"Rennald" that the memory is speaking of can be met and talked to in Shar's temple... But with the new alias known as Nocturne. You see, Rennald, now Nocturne, is a sildur. Goddess Sharess is capable of changing a mortal's sex with just a kiss. Those who finished transitioning were sometimes referred to in Common as sildur. Gender and sex changing spells in Forgotten realms are common and easy to obtain. In Baldurs gate 1, you can obtain cursed belt that changes your whole sex. This was a thing even in the first and second editions, and everyone was fine with it. Sadly, politics in recent years, left a bad stigma on this topic.
Yeah I definitely get the idea from this game and other DND modules I’ve played in that the concept of gender is pretty casual and doesn’t mean much in the forgotten realms, since there are so many ways to alter self, and also relationships have never been restricted to 1 male and 1 female either. The only place in which gender really matters is probably just Menzoberranzen, since male drow are pretty much just sex slaves in drow society

Is this only available for Shadowheart origins? My Shadowheart won't eat the noblestalk. Also, her best friend, whom we met in the House of Grief, is a purple-haired tiefling but a she not a he. And her name wasn't Rennald as far as I remember.

Just another reason to love Larian Studios. Also, iirc and you give Shadowheart the Noblestalk and she remembers the boy, then you later return to Nocturne when she's transitioned, I believe there's some dialogue where Shadowheart just says something along the lines of "huh, you're a she now - okay" and just moves on with the conversation. It's so great to see. Right wingers losing their collective final 2 braincells.
Shadowheart and the dark urge, because those 2 are the only ones with memory loss (besides the npc dwarf). Luckily I can copy the item and give everyone the mushroom :)
You can convince her in dialogue to eat the noblestalk. But first, put the noblestalk inside a pouch in your inventory and it wont be consumed when she "eats" it. That way you can recover her memories and still sell it to the merchant (or eat it as Dark Urge). Better to sell it to the merchant since she will sell noblestalk in Act 3 that Dark Urge can eat at that point.

it actually didn't really cross my mind that she was a drag queen (the voice shouldve been obvious, i know, i just clicked through her dialogue really fast every time and didn't really pay attention). I actually think Larian does a good job with representation because it's there, but it's normalized and not really in-your-face.
DnD always had this kind of thing, but it was more exceptional or a curse back in the day. Elminster spent years in hiding living as a woman, polymorph spells and cursed items and the like. It is more a sign of "current year" politics and everyones backlash against that than an issue with the fantasy setting in question. Larian really made the game to allow you a lot of freedom with how you do and do not react to different things on many levels.

Having to seek it out and/or play her as an origin isn’t as intuitive to the overarching plot of the game.

Nocturne
The Tiefling in question implies that she's a transwoman, which is why Shadowheart remembers her as a boy back when they were kids.
