Thanks for watching!
We just heard the sad news that Steve had past away from heart disease. We were so thankful and blessed to have known him and to have told his story .
This photo is both timeless and iconic. The absolutely finest photo of Joe Di Maggio and Mickey Mantle I've yet seen, a magnificent image. We must offer a heartfelt tribute to the late Steve Flesser, for taking this legendary photo of Joe and Mickey.
I was at Mickey Mantle Day. Mick was my boyhood idol.
Mickey Mantle was my girlhood idol
Timeless - such a professional - RIP
I Just a kid when I first payed attention to baseball. I wanted to be like these great players of the past. Even though I was a Reds fan, the pinstripes of the Yankees grabbed attracted me more and more to the game of baseball.
Excellent story and RIP Steve ❤
I like what was said about the patriotism that showed in their faces in regards to their respect for the flag.
LEGENDS!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing. Joe DiMaggio is my Favorite Player!❣️( No offense to Mantle, he's incredible. ) I'm sorry for your Loss.🙏
Mick my boyhood hero!
I own and will forever a Record of this game. In my mind it is priceless. Epic and those guys were Two of the greatest ALL TIME
Joe D was a phenomenal player on the field but an EPIC asshole off it
@@gregamerson9172 Did you know him personally to make such a statement. What did he do so wrong to you, that you came with all your hate to spoil this great video?
@gracedagostino5231 if u can research at all you can find out for yrself
New York writers looked after him most of his career
He was a classic narcissist n only cared bout his money n himself.
That's why it took no longer than it did to run Marilyn off
He was a LARGE POS
I visited "old" Yankee Stadium in 2007. While there, i took the tour of Monument Park, where Yankee Greats are honored. That day my wife took a picture of me (in my Mantle jersey), standing between Joe's #5 plaque and Mickey's #7 plaque. I framed it later and put the caption "In Good Company" beneath the picture. It remains on display in my mancave to this day.
Awesome video, Legends
Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio ?
At the end of a tour of Lousiville Slugger factory they allowed me to pick one of several bats used by the greats for a picture. Knowing I was a proud Canadian they assumed I would take Joey Votto and I almost did. Then I surprised them by taking the guy I grew up with to love baseball. Mr. Mantle.
Joe didn’t even speak to Mickey in his rookie season even though their lockers were right next to each other. Joe regarded Mickey as a rival and resented him. Mickey was beloved by his teammates. Joe was not.
The other two Yankee Icons were Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Am I correct?
No doubt. You are absolutely correct.
Wally pipp and babe Dalgren
@@robertmurphy440
Never heard of them.
@Jiltedin2007 wally pipp replaced by Lou gehrig ,14 seasons later babe Dahlgren replaced Gehrig after 2,130 games. One must know these things
What about the scooter? 😂
Wish I would’ve seen the Comet play, man
twof four icons- how about five
DiMag was furious that Mantle was introduced AFTER him on this Old Timers Day. He threatened to never return to one again. The next year, after Mantle, Frank Messer introduced Number 5 to the crowd, cryptically saying, "For obvious reasons, we save this next player for last....."
Joe was also the greatest of assholes too
The obvious reason is that DiMaggio was a self-absorbed egomaniac. And I'm being polite.
When Joe threatened never to come back, the Yankees should have called his bluff.
@@gracedagostino5231 No hate. Just facts.
Dude, you are a disgrace. Joe was a WW2 veteran, very patriotic, who lost 3 prime years in his legendary career. You basically quote hearsay as fact, when you never even met Joe, who is a hero to many Americans. For my money as long as Babe Ruth was dead, the announced order should be Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, then finally the legendary Joe DiMaggio.
I like Joe Dimaggio & Mickey Mantle but maybe next time you might consider waiting a little bit longer between changing the slidee. I couldn't really see them & would have liked to have seen my baseball heroes.
Thank you! You can always pause the video to get a better look at the slides.
Can't believe Mick did slug Jerkkin Joe
Wow, why all the hate on such a wonderful video?
I just stumbled across this video. What a great little story that means a lot to a lot of people.
Joe DiMagio was a humorless, jealous self-centered and self important creep who never helped Mickey as a rookie and was not very friendly to rookies, including Mickey. He was jealous of Mickey because he was getting a lot of attention when he came up! He was also partially responsible for Mickey's catastrophic injury to his knee in 1951 when he wouldn't let Mickey handle the fly ball pop up that Willie May's hit!
Wow, why all the hate on such a wonderful video?
And you see why Mick hit 175 more HR than Joe.
Old left field in the stadium ,and military service, kept Joe from hitting 500
Mick also struck out a incredible 2,500 to Joe 350, that is a more important stat
@@robertmurphy440 Mickey Mantle still holds the record for running from home to first, 3.1 seconds.
@@gracedagostino5231 I think not.
@@johnharris8191 Mantle killed more Yankee rally’s than anyone, because what he did most of the time was strike out with men on base. Joe D. and Y. Berra were far better clutch hitters.
Dimaggio should have backed off that catch and let mantle handle it. DiMaggio was a dirt bag
Mantle shoulve helped him with the catch and let dimaggio handle it , mantle was a douchbag.
Yes, especially after Casey Stengel told Mantle to take any fly balls hit to him as "the Dago's heel was bothering him."
Didn't care for him. He thought it was all about him.
