    Always thought it would be awesome if there was a college class/extracurricular class you could physically go to that could walk you through the new and old technology, chemistry, etc. Thankfully we atleast have UA-cam and channels like this when we need help. Although I'd definitely consider ReefDudes an advanced course, can say I don't understand alot of what your doing, but hopefully one day I will.

    I watched the structural engineer video and I was happy with my aquarium choice which was the same as yours, then I watched the cable management video and was like ok ill get that but not available in Australia... no worries ill build one myself then watched this video and now im getting scared with all the projects I need to get done. Can you explain what the new ATK pump is doing? I have been watching you videos and love them! I am finally getting a new 130.4 waterbox and I need to finally get around to ATO. I plan to pretty much have the same setup as you. The Apex ATK I am not sure what is is doing. I thought the Versa's are pulling from the reservoirs. Your old pump is pushing the RODI bin to the Salt Bin. Also I assume the Apex solenoid you have before the RO/DI is controlling the open/close on water feeding the RODI? Is that solenoid controlled with the FMM? Sorry about all these questions, but this takes a lot of understand each of the working parts. Thanks again!

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  3 роки тому

      Thanks James! so 1 PMUP is for the ATO to top off the tank. The second one is to fill the saltwater bin with RODI. If i want to speed things up i can fill Via the Pump and the RODI at the same time to fill it twice as quick! The versa is there for auto water change. There is one by the saltwater bin pushing saltwater up to the tank and there is one up by the tank sucking saltwater out and pushing down to the drain. both versa run at the same time for 2h a day. On the Mixing bins i have a high and low optical sensor in both bins. If the RODI one is low it will open the solenoid to the RODI unit so it refills the ATO bin. the optical sensor at the top turns off the rodi so it does not over fill. I also have float vales in both as backup! :) the FMM is just my input for the 4x optical sensors.

  • @donward2466
    @donward2466 4 роки тому +1

    Curious how you dealt with sealing the bin where you routed the cords. RO/DI lines are clear, just not sure of the best way to deal with the cords. Thanks

    Hello Devin, thanks for the video, i have an 8 ft. line from my RODI to the top of tank. Do i have to flush it before filling up the tank? Use to fill ones a week.

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  4 роки тому

      Freddy Buitenhuis you don’t have to .. but flushing it will make your filters last longer

  • @iPhoneGottaHaves
    @iPhoneGottaHaves 4 роки тому +1

    This has to be my favorite mixing station video! Great content! I replayed the section where you drilled the 3 holes in the back of the tanks, but didn’t get a clear answer as to what the holes were used for or how the tanks exchanged water.
    I assume the 2 pmups in RODI container, one pumps into the salt container and the other for the ato. So why do we have 2 float valves in the salt container and a 1/4” bulkhead fitting? Also, did you add a optical in the salt container as well? I will be doing a similar setup based on this video! Looking forward to the auto flushing rodi too!

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Two floats in salt is so I can fill it directly from rodi or from the ATO/rodi bin .. or both at the same time!! There is one optical in the bottom of the salt to let me know to refill it :). I’ll likely add a high level sensor to it at one point but I ran out of sensors!

    Hi Devin, do I understand this right for your ato for the rodi supply tank: the optical sensors are connected to the fmm module, and the fmm module tells the solenoid valve when to open and close based on the optical sensors? If so, do you need an Apex unit to set this up, or can it be done as a stand alone? Thank you!

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  4 роки тому

      You are correct. if you dont have an apex tunze and a few others make ATO controllers.. if you already have an apex then adding on the sensors is an easy way to do it.

  • @Emilly876
    @Emilly876 2 роки тому +2

    Hey Dev,
    I noticed you used a pump to transfer the water from the fresh bin to the salt bin. You can take that pump off if you wish and just add a float valve and whenever you need to fill the salt bin, just fill it with the RODI unit. I don't think there is any real reason to have to pump the water over there.

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  2 роки тому

      I have a valve to fill from rodi directly as well! The pump is if I want to fill it faster I can have water coming from both the rodi and the ato bin! Really speeds it up if you want to mix up saltwater quick :)

      The rodi already has a valve for each container. The pump is if I need water fast for what ever reason. Then I can use the rodi as well as pump for the ato. Double duty!
