Yes he actually used the verb Understand in the present continuous form while explaining the use of the phrasal verb: get through to Grammar books are intended to be a description of what a language’s features are not a set of rules which are set in stone. Bear in mind Mac Donald’s slogan: I’m loving it. Everyone can customize a language to add emphasis to a concept. Be creative!! @@tothepointenglishwithben.

Why are you saying "Am I understanding"? Isn't it a stative verb that cannot be used in continuous?
It can be used in the continuous form but it's not common. Are you sure said it?
