DCS WORLD | MiG-21 Combat Ready Series : 1 // Startup, Taxi, Takeoff

- In this DCS world video I demonstrate the startup, taxi and takeoff of the MiG-21 BIS in a simple tutorial. The MiG-21 is an amazing module that rewards those looking for more of a challenge when flying.
As always, come and join us at / discord For help in any module.
Thanks for watching, next DCS video will be a Radar tutorial for the MiG, don't forget to hit that subscribe button.
Nice job. I used to hate the look of the MIG-21, but I've learned to love it after I bought it. Hope you have more of these, because it is a thrill to fly. Maybe next how to land this lawn dart.
I’ll include landing, it’s quite easy when you know how
Commie hot rod...
It's pretty cool.
This is our main ride at JG1, love this bird.
Still doing my best to learn and, hopefully, master this beast. Honestly, found your video a lot easier than the tutorial.
Great video.
Comparing your flow to mine they look about the same. Glad I'm not missing anything.
Regarding the Mig 21 brakes they are pneumatic. Your pressure gauge is on the right panel forward of the fuel pump switches. You'll just use up your air if you leave the gear handle in the up position. Not hydraulics.
If that does happen you can use the emergency brake pull handle (left of the nose wheel brake handle) to at least get stopped on the runway. It uses the emergency air system and applies roughly half of max braking power. I don't believe you can steer with it though.
@@jmax8692 what would I call it?
Yep. No chute either with an empty main system.
I really lilke to fly the Mig21, it has some of this old-school-analog-vibes - you really "feel" that you are flying an old fighter with much too much power and an airframe, that is not optimised and not controlled by a computer thats doing the hard part of the work.
It would be great if you could do a video about some combat tips and tactics and how to avoid getting outturned by those filthy F-5s.
Keep up the great work, really like your videos!
They’re coming in the combat ready series. Working the Radar, working with GCI, smashing F-5s
You have reignited my interest in the first module I ever bought. I need to learn/relearn all the systems.
Version 2.0 is in the works. They are redoing the visuals and some of the systems of the whole thing.
Thank you for taking the time to make this MiG-21 lesson for us Tactical Pascale.
Terrific intro to a terrific tutorial. Thank you!
2:30 - Just go past the idle cutoff detent and leave it there. Not like in the video. Moving throttle forward may cause the engine flooding followed by extreme exhaust gas temperature.
3:18 - Do not power up the emty pylons. It is useless. Also you should not switch the IR/SARH missiles master arm power switch while on ground. It is used as the master arm switch. You should not turn it on on the ground, take off or landing for safety reasons.
3:50 - Not "On/Off". But "On/Stand By". You have to understand how the radar works. How the vacuum tubes work. You need to keep radar in stand-by mode unless you will have to wait around 5 minutes to heat up the vacuum tubes to the operating temperature. If you don't use radar, keep it in the Stand By mode. It will last for around 45 minutes in the stand-by mode. It is more than enough. It is much longer than usuall flight time is.
About turning - right opposite way. First depress rudder pedals, then press the wheel brake paddle. It is good to have analogue paddle controller. It makes turning much more precise.
6:00 - Wrong. It will not use all hydraulics. It will deplete all compressed air - pneumatics. Not because it tries to raise gears. Because the air powered wheel brakes are applied when the gear lever is in retract position. This causes compressed air leakage.
6:55 - You forgot to connect the nose wheel brake for better braking power at take off and landing.
7:40 - It is not warning. It is the passing marker beacon beeping.
9:00 - Those are not jet engines. Those are solid fuel rocket engines.
Great video. I'm back to DCS thanks to 2.7, so I'm going to watch along with these videos and finally learn the Mig 21. Thanks for the content :)
Excellent ambush fighter
The Mig-21 has a better combat record in DCS than in the real world!
Performed pretty well in the early days in Vietnam. After that.....it’s been smashed.
Damn ... that intro! Goosebumps big time! Great stuff!!!
This is just so much better than the default tutorials in game. Much, much better. The attempt at humour in the in-game Mig 21 tute is fun and all, but nothing is explained and it rushes past important stuff so you have to rerun the whole damn thing from the start just to work out what is being said. ED should get someone like TP to do the in-game stuff. The third party modules are the most terrible (and the Mirage tutorials are by far the worst) but even the ED module tutes are poor. Much poorer than just this video, which doesn’t have the interactive elements.
Thanks very much.
Great video! For the glitches you mentioned at 6:32, I've found that disabling the track recording helped to prevent those. You need to add an "autoexec.cfg" file in Users\\Saved Games\DCS\Config, with the line disable_write_track = true
Oh if this series continues for this module and others, thatll be very exciting.
It will be
the quintessential RedFor plane :) if i were to get a MiG.. it would be the 21. but Man; Russian cockpits are intimidating :)
the Hind looks to be toggle hell too :p
About that intro. Anytime soon, that plane will be older as the USSR itself haha
Thanks for this tutorial 😀
Kudos for the intro, just glorious!
Yes it is
👍
This intro is amazing! What is the music in the background?
Great video, very easy to follow
Great tutorial! I'm gonna pick up this module at the next sale so this will come in handy.
love this bird, almost prefer flying it than any of the modern fighters! So much character!
Just got this on free to play today. Been flying there Hind since release and it’s amazing how similar this startup is to the Hind. Have to love Russian tech.
Very nice, looping for the next video. Subscribed !😊
You can maybe, depending on server use the ecm pod for countermeasures and the jato for takeoff aswell.
epic intro man
Thanks
cant wait for part 2 :)
Radar love coming soon
That sure is a quicker startup then the F16 :P
thanks for the video. very well made
Glad you liked it!
i see this vis now 30 times..
Nice! I don't have the Mig-21 But if I get it I'll use this as a reference. Also, when are the harrier weapon tutorials coming out?
They’re on the schedule.
Nice!
You need to lock the gear after takeoff - if not, you lose too much air for the brake pressure!
That’s why I said return the handle to neutral
@@TacticalPascale It's been some time but i think i remember that you have to lock the gear after setting back the handle to neutral, it is an additional step, you just manually secure the handle with the metal clip, just like you unsecured it initially to raise the gear.
You don’t need to, as long as you return it to the neutral position it’s fine
So do you momentarily hit the brakes and rudder to go the direction you need to go ?
Rudder in, press and hold brake, release as you start to head where you want.
Please more!
It’s coming. I’ve had a few trying weeks.
4-5 minutes of alcohol to cool the system, except on russian airbases, where it has 0 minutes because the ground crew (and probably the pilot too) already drank it all
Air supply will run out for the gear, not hydro fluid... :/ lol Your probably aware of that by now :)
Yup
Do you have any interest in helicopters? I just noticed you don't seem to have any videos featuring them.
I have done Huey start up and navigation videos
Heythere.. How to change the Labels to english?? Thx for help
Go to Options, Special, MiG-21, English cockpit
next video?
I’ve been busy with work, lots more coming next week.
MiG 21is a very old plane, but still so many people love it. I don't see why mocking it, if you love'em - you love'em...to compare it with Boeing F/A-18E/F in terms of "sofistication" is just plain dumb...F-86 "Sabre" is even older, but for me it's still the most beautiful bird that ever flown...
p.s. And no one seems to notice this BS???
I disagree Gary
