Richard, I did exactly what you said on the video. Everything went smoothly, but when I popped the battery in and squeezed the trigger, I heard a pop. Looks like I fried the board. I checked and I don't think I crossed the wires--I had the red on the left and the black on the right. What gives? Is it toast or is the board replaceable? Thanks.
I am a 73 year old woman who successfully fixed the trigger on my vacuum thanks to your video! Those who are attempting to accomplish this task make sure you have a thin torx T8 screwdriver before starting. Look for one like Richard uses in the video. The first one I bought had a sleeve too large to fit in one of the areas so I had to buy another one. I can't thank you enough for the excellent video!!
Thanks for sharing!
I am struggling to find a t8, finally did and it’s a bit too large still and the next smallest is too small
What screwdrivers are these?
Same thing happened to me. I now have a collection of three different T8 torques
@@mrrestrepo6812 T8 screwdrivers are specialized tools that are used mainly for electrical / computer work. The tip of the screwdriver looks like a multi pointed star. Look on ebay there are plenty there at cheap prices. Buy a kit with varying sizes as you never know when you might need them again. Go for the longer 100 ml length ones or longer (you may find that an extender bar may be useful) so you can get to the screw down the handle
Richard you are the best! I had a broken trigger on my Dyson V 11 that was just out of warranty. The only Dyson Center in downstate New York had a three month lag time just to see the machine and never answered my phone calls. The two vacuum cleaner repair centers in my neighborhood said they couldn’t touch the Dyson out of warranty. Outrageous for Dyson to leave you no real options. To the point, I am a 71 year old woman who has never ever ever fixed anything and thanks to your video and the instructions on tools etc. I fix that Dyson trigger! It did take me 3 1/2 hours instead of 17 minutes….but I so appreciate you doing this work. Thank you!
wow! Thanks for sharing your story! I am so glad this was helpful for you!
As a former Dyson warranty center, I can attest that they do not support small businesses. I was treated as a door mat and so I stopped working with them. I will fix and service them for my customers, but I won't sell them or do their warranty repairs ever again.
This was awesome - thank you. $8 replacement trigger on Amazon and 45 mins of my time to repair a V10 animal. BTW if anyone is watching this and when you pull the trigger after re-assempling and the battery just flashes once and it won't start, check that the small white lead is properly connected. Its easy taking it off, but not as obvious how to get it properly re-seated.
This problem just affected my V11. This video gives me confidence to know that this is a "common" issue and great instruction on the fix. Thanks!
I work at a vacuum repair store myself, we don't get these V11 models in very often so admittedly I wasn't totally confident in replacing my customers trigger. This video was awesome, thank you!
cool man! glad it was helpful! where is your shop?
@richardsvacuumcenter sorry, didn't see this reply until now. We have 8 locations across the Carolinas, I'm at our location outside of Charlotte
Perfect video!!!! I just successfully fixed my dyson v11!!! I am a 40 year old mom of 4 This video is thorough and efficient. Thank you!!!
Richard...what an amazing instructional video...from start to finish it was absolutely spot on!!! My wife's V11 is working like new again. There are many folks with knowledge...and many folks who can teach, but it is truly a BLESSING to have knowledge AND the ability to pass it on in such a simple way. YOU, my friend, have that blessing. You made what could be a very complicated, hair pulling experience...an enjoyable, stress free maintenance task. Thank you so very much!!! Alvin P
Wow thank you for taking the time to comment. I appreciate the kind words!
My trigger broke on my Dyson, and this was hands down the best instructional video I found! Followed step by step with minimal seating at my vacuum, and now it's fixed! Certainly couldn't be without my cordless vacuum with a crazy toddler in the house. Thanks for the help!!
Thank you for the no-nonsense, straight to the point repair tips. Awesome!
Watched a number of other youtubers videos. This is THE BEST comparing to others. So much details to follow. if you are not good at DIY stuff. This is the one for you.
Thank you!
Thanks for the video. I couldn't have done the job without a "how to" video. Amazon sells small kits that include the trigger(s), T8 screwdriver, tweezers, etc.
Great video!! This was tremendous help in getting our Dyson back up and running. Thank you for being as detailed as you were as you didn’t miss a single step of the whole process from start to finish. A million thank you’s again!!
Using this video I was able to fix my cracked trigger problem no worries. Great clear explanations and easy to follow. Appreciate that you took the time to make it. Awesome job!
This is excellent. For those of you not sure about trying this: it's really straightforward. Ensure you have 1x philipps screwdriver and a tx8 screwdriver. Make sure they are thin at the tip or it won't fit down the holes! Saved me hundreds on a repair and replacement. Thanks!
Thank you for this video! We ordered the trigger from Amazon. I played the video for my husband as he disassemble and reassembled. Lots of rewinding and replaying certain parts. He didn't have that special screwdriver or extender, but being Mr. Handyman that he is, he just made it work with what he had! Works like a charm now! Thank you!
The most helpful video for this vacuum switch repair! I appreciate the detail and tips (e.g, using vasoline on gasket parts). You're right, patience needed! Shame on Dyson for using such a weak/fragile part deep inside the motor assembly on such an expensive vacuum.
Thanks so much for your detailed instructions! Repaired and works like new👍🏻
You're most welcome! Glad it helped you!
Excellent video, loving the direct style, and great way to 'fast forward' some parts to save time-far better than cutaway & resuming as we actually SEE the fast-forwarded parts. Thank you very much!
you're welcome! thanks for the compliment
Thank you so much Richard ! The video and instructions are fantastic! I wouldn’t be able to replace my broken trigger without this video! My dyson V11 is now working like new! Greatly appreciated for sharing with us !
I think UA-cam has been a boon to do-it-yourselfers. It's saved me thousands of dollars in repair costs over the years, from replacing the capacitor in my AC unit to changing the broken trigger switch in my Dyson vacuum. That said, there are a lot of so-called experts on UA-cam who waste your time because I suppose they like to hear themselves talk. Well , Richar's Vacuum Center, your delivery is perfect. One, you know what you're talking about, two, you didn't waste time with a 10 minute intro and finally the content was perfect, nothing omitted and no extraneous BS. If you ever get bored with vacuums, you can put together some UA-cam workshops for those verbose UA-cam people who waste 60 minutes of your life when 10 would have been just right. Great job dude! By the way, I never ever comment on UA-cam videos. Yours was worth it.
Thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to write it. Comments such as these make my day!
Thank you so much for this Richard. I was about to throw my defunct Dyson V11 out. It had been cutting out sporadically for ages and finally gave up the ghost. I had suspected it was a trigger problem but couldn't face getting it to a repair shop. I decided to take a look online to see if I could fix it myself. Encouraged by Gayle Insler's comment here recently, I went for it, bought a T8 screwdriver and got stuck in. Husband only interfered a little bit, lol! I'm coming up to 68 and never repaired anything either, so feel absolutely chuffed to bits that I now have a working machine. Great stuff! P.S. It took me several hours too, over a a couple of days, but so worth it. Thank you again!
wow! Good for you! Happy to know you were helped out and that you got it working again!
I watched a half dozen videos and decided to follow your well-paced, step-by-step instructions. I had no issues and you're right, patience is a key. Thanks!
I bought 2 triggers online and plan on trying to replace the trigger this week. Thanks for the tutorial. It looks fairly straightforward.
Thank you so much for the easy step guide. We need more useful and straightforward videos like this ❤
On my particular V11, I removed the white plastic cover to find that the circuit board had a thick coating of clear silicone on it. I was able to carefully chip away at the silicone to expose the terminals/wires and complete the repair, but it's something to keep in mind. You have to be careful when removing the silicone to not damage the wires, and make sure that the metal terminals and connector are left spotless before re-assembly to get good electrical contact, but it was manageable.
Either way, great video! Thank you!
thanks for this comment! I haven't seen one that has the silicone yet so I appreciate you throwing this in the conversation!
yeah, mine had also silicone covered allover the circuitboard.
I had the silicone on the circuit board as well and can't seem to unscrew the two screws😔. Is there a tip you could share for this?
@@1991Mahad yeah, remove it mm by mm carefully (I used a stanley knife, a scxrewdriver, and my fingers... just treat it like a woman: softly hahaha; good luck! I succeeded but I admit that I was scared all the way!
And BTW, this silicone is less problematic than getting those wires out and back in! Good luck.
@@axelhoebeke 😂😂 I'll keep trying. Stripped the screws slightly but let's see. Thanks!
Thanks for an excellent video tutorial. Managed to take my v11 apart and whilst I wait for Amazon to deliver my new modified trigger I thought I would thank you for the clear instructions you provide. Hope it goes back as easily as it came apart. 🙏🤞
Thank you for taking the time to show us how to replace the trigger. Done and dusted working like new again.
Perfect video for this repair! Thank you, Richard, for posting this simple fix! I had a sneaking suspicion something was going on with that trigger when it had less spring and it would intermittently activate the vacuum. Thanks for sharing the knowledge and helping us to keep a few bucks in our pocket, for when we need those repairs that are more than just a simple fix! Best to you and yours!
Excellent video and step by step instruction. I am generally terrible at handiwork/fixing things, but I was able to follow along and do this on the first shot. Literally took only about 20 minutes and vacuum now works like new again. Thank you so much for the help.
I can’t thank you enough for this video!!! Went step by step with your instructions and it worked flawlessly. Just saved us $600 to replace it. Very appreciated
Just fixed my V11's trigger watching this video and saved a couple hundred dollars probably. Thank you so much for posting this video! Great explainer video.
Excellent demonstration and to the point! I've just fixed my dyson following the steps shown and feel so proud! Thanks so much.
There are other videos out there on this topic, but this is the one to go to. I just received the replacement trigger and repaired quickly because of this excellent video! Thank you!
Super helpful! Thank you so much for taking time to show us how to do this.
Thank you the time and effort to share this video. Fixed my DC11 in 35 minutes thanks to you!
I so appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I expected more of Dyson when I realized how flimsy that plastic piece was. These vacuums are high dollar. Thanks for saving me the money.
Super easy to follow along! Was exactly what I needed to replace my broken trigger.
Very clear step by step instructions with no BS. leading to a successful repair. Thank you.
My man. I wouldn't have been able to fix my V11 without this great video.
Thank you for this excellent video. I have just replaced the trigger on our Dyson and could not have possibly done this job without your detailed descriptions.
Excellent video with detailed step by step instructions. Process worked for me with no hiccups. Dyson seems good as new and a bit cleaner on the inside. Thank you.
Thank you! What a nightmare to get to that trigger. Never would have come close without this. Took me a while but got it replaced. Great tutorial.
Words cannot describe how deeply satisfying it is to complete that job. Thank you for this wonderful video.
Your directions were AMAZING! I know I could not have done this without you!! Thank you:)
Excellent instructional video- thank you very much! Had your video playing on my i-pad next to me throughout the entire process and was able to successfully replace the trigger and fix the issue. Really appreciate you!
Thanks very much. Your video was SO much easier to follow than the one provided with the spark trigger. Appreciate the time you’ve spent creating this for us. Warmly Marc
Thank you so much for these amazing disassembly and reassembly instructions! This saved me so much $ as I never knew it was such a simple fix, and thought I had to replace my whole unit!
Absolutely fantastic video. I was stuck halfway through and this video walked me through that part and gave great tips to make taking apart easier. Love it! A simple $13 fix. I just needed a Torx screwdriver set, but overall a much cheaper solution than $500 for a new vacuum. I hope it will live another 5 years!
Very professional! I love that you covered (& showed) every step of the process! You made it completely understandable for anyone. I watched a different video before this one & cut it off half way through to see if there was a better & more informative one & I found yours. I knew right away I wouldn't find a better one than this! Thanks ALOT man!
thank you!
Thank you so much for the video. Our V11’s trigger was replaced and is working perfectly again. We had it for 4 years, after the replacement of the new trigger the machine definitely will last longer 🎉.
Richard your step by step instructions were great. We've fixed our V11 the trigger was cracked just like you showed us. Thanks again, highly recommended this video for if you want to fix it yourself.
Great tutorial. Followed it step by step and now have our SV14 up and running again. 😊 many thanks
Watched video, ordered two new switches (thought it worth having a spare) from Amazon. Switches came next day, and I worked through the video. Excellent and clear instructions. Brilliant video. V11 Ultimate (4 years old) working perfectly gain. Thanks for a great video!
Excellent video! Took my time and followed your procedure and I now have it working again. Thank you!!
Exceptional step by step and well-paced instructional video. You are a pro. Thank you for providing this. Worked perfectly for replacing our Dyson trigger along with saving a bunch of unessary expenditures.
Brilliant, thanks so much for taking the time to show us how to do this. 👍
Fixed my Dyson V10 using these instructions, Thanks!
Excellent video with all the details you need, took about 30 minutes. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your video! Because of you, I was able to fix my Dyson, since it wasn't covered by the warranty anymore! Thanks again!
Thank you so much! Nice to have a guide like you on this adventure. Fixed it :) The most thrilling part was to see if my T8 Torx Allen key was long enough to fit in that last handle screw. Thankfully it just was.
Great instruction! Just finished replacing the trigger on our Dyson & everything is working fine. Thanks!!
Followed this guide as i had exactly the same problem. My dyson now works perfectly.
Thanks!!
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. had a great time watching Christmas Vacation and repairing my vac-works like new. Bring on the holiday mess!
Same basic steps as in numerous other clips, but more informative and covers small key steps in more detail. I wish I watchd this video first. Excellent. Thanks
Thx. Richard. This was REALLY useful. Repaired our V11 using your very clear video/instructions ...
Excellent video! I Bought the heavy duty trigger and Torx T8 on Amazon then followed each step and fixed it in less than an hour. Thank you!
Thank you for the tutorial. I wouldn't have tried it without your help. Had to get a new set of tiny "T" tool but still saved a few bucks. Thanks again
This was a great help. Thank you so much for posting this video, and taking the time to go step by step. One the best breakdowns online.
Fixed V11 trigger. Thank you very much for this video.
Richard, thank you so much for your video on this. It was easy to follow and I really appreciate it! My Dyson is now working well again!
Thanks, followed your clear instructions exactly and have a fully working unit! Cheers!
Thank you so much for making this available. We successfully repaired our vacuum trigger. Your explanations were clear and helpful as you guided us step by step through the process. We had to buy a magnetic extension pieces from Amazon, 100mm in length in a Star shaped Torx . We found size 7 fitted best, in order to undo and redo the very last screw at the bottom of handle. Many thanks once again.
Thank you so much for posting this. I just followed your instructions to replace the trigger on my unit and it's working like a charm! Way to go. I also had to buy a torx kit to take out some of the screws, and when it came to the last screw the extender with the kit was too wide to reach it! Fortunately, hardware store #3 had a long T-8 torx driver and I was able to complete the job.
Dank je wel, zonder jou hulp was het niet gelukt! Goede en duidelijk uitleg. Het vergt wel wat handigheid en geduld. Vooral ook het terugplaatsen met de uitleg, de volgorde was erg nuttig.
This was so helpful, I managed to fix my dyson in 1.5 hours for almost nothing, thank you!
Thank you soo much. Dyson wanted to charge me so much to replace the whole unit when it was just the trigger that needed replacing. Your video was really easy to follow, I've never been so happy to get back to cleaning again ;)
V11 repaired. Thank you for the detailed instructions!
Such a wonderful video. I used it and it worked perfectly for me. I appreciate you going through all the steps. It saved us $400+ for a new vacuum!! Thank you again!!!
Thank you for a great video! There is certainly lots of fiddling required, but the video does a great job describing how to get through all the difficult stuff.
Thank you, Richard! Your precise and educational explanation of this repair is excellent. My wife says she never gets anything new because I always fix the old stuff, and she is correct. I guess growing up and taking things apart has paid off.
Keep up the good videos.
Lowell
Great instructional video. I followed it in real time, just pausing at each section. Fantastic.
Excellent video, step by step instructions were great, my V11 trigger is now fixed, thank you 👍
Took me a couple of hours, very fiddly but thanks to Richard's very helpful video I managed to fix it. Thanks Richard. Dyson said they could only sell me a new body with motor £119. Let's hope they have improved the design of the trigger.
Excellent! It all went as you explained. Thanks Richard
Thank you so much Richard, this video has been so helpful in getting my v11 running again.
Thank you for the excellent instructions! You saved me so much time and trouble. All fixed and go as new. 😀👍
Thanks for the video. Fixed the trigger in my Dyson v10 and helped me save a good amount of 💰💰💰. Thanks 🙏🏻
One particular thing that stood out and was different from others was that you shared the reverse steps till the very end. Really good work.
Thanks for a great step by step video for a daunting task!
Fantastic video, very helpful and thorough! Managed to replace my trigger, never would have succeeded without this.
thank you!
Have just followed your instructions perfectly!!! Have saved over £100 to have this fixed professionally/ - thank you immensely 😊
Thank you very much Richard for all the effort putting together this very clear video. I followed the instructions and all worked well. Indeed it takes patience and having all the tools at hand. Thanks again and all the best 💪
Thank you for taking the time to make this video Richard. The clear instructions allowed me to fix my V11 Dyson which was out of warranty and now has a new lease of life!
thanks for taking the time to comment! glad it was helpful
Thank you for this information. This video and a thin Torx T8 that I bought at the same time I bought the new trigger was all I needed. Make sure to have all things in order and be in the good mindset before starting on it and you'll be done before you know it. I can honestly say that this is probably less stressful that emailing Dyson with a complaint about the trigger malfunction after your warranty time is over. Greetings from the Netherlands
Thank you SO MUCH! Worked perfectly. Excellent instructions. Followed step-by-step for the tear apart, and then did the same for putting back together. The only thing that you need to make sure you do is keep track of your screws and which ones go where. You can kind of see some places when he's putting them back in. And you should be able to remember. But if you're super detail-oriented you might want to mark them. I used a magnetic cup to keep track of all of them. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for this, it saved me a bunch of money having my v11 repaired or replaced.
Many many thanks. Very easy to follow and the only cost from my local tool shop was the TX8 screwdriver at €5. Followed every part of the video. Done in less than one hour.
Brilliant Video, without these instructions I would never have tackled the job
Excellent instructional video. I had no issue replacing my V12 trigger.
Thank you! Was easily able to change the switch over on my wife's Dyson thanks to this video.. I did have to buy the extended T8.. got it off amazon easily! Thanks for the video
