The Classic Heep line-up- Mick Box on Lead Guitar, the late great Ken Hensley on Keyboards, the late great Gary Thain on Bass and the late Lee "The Bear" Kerslake on drums. And it was Ken harmonizing with the late, great David Byron.

In the first half of the 1970s in Britain there were the 'big four' of the most popular British bands that played heavy music: LED ZEPPELIN, DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH, URIAH HEEP. It is these bands that are considered to have laid the foundations of heavy metal.
The first Album URIAH HEEP was released in 1970. During the period from 1970 to 1983, 15 of the band's Albums were included in the Billboard 200 in US.
In the spring of 2024, JUDAS PRIEST, URIAH HEEP and SAXON held a joint European Tour.

Hey ...and do not forgett about " The Park" ...or " Rain" ... Davids Voice is a Killer there. Silky and smooth. Even Kens Version of " Rain " is beautyfull at his " Proud words on a dusty shell" and "House on the Hill" on " Eager to please" are sung very smooth by Ken.

If you check it out, this is the version even though it appears to be lip synched. Bands were not making videos back then so don’t be fooled by well meaning fan videos. You will definitely want lyrics available and exercise your rewind finger.

Uriah Heep was (very sadly) one of those underrated bands in the UK from the 60's and 70's. As far as I am concerned they were up there with bands like Yes, Deep Purple, Led Zep, Jethro Tull ... but you never heard their names mentioned when discussing the "power bands". Try a UH song called "Salisbury".

Uriah Heep is a british band formed in 1969 and that is still active. "Demons and Wizars" (1972) is their masterpiece with this classic lineup: Mick Box (guitar. The only original that remains today), David Byron (lead vocal), Ken Hensley (keyboards and guitars. The main composer), Gary Thain (bass) and Lee Kerslake (drums). In this era, the band was notable for the vocals harmonies in wich all members sing. Hug from Brazil

  • @GrandmasGotGraceLW
    @GrandmasGotGraceLW 3 місяці тому +3

Mick Box began the (English) band and it went through a number of different names. They were originally (in 1967) named "Spice". In 1969, the name was (officially) changed to that of the well-known character from David Copperfield, Uriah Heep (due to, according to biographer Kirk Blows, "Dickens' name being everywhere around Christmas '69, since it was the hundredth anniversary of his death"). According to Dave Ling's 2001 autobiography of the band ("Wizards and Demons, The Uriah Heep Story") though the "Uriah Heep" moniker was CHOSEN in December 1969, the band continued to play gigs as "Spice" until Ken Hensley joined in February 1970.
You can read more about that, in the WIKIPEDIA article about them.
Mick Box is still alive and the band is still going. They have concerts scheduled for the summer of 2024! They were just in Louisville, KY, in the Mercury Ballroom, on Sunday, April 28! Unfortunately, I don't see anything for the rest of the tour, that would be anywhere close to you.
The current members are: Mick Box, Phil Lanzon, Bernie Shaw, Russell Gilbrook, and Dave Rimmer. The band, by the way, is considered one of the BIG lead-ins to any of the "metal" genre songs--at least by their SOUND. I think that because of some of the songs they sang, they also kind of ended up getting a bit of a "not-so-great" name glued to ANY band who grabbed onto their style, and that's a shame, because (as I've recently seen and understood) there have been MANY metal bands who used the STYLE to sing a completely different, GOOD message.
I knew who they WERE, back in the 70s, but by 1974, I was just finding my way back into (after 14 years of walking my way out of...I thought) the arms of the God who NEVER LET ME GO, and I wasn't focused on any other kind of music except for that which was giving honor and glory to God Almighty, which was NOT what was coming from the Uriah Heep band.
The way they performed this song reminds me quite a LOT of the music of "For King and Country!"

The current lineup is very good, in the 80s they changed their sound a little to fit the era but for the most of the 70s they were killer. From the 90s on, they have still been rocking what I call progressive hard rock sound. I'd recommend the following songs: Easy Livin', Gypsy, July Morning, Lady in Black, Bird of Prey and there is so much more but thee come to mind.

David Byron, IMO, was one of the greatest frontmen ever. (I've seen them live a few times.) Stage presence? Forget it. This guy's got ARENA presence! It's like he alone filled the entire arena with his presence! Video, in no way, comes close to capturing it.
I was curious what makes stage presence, so I looked it up. I found a site that teaches stage presence, and Byron used all the tricks. (I won't give them away.) His parents worked in theater, btw. But it goes beyond that. A band member remarked that if you were sitting in a room with your back to the door when he walked in, you could just know it was he who had entered. You could just feel his presence.
I found it amusing that Jim Morrison broke every rule in the book about stage presence, yet he very definitely had it, big time!
The Doors vs Heep: Polar opposites in every way, but they are my two favorite bands, by far.

To those who don't know them, I use to define Uriah Heep as "kinda similar to Deep Purple but with more magic on top".
While they have never been the most technical musicians, they could write and perform timeless classics such as this one and many others.
Their REAL strength was in vocal harmonies, no one else could match them in that regard, at least not until Queen came out (and I do believe Queen took more than some clues from Heep).

I can suggest you check out a band that you most likely don’t know about yet. Super professionals! I think you will be very surprised when you see who is part of this band!
They are often compared to JUDAS PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN. The band is called LOVEBITES. Formed in 2016.
The youngest member of the band turned 22 today. Phenomenal bassist. During the competition for the position of LOVEBITES Bassist (which took place in 3 stages over 6 months!), this bassist was selected from approximately 250 bassists who applied from all over the world! Has a YT channel with 695,000 subscribers.
In terms of teamwork and guitar synchronization/harmonization, the band's two guitarists are often cited as the best pair of guitarists in metal today.
In 2018 , LOVEBITES won the prestigious Metal Hammer GOLDEN GODS Award for "Best New Band" (London,UK). The winners of the GOLDEN GODS Award in different years and in various categories were such famous bands and musicians, such as: BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, MOTöRHEAD, JUDAS PRIEST, TWISTED SISTER, OZZY OSBOURNE, LEMMY KILMISTER, ZAKK WYLDE, NIKKI SIXX, JOE PERRY, BRIAN MAY, ANTHRAX, SLAYER, TESTAMENT, SAXON, NIGHTWISH, TRIVIUM, RAMMSTEIN, SABATON, CHILDREN OF BODOM, ARCH ENEMY, MACHINE HEAD (and this is not a complete list).
LOVEBITES play speed, thrash, progressive, power, neoclassical metal. Some songs have elements of symphonic metal and hard rock. LOVEBITES also plays classical music (piano) in concerts.
The 2023 studio album LOVEBITES was ranked #15 on Metal Hammer's list of the '50 Best Metal Albums of 2023'. Metal Hammer is the largest and most authoritative magazine in the world dedicated to heavy music. It was founded in 1983. The band's previous releases, as well as their songs, also occupied high places in various charts, ratings and polls of specialized music media.
In June 2024, LOVEBITES will perform at 'Hellfest Summer Open Air'. This is the largest rock festival in France. LOVEBITES will perform on the same stage (“Mainstage 01”) with MEGADETH, METALLICA, MACHINE HEAD, AVENGED SEVENFOLD.
This is very, very short. The bare minimum of information about LOVEBITES. If you like 'old school' metal, if I intrigue you, then I suggest checking out any of these songs:
LOVEBITES - 'Stand And Deliver (Shoot 'em Down)' ( ' Knockin' At Heaven's Gate - Part II', Live, 2023)
LOVEBITES - 'Set The World On Fire' (Live from 'Ride For Vengeance Tour 2021')
LOVEBITES - 'The Hammer Of Wrath' ( 'Knockin' At Heaven's Gate', Live, 2023).
By these names you can find videos on YT.
P.S. Only I warn you that after the reaction to you in the comment, there may be an invasion of the Wolf Pack. From different countries of the world. The talisman of LOVEBITES is the 'White Wolf'. Accordingly, the Fans call themselves the Wolf Pack.
But you don't have to worry. When Reactors treat LOVEBITES with respect, the Wolf Pack behaves very friendly. Criticism is allowed. The Wolf Pack react normally to constructive criticism.
The Wolf Pack will tell you everything else about LOVEBITES in the comments. If you check out LOVEBITES.
