff to do. Thank You ... Annie Lou
Love this idea. Brilliant!
PVC pipe sections would work too and they are washable.
Wow. Amazing results from a simple tool.
Fabulous! Thanks so much.
What good ideas
Glad you like them!
l new subscriber. Thank you for these suggestions. I truly appreciate saving money while trying to continue to craft
Glad they can help you stay crafting!
Thank you for sharing, wonderful!
You're welcome!😊
Well done you!!! Who would have thought??? I have paid for stencils and did think of making the flat ones by cutting out bits, but that was so time consuming and no guarantee that it would work. This is brilliant !!! THANK YOU 😜
Glad you like it!
Brilliant! Thank you!!!
So cool! ❤
Among the things my mom left behind when she passed away was a big bag of hair curlers. I still remember her putting my hair up in those things. It occurs to me that those little guys would make great texture rollers, as some are spongy and some are spiky.
My condolences to you and your family on your mom's passing. 😔 I think her hair curlers might work great! Let me know how it turns out.
Great tips. Thanks! I’m wondering if 2-sided tape or stapling would work to affix.
The best use of a toilet paper roll I’ve seen! For most of the video I was wondering what you were going to roll it with, I was thinking of brayers…. Big “aha” moment when you used the paint rolling tool! I’m really happy you just popped up, thanks for a really fun video! I have subscribed. Erica❤
Really good ideas!
Thank you!
I love this!
And I already have everything at home, including the placemat, yay!
So going to make a few rolls, thank you. 🖤
I think these would also work beautifully for making your own wrapping paper, or when used with fabric paint to make cool printed fabric!
And trying these with my gell plate too.
I love making my own stuff too, simply because I get bored with using the same thing over and over, and I always feel bad when I bought something expensive, only for it to get used a few times.
I'd rather buy more paint. 😉
Also love the idea of using stuff I find around the house, or from the recycling bin.
Thanks for this great idea.
I love using these with my Gel Plate they work great.
That was very interesting to watch , very good idea 😊
Great ideas!
This is so fun I can't wait to try different textures and look for different things to use!
Great idea 💡
It’s the first time I’m here because of the UA-cam suggestion and I submitted to your channel just immediately before even the video was finished! And since I don’t subscribe to a channel before I can watch some videos on it that I can see if it’s my cup of tea or not, I have to say that it wasn’t really my way. You know it’s not just about having enough money for buying the stuff that you need, it’s about being creative and I believe being an artist is more than just making something fascinating with the new products and buying every single new supplies that comes out and getting all of available items in the market. I think it’s more about how you get from the stuff you already have. That means having an artistic skill to me. I don’t mean that you shouldn’t get the necessary products, I just want to say that if I myself have enough money to buy something that isn’t necessary and more importantly if I can make it myself by being more creative, it feels more artistic than just buying everything that I can afford. I really like this video and your idea. Thanks for sharing. I’ve subscribed to your channel and I also will share it on my Pinterest page and with my friends too.
What exactly is that first thing you're using? The roll of something you're cutting out? Not sure what that's called and I'm looking it up to buy some. Thanks!!
It's a textured shelf liner. It feels a bit rubbery. Hope this helps.
I might try putting the texture around an old lint roller
@@troutfisher7182 I think that would work great!
This is brilliant! Thank you. The ingenious appropriation of things that were think can only be used one way.
Oh, I will definitely be doing this!
Thanks for the tips
You could also use a lint roller to add a pattern to.
I hear u no extras either I just make do it works out.
I love this. I’ll be saving some t.p rolls🙌🏻❤️
I just stumbled upon this and what a treasure!
May I ask what glue you're using here? Thank you so much for the fabulous ideas! I love patterns and texture🥰
It's a fabric glue called Fabri-Tac. I got mine from Walmart. 🙂
❤
Thank you for your ideas 💡. I love it! Very good idea. Especially if you have a budget.
Very cool. Thank you.
Super
Would be nice if you had shown us the glue or linked it in the show notes. Just say'n.
Will you please share name of glue?
It's called Fabri tac, any fabric glue would work.
I've never seen anything like these here in the UK, but I do have a ton of peel-offs I've never used. Worth a try?? 😏
Absolutely!
Great!😊
What great ideas! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create those textures from very simple items you can buy cheaply. The results are amazing too. I’ve subscribed and given you a thumbs up too
Thank you! 😊
What a great idea! You know you could even use a hot glue gun to make your patterns on the toilet paper roll. I’m gonna try that first. I’m always looking for ways to use up toilet paper rolls, and I can never think of anything, but this is great!
I think hot glue would work great!
That is awesome! Never thought of that lol
Brilliant. I just made a few with stuff on hand. I fussy cut the final fitting and then clamped the seam between two popsickle sticks while it dried for an almost seamless transition. Great idea!!!
Finally, a way to use my hoard of toilet paper rolls.
Excellent! I'm thinking they'd be perfect for adding texture to gel plates as well.
They're great on a gel plate!
Great video. I wished I would have found you sooner. TFS 😊
Thank you!
Too Cool😎!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Subscribed!!!
Thank you!
What a wonderful idea
Last one is cool!
Great idea!!✨👌🏼
Such a good idea!
Only issue I have is the background is too busy and distracts from what you're doing.
You're right, It's an old piece of thick paper I cover my desk with when I paint. I'll see about getting a cleaner one. Thanks!😊
@TheStainedCanvasArt I should have explained, sorry, my vision sometimes plays up, especially when tired, didn't want my comment to come across as a complaint 🤦♀️😄
@@florencetlp not to worry! I didn't take it in a bad way. 😊
Make the foreground very simple to balance out the artwork 🙂
Thx. for great idea 👍👍👍🌹🤗
You’re welcome 😊
Very helpful. ❤🇦🇺
Glad it was helpful!
