A lot of people don't care or respect history any longer. I'm in the process of purchasing an historic home myself, pretty much unchanged for over a century, that had basically been left to rot for a decade. So sad how we're losing all of these stories.
Thanks for helping to keep history alive.

Great Vlog! I grew up in SF and spent my childhood with my parents paying our respects at that and three other cemeteries in that area. If you’re still in town, Joe use to frequent a small pub near his marina district house call Liverpool Lil’s ( closed in 2016). He use to sit very quietly by himself and keep to himself.

Joe DiMaggio was a great baseball player but a very flawed man.
I grew up 20 minutes from Marilyn's house at the time and 2 friends of my parents knew Marilyn personally. One was our next door neighbor who had a famous vaudeville act back in the day and, later, was an actor on a very popular tv show. I remember him banging on our back kitchen door very early the morning the papers came out with the news of MM's death. I had never seen him upset or heard him curse in all the many years we lived next door to him. He was near hysterical and clutching the LA times. He cried, "Marilyn is DEAD! She's DEAD!! Those g-d Kennedys killed her. She KNEW TOO MUCH!" And that was the general opinion of most people who lived in Hollywood. Marilyn was silenced! AND...it was also well known that she suffered near daily verbal, emotional, and physical abuse during her brief marriage to DiMaggio. It had nothing to do with love. The man was MANIACALLY obsessed with her, very "unhealthy". Before, during and even after their marriage was over, Joe wore various disguises and stalked Marilyn everywhere she went. The "Wrong Door Raid" was just the most famous of these many bizarre incidents. MM's makeup man, Whitey Snyder had to cover numerous bruises on her face and body. Her masseur gave her daily massages and a witness to them all. So was her wardrobe stylist. Joe's abuse of Marilyn was well known behind the scenes, but the press was hesitant to publish anything negative because of his public image as a baseball legend. There's a very good book on what Joe DiMaggio "the Man" was like when the cameras were off, written by his former manager. He knew Joe better than anyone. It was on Amazon several years ago when I purchased it. The public Joe was very, very different than the private one. He had some serious anger issues and weird s%xual proclivities. His traveling manager waa a witness to a lot of this as well as several others. A flight attendant was so traumatized by what he did to her that she literally ran out of a hotel suite and never spoke to him again.. She said the incident kept her in therapy for years and she never "got over it". Over the years, his manager said that Joe's prima donna temperament and cold dismissal of anyone who didn't kowtow to him 24/7 drove people away, including his own family. He died estranged from family and former friends/business associates, and was a very bitter, lonely man towards the end of his life. His manager said his remaining family attended his funeral "out of courtesy", but they had not been in communication with Joe for years. As far as his personal life, he reaped what he sowed. Joe's son, who was virtually ignored by both his father and mother, died a young man soon after his father. Joe had shown little to no interest in his son as he grew up, preferring to ship him off to boarding schools. The few times his father did show up at his school, he said his father showed more interest in signing autographs for his school chums than spending any time with him, his own son! Joe Jr. said his father's interests were more focused on chasing women than in developing a meaningful. relationship with him. Marilyn recognized Joe's failure as a father and invested whatever time she had to be a mother figure to Joe Jr., bringing gifts and food during her visits to his school, buying him clothes,.taking him out to eat at nice restaurants. They regularly corresponded and she called him several times a week to check up on him. She, in fact, spoke to Joe Jr. in the last hours before her death. He later described their call as very lively and warm and she had shown no hint whatsoever of depression or wanting to commit suicide.

Great Vlog Jordan. I love when you visit the old baseball players and actors/actresses. I met Joe at an autograph signing in the early 1990's and he was a big grumpy. I did ask him about one hobby he had (model railroading) and this seemed to brighten his spirits a bit. A true legend.

My favorite team and I am smack dab in Cleveland Indian territory lol
Ever since I can remember I've loved the Yankees. My Dad would take me every year to see Cleveland play the Yankees . Even though he would walk a pace or 2 behind me lmao because I was in my Yankee Gear.
My mom passed in 2015 it's been hard on him . So since my kids are all out on their own. My Youngest is training for the WWE.. I knew when he was in the playpen he was either going to be a professional baseball player. He could hit me in the same spot on my head with his bottle because I slept when he did. Lol he just turned 21.
The last time we were at a Indians V Yankee game was when my all time fav Marino Rivera was retiring. Dad, me and my daughter , and my 2 sons!!
Tried to get dad up there these past 2 summers but he just turned 80. So unless we have box seats he can't make the climb up the stairs🥺
Thank you Jordan for this! Dad saw Mantle and Maris . I am a huge Roger Maris Fan and Mantle but before my time.
Cool story last time billy Martin managed the Yankees and when they were at the old municipal stadium he actually did his trademark kicking dirt at the umpire ect !!!!!

Maybe I’m biased because I am a black man. With that said. I’m not questioning his talent. Prior to 1947. Many players, including Joe DiMaggio. Didn’t face black pitchers for the majority of their careers. Nor, were blacks or, non whites allowed to play. And by 1947, Joe was near the end of his career. My point, how different would the stats be if they were allowed in from the beginning. This is nothing against you, Jordan. I enjoy your work.

Great vlog Jordan. I made my first trip to San Francisco this year and while I did not see his grave, I saw his high school. I also took the tour of City Hall, which is where Marilyn and Joe were married. When I was there I was also surprised to see that Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera got their wedding license there and they have pictures of that too. I know you probably already know this but the reason Joe DiMaggio had Marilyn interred at the then very small and unheralded Westwood Cemetery was because her beloved adopted Aunt Ana and her foster mother Grace Goddard are both buried there. When I went to Westwood this year I not only saw Marilyn's grave of course, but I saw Aunt Ana''s and Grace's also. He wanted her to be near people that she loved and that loved her when she was a complete unknown.

My uncle knew Joe DiMaggio. When I found out my next question to my uncle was if he also knew Marilyn Monroe. A hush suddenly arose over the table, as if I what I asked was taboo. Some of the men on my mother’s side had a reputation of being womanizers so maybe it was inappropriate. I never did muster the courage to ask my uncle anymore questions. Although my mom who is still alive will not rule out the possibility. Anyway now that my uncle is gone we will never know.

Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe lived together:
    * secretive in 1952 renting with DiMaggio : 2393 Castilian Drive, Outpost Estates, Hollywood Hills
    * 1954 Clifton Motel (honeymoon) before Korea Tour
    * 2150 Beach Street, Marina District, San Francisco (two-storey house, owned by DiMaggio)
    * 508 North Palm Drive, Beverly Hills (rent of 700$ a month)
They go back and forth to California due Marilyn acting career in hollywood. They were meant to bury next to each when they thought their marriage would last forever until death due us apart just to show Joe still has document papers of the burial plot even when she was married to Arthur Millerr, it was then about 3 years he sold it after her death. (I don't what was reason why he sold it)
    * He sat 4 to 5 hours alone in the room Marilyn's body up gave her favourite rose in the casket, the day before the funeral at the Westwood Village Mortuary. Overwhelmed, Joe DiMaggio leaned for a final tribute on the bronze coffin and whispered three times, " I love you ." The ceremony ended with one of Marilyn's favorite tunes: " Over the Rainbow " performed by Judy Garland.

The last name DiMaggio means in Italian that a boy or girl was born in the month of May. When children were abandoned in Italy in shelters or outside a church, authorities in the 18 or 19 century assigned this kind of last names. Many were also named Exposito from the Latin word Exposed or Expelled. Probably many generations ago this was the case with one of Joe DiMaggio ancestor.

Joe DiMaggio was the only person who really, sincerely loved Merilyn Monroe. All other person in her life didn't knew, what does it mean to love somebody.

Jordan, as always your vlogs are the best! I so enjoyed you giving us a walk down memory lane! Marilyn, would have still been alive longer; had she still been with Joe! Joe, loved her and she miscarried his baby! I remember her saying that their marriage lasted 9 months!
Who knows what would have been; had things been different! R.I.P. Joe and Marilyn ⚾🎬⚾🎬⚾💕

Wonderful vlog Jordan. I really love seeing San Francisco such a beautiful place. I love JDs Terrace house l hope to see more of the area. I hope to see a baseball game in person . I used to play softball. My memory of Leonard was your vlog of dodger game. . I think MM if it wasn't a murder and overdose it was an accident she was on heavy drugs sometimes you can forget that you taken meds if your on strong meds and those meds she was on were extremely strong and no longer available for general public. I agree their graves should be together.

I heard Joe DiMaggio could be a jerk. He once punched Billy Crystal in the stomach after Billy didn't announce at Yankee Stadium "The greatest living ballplayer Joe DiMaggio".

    • @DazewithJordantheLion
      @DazewithJordantheLion  4 роки тому +2

That was Joe's demand everywhere he went. He had it in contracts that he was announced that way.. Ted williams as a joke had them announce him right after Joe and they said "the greatest living hitter, Ted williams". You could see Joe dimaggio turn around and take a double take look at Ted.

I had always heard Joe was a great baseball player, but I didn't know any facts about him. I love the fact he would hide from his Father so he didn't have to clean up the fishing boat. So sad to hear that they were supposed to be getting back together and unfortunately she died. Once again, Jordan, you did good in having a great history on him!!!🌼

Great video on one of the best baseball players ever! You didn't give up on the National League, and your Reds? Just curious because it's the second time I've seen you with a Yankee hat on. Really enjoyed the video thank you. During those 10 world series the Yankees were lucky not to have had to play the Astros for the AL. It might of been a banging loss.
