  • A week long adventurous backpack trip back in April 2019 with my friends across the north half of Puerto Rico. Some of our trip was planned but a good chunk was random and going with the flow. The total cost I spent was under $500 and that included transportation, living accommodation, food and attraction expense. I had a taste of solo travel in Old San Juan on my last day in Puerto Rico and I plan on more solo trips to show you guys around!
    List of places:

    I did this exact trip in 2018! Backpacked for two week, saw all the same sights! The food is SO RICH AND FILLING one play of food lasts you like 2 days. Also did you destroy your shoes by the end of the trip? 🤣 Cuz I sure did. But my heart is full and I'm going back in September to find a forever home there 😭

    I know I'm late but just a little fun fact. The reason why the beach is called flamenco beach is cause in that beach flamencos use to live there. One's the Navy occupied the island as military training ground, the flamencos stopped coming to the beach.
    Flamencos are animals that are very sensitive to human and nature activity, they move everytime they find an inconvenience with an area and rarely comeback

    Hi! Great video. Question: what was the name of the nice blue house you guys stayed at with the pool & barbecue (it looks like it might have been in Rincón)? Also -- Gozalandia Falls is actually located in San Sebastián and Crash Boat named after the military rescue maneuvers held there when Ramey Base was functioning nearby (the debris in the water is from sections of the pier which collapsed during Hurricane Maria in September 2017). Cheers!

Also I didn’t know what information is true on crash boat cause I’ve heard different thing 2 different times over the course of 5 years span. I recall there being 3 piers the first time I went and this time it was gone. Thanks for the information!!!

      Hey John! Thank you so much! I only rented a car. A lot of my friends that’s lived there say it’s best to rent a car if you want to go around the island. Mind you that for this trip I did split car price with 3 other friends so my cost was lower. It also depends on the time of the year you go too. I went beginning of April. It was $270 for a Toyota corella for 1 week. What is your budget?

    Going solo my first time to PR in 2022. When I go just looking to walk around, you know get the feel for stuff. Chill at the beach, sample food etc etc... Any good region to stay or is Old San Juan pretty much it?

    • @CarlinYu.
      @CarlinYu.  3 роки тому +4

      Hey! Planning ahead I see! That’s awesome! I do plan on going back soon but not sure when yet. As for your questions, it entirely up to you and your budget. Old San Juan is very very small and is more city like. There are multiple different regions you can stay at too but you’ll need a vehicle. I’ve stayed at Airbnbs at Aguada and Rìo grande, lived in Ponce for a bit and hostel a little outside Old San Juan. I mainly picked my stay based on the areas I am exploring so I can maximize my exploring. If you have the budget to get a car then I’ll suggest you see what places you definitely want to explore and then book Airbnb’s based on those spots. I’ll have to say the best beaches are NW and SW of Puerto Rico. Old San Juan is great and all but honestly exploring and hiking in out regions are much much better.

      I tried clicking on the information about the Airbnb we were at but I keep getting an error code. I think they hide their listing at the moment. They had a lot of good reviews and a superhost too. I'll update if it's back up again.

    Will you ever consider moving to Puerto Rico?

    • @CarlinYu.
      @CarlinYu.  2 роки тому

      When I was in the military I thought about trying to get stationed there. I would say I would have to live there for a year before considering long term. There are perks of living there’s like outdoor activities and the temperature. Also great for excluding tax for income from Puerto Rico. Are you thinking about moving to Puerto Rico or are you a resident there?

    We just got back from PR. Check out our videos. We did the whole island. Good video thanks for sharing .

    Visited PR 15 yrs ago, looks like nothing has changed. Nothing to eat except what's in the plastic boxes. Fried fried and more fried foods . . .

      Next time visit a restaurant if you are looking for good food. I would recommend: Areyto by Chef Jason @ 1950 Calle Loíza, San Juan or Amadeus Rest. in Chardon Ave. Unless you are vegan in which case we also have great places you can eat.

      You are wrong. One thing is the street food and other thing is what we eat at home. You will be surprise. Don't talk about you don't know. Ask and have conversation with puertoricans.

    So many of these types of videos have that constant music. Is it really necessary?

    • @CarlinYu.
      @CarlinYu.  2 роки тому

      I don’t think it’s necessary. It was my first travel video and I was learning from other peoples videos. It all depends on the creator themselves. Do you prefer travel videos with on and off music?

    • @Jagueyes1
      @Jagueyes1 2 роки тому +1

      @@CarlinYu. What you're saying on the videos is so interesting and the editing so well done that music is not really necessary, not at all times anyway. Also, if available, instrumental music typical of the region you're covering would be nice.
      Thanks for responding!

      @@Jagueyes1 I do realize after posting that sometimes the music was not necessary. I pick music based on the mood I want to go for not necessarily by the region. I do look into regional music too. You’re welcome, critics are necessary!
