Great video guys. And thanks for selling me the car. I almost bought it about 2 years ago, but it didn't work out back then. I am planning a very nice driver restoration on it. I have an old car problem, but it's not a bad problem to have. Thanks again and take care, Anthony
Recent purchased a 69 Toro. Been in storage since 1985. I now have this classic beauty running. I think it's Flamingo Silver. Have installed a new water pump, battery, coil, aluminum radiator, master cylinder, redoing rear brake lines, new tires, new exhaust, back seat reupholstered, rear carpet. Black vinyl top is great. It's quite a project for me but will be worth every dime I spend.
I have never seen this body style before and from the other ones of the 60s and early 70s I like this one. There is something about that front end that looks very cool. I hope you have a follow up on this one in the future, and also the New Yorker.
There’s the exact same 1968 Olds Toronado, custom spec with the 455, green and vinyl landau roof 1 mile away from me. Cannot wait to see what you can do to bring this car up to running and driving again. I like seeing the family working together and enjoying the adventure.
My parents had a 80" Toranado, was the car i remember the most from my child hood. Was the height of luxury every option including the hood turn light indicators.
I had a 74 Toronado that was a great trip car all my friends loved road trips in that thing. 30 gallon something tank it actually had a pretty good range.
5:30 in so far. The crazy 30s car cord was front wheel drive and supercharged or turboed I think. Don't know much more about them than that. Jay lenno has one I think lol
The 36-37 Cord 812 was supercharged and the 810 was normally aspirated. That was the second generation of front wheel drive Cords. The first generation was the L-29 made from 29-32. No cords built from 33-35 if my memory is right.
Nice work. I'm pretty sure new points would be a lot less expensive than a new Snap-on leatherman. I had a ' 68 Toronado just like that one, back in the early '80's and I can tell you it was a very potent motor in it. You could smoke the tires forever! I wound up putting that engine into a '72 Toronado and drove it for many, many more trouble-free years!
From 1973 to 1976 GMC built a fiberglass motor home. They used that same drive train that's in your Toronto! All they changed was the front hubs to use one ton dully wheels! Same gearing, same wheelbearing and same brakes!
All you guys doing UA-cam car revivals should thank Derek from Vice Grip Garage for starting up the Will It Run and Drive home thing. UA-cam is flooded with it😅
Its a toranado of course its gonna drive home! These cars were the epitomy of GM engineering at the time, far ahead of their time in fact. Fantastic find.
On my 39 Pontiac that had been sitting since 56, ( at the 26 yrs) , i took each plug and dipped each one in jelly. Gas. Wiped off the excess. It started on the forth go round!!!
Enjoy your show love that your getting out there with family and taking advantage of these opportunities not sitting back and spewing negativity like society does these days. Keep having fun and making memories.
Gents! WTAF?! Drain all fluids for crying out loud… WAY MORE PRE-LUBRICATION and cleaning puhhleeeaazuh! I’ve also seen a quite a few fixes with head gasket sealer, but with recent HG failures on running -driving vehicles. I’ve seen it done with something sitting so long w/ many other systemic issues.
Step 1, pull plugs, fog cylinders, step 2 pull carb, rebuild it and install new base gasket, step 3 check fuel and drain it! Boroscope the fuel tank and look for rust, if so run a boat tank and new line to electric fuel pump , prime, new fuel filter in the carb and new clear inline filter as well. Step 4 Check clean, and regap or replace the points, check cap and rotor, wires etc . Step 5 new oil and filter sae 30wt to run it out for first fire then drop oil and filter after 5 - 10 min of idle time, and of course cooling system! Big engines need lots and lots of cooling! This is a high compression engine either a 425 or 455 it needs premium fuel to run and tune properly, it aint gonna run on 85 octane😂😂😂
While you're doing research on your w34 you better research the barrel speedometer because it was not a one-year-old deal that was available in a tornado from 66 through 70 the life of the tornado
The 68 Tornado is the first model year for this generation. The windshield wipers were concealed and parallel. The front brakes were converted to disc.
So back in 1975 i was 18 years old right out of high school. That was my very first car it was a 1967 Oldsmobile toronado front wheel drive mine had the folding lights and a power antenna gold exterior white seats. I remember I paid $600 bucks for it then I sold it and got an Oldsmobile 442 and you know about that car.
Love your videos! You sure don't seem to be afraid to tackle the tough ones. Good to see father and son(s) team working together. Best of luck on your next revival and many thanks for the entertainment. Cheers!
Walmart oil is made by Warren oil who also makes O'Reilly, rural king and a lot of other private name oils. I have been using Walmart and rural king oil in my diesels for years and have had no problems.
I drove a 69 for 14 years, from 1985-1999 so the inside and under the hood look very familiar! That speedo takes some getting used to. The original wheels have the funky valve stems with a nut on the other side. I'd forget it was there when I'd get tires and of course the shops hadn't seen that in forever so they'd try to pull the stem out and make it leak. I think I bought all of the leftover valve stems from the parts stores here because I stopped being able to get them!
Awesome guys!!! You made the right decision! That engine is a real gem if it's savable! Getting it home is more important that making the drive IMHO. I really do enjoy you guys and the cars you've been choosing to buy have been refreshingly great!! I LOVE THIS BABY! BUT I think you're gonna find that if you are going to keep on making these great videos (I really hope you do) you'll need to do a little more part buying before hand and making sure the fundamentals are able to be run to get them truckin. LOL. Like Trans fluid (I missed how much you put in so maybe I'm just a tool) and maybe a set of wires and fresh plugs a carb kit with a bit of extra vitamins and minerals for that 5 quart 455 V8 Big block. But I LOVE IT!! THANK YOU!! PLEASE KEEP US UPDATED ON THIS CAR I HOPE YOU GUYS TO MAKE A SWEET MACHINE IF POSSIBLE!
You can see what you want about those front wheel drives, but I've been out with my pickup stuck on the side while those front wheel drive cars. Just keep cruising right on through the snow and ice with your studied tires in front going around corners like they're supposed to not sliding you can't beat them in the snow
Your Spitfire video popped up on the right and glad it did! Nice bunch of down to earth guys, hope you become a big youtube channel! Bit unorthodox but I used bathroom sealant to fix the rad on my volvo 740 turbo.😅 It stopped the leak and held for several hundred miles.
u are workin on the BEST V8 offered in America the Oldsmobile 455 cid...1968 thru 1976...they are 300,000 mile motors...they run well and dont burn oil..
My mom had one of those in the 70s. She simply loved the thing, I don't remember what happen to it. Oh, an her's had front dic brake's I remember doing a brake job for her. Thanks for sharing an good luck with her.
Neat car, glad. You Guys pulled the pug and didn’t ruin the engine, those rims are from a much newer model, back in the day the only ones that would fit were factory because of the weird offset (for that time). I think your right probably a head gasket, probably gone before You Guys touched it, it would be neat to see this one hit the road, not a restoration but maybe a roadsteration? Thanks really enjoyed the videos.
The engine was starving for air when you was trying to start it, first thing I would do is take off the carb and intake, clean out the rats nest, nuts, whatever is clogging exhaust, intake and the water journals. I love the year and body style, I'll be 56 this year also, I'm not so sure about the front wheel drive though. New subsciber, I'm glad I stumbled on this one.
As an old-school-geezer-gearhead, I never got into nor liked anything front wheel drive. I love those Caddys and Olds that have front whhel drive, except the front wheel drive part. To me, front wheel drive has always=wrong wheel drive. Same sentiment about the 73-76 GMC motorhomes: I love em, but not the drivetrain.
Great rustoration project guys, I always liked these cars. Hopefully the roof is still solid under that top. Yeah shes ratty but it will make a great project, I hope you can just regasket the top end and that will get you going again. All these comments about timing and valves stuck obviously didn't finish the video where it obviously has a very blown head gasket. 🤣
Pour a little water down the carb while she is running, maybe it will free up those stuck piston rings, plus it will clean the carbon off the top of the pistons
I can attest to that! I have owned my 1966 4 wheel drum Toronado since 1985 and about 6 years ago rebuilt the brake system. All new lines, rebuilt booster, new wheel cylinders, drums, and brake hoses. It stops OK but the brakes are definitely sketchy at best! LOL They are , however really cool looking and unique vehicles IMO
Great car! They even have the hide away head lights behind the grill! Going to throw an offer at you on the Triumph Spitfire parts car! $500 and I come get it when I can.
Friend of mine had 1 of those back in the day. We thought it was an undesirable pos at the time. It wasn’t old enough to be cool yet. I wish I had it now in the condition it was in back in 1979.
I had a customer with one of those and the first time he came in the trans was slipping.after that job,i vowwed to never mess with one of those again.just scrap it!
I just started your video and a subscription is highly likely, you guys seem fun and interesting and most importantly for me; you have good, long videos
For god sakes people this isn't your car These men can do as they wish! They paid for it. Is it a good idea to fog cylinders yes but they didn't. So move on. Great content great channel. Thanks guys for your hard work and saving these awesome cars from the scrap yard.
The 68 Toronado is one of my favourites and this one is a beauty! Really love her lines and there's so much potential in the beast. Good call on not continuing to cook the engine until it died, but yeah - certainly looks like one (or both) head gaskets have let go between a cylinder and a water jacket. That rotating speedo is a real cool quirk - similar to the Edsel's horizontally rotating speedo wheel thingy. When she was first spinning over, I really didn't have much hope - I thought most of the cylinders had no compression by the sound it was making on crank and didn't think she'd pop off at all. Glad to see I was wrong on that score. Looking forward to Part II, for sure! What are your plans for its future?
He he great. I have subscribed to your channel. My channel is more into a wannabe machine shop, but I like engines and watch many car and machines shop channels and enjoy it. Your channel is good. Thanks
I was truly looking forward to the revival of this classic Olds. And I can see that @ 28k views so did a lot of other people. But I couldn’t fast forward enough !! I don’t know what Alfonso & Gaston actually know about cars but after a while it was almost comical. I’m sorry fellas that was pathetic. I’m glad you’re taking her home and good luck with the restoration but your vid’s IIMO are almost unwatchable. That was a wasted hour I’m sorry.
Just wanting to help out. I think y’all are on the right track however me personally I would like to see more of the work y’all are doing. Derek has left a huge hole I the market since he decided to sell out to corporations revivals are what made his channel and he’s abandoned those people for cable networks. I think y’all can fill a hole just find better balance between work and talk. People want to see the work not just hear about it.

i so glad you took upon yourselves to keep the legacy alive for the husband and wife and for the gy who passed away.

I don't know why they didn't clean the engine bay first
I would find it totally annoying
My parents had a 80" Toranado, was the car i remember the most from my child hood. Was the height of luxury every option including the hood turn light indicators.
I had a 74 Toronado that was a great trip car all my friends loved road trips in that thing. 30 gallon something tank it actually had a pretty good range.
I had 1 too. Tank size actually 25.9 gallon. But you could get @ 250-300 on full tank on highway.
5:30 in so far. The crazy 30s car cord was front wheel drive and supercharged or turboed I think. Don't know much more about them than that. Jay lenno has one I think lol

There is a secondary lockout on a QuadraJet that keeps the secondaries from opening when the choke is on. Just FYI.
Nice car. Good project. Would be interested in a series on this car
Yes please!
All you guys doing UA-cam car revivals should thank Derek from Vice Grip Garage for starting up the Will It Run and Drive home thing. UA-cam is flooded with it😅
Si es cierto 🤣
Dylan McCool started it 2 years before Vice Grip Garage
@@DevelopmentalIssues-e3y let me check 😂
Back then GM actually put stop leak tablets in the radiators before the cars even left the factory.
Its a toranado of course its gonna drive home! These cars were the epitomy of GM engineering at the time, far ahead of their time in fact. Fantastic find.
My parents had a 68 Olds Delta 88 convetible when a was little. It also had a 455
We had one as a kid. It was super quick
On my 39 Pontiac that had been sitting since 56, ( at the 26 yrs) , i took each plug and dipped each one in jelly. Gas. Wiped off the excess. It started on the forth go round!!!

Is quite the project! Very rare Oldsmobile. Hope you guys can fix her up.
Hey guys need to take get a blower and clean all the leaves and junk out off the motor and see if you put some oil down the cylinders blew them up
Boss had a new 66. Toro. Always. Took to car wash and on way home wood smoke tires on side street...fun
Gents! WTAF?! Drain all fluids for crying out loud… WAY MORE PRE-LUBRICATION and cleaning puhhleeeaazuh! Old school stuff, love it!! Keep em coming guys🙏🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧🍺🍺
My dads friend had one identical to this, it was gold colored with a blue leather interior, 💙
Step 1, pull plugs, fog cylinders, step 2 pull carb, rebuild it and install new base gasket, step 3 check fuel and drain it! Agree!
Step 1 should be get the leaves off the motor😂
It also didn’t have hardened valve seats and needed lead in the fuel. Modern fuels not good for 1960s V8s
u guys are sooooo green when it comes to 1960s Oldsmibile
While you're doing research on your w34 you better research the barrel speedometer because it was not a one-year-old deal that was available in a tornado from 66 through 70 the life of the tornado

Great job, guys. I would like to see future videos on this car. Those 455’s are torque monsters. I enjoy your channel.
Had a 79 with a 350 & an 81 with 307 both loaded out & loved the way they'd cruise down the road
a 359??? What engine is that? Did you mean 350 and accidentally hit the "9" instead of "0" key?
Love your videos! You sure don't seem to be afraid to tackle the tough ones. Good to see father and son(s) team working together. Best of luck on your next revival and many thanks for the entertainment. Cheers!
Man parked after ten years of use…boy those were ten hard years. Put the original steel wheels back on before you lose a wheel!

My brother got his old 68 olds delmont 88 convertable back after he sold it 30 years ago

That Mercury Montego in the background looks interesting
That was car of the year in 68
🚫 👉 '66
You got me on the distributor cap being hard to find?? It fits dozens of GM V8 cars from mid 60s-73-4 until they did HEI
And the firing order is the same for all gm v8 and I think the Q-jet are very good carbs.
I think the W-34 package was like the 4-4-2 package . . .
The engine was starving for air when you was trying to start it, first thing I would do is take off the carb and intake, clean out the rats nest, nuts, whatever is clogging exhaust, intake and the water journals. Liked and subscribed! Awesome video of what is one of my favorite American cars.
Good on you man, you did the honorable thing 👍👍🏆
Found y'all by accident- Triumph video,
FACEBOOK didn't give me an option to follow y'all but gave a like 🎉
Good call at the end. No need to completely destroy the engine.
great try you guys..... hope for the best and waiting for follow up video on this car....best of luck....cheers...

Nice job sir Nice car good show sir 😃👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍
Ignition switch was hot, because you hotwired it😂
Never seen one lie that cool looking car
Damn, you guys rode right past me in Mays Landing....
FYI people watching the channel always clean the car thoroughly first then you can work on the car !
stumbled across this channel, love it
Great video even tho it's fwd it's a beautiful looking car
Can't remember the last time I bought a distributor rotor without a new distributor cap. Budget builds are pretty chancy.
Jesus timing guys timing! Sorry i cant watch any longer
Kinda weird how they got the dude out of the garage, thought "nah" when looking at the open door and not even closing it out of common sense
68 baby too! You rock!! 😀
I am curious what you find when you open the motor up, styling is great on those cars, thanks for sharing
Pour a little water down the carb while she is running, maybe it will free up those stuck piston rings, plus it will clean the carbon off the top of the pistons
They came with discs in front from 1967. I had a 66 with drums. And it was dangerous😂
The Muppet Show
Statler & Waldorf, Kermit & Miss Piggy or Ernie & Burt?
🤣
😂
Nice looking car i would say. The bodylines ❤️ Greetings from Sweden
Great car! They even have the hide away head lights behind the grill! Going to throw an offer at you on the Triumph Spitfire parts car! $500 and I come get it when I can.
Hahahahhaahaha that oil pressure test was GOLD!!!!!!
Sorry I don't get on Facebook but I'll follow y'all on UA-cam
1st time watching. Y'all are comical and good backyard mechs. Subscribed!
The rolling/barrel speedometer was on the toronado from 1966 at least through 1970 when they changed the body style.
My 1969 would constantly break speedo cables
Friend of mine had 1 of those back in the day. We thought it was an undesirable pos at the time. It wasn’t old enough to be cool yet. I wish I had it now in the condition it was in back in 1979.
Good job guys
I had a customer with one of those and the first time he came in the trans was slipping.after that job,i vowwed to never mess with one of those again.just scrap it!
And that is the reason why there are so few left and are rarely seen. They're finally starting to gain a little value.
I just started your video and a subscription is highly likely, you guys seem fun and interesting and most importantly for me; you have good, long videos
Now go back and get that old pontiac that was in the background ❤
Twenty rainy days? Two hundred and twenty rainy days!! 😎
The chips kept the critters from chewing the seats
For god sakes people this isn't your car
These men can do as they wish! They paid for it. Is it a good idea to fog cylinders yes but they didn't. So move on. Great content great channel. Thanks guys for your hard work and saving these awesome cars from the scrap yard.
The next time things need lubed on the top of an engine I'm just going to pull the oil pressure sending unit out, start it up and let It lubricate LOL
The 68 Toronado is one of my favourites and this one is a beauty! Really love her lines and there's so much potential in the beast. What you should have done before you drove the care is “paint” the trans-axel boots with motor oil. It keeps them refreshed , so to speak.!!
I can smell the overheating from here!
He he great. I have subscribed to your channel. My channel is more into a wannabe machine shop, but I like engines and watch many car and machines shop channels and enjoy it. Your channel is good. Thanks

My first car was a ‘69 riviera…..damn near the same car just rear wheel drive….the front bumper even looks erriely the same
It hurt me a little that timing is so advanced
Power front discs were option J52 according to the 68 salesman spec book..$78.99.. The W34 option cost $210.64.
I pulled a dual snorkel air cleaner off an early Toronado in a junkyard once and it had disc brakes. Must have been the high-performance version.
Remember guys you crank a tractor you start a car
Just wanting to help out. I think y’all are on the right track however me personally I would like to see more of the work y’all are doing. Drum speedo was from first year, '66 through '70.
