Here's a fun story, when i went to see Cannibal Corpse live, and the roadies were setting up the stage, the DJ at the venue was playing an entire Six Feet Under record through the PA. I have not listened to dream theater at all, I checked them out, heard clean singing and turned it off, so this is not my opinion but his opinion.

Dream Theater’s Metropolis pt. 2 is what got me into music and is still my favorite album, so I’ll always have a soft spot for them, even if I’ve grown out of most of their discography. I totally get where you’re coming from though
Dream theater appeals to the mentally deranged adhd musician in me, and still do from time to time. But they were absolutely a phase for me that I grew out of. The seem to make music for musicians, if that makes sense.
Ok. See your video is very polite, and intelligent. I actually like Six Feet Under but your arguments against them are just. I haven't loved the last 4 albums. So I get what you're saying. I own some Dream Theater too but I too haven't loved the last 4 to 5 albums of theirs. You are not coming off as an elitist and you are generally giving your opinion. Thank you for your professionalism in your dislikes.
Its funny … carach angren was one of the first less known bands i listend to … so i went back through some of my metal magazines and i had hardly seen that band in the magazines - but then i was in a shop and found one magazine i had missed out on - and it had stuff about carach angren ! And it talked about how much metal heads had such a problem with them lol - just by almost missing out on one magazine i had almost skipped a chapter in metal history! Lol.
As a diehard Dream Theater fan, I can certainly understand the issue with the fan base. The Mike vs Mike debate got old very very quickly, and 13 years later still goes on regularly. On the backs of Angels is just shy of 9 minutes, so I'm not sure which song you were referring to.
I absolutely understand you don't like Dream Theater. Altough I'm a big DT fan (and prog rock fan in general), there is sometimes the feeling that its almost too perfect. Some albums (like Scenes From A Memory) are absolutely fantastic, while for example The Astonishing is just too much of everything. Like my brain is melting down when I listen to The Astonishing in one run. Etc... :)

I love how respectfully you did this, you my good sir deserve so many more subs. At this point I just laugh because I expect to hear it. 😅 It's so rare for me to shit talk etc music I don't like but I must say Ghost is horrendous. Their branding was successful with people who love wearing merch they don't listen to, but that's about it. SFU is extremely disappointing, although I do like some of their old stuff. Here’s my thing. I can understand that there’s bands people don’t like, I have bands I don’t like myself. But to say any musician “sucks” I would never do. Cause chances are they can sing or play any instrument better then I can. If I don’t like the band I just don’t listen to them, but I never rag on them.
It's fine that you dislike Dream Theater and yeah they do have some pretty long songs, however I think the appeal of Dream Theater, at least older albums do this, is that they're story based. I think Metropolis Pt 2: Scenes from a Memory is a master piece. I'm not a huge fan of the new stuff though. Side note, On the Backs of Angels is not 20 minutes. It's about 8 minutes.
Haha, sounds like an angry bedtime story. Very good description, but then I suppose it's meant to be. The only thing I don't like about Carach Angren is the Narrative done in black metal vocals. I'm sure I can't be the only one who thought of Dopesmoker/Jerusalem by Sleep when he mentioned no liking Dream Theater's long songs. Like, you don't like a 20 minute song, you're gonna hate a literal HOUR long song. I can't even listen to it all the way through anymore. How are the other bands on the a.m.s.g split besides arrogance? I know a.m.s.g and svolder are great solid bands but what about hotium ( I know I butchered the spelling haha)
Good list. Not going to lie, I like a few select SFU albums (Haunted, Maximum Violence, Undead), but most of their catalogue is terrible, especially their Graveyard “Classics” series (more like Graveyard Abominations). I also like some old Dream Theater albums (Images and Words, Awake, Metropolis Pt. 2, as well as most of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence), but their stuff from 2000-onwards just does nothing for me. There’s not many bands I actively despise, but there are a few that I’ve never clicked with: -Sodom (outside of Tapping the Vein) -Queens of the Stone Age (outside of a few singles) -Deafheaven (nothing to do with the “they’re not real black metal” bullshit, just never enjoyed black gaze as a whole) -Dissection (their particular style of symphonic black metal just doesn’t click with me for some reason) -Voivod (I really want to like this band, but I think it’s because of Snake’s lead vocals. I don’t like them very much.)
I'm with you on Dream Theater, I don't like them either. Granted, I've only listened to Images and Words, but if I didn't like them at what many people consider to be their best, then what chance do I have of liking their other albums?
never got the idea behind Six Feet Under and I totally agree with you on their AC/DC - Covers. Abysmal... and for Dream Theater. Three good albums. That was it. "Awake" is the benchmark when it comes to prog-metal. But after that it is just downhill ever since
Poser.... Good video! It's actually kind of hard for me to think of bands that I have a strong dislike/hate for. I might say Revenge and Death Worship, but that's not so much dislike as it is their reputation vs my own inability to get into them.... Dream Theater is okay for me, just never really spent a whole lot of time with the band outside of the one album I bought forever ago. Six Feet Under, I sort of dig a little bit. I enjoy the groove/stoner aspect to the band. Barnes vocals are certainly unique. They're definitely not a top favorite band or anything though.... Thanks!
By openly not liking Dream Theater and having the exact same view on them (and their pseudo-intellectual fan base) as myself, you just scored a lot of points in my book, dude! :)
Wyatt did you ever listen to the album Home by Numenorean that came out last year? Great atmospheric black metal album and would love to hear what you think of it?
What do you think about Torture Killer, after Chris Barnes left them in 2008? i think they went from being a six feet under cover band to outclassing them hugely!

I definitely hate Six feet under (specially the TNT cover). But there is a band I saw last summer which blew me away for how band I thought they were.. I’m talking about Sinistro from Portugal. I just remember myself wanting to fucking go to sleep (btw the only reason I was there was because I was waiting for Anaal Nathrakh to come on stage). The members are mostly wery big and hairy Latino guys but the lead singer is a tiny woman who was basically just talking while the guys were playing some crappy songs. Sinistro gets my number one definitely!
I love Carach angren but their earlier stuff ... I genuinely feel like they have so much potential that they've kinda let get away from them as it stands
I was listening to On The Backs of Angels by Dream Theater as you were mentioning it and I couldn't help but laugh. Also, the song is almost 9 minutes long, not 20, but you're right about how their songs have ridiculous length. I believe their longest song is like 25 or 26 minutes long, could be wrong
souleater: Wait.....you DO listen to Lorde......AND.....BURZUM....??? What kind of a sick fuck are you? Varg's "Band" is basically Black Metal Elitism incarnate. LOL
My personal favorite bands(no real order): Slayer(no explanation needed) Ghoul Dystopia(Human=Garbage is one of my favorite albums) Devo(I'm not kidding here) Death(Chuck is my god) Iota(go check out Frankenstein Earphone Radio God, good album) Biohazard(hardcore punk + groove metal = cool stuff) Tool Iron Maiden Bolt Thrower Mastodon(pretty cool stuff) Sleep The Melvins(I have a bad habit of falling asleep when listening to Houdini) Vektor(Terminal Redux is another great album) Sunn O)))(I actually like drone metal) That's all for now. I'll probably update this list at some point.
As a Dream Theater fan I use to not like them, and it wasn’t because I was dumb, but because my tastes in music at the time were more groove based, and less about the absurd wankery. Over time I started liking them more because I learned to appreciate it and eventually became a big fan. Intelligence has nothing to do with not liking Dream Theater, and I do actually not like most of the other fans of this band, same way with other tool fans.
Carach Angren to me are like the Cradle of Filth/Dimmu Borgir of the new generation, meaning cheesy and commercial black metal for non-black-metal fans. And I actually like a lot of super synthy BM like Summoning, Limbonic Art, early Nokturnal Mortum, early Emperor, Rotting Christ, Vordven, Elffor, Elysian Blaze, Nortt, Dolorian, etc. It's how they use them to aid atmosphere rather than just make everything all warm and syrupy sounding.
Síx feet under has some terríble songs but they also have amazing ones. They don't take them selves too seriously and just have fun and I respect them also "Torn to the bone'' is a great song
If I dislike something, I just don’t listen to it or think enough about it to talk about it. I guess it came with age. When I was younger, there bands that got under my skin. Six Feet Under sucks now, but I still listen to Haunted.
+ Wyattxhim At about 10:14 you mention a bunch of bands, when talking about Intolitarian. What's the first band you mention, just before Reek of Unsen Gas Fumes?
I love early Carach Angren, especially "Death Came Through a Phantom Ship" where the use of orchestral elements only add a grand, cinematic presence to the music rather than making it sound cheesy like Dimmu Borgir. Everything after "Where the Corpses Sink Forever" has just been so stale and cringy, a shame really...
As far as carafe hungren goes I just looked them up never listened to them and it was a live performance. 1 they had this verse riff that was almost a exact copy of the reign in blood intro. 2. It’s really hard to make your black metal bad look evil when you have skid mark corpse paint full body leather suits especially if your the dude playing the stand up keyboard.
I like a few of the bands that you mentioned, but it's perfectly fine you don't like them. Everyone has an opinion and I don't understand why loads of people are getting triggered. Everyone has a different point of view and just forcing a band onto someone who doesn't like them is just pointless and can make the person just dislike it even more.
This video was interesting and I enjoyed it, but most of all, I got a major laugh from being introduced to the spoken word "hate speech" intro to "Your Children Hung Disemboweled" is levels of edgelord cringe I haven't seen since 2007!
No 1 for me is Gojira. How do so many people like that boring crap? btw what, all of your suggestions at 17:21 are fucking amazing, I don't think many people hate them:)
with Dream Theater you gotta really pick n choose stuff in there catalog that are good, %90 of there stuff is is soooo filler and cringy and boring but they do have some good stuff like Under a Glass Moon
He has mentioned two of the bands I can stand in the metal genre: SFU and DT. I remember seeing SFU a few years ago and walking out early because it was ridiculous for me and too emo for me because all the emo and hardcore kids were there. DT, I tried so hard to get into them and I just couldn’t, because it was starting to become a snooze fest for me with the long songs... however I like some long songs that have great riffs, solos, or can tell a great story, but constant changes becomes too much and makes me want to skip to the next. But the one I really dislike the most is CoF, and I think that’s enough said!
Chris Barnes went from being a great Death Metal vocalist, to sounding like your uncle making fun of Death Metal.

My personal favorite bands(no real order):
Slayer(no explanation needed)
Ghoul
Dystopia(Human=Garbage is one of my favorite albums)
Devo(I'm not kidding here)
Death(Chuck is my god)
Iota(go check out Frankenstein Earphone Radio God, good album)
Biohazard(hardcore punk + groove metal = cool stuff)
Tool
Iron Maiden
Bolt Thrower
Mastodon(pretty cool stuff)
Sleep
The Melvins(I have a bad habit of falling asleep when listening to Houdini)
Vektor(Terminal Redux is another great album)
Sunn O)))(I actually like drone metal)
That's all for now. I'll probably update this list at some point.
NumberNEINLarge thank you for putting the Melvins in that list.
I'm a little bit unhinged just a lil bit Yeah, they're pretty cool. Though, I've seen a lot of people who don't like them.
NumberNEINLarge they're stupid.
I'm a little bit unhinged just a lil bit Oh. Well, I guess we all have different opinions.
Sunn live... amazing
Seen carach with deicide long ago... I love BM but it was so bland
Rotting Christ always blends the synth into the regular metal sound.
@@diabolivirtusen-tavares-ea4645 I saw them with Rotting Christ and Marduk, and yeah, so boring. Jack Owen couldn't save it.
@@murray9807 Yep, they've always had a really good tasteful balance of atmosphere and melody in their sound.
Nortt is funeral doom, not black metal
Síx feet under has some terríble songs but they also have amazing ones. They don't take them selves too seriously and just have fun and I respect them also "Torn to the
bone'' is a great song
If I dislike something, I just don’t listen to it or think enough about it to talk about it. I guess it came with age. When I was younger, there bands that got under my skin. Six Feet Under sucks now, but I still listen to Haunted.
It’d be cool if you made another video like this when work gets less hectic for you
+
Wyattxhim At about 10:14 you mention a bunch of bands, when talking about Intolitarian. What's the first band you mention, just before Reek of Unsen Gas Fumes?
Knelt Rote
I can never understand why people have to take an opinion on something, personally. It’s just a question of taste. That’s all.
I like your videos so much can you make more videos like this
As a Dream Theater fan myself, the fandom and Tool’s fans as well can get really pretentious sometimes haha!
1. Sleep Token
2. Sleep Token
3. Sleep Token
4. Sleep Token
5. Sleep Token
Was it murdered in the basement you were talking about? I had read that Seth Putnam actually liked that song
And yes I also know the similarities to all I said to cradle of filth as well. But call me a poser I like c.o.f.
1 and 2 I cant find there music anywhere I was curious to hear them
Great video!
What your thoughts on Death Toll 80k??
My list are
1 - bring me the horizon
2 - wormed
3 - slipknot
4 - autopsy
5 - pantera
I stopped paying attention to Tribulation after their awesome debut 'The Horror'. They changed their sound to what I'm not into.
You need to take a deep look into what Mya's Shole has been producing lately. It's noisy blackened sludge. I bet you'd like it
Did you hear? Summoning just announced there new album for January 8th
of course !!
I am looking for it dude
I see that hate forest wax back there. 🐉 them, drudkh, and BOK are fucking amazing. cheers.
I need to do one of these now.
I'm not a big Dream Theater fan but man A Dramatic Turn of Events is pretty cool. I ultimately agree with ya though
When you get an ad a minute and seven seconds in
with Dream Theater you gotta really pick n choose stuff in there catalog that are good, %90 of there stuff is is soooo filler and cringy and boring but they do have some good stuff like Under a Glass Moon
I share the same opinion on Carach Angren. A shame really, they prosimed a lot more with their third album.
Does anyone have a link or so to Arrogance music and the second spot? I can't find anything online and I'm very curious
Second spot: ua-cam.com/video/De1DHTcbad4/v-deo.html
Arrogance: ua-cam.com/video/kCUyjDaNrxo/v-deo.html
He has mentioned two of the bands I can stand in the metal genre: SFU and DT. I remember seeing SFU a few years ago and walking out early because it was ridiculous for me and too emo for me because all the emo and hardcore kids were there. DT, I tried so hard to get into them and I just couldn’t, because it was starting to become a snooze fest for me with the long songs... however I like some long songs that have great riffs, solos, or can tell a great story, but constant changes becomes too much and makes me want to skip to the next. But the one I really dislike the most is CoF, and I think that’s enough said!
This Aint a fairytale is a song from Sonata Arctica, one of the few power metal songs I enjoy!
