One thing I'd really love to see on the channel would be an SVT-40, really interesting rifle and 10 rounds of 54R down range in rapid succession has gotta be fun
Also to have Brandon resolve the ages-old debate of whether SVT-40 was a masterpiece or overengineered. Germans killed the vast majority of intended operators of SVT-40 in June 1941, and lots of new conscripts reported having trouble with the gun's maintenance and low reliability due to too many parts, so they preferred Mosins instead. Meanwhile some trained operators were super fond of the rifle and insisted one simply needs to learn to handle it properly.
Same thoughts I had. The Crimson Trace "RMR At Home" looked wobbly AF on this gun during the slow-mo. I know the gun has a reputation of loosening optics, but using a cheap Walmart red dot isn't doing it any favors, lol.
I neither own a gun (European here) nor am especially interested in them, but I've just subscribed to your channel because you are genuinely funny and passionate about your hobby.
I'm a fan of FN's firearms, they are all so damn iconic (even if a lot of them have flaws). I mean shit, the p90, fn57, scar, m249, and the fal; shits just dope.
they actually tend to be pretty fucking reliable vs other guns. FAL and FNC are known for their AK like durability. not sure about m249 but the minimi is pretty fucking good, our army even bought the 7.62 version to replace out FN MAG's (M240) 5.7 and p90 can be a bit flimsy but theyre usually used in urban warfare so they dont tend to get beat up that much
@@jacksonbeeftown6908 I just bought my AKM replica, Polish gun laws require me to be 21 to even apply for a gun license, but when I get mine I'll buy a PPSh-41, then maybe a Tantal or polish AKM.
I'M a battle rifle guy from head to toe. I was trained on the HK G3 way back when i served (i'm german, served in the 90's). One day our regiment shared the range with an american unit and i had the chance to fire an M16 A2 (standard drill, 20 rounds, varying ranges, pop-up man-silhouettes) and an M60. The M16 felt like a Super Soaker to me and i fucking fell in love with the M60 (the sheer sound of it, magnificent^^). Needless to say i shot "rifle expert" because the firing drills of u.s. and german forces couldn't have been any more different back then. Bundeswehr trained for accuracy with 6 rounds in the mag shooting at what i would translate to match targets (y'know from 0 to 10 points with an X in the dead center.) Shooting the M16 felt like no effort at all, like a toy gun. The SCAR-H looks like something i would love to shoot with and probably never will :(
First introduction to this was MGS4 which called it “Mk. 17” as it hadn’t been assigned “SCAR” when the game was being made. (XM8 was also big at this time) Then BF3 and 4. Good times. Wish Canada had better gun laws.
Probably to reduce the amount of shock from the rounds going off, with a bit of slack some of the energy is lost but if it's tight it'll be getting the full force of it.
I sold my Scar 17 about 4 years ago so I could get an M40A1. While I love that M40A1 I miss the scar17 so much cuz it was such a great gun. My round count before getting rid of it was right around 5k with only 3 failures. Two were ammo related and the 3rd was a weird one where the brass case didn’t eject and kind got stuck in the chamber. There was no claw marks on it or anything. Anyway, that was at about 1800 rounds and I couldn’t get it to do it again. Accuracy was good as it was always 1-3 MOA with cheap ammo and 3/4 with good ammo. My only issue with it was that it would shake my Larue QD optic mounts loose. I eventually got a non QD Spuhr and that held just fine. Still love that gun. I have a scar 20 now which is way more accurate but it’s heavy as hell and is more of a bench gun than a lightweight battle rifle.
Update from the future in 2023… I’ve rewatched this video 50 times over the last year and finally decided to grab my ankles and purchased another Scar 17. I’m happy to report that it is still a F’n awesome rifle.
Good and funny review, Brandon. I bought a 20S and 16S in the last few months, and they’ve become my favorite rifles. I’ve now started buying FN handguns to go with them. Great company.
Sadly the ATF says that's a big nono. Not entirely sure how it would work for an SOT but I'd assume you'd probably have to make a new auto sear for it.
@@wraithmagnum Oh I'm well aware. They're one of the most common pre ban auto sears available. The issue is that the ATF ruled that they can only be used in original FNCs. You can't even put them in repros let alone the Mk 17/Scar 17 platform. Pretty sure they don't even allow them in parts kits builds. Alphabet boys are little shits like that. Again, I'm not sure if an SOT has to follow that rule but as it stands that's the rule.
Brandon: drops several G's on a fucking scar Also Brandon: loads it with the shittiest polymer coated steel case dog shit ammo he can find Never change
Bruh, that's absolutely stupid. If it wasn't designed to run something then don't go putting it in there. It's how you end up with torn, brass cases in G3s; or under gassed guns that were designed to run brass.
I remember (poorly) watching a Shawn Ryan interview with a Chad Marine who recounted taking down a terrorist with one of these. What stuck with me was the smile on his face when he described how definitively it ended that POS’s day. He said it was gnarly.
i always love how the scar looks mostly because of it`s straight mag lol it`s just so much more aesthetically pleasing than a curved one at least to me
I'm canadian. Last year I got to go down to Nashville with my buddy. The most memorable part of that trip was going to royal range in frankin and shooting a full auto ak and scar 17. It was so fun. First time going full auto and first time shooting something bigger and a .22
After plenty of experience with building and shooting fal's I got a 17 its like a fal much lighter and 400% more accruate. I run a 1-6 Swarovski on mine.
I've never subscribed to the school of having to hold a rifle a certain way to be good at it, shoot how you're comfortable, but how you shoot a rifle that heavy with your hands that close together on the frame accurately is beyond me. Respect.
For example, the FN Five Seven. Because a P90 ammunition based sidearm that can have a 30 round magazine (which is hugely expensive) absolutely stands out amongst the crowd and boldly says "look at me, I'm amazing!"
I wonder if the SCAR would be looked at differently if it were introduced nowadays instead of 10yrs ago. The new ones with non reciprocating charging handles and with the availability of optics that can stand up to the recoil I feel like it might be more widely accepted.
I feel like Brandon is the most indecisive mother lover on the planet when it comes to his "battle gun" like shtf zombies, civil war, invasion whatever gun he's grabbing when he puts on his plate carrier. he probably swaps out guns every month or so
What I've noticed with my limited experience with the Scar-H (no experience with the civilian version) is the recoil on semi is FAR more manageable than you may think and the recoil on full pew pew is not quite as bad as I was expecting being a .308. Also the OOBE is quite nice overall. Do I have hundreds of hours of combat experience with one? I can't say I do but with my experience and what I DO know about the weapon system I would be willing to take it into combat even if just for a limited time.
Brandon, welcome to the club. I got mine almost exactly 6 years ago. Despite what the haters say, it’s *AMAZINGLY* accurate for a semiauto "battle rifle". After zeroing, my first 10 rounds of bulk loaded (Freedom Munitions) 168 grain BTHP went into 3/4” at 100 yards. The only downside is that they’re not a particularly good suppressor host, unless you’re using a flow-through design like OSS cans. Unfortunately for me, I can’t afford one of those right now. I have shot it through a form 1 can I built, and it worked OK, but FN says that if you suppress the rifle-even using the suppressor setting on the gas block-it will void the warranty. I believe the reason is that there have been some cases of the bolt/carrier interface being destroyed by too much suppressed firing. So I don’t want to do too much if that anyway. But they are REALLY LOUD with that OEM muzzle break. Other than the suppressor issue, I would be as comfortable with my SCAR in a SHTF situation as I would be with almost any other .308 battle rifle I can think of. Heck, even the FAL/SLR and the M14/M1A have known issues. Even the ubiquitous AR10 has commonality of parts issues between brands that don’t plague the AR15 world. If you had to have one rifle for all purpose use, including both tactical, and hunting anything that a .308 will take down, the SCAR is a great choice. Enjoy your new toy!

I've wanted an FN FAL Para for years but they have become unicorns. But this is supposedly to be thr Fal's progeny and I just had to have it. Folding stock like the old Para, 7.62x51, and super lineage as a real battle rifle. Love the ergonomics, the light weight, heavy hitter caliber, and unlike a lot of boutique manufacturers making .308 AR-10s, this is a real version of a military issued rifle except for the select fire. Love my black Ugg boot.
I recently had the blessing of AK daddy to hold an AK 47 but since this was at a military history museum in south Africa so you can imagine what model of AK this was. There also was the Chinese and Romanian AK's. Fair enough I was freaking out

He was about to shit himself after seeing this SCAR-17. he examined the scar, took PMC's dogtag, checked it and the PMC had died to gluhar. His heart started pounding while running towards CP fence. He proned in the corner while staring at the extraction timer. He succesfully extracted with the SCAR-17.. and thats how he got it.
My dad has a scar-17 as well but fully blacked out with a modded trigger 24x scope with a red dot on the side a sling and an under barrel grip. It’s a very nice gun

I shot a full auto SCAR-H at the FN Warrior Shoot and if you aren't ready for it, the muzzle is pointed at the top of the berm by the time the third round is fired. Definitely a fun gun.
As a Belgian, I love the enthusiasm people have for the FN. .308 The hunting rifle calibre "isnt made for accuracy" so all that money spent on long range bolt action and self loading rifles was for nothing? The .308 is a long distance rifle calibre, I know that and I'm English, I'm not even allowed a pistol let alone a long range rifle and I know that. What would you use .308 for? Intermediate cartridges cover medium range, submachine guns pistols and shotguns cover close range room clearing and urban combat. Man with a .308 bolt action takes the fields and mountains mate, snipin' or huntin' takin em down from afar. Close range it's overkill.
@@wulfengel the 308 isn't really a long range cartridge, it's going subsonic around 800 yds with m80 ball. With some better ammo it'll go subsonic around 1000. It's a longer range round than 7.62x39 or 5.56, but that's not saying much. Compared to an actual long range rifle like 338-378, 375 chey tac, etc, 308 has maybe half the supersonic range and maybe a quarter the energy at those ranges.
Ah man, the SCAR; it's always to me looked like the "Workhorse" of assault rifles: its big to absorb recoil, modular enough you can trick to your hearts content, and durable enough to take what you throw at it. Sure, you need to do more maintenance on it than AKs, but it doesn't need as much as I've found the AR family needs...
It doesn’t actually require that much maintenance…at least mine hasn’t. It does have one known weakness in combat…. Sometimes Special Forces teams would keep a spare "Ugg Boot" buttstock on hand in their gun trucks because SCAR buttstocks have been known to break at the latch/pivot point if they get banged up hard enough under heavy impacts (think explosions, etc.). Fortunately, swapping out the buttstock takes less than a minute. There is an adapter you can buy that will mate an ACR's buttstock, which is more durable, to the SCAR's mounting plate. I know two people who have done this. OTH, mine has been just fine from the factory, and I see no need to change it. But TBH, I’m an old fat guy and my days of running around and playing hard are behind me. The one upgrade I *DO* recommend is a trigger replacement. The OEM trigger pull on mine was in the 8-9 lb pull range, and was just unacceptable for a rifle this expensive. I replaced mine with a single-stage Timney drop-in trigger pack set to 3.5 lbs. I have friends who prefer the double stage Geissele triggers for their SCARs, but they cost more than the Timney, and I like single stage triggers just fine anyway. The only other mod I made was a muzzle device to accept a can.

I've heard the Scar 17 registered part is the upper, so potentially Brandon could put an extra part in the lower and make it a little more fun, and still sell the scar to anyone if he does sell it

I got the hots for the hi-power
they actually tend to be pretty fucking reliable vs other guns.

FN firearms always have great attention to detail when it comes of MoA. It's something they really makes them stand out from other manufacturers.

I never experienced a single malfunction with it, even after thousands of rounds in Modern Warfare 2.
It’s also won many a games in fortnight lol
Wow, that was original and funny
Enjoy your new toy!

.308 The hunting rifle calibre "isnt made for accuracy" so all that money spent on long range bolt action and self loading rifles was for nothing?
It’s actually not that durable, why it wasn’t adopted
Too be specific, higher parts breakage than AR-15
@@humphreybumblecuck5151 makes sense the battle rifle firing .308 would break parts more often than a glorified varmint rifle firing .223 hahaha
Fabrique nationanle generally makes good firearms, if they arent good they are at least reasonably affordable
