@@PraxisPeabody I hate to tell you this JD at 45 I had a brain Aneurysm that ruptured, I got away with it thanks to great Drs and an 8hr surgery, now hitting 56, I thank my stars, God, karma, luck (pick what suits) that I did great things in my early 20s, but realise how bloody vulnerable we are. But also how much more I could have achieved, a sort of, yaaaay, awww moment.
The song starts with the clocks, starting your life. And ends with the tolling of the iron bells, and the softly spoken magic spell. Signifying the funeral bells the the prayer for the dead that awaits us all. Imo, this is one of the best songs ever.
The entire rest of the song is expertly constructed as well. The beginning seems to go on forever but the BPMs are still quite fast, signifying adolescence. Then the guitar jumps in and plays a long, angst filled, solo. Signifying the transition from your teenage years into the struggle of adulthood. Then all of the instruments transition into a laid back, final section where the BPMs also drop quite a bit. Signifying the final years of life. True masterpiece.
Listen to the intro again and you’ll notice that tick tock of seconds going by, constant, never changing. You’ll also hear the pulse of a heart beat that speeds up through the intro. Life speeds up and eventually ends while time just keeps on going.

That lyric has stuck with my my whole life. It really sunk in how short life is and how much we take for granted.. on a daily basis.

"Home, home again...", begins the third verse to the song "Breathe", the first two verses of which are earlier in the album Here "Breathe (Reprise)" as it is called is the segue to a song initially known as the Death Sequence later named, "The Great Gig In The Sky". The backing vocals in the latter half of "Time" foreshadow the vocals in Great Gig. Nick Mason the drummer and Roger Waters the writer/lyricist trained as architects. So it easy to see how intricate and well constructed the music is. Headphones bring a greater appreciation of their efforts. If I may suggest.

Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"... I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen. I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold.

Having said that, the entire album "The Dark Side of the Moon" is a Masterpiece / Work of Art. And don't just take the word of some old guy, it charted for well over 18 YEARS!
As a young clueless kid this song didn’t hit home as much as it does today. I just graduated high school when this album came out. Love to be able to go back in Time!
I remember the first time I heard this album back in the early 70's. I was in high school. I'm pretty sure everyone who was into music in my school listened to it by the end of the first month of its release. It was kind of a right of passage. There was nothing else like it. The music was mesmerizing and the lyrics were profound. David Gilmour, the guitarist, said in an interview that his regret about the album is that he could never have the experience of everyone else outside of the band and the production team of listening to the whole thing for the first time.

I don't know if y'all have watched "The Wizard Of Oz" or not, but some stoner figured out that, if you watch the movie with the sound down while listening to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" album (sync them up by hitting play on the music when the MGM lion roars the third time). All the music fits with the scenes of the music and the dancing and everything but there are a lot of other situations that line up as well. The whole movie with the Pink Floyd in the background is available on UA-cam under the name, "The Dark Side Of Oz". It's kinda trippy but may not hurt to toke up first. 🤣

I was looking out in front of me and saw the word Future coming at me very fast. As it flew by I turned to look and it said Past. I think I’ll put aside some time today so I can use it tomorrow. I have a bucket full of Time. I’m going to add some sugar and spice and make it a sweet time. What time will it be tomorrow… Future time, as opposed to my past time of being a little out of time. I wonder…What time is the next time?… time will tell. For the time being, I think I’ll take some time off from keeping time. If I had the time, I would buy some time, so I could use my time wisely. Now I think it is time for me to go to bed, and rest my head, just in time before I fall asleep and fall down and hit my head. Couple of things about listening to Pink Floyd. 1- You need headphones/earphones. Believe me, you will hear things you can NOT hear through speakers, unless you are literally BLASTING it!! Trust me, I have been listening to Pink Floyd since 1975. 2- You need to listen to certain albums in their entirety, first song to last without interruption, because these are concept albums, the whole album telling a story. These albums are Dark Side of the Moon 1973, Wish You Were Here 1975, Animals 1977 and The Wall 1979. In fact, you just now listened to 2 songs, Time and Breathe (Reprise) and did not even notice. This is how their albums go. And the song that follows what you just listened to, would probably have made you cry. Well, maybe.

There are no mistakes - only lessons. Life is filled with lessons. A lesson will be repeated until such time as it is learned - as evidenced by a change in your behaviour. When you have learned that lesson you will be presented with another lesson. The lessons will never stop coming. As long as you live there will be more to learn. If I could go back and change any of my mistakes (lessons) I would not do so. All of those learning experiences is what has made me who I am today, and it is what has given me my current outlook on life. Without all those lessons (mistakes) I would not see the world the way I do now, and I would not appreciate the most important aspects of my life.

I would go back to the past and do whatever possible to find a cure for my Dad's cancer to save his life, and if it's not possible to save his life I'd do everything in my power to be a better person. A person deserving of having the amazing Dad that I had and be someone that my Dad could be proud of, instead of worthless waste of space I am. He dedicated his life to providing me with all the love, knowledge and wisdom to be a good man and do great things but instead I threw it all away and failed in every aspect of life. All I want now is for my Dad to not have died disappointed in me, which he never said he was because he was a good man but I know he had to be because how could he not have been, what with me being who I've been.

I get what Steph is saying about the intro. For me, it conjures an image of two gunslingers facing each other, eying their opponent, waiting as the seconds tick down before the sun reaches high noon. Time really can get away from you. I was going to procrastinate, but I decided to put it off until tomorrow.

The Intro---the ominous was meant to represent the Enormity of Time. They used the light Chimes to lighten it up

I don't know if y'all have watched "The Wizard Of Oz" or not, but some stoner figured out that, if you watch the movie with the sound down while listening to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" album (sync them up by hitting play on the music when the MGM lion roars the third time). All the music fits with the scenes of the music and the dancing and everything but there are a lot of other situations that line up as well. The whole movie with the Pink Floyd in the background is available on UA-cam under the name, "The Dark Side Of Oz". It's kinda trippy but may not hurt to toke up first. 🤣

Wow, you really nailed the lyrics for a first listen. But then again, that's down to Pink Floyd making it crystal on shared human experiences; like Time and Money and Birth and Death.
I was looking out in front of me and saw the word Future coming at me very fast. As it flew by I turned to look and it said Past. I think I’ll put aside some time today so I can use it tomorrow. I have a bucket full of Time. I’m going to add some sugar and spice and make it a sweet time.
What time will it be tomorrow… Future time, as opposed to my past time of being a little out of time.
I wonder…What time is the next time?… time will tell.
For the time being, I think I’ll take some time off from keeping time.
If I had the time, I would buy some time, so I could use my time wisely.

If someone tells me that time started at a certain time, I'll ask... what was going on ten minutes before time began. If someone says time will end at a certain time, I'll say... Sorry, I'm going to be ten minutes late for the end of time. You can't hold time in your hand. . It is a pleasure to have shared this time with you. Maybe we can do it again some other time, but only if it is not a waste of your precious time. The clock is ticking. I must now go and gather some more time to spend with others. They say "Time Is Money", I'm a very wealthy man. I like to share my wealth. This time was FREE for the taking. Good Day to all who have taken the time to read this comment.

Couple of things about listening to Pink Floyd.
1- You need headphones/earphones. Believe me, you will hear things you can NOT hear through speakers, unless you are literally BLASTING it!! Trust me, I have been listening to Pink Floyd since 1975.
2- You need to listen to certain albums in their entirety, first song to last without interruption, because these are concept albums, the whole album telling a story. These albums are Dark Side of the Moon 1973, Wish You Were Here 1975, Animals 1977 and The Wall 1979. In fact, you just now listened to 2 songs, Time and Breathe (Reprise) and did not even notice. This is how their albums go. And the song that follows what you just listened to, would probably have made you cry. Well, maybe.

Hence the lyric, "no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun". Dark Side of the Moon is a concept album about life, and it is timeless!

I would go back to the past and do whatever possible to find a cure for my Dad's cancer to save his life, and if it's not possible to save his life I'd do everything in my power to be a better person. A person deserving of having the amazing Dad that I had and be someone that my Dad could be proud of, instead of worthless waste of space I am. He dedicated his life to providing me with all the love, knowledge and wisdom to be a good man and do great things but instead I threw it all away and failed in every aspect of life. All I want now is for my Dad to not have died disappointed in me, which he never said he was because he was a good man but I know he had to be because how could he not have been, what with me being who I've been.
I'm sorry for what you're going through. Although I don't know, I'd bet good money you're being too hard on yourself, my friend. Keep well!
