You really shouldn't take the nasty comments too seriously. Probably some old asshole like me who takes the music of their youth way too seriously. This is the soundtrack of our lives, and brings back strong emotions about the most intense, deeply felt emotions of our lives. It does my heart good to see you guys hear it for the first time.

The Dark Side of the Moon is arguably one of the best albums ever to be recorded, but I also think it is the best produced album ever and we can thank Alan Parsons for that.

Aside from Sistah's obviously awesome emotional reaction to the song, I love that you went through the lyrics the way you did and really got the context of it and what he was saying. You're right, it is incredibly poetic, but also incredibly dark and poignant. First time i heard this song was when I was about 10 years old and didn't understand a lick of it until I was much older. Shame, because it would have served as a stark warning. I can say with absolute surety at 53 years old today, that it's exactly what happens. When you're young time seems like a slow moving, never ending commodity. The older you get the faster it seems to move until one day, you're 53 watching a reaction video of a song you probably should have paid more attention to when you were 10. :)

And apparently science can explain it.
It has something to do with the amount of "circadian rhythms" you "have under your belt" as you get older

I'm 53 too. I thought it was cool rock music when I was a kid. It was 1980 I was 13. Now, it has become the story of my life. Now it makes me weep and hang my head at all of the time I wasted. I've been teaching for 20 years and look at my pupils now and think, you have no idea what you are facing. Put your phone down and live.
There are times I can't listen to Time. Mid-40's and when I'm getting the "time is moving way too fast" blues, I cry when I hear it. I love this song - but can't always take it!

Obviously, the version is really good, but much shorter, and does not bring out the immense, colossal virtuosity of David Gilmour. A must for the ears, but wait until you see for the eyes. . . Phew!

'The Great Gig In The Sky'. Clare Torry: Two and a half takes; no overdubs; no autotune. Perfection.
Gilmour wouldn't credit her until a court forced him to, decades later.
Best £30 PF ever spent until 2004/5 when they settled out of court.
@mickor That was the equivalent about £400 back then; not bad for a couple of hours work for a 25 year-old, as Clare Torry was when this was recorded.
And they ended up using the first take.
To the people commenting on mine. I get it. Clare Torry CLEARLY co-wrote TGGINTS. However, that was the zeitgeist for session singers back then. Thankfully, she is now handsomely recompensed for this work of non-lexical vocal genius and every member of PF acknowledges it. Her poor pay and lack of recognition was not down to the group; they were blown away by her performance. It was down to the record company.

Both are my favorite songs by them and i can never chose between them. I was so happy that they played both songs at the first concert i ever saw of them in 1988. "Wish you are here" is still my favorite album aswell.
In my opinion, the full version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond is their masterpiece.

@@DB-hd2gj - The pulse version video of Comfortably Numb is one of the most stunning things I've ever seen and heard, and I have watched it at least a dozen times. The most incredibly beautiful version of the song, and the solos are just mindblowing! And the light show is truly breathtaking! OMG, what I wouldn't give if I could have seen that show live.
The entire Pulse concert video (which is where the Live version of "Great Gig in the Sky" they reacted to comes from) is something I think every Pink Floyd fan, new or old, should find a way to add to your DVD collection. That way, you get the best available quality of both audio and video that can be had. And watch on nothing smaller than a 32" screen!
Syd's passing is the reason I even started listening to PF in the first place. I remember when they announced it on the news that he had died and I remember asking my mom about him and the band he was in called Pink Floyd, she said it was my dads favorite band. At the time I had a really bad relationship with my dad so I started listening to Pink Floyd and it's been a one way street from there. Today we have a great relationship and I owe it to the Floyd for bringing us closer together.
Here's to you Syd, working wonders on people even from beyond the grave.

I love this version because she literally sounds like she's in pain at one point. Like how can you do that and still sound so beautiful and powerful? As well as the ending, I found that the be the most impactful part for me, she just sounds so fragile and sad but at the same time accepting. It takes a true talent to be able to convey those emotions without using words :)
Well, Roger Waters is 75 now and just as energetic on stage as ever. He has been one day closer to death more than 15.000 times since he wrote those lines.
Yes and Roger is still really living his life passionately and is a very caring about the the state of the world and he fights for peace and justice and empathy. I have always thought Pink Floyd's albums are a form of Opera which take you through a whole range of your inner self with all of its existential twists and turns both beautiful and sad powerful and poignant. Dave Gilmore's guitar playing somehow expresses all of those words and feelings and lifts you to a higher plane of existence.

Waters left the group, then tried to sue them for money lost then is still crying about how his music is not linked with pink floyd anymore. He thought that he was bigger than the group I don't respect waters at all. He just wants money dosen't care about music anymore. I saw him in concert and I have seen pink floyd in the 90's. Waters was basically a little kid crying on stage after each song that he did by pink floyd saying I want to do it again. The only reason why is his name is worth thousands and pink floyd is millions.

Without a doubt the most beautiful moments on any album. Time into Breathe Reprise and then into The Great Gig in the Sky. After decades I cannot listen to one without the others. How lucky am I to have discovered this band when I was like 13 years old?
You cant listen to one without the other, but you cant listen to those two together without hearing the one before and after them as well. The album runs out of songs before you have even realised you've listened to it all the way through. That is why it is the best album of all time😆

This entire album is a long poem about life, death and transformation. It's meant to be listened to in it's entire form, one song directly blending into the next.
Honestly my biggest fear is the concept of time, mainly thanks to this masterful creation from Pink Floyd. Time doesn't stop, but we do and we procrastinate and like the lyrics paraphrase, before you know 10 years are gone and you've done nothing. I don't like to think of time too often, because it gets too depressing and too overwhelming. I think Time is the best Pink Floyd song, it's the most impactful to me at least.

There is a good reason this is one of the best albums of all time. It has had a profound impact on millions of people the last 40+ years.
Pink Floyd wrote my favorite lyric ever in Wish You Were Here. “We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year”. That lyric, for whatever reason has always stuck with me, make me tear up every time I hear it.
Derek Decker "running over the same old ground, what have we found? the same old fears. wish you were here..." this is,so beautifull.
The lyrics is the genius work of ROGER WATERS not only "time" but all the lyrics of the band until he left them for a solo career
My favorite Pink Floyd lyric is from the track "Dogs" on the "Animals" album. "Who was broken by trained personnel". Gives me a chill every time I hear it.

@@YaoMing441 The whole Animals album is an underated masterpiece. I probably like Wish You Were Here just a little better, but IMO Animals is right up there with it. And Dogs is definitely my favorite song on Animals.
I've listened to Pink Floyd all my life, because my parents did. I have 4 Pink Floyd vinyl albums, including Dark Side. But omg...you had me wiping tears and blowing my nose by the end of Time. I never felt the song like this reaction because I always heard it. I swear Time never made me emotional until tonight. This was beyond moving.
Clare Torry's vocal have never been equalled. This album STILL sells today in very respecable numbers. Arguably, the best album ever recorded.

PF is emotion and emotional reactions are unique for all persons. Never apologize for YOUR emotions just because someone else has something different.
Here is an old man's perspective. Hehe. First of all, music is like food. We like what we like & there is no right or wrong. Second, most people are "imprinted" by the original of any popular music... and our brains "want" the first version which is fixed in our brain. (That's also why most want bands to perform their songs EXACTLY as they were originally done.)
All that aside, I enjoy seeing your joy in "discovering" Pink Floyd. Keep the tears coming. :-)

I envy her so much! I wish I could listen to these songs for the first time again! And could've externalized my emotion like that.
Clare was all of 21 or 22 when she did this track, also she did it cold in 3 takes never having heard it before.
I think 23, maybe 24, and she improvised the whole vocal. She rather belatedly got the songwriting credit for the vocal composition. So she couldn't have heard it before, because she made it up on the spot - all she was given were the basic chord progressions.
She also halted the third take part way through, and although others claim to have mixed parts of each take, she has always insisted that what they ended up with all came from the first.

And it's said she got like 35 dollars for doing the "Great gig in the sky" vocals ( union scale). She sued years later and won co-writing credits.
It is great to watch and hear young generation reacting to one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever ever existed. To me, PF is always on one side and all the other greatest bands are on the other side, they are just very special in their creative music. I had privilege to see them in their 80’s tour in-door and out-door concerts in LA (The delicate sound of thunder), it was a dream come true. I wish they have continued together, we’ve could have more of that great magical innovative music. Nothing match up to their great era production with the winning formula of Water, Gilmour, Mason & Wright contribution.
I just watched your video and really enjoyed your reactions and commentary regarding Time and Great Gig in the Sky! I first got into this album and Pink Floyd in general as a freshman in high school in 1975. I totally appreciate your preference for the live track you referenced. But as a small point of clarity, the Clare Torry track is the original and everything else is a "version". When the track was recorded, she was a 25 year old session vocalist. She listened to the track minus vocals and was asked to improvise. Off of the top of her head, she performed 3 takes (individual performances) for this album and the final track was assembled from those 3 performances. The result of which is being discovered and discussed here on UA-cam 45 years later. I love it.

Now you know how I felt the first time I snuck into my sister's room as an 8 year old kid and put the headphones on and listen to this song and album for the first time. Remarkable reaction really gets to your soul deep down inside your soul and makes you think about life in general. This is why Pink Floyd is the greatest band of all times hands down

This is what I love about people like you doing reactions. You show absolute true, raw feelings and not ashamed to show them. Quick pointless thing to share with you, wheather you believe me or not is irrelevant, but my dad actually help set up the lasers for Pink Floyd back in the early 80s while on tour. A really proud moment for him. He has a few photos of them all together including my dad which is a real treasure.

@@HalfLifeSistah Thanks! Pink Floyd are life changing. Personally I think their final album (The Division Bell) doesn't get enough attention. About those two songs I mentioned, Sister awake is pertinent to your journey, and the lyrics will speak to you. And no aphrodisiac is just a really tremendous song. Neither are metal though. I hope you both at least check them out even if you don't post a reaction.
The Whitlams are from my home Country of Australia. They are named after former Prime Minister of Australia Goff Whitlam. The song No Aphrodisiac is a great song that I think Sistah would like. It was a very popular song in Australia. Most reaction channels only react to one Aussie band and that is AC/DC. There are many more good ones like Powderfinger, Silverchair, INXS, Crowded House, Cold Chisel, Midnight Oil, Grinspoon, You am I and Regurgitator. Just to name a few. I know they are all rock bands and you are mostly a metal reaction channel but it is the first time I have seen someone else request an Aussie song that was not AC/DC.

I think the live version did it for you only for the fact that is was your first experience with the song, if you heard the the studio version first I believe it would have had the same impact, now you know how the rest of us feel when we hear the the live version because the majority of us heard the studio version 1st

Just found you guys reaction to this. Firstly THANK YOU for taking the heed to put these two tracks together as they were meant to be, as a continuous flow of the same emotion that PF wanted to convey. I have to admit that I always thought Great Gig in the sky was referencing something alien, or other worldly, but then I realized what i was listening to by the two tracks together and then the rest of the album all came together despite the different styles ( the style of Money vs. Time/ TGGITS). Basically PF was trying to convey THEIR personal lives as musicians and making the most out of the time given to them. Being that they were band members. The Great Gig in the Sky was a "final performance" after death. Time being the description and warning to take hold of your life and go for it all the way before those "10 years have gotten behind you", then when Gig comes in: you either did or didn't make it in life. The first part ( build up ) was a vocalization of coming to terms with what you did do with your time ( wrestling your demons), when the music dies down, was the last breath, and then finding peace perhaps, maybe some " shoulda, woulda, coulda" ? I guess only PF really knows the absolute truth about what they were really saying, but "not saying" . The jump to Money and it's funky beat was a "bring back down to earth" move on the Albums line up. The MONEY and success that being successful musicians can attain. ( new car caviar, four star daydream, I think I'll buy me a football team ( soccer team).). Dark Side of the Moon, to me, was an introspective on themselves and what they were doing. I am quite sure, that they can honestly say, that they did not let 10 years get behind them.

Nothing beats Claire Torey on Great Gig......it was her first take, and unrehearsed. The live versions are good, but don't have the same raw emotion ( to me) of the struggle of iminent death, and final acceptance of it.
All right folks we need to kill this myth. It wasn't done in a single take, but a few perhaps 3 different takes, the first she did scat, because that was what she was used to doing. they told her no no no, think of death and dying and no scat, and she did another and they liked what she was doing. After a final take she told them I think you have enough and that was that, still impressive but let's keep the facts true. This is a long standing misconception. This is totally verifiable from Claire herself, look it up on youtube. I am running from memory so I don't even know if my description is wholly accurate but close enough, and for sure scat was her first attempt.

@@6lillium Yeah sorry man wasn't trying to be a douche about it but I see that as a serious statement often and I don't really mind people don't know the history, but I wish some of them wouldn't just misinform new listeners. I see what you're saying and it definitely happened over a fairly short time period once she got the right groove. I apologize if I came off douchey.
The "one take only" was on a piece with the Rolling Stones.
That said, she did two, Pink Floyd mixed bits from both takes (but mostly the second), and Claire was sure she did catastrophically and she'd never hear back from them.
The album went on to be the best selling ever.
Angel Gd Her third take yes, but it was one take; no overdubs, no cuts, just go and that was it. It was her first take knowing what the band wanted, and one whole cut.

I remember when I transitioned from pop to " heavy metal " music [ which is what anything that wasn't The Jackson 5 or Sonny And Cher, etc. was classified as ] back in the early 70's. I was 12 or 13. I would hear Yes and Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd and Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Jethro Tull and Santana as my older brother played the albums or listened to AOR radio stations. The rest of our family thought the music was weird. Even scary, ala Black Sabbath. Then one day - shazam/abracadabra! I heard it. My life literally changed. As I began working around 15, my routine was to buy a new album each pay day. Usually at a record store named Peaches. In New Orleans. They even sold peach crates to store and display your albums. I remember thinking as I listened to these astounding albums - the amazing music that was blowing my mind daily as I leaned back on my bed - " Do other people know about this? Are they aware of this experience? " Because I didn't see any of my other 4 siblings, besides my older brother, ever sit [ or lay down ], " put an album on " and listen to it in it's entirety. Y'all know what I am talking about. I would be at school or work, craving a serving of Fragile or The Dark Side Of The Moon or Aqualung or Tarkus just as I would some of my mom's delicious homemade spaghetti and meatballs. Getting excited just thinking about it. As I see the reaction of so many on UA-cam, this all comes back to me. I am happy to see the happiness on the faces of those who are experiencing good music for the first time in their lives. I am not dismissing other types of music. I love good music - period. Some of my favorite songs are from Michael Jackson, The Bee Gees, Poison, Phil Collins, The Commodores, etc. I know that what I have typed here is resonating with some of you. Music truly is a universal language. We are all born being able to understand it.
