      I think this video has over played the hating each other, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks got on reasonably well, they chose to share s house together whilst making rumours. I think it was Christine and John fighting separately and Lyndsay and Stevie also not getting on. I think it was more that each member had a personal crisis rather than all hating each other. That's the way the 'Classic albums' seems to portray things

    • @Bobmacca64
      @Bobmacca64 Рік тому +10

      @@Bertanerny you're absolutely right. Every book or documentary about the band says as much. Stevie and Christine were really close friends, saying they wanted to support each other to death as the sole women in the band. They indeed shared a house and were really good friends up until Christine's death last year. Also, Lindsey and John for instance, or even Mick, didn't have many fights, from what I can gather. It was just that there were too many ' couples problems' in there:) What a wonderful pop-rock band anyway!

    This is why I always caution those who tell me they want to be a rockstar. It doesn’t matter how good of friends you are in the beginning, fame and money change things, greed takes hold, and egos get out of control.
    When you have people in your ear constantly telling you that you’re the reason the band is successful, sooner or later you’re going to start believing it. And that will eventually boil over on other band members.
    Add that to the pressure from label execs to constantly sell more albums, being away from home for months (or sometimes years) at a time, friends, family and con artists trying to scam money out of you, and never having any privacy…and you’ve got a pressure cooker ready to explode.
    There are maybe a handful of successful bands in existence that still have their original members, and those members are actually friends. Green Day and U2 are the only two examples I can think of.

    • @Revelwoodie
      @Revelwoodie Рік тому +8

      True, it is a recipe for trouble. All bands have squabbles that they manage to just shrug off and move on from. But when you become successful, and the stakes get so much higher, the squabbles get MUCH bigger. Especially since there's always that one guy... The guy who is sure this is HIS band. The guy with the bad temper. The guy who doesn't want to hear your ideas. The guy who drinks too much. The guy who decides he's in charge. THAT guy.
      In most of the examples on the list, one of the guys is THAT guy. Eddie Van Halen. Axl Rose. Billie Corgan. Roger Waters. These are all famously a-holes. So these aren't really feuds in many cases, lol, it's the a-hole and the guy who decided he was done rolling over for it.

Mike and Pete didn't have a good relationship but, they were basically from 2 different backgrounds. However, that didn't stop them from fighting with the higher ups to gain more musical freedom. The Monkees story definitely did not end in the 60s. Davy Jones once said The Monkees were like the mafia...sooner or later you always come back. In the 70s, Micky and Davy toured with songwriters Boyce and Hart, though not under the Monkee name. The 80s saw an official and very popular reunion tour coupled with a less popular new album (Pool It!) With Micky, Davy and Peter. The 90s saw a full reunion with a new album and Monkees "episode", but unfortunately before the US tour Mike dropped out due to issues with Davy during the UK tour.
    Davy, Micky and Peter toured some in the 00s, but at one point Peter was kicked out. In 2011 all four were in talks for a 50th anniversary tour, but Mike at the time couldn't play guitar, but was open to a tour the next year as a 50th anniversary of the album Headquarters. Unfortunately, that February, Davy died. The other three continued with the reunion and even released another album in 2016 which became their first top 20 album since 1968. Peter continued to tour with them until his health prevented it, then he died in 2019. Mike and Micky released a tour album in 2020. Mike died in 2021 as an active Monkee having just finished a tour weeks prior and having future dates scheduled.
    Anyway, the point is The Monkees story didn’t end in 1968. I realize there are 19 other bands to get to, but post 1968 could've been glossed over with a sentence or two instead of ignored.

    Journey is an interesting case because Steve Perry was kinda "pushed" into Journey by the record label. The band didn't even want him because they viewed him as a "crooner". Having said that, I get the impression Steve was able to cement himself somewhat with his compositional talents, since he had good song-writing chemistry with Neal.
    Although if reports are to be believed, Steve started taking more control over the band in the mid 80s and apparently caused friction with the rest of the band members, but Steve found the touring life too difficult and decided to call it quits.
    They reformed a decade later, released a new album, but then Steve ended up injuring his hip - but apparently he refused to get a hip replacement so he could start touring. They waited for a year and a half for him to make up his mind on if he'd have the surgery, but then said if he didn't do it, they'd continue without him.
    Steve got upset, quit the band. He later said that he never felt like part of the band, but I wonder if it's because he felt like his contribution was what made the band "Journey". It's obvious from interviews he felt at the time he was a core part of the bands identity. He said he wanted them to leave the Journey name alone if he wasn't involved and I doubt he likes that the band tours without him, with what is literally a tribute vocalist. Granted, Journey WAS a band before Steve came along but then... they're copying the "Perry years".
    I do feel bad for Steve because I feel like the bands actions have proven Steve right. If Journey had tried to gain a new identity with a new singer, I'd have felt differently, but they're clearly reliving the Perry years without him. Anything they did before he joined is ignored. I think it's a bit disrespectful to continue a band in that way when the core member that gave them that identity isn't exactly giving his blessing for it.

    Honestly I feel like you really can’t blame bandmates for hating each other. Just being in a band is a pain in the fricken ass alone. You gotta deal with members not showing up to practice, creative differences, varying skill levels, lack of preparation, ego-battles, etc. etc. etc.
    I’ve only ever found one person in my entire music career that I actually meld with. And it’s funny because she and I are like night-and-day complete opposite humans. But when we practice and perform together, it’s like a match made in heaven. But after years of doing music, that one single person is really it. You could play music with your absolute best friend and there’s still a chance that things will go horribly wrong.

    I completely disagree with #13, Steve Perry.... it should be Neil Schon vs Everyone else. Schon was the reason Perry quit the band. Perry needed surgery from an injury in Hawaii and Schon thought Perry should wait till after their tour to do it. Perry refused and that was it. Schon has also run off Steve Smith, and Ross Vallory. Most recently Schon and Jonathan Cain were involved in a lawsuit against each other over Journey band rights, Schon's spending sprees and general issues. And years ago Schon ran off Greg Rollie. All that remains is the Neil Schon Tribute band, with Cain, but the rest are all fill-ins. Perry took the band n to new financial and mainstream heights, which no other band member could.

    For what it's worth, Neal and Steve have made amends years ago. Now the real beef is between Neal and Jonathan Cain. It's tearing the band apart. They kicked Ross Valory out, and he's been there since the very beginning. And Arnel Pineda is getting fed up. They're my favorite band but I think it would be best if they all retired. Steve had to do it in the late 90s when he had to get hip surgery, but he seems very happy now. He discovered he had a daughter from a one night stand and has been making up for lost time with her and her children.

    The members of journey do not hate Steve, nor does Steve hate them. Steve still respects them and still misses/loves the days he was in journey. The other members have supported his recent albums/congratulated him, and Steve does the same. Yes, they had conflicts, as does every band. They went through a lot together, they have referred to themselves as brothers even. So to say that every member hates him is outrageous.
