  • One of my favourite things to shop for at a thrift store is vintage silverware! Most of the pieces you’ll find at a thrift store will be silver-plated. Silver plated items are very cheap and easy to find but one thing you’ll need to know is that they tarnish VERY easily!
Adding silverware to any table setting is so charming and creates such an elegant and vintage vibe. It is an easy way to dress your table on a budget yet look so beautifully exquisite.
In this video I'll be cleaning all my silverware using a non toxic method with only salt, baking soda, and aluminum foil. I will also demonstrate the difference of using this non toxic method vs using a silver polish. I have been using both methods for years but will let you be the judge of what you prefer!
    Thanks for watching ❤️

The old silver from India has a yellow/gold hue which I find makes it look so warm and rich. The yellow hue also indicates a higher concentration of silver in the alloy. Good for you.

You're not supposed to leave them in once the tarnish is removed. And rinse and wipe them down after you take each piece out. But love the video!

On video showed the items after the first bath being dunked in clean water and then wiped. They got really shiney doing those two movements.

So i assume you can start with the baking soda and then follow up woth silver polish so youre not using so much polish?

I repeated it with fresh water and fresh ingredients which helped a LOT. Before the second time, I also got into the inlay designed with a soft tooth brush to agitate. I wish they let you post pictures because the end result was outstanding. I didn’t need to use the silver polish at all.

Few months later... Blacker than it ever was

Umm this is a good thing. Real silver is supposed to blacken/tarnish. There is no such thing as non tarnishing silver that is real. Some silversmiths used reduce the silver quantity and add other (cheaper) white metals, but that’s not as valuable for the price you paid.

There may have been some kind of coating on the silver that you can't see, that made it inaccessible for the chemical reaction.

This method totally works. Either there is a coating or it wasn’t silver to begin with.
