My main gripe is no rear collision warning system when you are backing up. That should be standard by now. I got 2 and both of them don't offer this. You would think with all those cameras it would tell me there was a car coming when backing up. Big fail there.
Agreed. I actually sold my Skoda Superb 2019, which had this backing up collision warning (and would also apply breaks if necessary) and getting a new MY which doesn't do that 😅
Great video Ryan. I’m a proud owner of a 22 MY W/W. I’ve got 58k miles with no issues. Absolutely the best car I’ve ever owned. And I use FSD daily to supplement my driving experience
Just picked up '24 MYLR W/W after a month of waiting. Driving experience is great. FSD is just incredible. The sound system is fine. One-pedal driving or Regen brake was definitely something I had to get used to. Regen brake is pretty aggressive. Rear view through rear window is a little hard. The car is quiet, and is heavy. The steering wheel is hard. It feels like BMW. Acceleration is great. Build-Quality is still lagging. Door misalignment is just terrible. A/C is fine.
Agree with all of this for my 2024 MY. I would add that I had an annoying whistling noise coming from the driver side rear view mirror that took some sleuthing work on my part to figure out.
@@Iamwrongbut put some blue painters tape on the triangle plastic seam where it meets the window. I knew something was wrong there because I was able to push it in. I was not able to do this on the passenger’s side mirror. I took it to Tesla service and they put some silicon and the noise was gone. I’m assuming that your issue might be similar to mine. Put the tape and then take it for a ride.
I am eagerly anticipating picking up my 2024 Model Y Long Range today! The dealership has kindly included 20-inch wheels and offered a $2,000 discount as it is a demonstration model with only 52 miles driven. While I had initially hoped for the refreshed version, the absence of stalks proved to be a significant deterrent for me.
When I bought my 2023 Model Y Long Range, I intentionally ordered one with the 19" wheels for the ride quality. I test drove a Performance and the Long Range with both the 19" and 20" wheels. The Performance model was a hard "No" due to the punishing ride quality. The 20" wheels also degraded the ride significantly over the 19"-ers. That said, I constantly second guess myself over not getting the the 20" Induction wheels just because the wheels look so much better than the Gemini wheels and the hub caps.
Hi Ryan, Another useful intro to the Model Y. I bought a 2021 in Dec 20 and my experience mirrors your"s. I later test drove a late 2022 with the comfort suspension and was impressed enough to buy a 2023. It is an improvement over the original, but it is still too bumpy (and road-noisy). In general I have has very few software issues; in this respect is it more like a tech product than a vehicle. My car is white with a white interior and I live in Palm Springs, so I did add a sunroof cover that makes a huge difference, both for heat reduction and sound insulation (the cargo cover helps there as well.) My number one daily complaint is the useless door stops. The doors are heavy and don't want to stay open as you leave the car. It's a constant battle.

Congratulations! I’m not a fan of the rearview. Hardly anybody comments on that. I decided to go with the 2023 model 3 instead because of that as well as the price savings I’m very happy as well.
I just bought a month ago a MYLR DM, it’s simply the best vehicle I have ever had. It’s a completely different experience. It finally feels like the future. Thanks for the spot on review.
Ryan you do a nice job. Just got a Y. My 3rd Tesla. I also will add. The FSD is far better than I ever thought. I took it on the ultimate test and it was flawless. PHL to Long Island. Not a tougher driving test in the USA. I now know what Elon means when he says FSD is 100 times smarter and safer than any human could ever be. Try it ASAP. I was blown away. The 7 seater can be folded down and have a flat trunk space so it has the same utility as the 5 seater, but you have the extra seats for smaller people or children whenever needed.
I was going to wait to get the MY until 2025 but Tesla is currently offering 1.99% APR for qualifying customers for the MY so I got one. I love it! Some of the negatives you mention are kind of subjective to each user, for instance the frunk not being powered is totally fine with me and I doubt I’ll be using it as much as I do the trunk anyways. Getting 2024 Y this Friday. I did receive a notification to except changes of the ultra sonic sensors are being removed and the bigger cameras that the refreshed model 3 has will be replacing the sensors. I found this interesting. The model Y I test drove still had all the circles in the front and back bumpers.
I have an early 2020 MYP, about ready to upgrade but still awaiting some of the updates the 3 got. Mainly the ventilated seats!, but slightly improved range on the Y Performance would be nice. The longer it takes the more likely I'll opt for something else (I do have a reservation for an Rivian R2).
We are all EV now but I remember taking my wife's old car to fill it up with gas for her and I burned some of the gas just getting to the station and back. With the Tesla cars we just plug them in. Also, leaving the AC on in Texas when you are out shopping or dining is fantastic. No more hoping the remote start works and remembering to do it and burning extra gas cooling down the car.
My 2024 Model Y Long Range had none of the fit and finish, quality issues I've read elsewhere, it's been a great car! Once I got used to driving an EV, I really enjoy the car; the best car I've ever owned (in over 50 years of buying them).
Got a 2024 RWD recently and it’s pretty good overall. Biggest complaints are that FSD is a joke and the AC struggles with the heat load in Phoenix. Burn through a good 10-15% a day for preconditioning. Had a Kia EV6 that didn’t require nearly as much energy to cool. Will soon see how much tint on the front windows help.
The biggest pros are chargers that actually exist, CCS vs NACS is night and day, and the software features outside of FSD actually work compared to the eGMP cars.
And yet, the majority of discussion we see about FSD is that it’s brilliant. I don’t get to experience it being outside North America, but the videos put out by loads of people are showing increasingly intervention free drives. Not perfect yet, but no one says it is.
Regarding FSD for freeway driving.. My experience is most traffic speed is above the limits. I would expect the FSD would not go above those limits and that's a problem if it makes your car the slowest on the freeway. However, it makes a lot more sense for city or urban driving. Boomers will find it compelling.
my new Model Y ER just put on an impromptu light & sound show featuring deep rumbles and the headlights flashing TESLA on the garage wall! What was that !?
What I can't figure out.....thanks for the video by the way, always good. ....is I pay for Spotify but Tesla wants me to pay again or double to sign into my Spotify to play it THROUGH my car. Not cool. Or am I missing something here?
Can you do an hour long drive hands free at 80 mph, or does it restrict you to the speed limit? I am happy with autopilot, because it lets me do 20 mph over the speed limit, but have never tried FSD.
I just leased a 2020 MYLR a couple weeks ago and absolutely love this car. However, I did not get a rear cargo cover. Frankly, I didn’t even think of it while I was inspecting the vehicle are they still included?
My only issue is my Y will not stay in the 5 miles over in Auto Pilot. If I go through a slower speed zone like a 45 mile in a 55 it will only go 50 mph .. It stays there or I drive off the highway, then come back on to reset it. Even in high zones and always in rural areas.. Why AWD its RWD ??????
Ngl, I’ve done ALOT of hating on EVs over the last few months but I rented a model y and ended up secretly liking it. Also realized that it’s just a car with a different source power. So I became open minded. I daily drive a muscle car everyday and have considered an EV now because after looking into it the savings on fuel can’t be beat. But I guess im going to the dark side and can’t wait. I do have a question for anyone who currently owns a tesla. Has anyone boughten the power wall and charger and moved? If you did, did touch the equipment with you and how much was it to relocate that stuff?
We have 2 2018 M3LR and only use the mobile charger to keep them charged with a 30 and 50 amp adapter. No need to get the wall charger. We both drive 50 and 75 miles to work one way and have no trouble with keeping charged (unless we forget to plug it in 😂)
I love my Model Y but I wish in the app I could open ea individual door or have car do facial recognition and just unlock the door I am at. At this time in order to open any door I have to open drivers door and hold button down then go open the door I want. I don’t want to set it to unlock all the doors all the time because I just don’t want that option when I am by myself.
Does it have AM, FM and Sirius XM? Those are the only ones I listen to. Rear cross traffic alert would also be a required feature especially with that poor rear visibility. Camera views just don't cut it.
Here’s a tube of moisturizer for $10. Yes, it has moisturizer in it and comes with a pump for easy dispensing. What.. you want to pump two portions at once? That’ll be $2 more please.
I, too, am 81 years old but decided not to wait for the upgrade that: 1) may not come in 2025 (never know with Tesla) and 2 If they do the upgrade, I'm guessing no special deals (other than Fed $7500) for awhile. PS Just love this vehicle; I purchased the 2024 Model Y AWD in March, 2024 and have zero issues thus far. I do agree with the limited view through rear window but, as others have pointed out, you get used to that very fast.
@@lastlion65 I'm 68 and would like it to be my last car also. For that reason, I think I'll wait a few more years....let the batteries get a little better, the FSD a little better, the hardware versions a little higher and hopefully...in the middle or near the end of this 4 yr election cycle...we still have the robust Inflation Reduction Act in tact with the tax incentives incentives for electric vehicles. I'd probably buy now, before the election and ahead of Juniper if I was on a "2 more cars" plan. Even delaying my purchase for another 3 years with the advancements that delay brings may not be enough to keep me out of the 2 more cars plan. This is because I expect I will NEED full functioning FSD in 10 to 15 yrs and I have concerns about the Hardware Level in a 2027 Tesla I buy being able to run the 2040 version of FSD. I hope they design the ability for easy Hardware upgrades into these vehicles over the next few years.
Hey Ryan!! (Hopefully you read my comment) do you have any ideas on how to disable the “Asleep” feature from one of the latest updates? When my model 3 is “asleep”, I can’t access it remotely… it’s driving me insane! Thank you!! 😊 Great videos, BTW!
Would love to replace my Model 3 with a Model Y. But maps is not that good IMHO. Apple Maps is way better. Tesla maps consistently mispronounces a street near my house. It's literally misspelled on screen so it pronounces it wrong. I tried sending feedback a couple times, but it never got updated. Also, I drive down a road that was re-built and moved over about 50 feet about a year ago and Tesla maps keeps telling me to turn on the road even though it's straight and there's no place to turn. Apple Maps updated as it was being re-built and was fully updated many months ago.

One guy I knew that had the Model X, had many issues that Tesla couldn’t even fix. You also don’t know how the previous owner charged the car which can affect the battery. If you want less headaches I would go with the Model Y.
I have the almost same model Y as you. 2022 Model Y, white, but black interior. Best. Car. Ever. And that's a close second to my M3, which my kids use. After paying $8K for FSD back in 2019-ish on a model 3, and the kids totaling the car, I swore I would never pay for FSD again. But now I've subscribed to FSD for $100 per month, and very satisfied. Would even be prepared to pay a bit more, just don't tell Elon ;-)
Poor Americans .. my Shanghai built model y is near perfection No rattles Paint is heaps better Perfect panel gaps like even better than some Germans.. And the door shuts perfectly.
Always funny to me when guys post that they bought a car for the best deal ever - because of their expert negotiation skills of course. Who cares? You got a vehicle and nobody’s gonna know what your payment is unless you provide a statement of account, which you probably won’t because you probably didn’t get it for the best deal ever. IJS

Is it driverless??
Would love to replace my Model 3 with a Model Y. But maps is not that good IMHO. Apple Maps is way better. Tesla maps consistently mispronounces a street near my house. It's literally misspelled on screen so it pronounces it wrong. I tried sending feedback a couple times, but it never got updated. Also, I drive down a road that was re-built and moved over about 50 feet about a year ago and Tesla maps keeps telling me to turn on the road even though it's straight and there's no place to turn. Apple Maps updated as it was being re-built and was fully updated many months ago.
Tesla is using google maps.
I wish model y had real blind spot monitors. It's my number one hardware request.
Only thing I’d complain is the range kinda sucks. And charging performance is average at best
Does Auto Park require a subscription to FSD?
Yes
@@bt4b4 Sucks ...Color $1000, Hitch $1000, Power boost $2000. FSD 99 a month. Insurance 60% higher, Gas or registration state tax 500 Yr more. KW .25 no off peek time But Ill drive nothing else

Ryan, Any rumors on when the foundation Cybertruck will ship with the gray interior and all season tires? I switched my order the day they announced the option. Actually the same day I received my VIN :-( and had to give up my VIN to someone else.
I’ve been going back and forth between buying a new 24 model y RWD or a used 17/18 model x.
Any opinions in either direction?
(I am aware of the insurance differences)
And while I’m also willing to wait and save til the refresh comes out I’m pretty worried about the tax exemption being lost or the refresh price jumping a lot, I believe the model 3 jumped up $1000 which isn’t a big deal
One guy I knew that had the Model X, had many issues that Tesla couldn’t even fix. You also don’t know how the previous owner charged the car which can affect the battery. If you want less headaches I would go with the Model Y.
Love ours! 👍
Doing a car review at 20k miles in 2 years? Seems a big early to do a review.
When will Teslas overcome all these flaws, and when will FSD be solid and reliable. Something you can trust.
Maybe in 2026 or 2027?
Should we wait for 2025 New interior one lol
Poor Americans ..
my Shanghai built model y is near perfection
No rattles
Paint is heaps better
Perfect panel gaps like even better than some Germans..
And the door shuts perfectly.
Auto Park is fun - whips the wheel around to BACK the car into parking slots faster than you ever could.
waiting for the Juniper
This is not a 2024 version
It's the plaid badge that throws people off.
Great vehicle. Love my 2023. Would love to see a better blind spot monitor and cross traffic alert
IJS

there is no back cover for China made model Y
I love my BMW X3, not sure why I would ever want to switch to a Y.
why even comment this. useless comment
@ Your comment is more useless. My comment was at least related to the topic.
@@PH-md8xp you watched a video about a car, and said “i don’t want this car”
@@scoob9735 Yes, and I offered a reason that is important to me as an owner of a BMW x3. Finally, you’re understanding. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
