As a veteran of the Cordis Die uprising of 2025 that has yet to happen, I gotta say that the Scar H has stood by my side throughout my Black Ops 2 career.
What I never understood is that in video games(at least for me), FN SCAR was always portrayed them to have a high recoil. However, it's not really the case IRL as it feels different than I had expected when I shot one. It was precise, accurate, and the recoil was actually manageable(I don't shoot a lot of rifles here). Not to mention, I've heard there was a feature the FN SCAR had that reduced the amount maintenance it requires.
@@jermainemcqueen8997 no, I've tried full automatic too. Again, recoil was not what I had expected for the SCAR irl. And this was a factory SCAR, no attachments or parts added/changed. I'm not saying there was no recoil. I was expecting like a heavy kick, making it hard for me to keep the gun steady for a second shot. Instead, I was just surprised how the recoil felt from the SCAR: manageable.
@@yuutokasane3332yeah. When it comes to most shooter games, a gun that hits like the SCAR does with easy recoil would have no competition. So to make it fair and balanced they have to sacrifice a bit of realism
2 Deployments with a Scar-H, 3 deployments with a Scar-H 5.56 conversion kit. Never a single malfunction attributed to the weapon system. Few bad primers, user induced malfunctions due to firing suppressed without moving the gas block selector to suppressed mode. As far as the reciprocating charging handle, I call it the self correcting charging handle, If you know and train the weapon system, this won't be an issue. The mag drops because of the ambi mag release hitting your kit is real, as well as finding the weapon on fire after climbing walls and etc because of the ambi safety. Never experienced any buttstock issues because I simply trained others and myself to push the button when extending instead of slamming it closed. Fantastic, extremely reliable, extremely accurate weapon system that is vastly superior to an M4 stock for stock. M4's superior aftermarket has a say in the end though. Thanks for an honest review for those who have never had the opportunity to experience this weapons system in the environment it was intended to be in, it does look good on instagram though.
I’ve been using the SCAR for years and I’ve never had any issues with it. For sure one of the most reliable weapons ever, eventually though my keyboard broke.
"Hey... yeah, I'm Kyle, a competitive shooter!" "Oh, hey kyle, where do you compete, IDPA, 3-gun....?" "I compete with the A10 in how many Taliban I can kill!"
I always found that the biggest issue, the SCAR is extremely expensive, with all the supporting aftermarket support being expensive as well, whereas the AR platform has been around longer, is more known, has more history, more popular, cheaper, more support etc. The price difference in performance just really isn't worth it.
You could also add to that the fact, that spare parts are really not there for civvies. It sometimes feels like some of the decidents at FN would pay out of their pockets not to have their products on the civilian market.
Yeah I can't find a single reason how FN thinks they can charge $4000+ for a scar. Sort of like HK they just overprice their rifles out of the civilian market.

Same! For the life of me i can't understand what the criteria used by almost the entirety of the gun community in the US to determine what a "good" or "bad" looking rifle looks like. I can't count how many guns that i thought looked absolutely badass, to then later find out nearly everyone i talk to in the US absolutely despise it and think it's ugly as shit. The only standard that i can come up with, (when it comes to rifles), is that the more a gun resembles an AR15 - the better looking the gun is considered, while the more a gun looks different from an AR15 - the uglier that gun is considered. This rifle and the ARX160 are perfect examples of this. With the SCAR's stock being seemingly universally considered terrible looking, while i on the other hand like it. I mean, pretty much every relatively newer non-ar15 rifle platforms have very similar looking stocks, from the Radon MSBS-Grot, to the HK-433, the ARX160, the Bren and Bren 2, to the Bushmaster ACR.
@@8301TheJMan some things are just objectively better looking than other things in their respective categories. I'm an AR fanboy so I love the way they look. The government hates them and when liberals think of what a "scary" looking gun is they think of the AR. It just has that look, such a great looking rifle. The scar just has a more "toyish" look to me, the plastic lower reciever doesn't help either.
Back in my day when I was deployed, me and my squad parachuted of a bus with balloons and landed in a town called tilted towers and the scar helped us take out many insurgents. It’s a beautiful gun, very reliable and worth the price
Great video, and very valid points on pros and cons. I love my SCAR 17s, and with large number of rounds down range I have never had one issue, along with the accuracy is the same as the day I brought her home. It's just to bad I lost it in a boating accident last fishing season....
10:03. Yeah that's a good point. Different calibers do different things. Like you guys said. 556 = 400 yards and below generally. Lighter and carry more ammo. 308 = 500 - 800 yards generally. Heavier and carry less ammo. Environment is a consideration: Mountian = long distance (308) Desert = long distance (308) Tundra or grassland = long distance (308) Urban = varried (556 preferred or 308) Woodland = middle to short distance (556) Jungle = short distance (556)
The SCAR is a very good weapon, it's just more of a "role player" in combat. Where the M4 can be used effectively in just about every situation, the SCAR is much more effective when used in the situations it was designed for (as more of a battle rifle), it's just not as versatile. These are all points that fall under the conversation of real-world combat anyways. If you're like me, a gun smith who just loves to shoot and tinker, SCARs are just awesome - period
The way to think about it is that any gun can be used at almost any range. However, each gun, dependent on calibre, barrel length, etc., has an ideal range. This is where it gets the classification of a "battle rifle", because it lies between the role of an assault rifle and a marksman rifle. Modern combat often involves fighting terrorists or insurgents who lack sufficient weaponry, or involves vehicles. As a consequence, the m4 is considered more versatile simply because long range ambushes are much less frequent than their close range counterparts, however they still have the same "range" of functions, this range is just shifted.
@@bope5706 Yeah exactly. That’s why I specifically said “most effective” rather than speaking in absolutes. The SCAR would do just fine in a mid-range engagement, it’s just that a M4 would be more effective because short-mid range is exactly what it’s designed to do. And vise verse, you can use an M4 at longer ranges and you would be okay, but a SCAR-H chambered in 7.62 or .308 would work much more effectively. As you said it has more to do with caliber and barrel length than anything else when shifting ranges
@@bope5706 I could be wrong, seeing that I'm not yet in the military, but I swore that the average range in which they would engage targets were like 300m-600m. So the SCAR would have been perfect for that. Like I said, I could be really wrong so take it with a grain of salt. It probably also depended on where the firefight took place. Being out in the mountains there I could definitely see them engaging targets at a far distance, seeing how there's not really a lot of cover.
@@antthomas7916 correct, however the military currently uses both the m4 and the scar-h, as well as other various rifles. In addition to this, in many of the engagements made, we are the first to strike, so we will choose a distance that favors our rifles. However, we cannot always fight at long range, and especially in a city, close range fighting is bound to happen. At this range the cost of the SCAR being less effective is your life, while at longer range the m4 is simply wasting ammo. Note that I don't own either of these rifles, but I understand this to be the reason the m4 is considered more useful/reliable.

The "inverted recoil" is a good point and a big torture test for optics. Airgun tend to do that, ans some 4.5mm air rifles destroy optics that are fine on a .308. The biggest head scratching we had with that was trying to make heavy DMR's out of SIG510. Roller delayed, nearly 1kg of bolt, heavy springs, fast bolt movement. The schmidt bender PM2 had their reticles moving, we first tought the rifle was drifting but it was the little springs holding the reticle that weren't strong enough.

Kinda like the Kriss Vector in COD. I guess it’s just to balance the weapons out
Thats probabbllyyyy cuz you're not shooting it in fully automatic like u would be in video games. Thay would be my take on it? I could be wrong tho

You could also add to that the fact, that spare parts are really not there for civvies. It sometimes feels like some of the decidents at FN would pay out of their pockets not to have their products on the civilian market.

It feels like it will float away if you don’t hold it tight.
@@bope5706 more like because the m4 and its ammo are lighter than the SCAR and its ammo.

They also come with a Non Reciprocating Charging Handle now. Just swap the Giselle trigger, and get rid of the ugg boot, then its gold.
"if youve ever played with a scar in a video game... THEN LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE" how did i not see that coming
did it, Don't know how i havnt done it before
Kyle: "I have killed lotta people with the SCAR-H"
It cannot be understated how smooth that big ass bolt carrier runs on those rails.
*overstated
unfortunately haven't used a scar in a video game, I have used the 'TAQ-56' which reminds me alot of one
The TAQ-56 is actually a Scar. However there are legal reasons why in MW2 they can't actually call it by its real name
@@HiddenTalon4 irony
The TAQ-M is the SCAR-H. The 56 is the SCAR-L.
I like to use the service rifle of our military. The Steyr AUG A3 or know as the STB-556
@@alienaurochs then what is the TAQ-V?

I love that Kyle respectfully fails to mention his "real world experience" with this platform. Vaguely hinting at "competition shooting". Seems like he can't talk about his real job.
It took me two years to save up for my SCAR but it was totally worth it.
Well done brudda!
I cant stand when people complain about price of something...eat some ramen noodles and shut up! When you eatin ramen with a scar 17 itll all be worth it
And then there is the superior Smith & Wesson AR10, less than half the price
@@wendel5868 I’m going have to disagree but it is a good rifle.
@@wendel5868 superior in what ways?
works like a dream in sandstorm, she hits. no malfunctions ever
**Shaun Ryan watches intently**
HA!
Right, I seen the video where they say the scar is garbage
*I know that reference* lol
He suckssss
Yeah his review was TRASH. Finally a good review on the SCAR. People that hate on the SCAR don’t understand that it is a tool. Like all tools, it has its uses. Use the right tool for the job. It’s a fantastic gun.
I will say that my SCAR came with a type of tacky, preservative grease from the factory, and I was experiencing malfunctions with non FMJ ammo at first. After I thoroughly cleaned it off, I have had no needing problems. For me, it was operator error.
Its called cosmoline. They use it as rust prevantative for arms transport and is meant to be cleaned off before operation.
@@steveo3947 reports of russian cosmoline preserving aks in storage for decades
I'm one of the weird people that actually loves the SCAR Ugg boot and refuses to change it.
I ran the KDG on it for a long time and hated it. The UGG boot is supreme
Agreed.
It’s the classic butt stock. It’s not really a SCAR without it. How are fellow LARPers gonna know your sporting a $3500 rifle?
I like it just fine as well. No reason to change it. In fact, I took all of the KDG stuff I had on mine off.
Tried an ACR stock, swapped back immediately. I find the Ugg boot comfy.
"I will do nothing to control you."
*Immediately tells me to do something.*
Never change man.
