Fantastic step by step instructions. Can't thank you enough. Saved me some $$$. This is totally a DIY job, get the right tools as shown and have a bit of patience. The only tip I have for the community is when you are pulling the button assembly out of the plastic casing at the end, you just need to pull it hard to the point where you think you are going to break it, but it won't. I backed off a couple of times but then gave it a good tug and sure enough it came out without any issues. Also, I had a hard time finding T8 torx screwdrivers at Lowes. Most of the sets started from T10 and above but I managed to find the one set in the whole store that had T8.
Thanks Great Video some you tubers skim over the detail which leads to problems for do it yourselfers. Anton goes into the sort of detail you need for one off jobs. Well done
This is hands down one of the best instructional videos out there. This was exactly my problem. Broken trigger. Was able to fix it and it’s now running again. Thank you!!!
From Canada, so many thanks. My switch worked intermittently, and I thought it had suffered the same fate as described in your video. As it turned out, somewhere along the line the Dyson got REALLY dropped, and there was a spiderweb of fissures, and the little plastic tab way inside the handle broke off. In other words, the one single screw holding the switch in the handle way up the handle was gripping thin air. I fixed it with a short piece of 5 mm dowel firmly wedging the switch into the handle. - Without your video, I would have never been able to take it apart. Special thanks!! Also, unheard of, you didn't skip over any steps, and even more unheard of, you showed the reassembly step by step, rather than saying: "reassemble in reverse order."
Thanks a lot for the detailed instruction, literally the cost is 10$ vs 150$, great to see such an amazing initiative that is better than a professional original service center
Just came across this, and your instructions are so very clear, and delivered with ease. The commentary is articulate, and just enough to encourage me to have a try for myself and hopefully save a great deal of money. Thank you
Thank you for such a fabulous ‘How to fix’ video. My V11 was 6 moths out of warranty so i purchased the trigger and all tools required which you fully explained in your video and at a cost of 29 euro and set to work. I now have a fully working machine again. Thank you so much you saved me hundreds of euros.
Well I was so thankful to find your video teaching me how to disassemble, repair the cracked trigger, and then reassemble the unit. Our V10 was past warranty so you truly are a blessing. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. The hardest part was replacing the two short screws. I have big fingers. Here where we live in Canada we would say in Ojibwe, Chi Miigwetch Big thank you
Thank you for a brilliant video...despite my husband's name as the user, it was me his wife. I'm 71 and managed to repair my Dyson V10 (with a few minor, self inflicted slip ups. This unit now costs £105 so well worth the effort it took me to do the job! Star
Brilliant thanks! Mine broke in Spain, out of garranty and Dyson wanted 85€ to fix. Second break in 2 years. Reclaimed but they told me to buzz off or pay. With your video, my Dyson works again, perfectly explained. Thank you!!
The switch on mine was broken the same exact way as yours, cracked on the arm. I got a "stronger" version of the switch on Amazon. Your video was incredibly helpful in disassembling my vacuum to replace the switch. Thanks!
You are the best for creating this fix it video. I can't tha k you enough. I had the unit apart, was about to bin the unit and then watched your video. Back to good as new!
Thanks for the video it was a life saver! I just got my vacuum 4 months ago and already had this issue. I love your accent by the way! Pleasant to watch and such a good instructor you are. Thank you so much again from us California!
Followed the video step by step. It was like I somehow had your vacuum - literally the same problem, the red trigger piece was cracked at the same spot. Fixed it like in the video. Thanks, you saved me $. It's amazing how in a product that costs hundreds, Dyson was too cheap to use metal instead of plastic at the weakest point.
Thank you so much for putting this awesome video together. Our Dyson suffered the same fate as yours and my wife was on my case. After watching your video I got inspired to make the same fix and it worked a treat. You're a top man! Thanks muchly. 👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you so much for this. You just saved me 500 bucks. The thieves at Dyson repair tried to tell me the motor was burnt out. One update for you and everybody. Since this appears to be a common problem, in the middle of fixing my trigger, I found on Amazon, a place that sells a new, stronger trigger for 12 dollars. A lot for a small piece of plastic, dirt cheap for a life saver.
Thank you Anton. Magnificent instructions. Amazed to find exactly the same failure mode (cracked red trigger button). Had a made a trip to the hardware store to get a long & thin shank to access the torx screw holding the trigger in place. Your a champion Anton!
Very very helpful, I had the same issue with my v10 that was only 2 years and 2 weeks old. I watched the video and followed the tips nice and slowly, glued the broken switch back together with some epoxy and a slither of a credit card, it wasn't exactly the same spot where it snapped. Worked a treat, and I managed to get it back together with no spare screws! thanks very much.
Followed your directions to gain access to the trigger on my Dyson v10. It was cracked almost exactly at the same place and angle as was yours. I also used gorilla's super glue to fix the crack and then wrapped it with a narrow strip of aluminum tape. The vacuum cleaner is up and running. Thanks a lot for such a thorough video tutorial.
Thx Anton. Had no choice and came across your video. Under Shanghai lockdown and there’s no logistics or anything to get a new trigger. I used the cocktail sticks to strengthen instead. The two power wires took a little fiddling about but apart from that, great video. No doubt saved money on this too. Cheers
Thank you so much for this very clear video. Managed to fix my dyson which had the same issue and the local repair shop has closed down. Very much appreciated.
Thanks! Saved me a lot of time striping it down. One note, in the model I had here stateside the circuit board had been covered in a clear silicone which had to be cut very carefully to extract the sensor wire.
MY experience with Dyson is that their warranty claims process is exceptional. My corded vacuum cleaner came with a 5 year warranty. After 6 years the hose split and they replaced it free of charge, was very happy. Great video btw!
Amazing video. Thanks for saving us £££ and our Dyson. Our V10 lasted over 4 years before trigger failed. We bought spare trigger button for under £10 from Amazon (came with all tools) so really saved us a lot of money. Many thanks👍👍👍
Thanks for making this video, worked a treat. I used a cotton needle. Cut sharp end and eye off then cut it in half and gorilla glued it as you did. Only difference was that the plastic that the trigger retaining screws into had crumbled to bits so had to leave that screw out. Battery seems to still hold that section up anyhow
Thank you for this video, the instructions are so clear that even someone totally non technical like me managed to take it apart and put it back together again. My trigger was completely broken but fixed it and reinforced with cut up safety pin wire. Trigger works perfectly now, but the whole thing only pulses despite cleaning so unfortunately its going in the bin anyway!
@@aaanton11 Thank you for replying, that may well be what the problem is as I damaged the little wire connection when I took it apart, though it does still snap into place. I'll give it another go at some point to see if I can do anything with the wire connection.
This was absolutely the best “how to fix it” tutorial I’ve ever watched. I followed your step-by-step on how to fix the trigger on a Dyson V10 and it worked to perfection! I had the V10 up and running in hours! I saved a bunch of “quid” in the process. Thanks again!
Thank you so much. Really easy to follow. I had to get my husband to help, only in selecting the correct tools. Other than that I managed to complete the repair myself. I used a new switch off of Amazon. 😊
This was a great video. Such good detail at every step. I've just completed fixing my broken dyson v10 switch all thanks to you. Look forward to learning more from you in the future.
Thanks for this. Exact same fracture happened on my v11. Thankfully still under warranty. Having that much leverage continually stressing such a thin piece of plastic is a design flaw that they need to address. Won't be surprised if the new one fails in a year too.
Same issue and your video was perfect in fixing it... FYI .. Also just passed 2 years and few months (Dyson... change you triggers!!) but fixing it is was easy..thanks a million
Excellent video and instructions. Fixed mine, I hope it will last. The trigger sells on Amazon for about $10 and it is reinforced (upgraded)from the original one. Thanks again.
super video, I repair vacuums and would of eventually figured it out but you saved me so much time. I actually bought a replacement 3d printer made replacement instead of repairing, but highly enjoyable tutorial nevertheless
This guide was most excellent. Thank you for making it. It really saved me! Was told by Dyson £79 for the replacement module. Part itself was £9 off Amazon. Like many comments here, it’s poor design by a “premium” company. They could have made this part much stronger but they didn’t. Then their repair approach is to replace the main unit. They should do better considering the initial cost of the unit.
they should give you a free trigger re-designed and built stronger for DIyers like us. I bought a refurb with 1 year warranty only (refurb from dyson outlet). So it's 1 year out of warranty now. Had we bought brand new it would have had 2 years warranty. Looks like I'm doing a DIY.
Excellent video, truly excellent , you fixed my Dyson, it was broken exactly where you said , we rang Dyson and in fairness they gave us a free battery, even though it was a year out of warranty as they said it was that, , thanks again , subscribed
Much appreciated followed you step by step, used bits of a paper clip to reinforce, worked a treat, saved money and I'm a hero! (sorry I took the creds)
Thank you, the tear down was really helpfull, and you repaired the trigger! Thats really smart. I just finished the same procedure and as an additional safety measure I added baking powder/bikarbonate to the superglued reinforcing pins. That makes the repair even stronger.
Brilliant video, saved me a fortune, only thing I did different was to fit a new trigger. Only £8.99 from Amazon. It’s a shame Dyson don’t recognise that this part is not up to scratch and requires something a bit more robust. The outer casing on mine is also cracking all over the place, more glue than plastic now😆Keep up the good work👍
Great video. Very easy. For those two tricky small screws where the screwdriver doesn’t fix I used a small ratchet with the bit in a socket. Worked well.
Thank you for this video, it saved us £399. I really enjoyed following your instructions and we now have our out of warranty Dyson working again. Few brownie points earned too! I'll have a beer once i've hoovered up :). Thanks again.
@@aaanton11 btw is there a reason that, that spring connects to a black wire thats coming off the black wire terminal. it can't be grounding anything can it, as it only makes contact with trigger and plastic it rests on.
Very helpful! Great job! The local vacuum repair guy wanted $300--and suggested (i.e. guessed) that the circuit board was bad! Ha, whata crock? So, this V11 was on the trash heap and I decided to attempt a fix. I ordered the "strengthened" part from Amazon ($12). That was another crock, as when it arrived it looked exactly like the OEM part. (I returned it.) So, forget Amazon parts--just do a super-glue fix as described in this video. It's a fun job. Take your time, as it is a bit of major surgery! But--in my case, the patient survived and is working well!
Thanks for a helpful video. With your help I was able to replace the trigger in an hour or so. Beats me why Dyson persist with a part that breaks so easily.
I just bought a v11 with this issue for £50 and fixed it with a switch from Amazon 😂 I also have 2 v10 but they haven’t had the switches break yet. Love these hoovers
Thanks for the video made it so much easier to fix, didn't repair the switch got a replacement upgraded switch of the well known auction site for under a tenner
Awesome step-by-step tutorial for how to fix the broken button. I never would have been able to do this without this video but thanks to you I fixed it for less than $30 in screwdrivers and tools.
Brilliant video, every step was well documented, thank you very much! Just one small issue, the inner screw holding the trigger group thing is sometimes stuck to it by design and will not come out. So if anyone has that, it's fine, long nose pliers yank it out. Just gotta make darn sure that the screw is actually already loose.
I have yet to try and my Dyson v10 died on me today due to trigger issue. I hope it works when I follow your tutorial. Nevertheless amazing step by step guide. Forever grateful to you.
Thank you for sharing it was very useful to me. Note that on some devices (mine) the green component plate under the white cover is completely embedded in a layer of insulating rubber which requires cutting out the areas to be dismantled and disconnected.
Thank you for the video, I have dyson v11 animal (2, 5 years old) and it worked! It was easy and you to not need special equipment. I just had to buy torx t9, everything else what is needed are in every household. Thank you again!
Thanks for the video, very helpful! In my Dyson v10 I cannot pull out the connector block to replace the red button. There appears to be a latch that does not allow it to slide in the guides. Can you help me please? Thanks!
Hi @aaanton11 , any idea where I can get the spring that's pushing the trigger back out after you push it? The one that's clearly visible at 16:17. I would greatly appreciate you helping me find it.
Is there any part of this procedure that could make the obstruction light flash (and vacuum pulse) as if there’s an obstruction? I did clean off the dust from the circuit board but towards the trash and with duster. Everything happened as planned. I washed and dried the filter before use, 36 hours.
Thank you. An excellent video that meant the fix just i just completed was easy and certainly saved me money. My switch had failed with that very same crack after 3 years and 3 months so outside the 2 year UK warranty. A couple of observations: the torx screw size on mine seemed a better fit with the T8 driver rather than the T9 you refer to. I could get the T9 to work but it slipped out frequently. On the other hand the T8 slotted further into each screw and was perfect for me. On reassembly I found it easier to partially screw in the small screw that holds the trigger switch mechanism in place before inserting the switch (your video at 23 mins). This avoided having to try and find the hole to screw into as it was already in the correct place (within the trigger switch). Once again thanks
Great step-by-step tutorial video! Got a new trigger and replaced it however the mode switch at the top no longer works. It is running max power now all the time. Any suggestions?
Great video, very easy to follow for a basic technical person like me. I particularly like the tips about reinforcing the trigger with wire. In the end I had to get a new trigger, I still reinforced it as per this video anyway as I don't want to have to replace it again for a long time. Thanks again Anton for your great advice, I saved heaps of money and importantly didn't have to turn our Dyson into landfill. 😃😃👍👍
Hi there While waiting for a new trigger my vac was cleaned and it looks like the little white clip on the single wire (wire between the red and black with metal terminals on end) has fallen off and I now have two bare wires. Do you know if I can replace this or what it would be called so I can hunt? Many thanks for any help!!
Thanks!

I just finished the same procedure and as an additional safety measure I added baking powder/bikarbonate to the superglued reinforcing pins. That makes the repair even stronger.
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Great video and was just what I needed to finish the job. Loved the switch reinforcement idea with the wire pieces. Wife is happy again!
Glad it helped, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
had the same issue came across this and 30 minutes later resumed my home cleaning!
thanks a lot!
Glad it helped! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Brilliant video, saved me a fortune, only thing I did different was to fit a new trigger. Only £8.99 from Amazon. It’s a shame Dyson don’t recognise that this part is not up to scratch and requires something a bit more robust. The outer casing on mine is also cracking all over the place, more glue than plastic now😆Keep up the good work👍
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Brilliant video. It makes it simple to repair. This man is a legend.
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Extremely helpful video! Thank you for the step-by-step instructions. I bought the trigger online and replaced altogether. Works perfectly.
Glad it helped Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thank you for this video! I felt so pround of myself after doing it, and saved quite a lot on service! Thanks again.
Glad it helped! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
thanks! that was a great tutorial. one of the best DIY videos on youtube!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Great video. Very easy. For those two tricky small screws where the screwdriver doesn’t fix I used a small ratchet with the bit in a socket. Worked well.
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thank you for this video, it saved us £399. I really enjoyed following your instructions and we now have our out of warranty Dyson working again. Few brownie points earned too! I'll have a beer once i've hoovered up :). Thanks again.
well done! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I stretched out the spring when removing the trigger. How would I go about fixing/replacing that
Assorted springs on amazon amzn.to/3QvpKlf Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Well Done!! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks for a helpful video. With your help I was able to replace the trigger in an hour or so. Beats me why Dyson persist with a part that breaks so easily.
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I just bought a v11 with this issue for £50 and fixed it with a switch from Amazon 😂 I also have 2 v10 but they haven’t had the switches break yet. Love these hoovers
Good Job, Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Cheers for this. Worked a treat. Successfully installed a trigger I found online, with a stronger design than original. Much appreciated, good sir.
Glad it helped, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hello please can you send me the link for the stronger trigger?
Many thanks
Thanks for the video made it so much easier to fix, didn't repair the switch got a replacement upgraded switch of the well known auction site for under a tenner

Great video, fixed the broken trigger on my V11, all for the price of the replacement triggger. saved a fortune!!
Well done Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks bud, followed ur trigger fix guide, just waiting on glue to dry. Used metal from a paper clip for reinforcement
Perfect, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Awesome step-by-step tutorial for how to fix the broken button. I never would have been able to do this without this video but thanks to you I fixed it for less than $30 in screwdrivers and tools.
Glad it helped! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
A well made video, very clear and helpful. I'm afraid my dyson has the same fate and I will try to fix it as per your instructions. Thanks!
You can do it, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thank you for the detailed walkthrough! Gave me the confidence and knowledge to fix my V11. My wallet appreciates your hard work as well!😊
Glad I could help! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I have yet to try and my Dyson v10 died on me today due to trigger issue. I hope it works when I follow your tutorial. Nevertheless amazing step by step guide. Forever grateful to you.
you will be fine Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thank you Anton. Excellent instructions and easy to follow. I repaired the cracked trigger with wire like you did and it worked a treat. Many thanks!
Glad it helped Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thank you so much Ant for the full step by step video to guide me through the complete process. I fixed the exact issue like yours. :)
Well done! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thank you for sharing it was very useful to me. Note that on some devices (mine) the green component plate under the white cover is completely embedded in a layer of insulating rubber which requires cutting out the areas to be dismantled and disconnected.
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thank you for the video, I have dyson v11 animal (2, 5 years old) and it worked! It was easy and you to not need special equipment. I just had to buy torx t9, everything else what is needed are in every household. Thank you again!
Glad it helped! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks for the video, very helpful! In my Dyson v10 I cannot pull out the connector block to replace the red button. There appears to be a latch that does not allow it to slide
in the guides. Can you help me please? Thanks!
I tried to put everything in the video Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks to you and this video you made, i was able to successfully repair my Dyson v10!
Glad I could help! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi @aaanton11 , any idea where I can get the spring that's pushing the trigger back out after you push it? The one that's clearly visible at 16:17. I would greatly appreciate you helping me find it.
Sorry Not sure Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 on second thought I do think it's the trigger. I don't have the right tools to change it yet, but I will have a look when I get them.
@@brtvndkmp did you find the spring? mine is damaged
thank you so much for making this great video, it helped me fix my V10 and saved me alot of cash
Glad it helped Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Same failures on trigger and cyclone casing stopper. Thanks for the video it was very helpful in guiding through the repair. 👍
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Is there any part of this procedure that could make the obstruction light flash (and vacuum pulse) as if there’s an obstruction? I did clean off the dust from the circuit board but towards the trash and with duster. Everything happened as planned. I washed and dried the filter before use, 36 hours.
Not had that one, sounds like a filter issue, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi. A question. The first two torx screws are size 8. The other two torx are the same size? Thank you for your video and your answer (I hope!!!)
all the same. Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks Tony for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Great step-by-step tutorial video! Got a new trigger and replaced it however the mode switch at the top no longer works. It is running max power now all the time. Any suggestions?
It wont be located correctly, pop the body off again and line the switch up, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 I will give it a go tomorrow. Don't want to accept defeat :)
Please could you help!
How do you fit the black and red sensor wire to the motor circuit board if the little white plastic cover comes off?
Super glue it back in place, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks for the reply. Please could you explain how to place the wires to connect? Does it matter which side they touch?
Great video, very easy to follow for a basic technical person like me. I particularly like the tips about reinforcing the trigger with wire. In the end I had to get a new trigger, I still reinforced it as per this video anyway as I don't want to have to replace it again for a long time. Thanks again Anton for your great advice, I saved heaps of money and importantly didn't have to turn our Dyson into landfill. 😃😃👍👍

Hi there
While waiting for a new trigger my vac was cleaned and it looks like the little white clip on the single wire (wire between the red and black with metal terminals on end) has fallen off and I now have two bare wires. Do you know if I can replace this or what it would be called so I can hunt? Many thanks for any help!!
You might be better of soldering the wires directly to the pcb, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I did wonder if that would be the case. Thanks for the reply! Such a helpful video
Great video mate, helped me save another appliance from landfill! Keep up the great work 👍
