You don't have to set the missile priority switch IR-NEUT-SAR. That only picks the order they are launched. Since you only have SAR type loaded they will be fired first in all switch positions. Same with the 1-2-3-4 pylon selection, order priority. The radar filter is unfiltered-filtered-filtered&tilted for high-medium-low altitudes in that order. "MSL" should also always be set for takeoff and landing (since mirror may get damaged by shock when free IRL) and also for AA guided missile firing. If you set "GYRO" it assume you are trying to fire S-5 rockets at air targets. The post-lock "inverted T" always looks like regardless of above or below. You can tell target angle because post-lock radar is forward facing "1st person" type view so down is pitch down not close. LST only affects lock on for targets which are moving slow with respect to the Earth. Basically the radar tries not to lock onto chaff which has no airspeed but will display returns at any speed regardless of LST option. LST option tells radar to lock on even if it may be a chaff cloud at low airspeed.
Span knob changes size of the diamond ring reticle but it's bugged and acting according to the 1-9km range and not the shorter 0-2000m scale so it won't be proper size. It should work similar to K-14 on P-51. If you set manual and rotate the handle to minimum it sets 300m range and "hardens up" the gun sight. This 300m range uses the scale painted in white paint on the knob itself (the other mode uses through the window value). This is recommended for shooting at anything more than 1-2g. The correct procedure is to establish lead while holding the lock button which forces the mirror to eliminate any angle then let the lock button go and the reticle should drift back onto the target.
You can also set "fixed beam" for visual radar acquisition. You'll see the glowling line up the middle of the radar abbreviate when it hits the ground or target. Lock on button as normal.
Be adviced: You can not IFF interrogate a locked target.
IFF interrogation has to be done BEFORE locking.
Symbology is the same as in newer gen Russian aircraft.
Single line = Bandit
Double lines = Friendlies

I don't believe you have to select the next pylon manually when launching missile in the mig. If you leave the selector on pylon 1 IR-SAR it will automatically fire the next missile.

By the time they developed the MiG-21bis you’d think with better interceptors already in the Soviet inventory and an appreciation for a more multi-role requirement they would have made the radar less interception-focused.
Basically the very limited look-down ability of the 21's radar reflects a technological limitation of early 60s fighter radar design, not a deliberate choice.
You don't start seeing LDSD pulse doppler radars on Soviet fighters until the Sapfir-23D-III and 23P for the VVS and PVO MiG 23Ms and Ps. (Circa 1972). This shouldn't be too surprising, though, since you don't start seeing LDSD radars at all until the F4J's AN/APG-59 (circa 1967), and the first RP-22s (MiG 21 radar, incrementally updated but largely unchanged all the way through to the 21bis) were built before that in the early 60s.
the horizontally placed 5 and 10 marks are range marks for track mode, if the moving vertical lines align with the two 5's (target perfectly centred), target is 5 km away.
Also, looks like the range input now works for the gyro sight.
To have an accurate shot with the radar sight you have to hold a constant turn without any wiggle whatsoever. It acts like the very end of a whip.
The pylon selector has to be on the type of missile you want to shoot but it cycles through missiles of the same type automatically afterward I think
I generally carry a bunch of r60m and I don't have to fiddle with it between shots
So not only russian tanks have problems with gun depression

Mig 21s were often directed by other radar units. Referenced in flight of the intruder

How much time do the radar need to stay in prep before use? Maybe I turned it ON too soon because I can not use the TDC (it's not moving) and usually the radar can see anything at any range.
