I proudly rock his Dragonfly patches on my gear to this day. He honestly raised and inspired an entire generation of future gunfighters.
That story about vulnerability was powerful. I remember reaching my breaking point the day I moved out of my parent's place to a whole new state - eating fast food on the kitchen floor with all my things still packed in the truck after driving 14 hours. Never loose sight of what those moments mean, they keep you on the path.

CONSEQUENCE...Thomas Sowell taught me this point...To further the fantastic discussion you both are having on what has happened to America. We have allowed an environment to become entrenched in American society where there is no consequence for the actions of what you say or do. And politicians have become 'idea-men' who never have to deal with the consequences of their policies or programs, etc. And, of course, the loss of the value of self-respect, and the lack of respect for the sovereignty of the individual and personal liberty of others is part of root cause...

The story of the man that cried during training for missing his family was a great one. The way you handled it with such grace and delicacy was spot on. You can’t build a warrior just physically. I’m a CPA and I’m always trying to figure out ways to talk to the people I work with about how to do better and take their jobs seriously. I just want to say, I watched the whole 2 hours because the conversation was good, and there’s a lot that I was able to take from it, both from a practical perspective of taking care of my child and being able to always make sure that they’re learning and growing the “right” way, but also lessons that I was able to see and apply to people in my stuffy corporate office. I appreciate you both taking the time and digging down into those hard to talk about parts of life.

I’m saving this podcast. There’s a lot in here that I needed to hear. And a lot I’m going to have to go back and re-listen to so I can try to make things really sink in. Mid 20’s, out of shape (but I’m actively working on that), no girlfriend. Just a good paying job I can tolerate and too many ambitions with not enough drive to peruse any of them. @@Maximus5775I wish I had heard any of this information at 17. You’re already ahead of me on that front. I’ve been doing a whole lot of information/knowledge gathering the past year, but not a whole lot of practical application of it. It’s coming time to take action and not just sit around thinking about the problems and solutions. I’ve started my business and am working on that, which makes doing other things hard just due to time, but that excuse isn’t going to cut it anymore I guess. I’m rewatching this and saw my own comment. You’re 18 now and I hope things are going well. Hopefully you’re pursuing the things in life that will give yourself purpose and meaning. That’s what’s most important. Surround yourself with good people that want the best for you as well. You are the combination of the 5 people you’re closest to, so make sure whatever that looks like is someone you would want to be. I know that’s not exactly true for me right now so that’s something I have to change soon. Good luck, man.

I love how they brought up “nice guy” and “good men” we have a lot of nice guys and not enough good men. We have a lot of weak men, we have a lot of broken men, we have a lot of defeated men. Loved this podcast! Such a great conversation between these 2 legends! You guys really lay it out very well on multiple things happening in our country and around the world. I definitely share the sentiment that America feels hollow right now and we no longer are the greatest country in the world. This is a battle against good and evil and evil is becoming more brazen and arrogant. Train hard and train smart my friends!
Props to both of you guys. Love what you do. Mad respect for your service and your achievements. Here's a point of consideration based on my 20 something years studying history: America has only had a mostly unified purpose that forged us together a few times. The Revolution, sort of (Tories were colonists too), The War of 1812, The Depression, World War II, and the Cold War. Those were also some of our worst times and visionary leaders stepped forward to hold us together. The rest of the time we've been a bunch of unruly, ungovernable self interested factions at each others throats. We lack a unified purpose because there is no clear vision of the threats that face us, the outcomes we could achieve, the benefits for most of us if we push in that direction, and the values required to get us there. Enough Americans start getting on that same sheet of music and learn to respect the other differences and we can do it.
Thanks, Dad

One of the most important things that my parents did for me was to get me outdoors in a number of ways from an early age. Those times comprise the majority of my early cherished memories and were a strong foundation for learning vital lessons.
You're doing them a great service by making sure that they get to have those experiences with you.
That is some unbelievably beautiful country.
Mike thank you for all you do. I joined the Marines at 17, deployed twice. I got out and shortly after my father passed and I was 24... Hit me like a freight train. My only regret is not spending more time with him. The worst is knowing my two kids will never know their grandfather. My goal is to build something that ties us together and reinforces the idea that in the end family is your biggest ally and supporter. Keep charging brother.
Look I don’t have a dad so it’s really Tough sometimes but having mentors like you guys who I can look up to helps so much you guys are so inspirational and I’m glad I found someone who I can look at as a father figure
If a gun youtuber is your inspiration you seriously need to look elsewhere lmfao
@@fulrocker890 what’s wrong with gun UA-camrs plus is it a bad thing to have someone who inspires you. I’ve always had a love for guns and I don’t see why so many people get offended at them
@@aniya8759 it’s less of calling him daddy it’s just that I look up to him and I get the feeling you’ve never even seen his channel from your comment
@@aniya8759 besides the fact you have no right to tell me to log off and go outside with that profile pic lol
@@theeshadowwarrior1286 they're just on a different perspective. some people think you shouldn't look up to anyone you don't personally know, others to anyone period. you know what you need and if you found the values you were looking for by getting to mike and travis' content ? power to you.
One of the best podcast episodes I've seen in a while. That ending was emotional af.
The best compliment you can say about someone where I’m from, “he’s a good ‘ol boy really”. These dudes fit the bill. 🇺🇸
The bond between father and son is truly unbreakable here 💖
I’ve been watching both of y’all for years, but this is the first time I feel like we get to see your values and love for fellow man. It’s refreshing to know good men are still out there.
Agreed, but for clarity, being a good man has absolutely nothing to do with how you vote...we all need to stop talking so damn much about politics & social issues.
@@scottsherman5262 yes good men have everything to do with how you vote I’d much rather vote for a side with good me than the side were men don’t even identify as men
Talking about being vulnerable, two strong men being vulnerable with each other and on camera for us all to see, I needed to hear and see this. Thank you
I was an Eagle Scout when I was 18 so learned a lot of things like this growing up. I've been trying to to teach my oldest son things I learned. He asks me all the time why I'm "making" learn all this stuff. And I tell him it's simple. One day I won't be there and you will HAVE to do these things.
Easily one of the best common sense conversations I have seen in a long time. Thank You Gentlemen! Expect to self rescue NO-ONE IS COMING
2 Good men, outstanding gentleman, Haley is the Bruce Lee of the gun world, Mike is right there with him, I will be taking a trip to Boise!
A beautiful conversation between two great men.
I have lived in the mountains all 18 years of my life, and seeing people from the city try and walk through the woods made me realize that that is a LEARNED skill. I took it as second nature
You are a wise man.
There's 2 things in life to be thankful for....most importantly A heavenly father, and second an earthly father and a relationship with him. It's a blessing.
We need more "interviews" of good reasonable people, just tallking. This was so good that I didn't even realize how long I listened.
Granad Thumb giving hard core dad advice with his dad is wholesome.. This wound up being so much deeper than I expected. Massive respect..
This podcast was very inspirational and made some things click in my head on a direction I need to start working my family and especially myself towards.
Watching the father-son bound get stronger right in front of our eyes made me tear up. Great show.
Let me tell you what Mike makes me so proud with his answer about what he sacrificed about giving up everything for his kids that's a fucking real man we should all be fucking proud of him. We all needed... and we need to be....better fathers. I don't know the dude at all but it makes me proud to hear another man place his kids over everything.
Looking forward to Mike's courses.
Best thing I've learned from Mike, the one tool I keep in my car at all times and never too far away: an ax.
I've been musing about getting one for a while now, time to push that note up on my agenda.
GarandThumb is so down to earth, it’s impossible not to like him!
I love Travis. One of my biggest role models growing up and who I watched religiously while I was in the military. His ambition is what inspired me to train and be a leader.
This was one of my favorite episodes,
“That’s all we are pencils, the problem is no one wants to sharpen themselves because it hurts.”
Chris Pratt needs to see Exodus.
And this interview.
I think we need to all send this to him lol.
After he did The Terminal list he would be great to have on, maybe with Jack Carr.
Would be awesome, Chris Pratt was in the infantry so he can connect to these guys for sure
Chris Pratt’s brother “cully” was infantry. Chris pratt wasn’t military, he dropped out of college and was found and casted while waiting tables.
This is priceless! I need to watch this again, very inspiring. This is how social media should be used, sharing knowledge and inspiring others. The internet is like fire, it can give light to your house or burn your house down. Thanks GT, thanks Travis! We need more teachers like you.
Hey guys. Our Lady of Angels was a school fire in Chicago. 93 children and 3 nuns died. There is plenty of information on it and a book written about it. I would recommend it as good information to read. These things created our fire code. Yes learning from past history and learning/preparing from it is critical. Thanks for both of your work
CONSEQUENCE...Thomas Sowell taught me this point...To further the fantastic discussion you both are having on what has happened to America. We have allowed an environment to become entrenched in American society where there is no consequence for the actions of what you say or do. And politicians have become 'idea-men' who never have to deal with the consequences of their policies or programs, etc. And, of course, the loss of the value of self-respect, and the lack of respect for the sovereignty of the individual and personal liberty of others is part of root cause...
just got married in april. she and I are a family and I want to protect my family to the best of my ability and I hope to grow that ability level each day. I appreciate the inspiriation today! also, located in utah so I'll head up to Idaho for Onward Research!
I would love to see Mike on more podcasts. He's done a lot, seen a lot, having his brain picked a little more would be cool.
Very happy to see Mike acknowledge that censorship is happening on the Left as well. There is common ground between anyone who questions corporate power, or the neo-liberal paradigm that dominates our political-economy.
We got to be praying for these guys and share the gospel for men like these! Good dudes, love them want them in the Kingdom fighting alongside with them!
Both these guys are 100 percent genuine people and hero’s. Nothing but respect for these 2.
I love how level headed Mike Jones is... we need more of that in this world of overly emotionally reactive voices if we're ever going to find understanding.
One of the most genuine and heartfelt conversations I've ever had the pleasure to watch between two men. I learned a lot. Keep up the great work Travis and Mike. Best wishes to you both.
I just finished this episode. It was great! Much of what you guys talked about resonates with me as a man, as a father, and as a professional. I feel honored to have been on this podcast myself and to call Travis a friend. Mike, I hope to meet you soon. You both are such good men.
My two favorite people, sitting down for a discussion, I'm sorry I found those soo late. Great words guys. True Warrior Poets right there. Yeah, life sux at times, but you NEED to be mentally prepared to take those challenges head on, and defeat them. No matter how small or large they are. Community and friendships are very important to have in your tool box. Thanks guys!!!! Love you both!!
Glad I could witness this father and son conversation... we are all stronger having watched it. Nothing will give me more pleasure than standing shoulder to shoulder with 100s of other good men, WHEN the time comes.
1:10:38 I'm an investigator for a local PD and have had several classes on human trafficking.....as the father of a 1 yr old daughter, there's nothing that scares me more. Shit is out of control right now.
Thank you both for sharing what you did. That hit me on so many levels, I’m still processing.
God bless you both.
We need more of this from Mike.
These two men are here right now for a reason. I'm glad they can see a bit. It's uplifting. 🇺🇸👊💪
Two well-spoken, good men that truly make this world a better place. I could listen to hours and hours of this episode if it existed. Love em
Facts both are very well-spoken and they both speak completely differently in every way yet can speak so well.

Mike has really inspired me to become a sere specialist. I’ve been training everyday and have made a lot of progress, but still a long ways to go!
Go get it!
Worry about getting in the Air Force first!
Wow. This is one of the very best podcast episodes to which I have ever listened. I'm excited to see what both Travis and Mike do in the future.
The story of the man that cried during training for missing his family was a great one. The way you handled it with such grace and delicacy was spot on. You can’t build a warrior just physically. It’s also mental and emotional. Otherwise they are fallible and with turn their back when it matters most.
They need heart.
They need purpose, a reason to keep going Onward and shooting straight.
I wish you were my leader back in the day.
My life would be so different now
I’m a CPA and I’m always trying to figure out ways to talk to the people I work with about how to do better and take their jobs seriously.
"If you had a fire in your house what would you do?"
"...keep it going."
That was gold
GREAT CONTENT.
I was one of those who up until I watched this video thought he married your daughter and you were his father-in-law 😂
I’m in your D3 advanced pistol class in Medford next week I hope you show up and forward to meeting you I’ve been watching you for years and I appreciate your content this podcast is going to grow and continue to grow. Put together and articulated very well.
Nice, I am taking that class too, see you there!
Man this episode hit home. It's really great to see a father and son share such wisdom.
Thank you so much for this. I am so happy to see balanced, honest men, discussing what it is to be a responsible, father, husband. You gentleman are the proverbial warriors in the garden. You guys are what true alpha males look like.
Mike you are the man. Even your voice pours out the sound of honor and emotion and.. Just a level that most people don't have. You talk of family and friends and just society.. I think you should run for office.
Lots of things I have to work on and I feel like I’m starting a little late. Better late than never though.
It’s never too late you’re always going to feel that though, I’m 18 watching this podcast feeling behind having grown up not being taught self dependency based on survival, as long as you make strides to better yourself you’ll be ahead of a lot of the pack, good luck man
In the same boat I’m 17 And I got no idea what I want to do in life but I know I’ll Find out on the way 👍😎
@@Maximus5775I wish I had heard any of this information at 17. You’re already ahead of me on that front.
This is the first year I’m going to make 6 figures as a mechanical engineer, but it’s not going to mean anything if I can’t live my life the way I know I need to live it.
Great to see social engineering talked about, Jason Street has always been one of the scariest people to see work people with it.
Never forget Garand Thumb’s first hit was “The Pacific Blue Ray Menu Music”
Jump school was tense, 1st jump was door position from a C-141, 3 x, much admiration for these guys , i wish I could have been more ...
Man, catching this a year later and still relevant, would love to hear them sit down again in today's world.
Damn good listen to see the human side of Garand Thumb. Very humbling. I just want to thank you for the inspiration you’ve given me in your videos with your knowledge.
One of the best podcast ever. Thank you guys
Mike is such a killer dude. Probably one of my most watched channels on UA-cam.
