I tend to avoid living in places that have hurricane seasons, tornado ally, cliffside mudslides, regular floods, annual forest fires, etc. Not a fan of areas with recurring natural disasters...Florida's a nice place to visit...occasionally...
I'm in tornado alley here in Kansas
Born and raised in Altamonte springs but born in Orlando left when I was 21. My dad and brother still live there. Daughter and grandkids live in Miami
Still another 2 months of hurricanes to come.
My grandfather told me a long time ago that Kansas will always be the safest place to live in the USA this was way before tornado alley shifted. He was a meteorologist during ww2 . We vacation in Florida but never during hurricane season.
Was born in Orlando florida raised in Altamonte Springs my dad and bother still there and daughter lives in Miami been living in Kansas since I was 28. And 69 now.

Makes me wonder why these medical supply manufacturers aren't also opening facilities in other states. So where are the others? Minnesota, Oregon, Michigan, Massachusetts , Ohio, Pennsylvania? Are we all chopped liver?

NAH, I'm not going to retire and live down there. Wish my daughter would leave that area too. Better off dealing with some winter snow and colder weather than this type of catastrophe after catastrophe!
That's why I didn't moved back. Left when I was 21 after getting married never went back moved to Kansas. I'm 69 now. I worry about my dad and brother they still live there . Daughter and grandkids live in Miami wish she would move back to Nebraska.

Why did people even go to live in Florida? (No offense to any Floridians) I mean, with all the hurricanes, how does one deal with the pain of their homes being flooded by more and more hurricanes? :(
homes are pretty well built, there hasnt been a hurricane to ruin my home town in 20 years.
I'm from southern Louisiana. My hometown gets over 8 feet of water every 3 or 4 years. It sucks and I'm not going back.

If anybody has spent any time in the Caribbean, places like Jamaica that has the storms passover them directly all the time, I wonder why homes in those regions in our country where these storms hit, aren’t built out of concrete and rebar like they are there. if anybody really cared about the loss of life and property, they would start doing things like this, Insurance would have way less to pay for, the loss of life would probably be less than it is. Makes no sense to me.
That would greatly increase the price of a home in the U.S. so much that people couldn't afford them. Wood built houses are cheaper although many still too expensive for people to buy especially in this inflated economy.
All the houses are made of concrete and rebar here. If it’s a 2 story the first is a block wall with poured cells.

Florida's barrier islands should never have been built on. But people saw beauty and figured they'll take the risk.

There are places where people shouldn’t live. Flood zones, hurricane zones, liquefaction zones, fire zones, and landslide zones. Move stop rebuilding 3-4-5 times. Get the hint.
