The aluminum can be recycled instead of tossing it out. Please recycle it.
Excellent point, thank you! The area we live in does not currently offer recycling, so it skipped my mind to mention that. I wish UA-cam still had a way add pop-up text over a video :( Maybe I can pin your comment instead.
@@FantasiaElegance Thank you for being so great about it and pinning the comment. I really appreciate it!
@@FantasiaElegancesuch a gracious response to that comment. You have taught me more than one lesson today🙏🙌
This was so easy and I can't believe how well and effortless it worked. Thanks for sharing this tip.
That's awesome, Robin! I'm so glad it worked well for you :) thanks for watching and commenting!
Great idea Jocelyn! Not just the ease of use, but also saves the gradual removal of silver from a plated item when using various polishing methods. Thank you for this!
Thanks, Alan! Yes, avoiding polishing with physical methods and abrasive products prolongs the life of your silver, whether it's solid or plated. Definitely a plus for this method!
Thank you!
I've got a ring with 26yrs of blackening (is that a word? lol) I'm definitely going to give this method a try. It might take a few goes to get it all off though :)
You're welcome! Yes, and I would even recommend giving it a scrub first with a soft toothbrush and some regular dish soap. That will remove any accumulated dirt and oil, so that there's no additional layer of stuff preventing the tarnish removal, if that makes sense :)
@@FantasiaElegance thank you, I will do 🙂
This works really well. My reaction smelled like sulphur. Admittedly, I put a lot of items in the glass baking dish, but oh my gosh did it smell!
Wow,the best way to clean silver
That's wonderfully simple and quick, thank you.
So glad you found it helpful! :)
I have used toothpaste for many years and never had any problems it works great
Yep, I like using toothpaste and a gentle toothbrush, too :) One advantage of this method though is that it doesn't remove any silver, like physically rubbing the jewelry will over time. So it might be a better choice for silver-plated items.
Yay. Thank you! It worked!
I love this method to clean my silver, I´ve been doing it for over 30 years, I really don´t like using chemicals that´s in commercial cleaners, can´t remember where I learned this tho...
I´m glad that you shared this easy way of cleaning silver :) 💜
Yes, it's such an easy way! Thanks so much for watching and commenting :)
I have inherited hunders of pieces of jewerly, sorry to say a lot of it is tarnish. I can't wait to get home to try your method.
Awesome! Thank you❤
thanks for sharing 👍☺️
Wow, excellent, that a great trick, thanks for sharing
Thanks, Sarithaa! So glad you found it helpful!

Very helpful. Thank you.
Thanks, Vee! I'm glad it was.
Thank you.
Does this work with brass or copper?
Hi Frani! I'm not sure about brass, but I'm pretty sure it won't work with copper. The tarnish on copper is a bit harder to remove, so you actually need some form of acid, which is not present in this method. One easy trick to clean copper is to actually cover the jewelry in ketchup (yes, really) then let it sit for 5 minutes and scrub clean with a gentle toothbrush and soap + water. You can also use vinegar, but you have to be careful because whatever acid you're using can corrode or pit the surface of the copper if you leave it on too long.
Amazing
I like this technique I think some of the dipping products are dulling.
Plus this is less expensive and less smelly ;)
Hi. I am a regular follower of your channel. Fantastic video. However, I want to know whether this solution can be dabbed and wiped on artificial jewellery wires as well. When I finish doing the jewellery, it has some kinks and some tarnishes. So how to avoid those before wearing it.
Hi Sangeetha! I'm not sure if it would work for that purpose. What kind of wire exactly are you using?
@@FantasiaElegance I use brass wire which is either silver plated or gold plated mainly used for artificial jewellery. I don't think it is "silver" or "gold". The metal stay fine as far as it is not exposed to water or any other harsh liquid. Will the transparent nail polish coat be applied to those wires after finishing the project.
Would this work with any other metal that isn't silver?
As far as I know, this only works on silver. For cleaning copper, I just soak it in ketchup (yes, really) for 5-10 minutes, then wash off with a gentle toothbrush and dish soap under warm running water. For anything (silver, copper, brass) that needs just a surface cleaning to preserve an antique finish, I like to use jewelry polishing clothes like this amzn.to/3fOWMuf or this amzn.to/34YwhPu
@@FantasiaElegance The wire I use has a bit of tin in it, would that work with the silver-cleaning method (sorry that I ask so many questions, I just can't find the answers on google) ?
Now that is one method that I did not know about! Personally, I don't like using the commercial jewellery cleaners. I use toothpaste, which works, but the fine gritty particles can scratch fine silver so thank you for sharing this 😁
You are most welcome! I use the toothpaste method sometimes too, especially if there's physical grime stuck in crevices :)
I had no idea that toothpaste worked too, seems a little bit more messy tho, but good to know :) 💜
@@CrixJoki oh it works really well. I use it for chains and textured/patterned sterling. I also use it for gold, it works just as well to refresh it's luster.
@@sandramccormick8326 Thank you for the tip, I really appreciate it, I don´t wear gold, but my mom does, so I will share that tip with her :) 💜
I know that she will be happy to hear that there´s better options than chemicals :D
@@CrixJoki awe you're quite welcome 😁
Thank you much for doing this tutorial !! A bunch of my favourite earrings and necklaces I made are so tarnished because I haven't been wearing them as much in the last year a half or so. I am going to try this right away !!
I've been using this Methode since a while already and always been satisfied with the result....
Wow... 👍😊... this is awesome to know! I have never heard of this method but I ❤ the fact I can use simple natural items. Thank you SO much for this vid!
I used to use this as a lab experiment when I taught Principles of Chemistry online. Students were amazed at how well it worked.
That's awesome!!
Great idea, thank for taking the time to share this and explain it. Interesting 💗👏🏻😊
You're most welcome, Shelly! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Brilliant - in more ways than one!

Fantastic video!! I have silver jewelry that has tarnished and needs a good safe cleaning! Thank you for sharing 😊
You're most welcome, Kelly! So glad it was helpful for you!
wow! thank you! 64 years old and never heard of that, doing my silver today!
I'm so glad it was helpful, Chris!!
Does this work on coated craft wire?
Hi Louise! This will not work on any coated wires, because the coating will prevent the reaction from taking place (it can't "get to" the metal underneath the coating).
@@FantasiaElegance I tried it out and it worked great! Better on the silver but the craft wire also came out clean👏👍🏻
I have a silver pendant with a pretty intricate design that I cant get into with a polishing cloth. This worked amazingly! Still a bit tarnished but a million times better!!
Tried it, carefully followed instructions. It removed the tarnish but unfortunately also removed quite a bit of the silver plating as well.
Thank you for the tip. I'll do my silver. I've tried other methods, but some times they haven't worked.
This is the way my Grandmother cleaned some of her jewelry
Thanks for the easy way to clean silver!
Great tip!
OMG!!! It works!!!
Wow 😮 easy,
Cheap, and quick ides to clean silver jewellery, thank you so much fantasia
So glad you liked it!
Ooh, I do love a bit of science. Would this work on silver with copper on it? I have a silver fidget ring that has copper bands and the silver under the bands is filthy
Isn't it fun? :) This method should be safe for copper jewelry, but will likely not remove the tarnish on the copper portion of your ring. Copper tarnish is a bit harder to remove and requires an acid and or some physical rubbing. There is a trick for using ketchup (yes, really) for cleaning copper jewelry, which I may do a video on in the future :)
@@FantasiaElegance ooh, would be amazing if you could. I'll give it a try for the silver part. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent! Will give this a try
Totally didn't work
Hey Joel, sorry it didn't work for you! A couple reasons it may not remove tarnish would be surface grease or dirt that keeps the chemical reaction from reaching the tarnish, or if it's not sterling silver, what looks like tarnish may actually be a yellow base metal showing through where silver plate has worn off, for example.
Thank u
