The way you keeping upgrading your wood splitters, you may need to re-name the channel to "Splitting with Sandy". That is an awesome machine, and the smile on your face while using it was priceless.
Hi Sandy. A great and thorough review of the Eastonmade Axis. I’m really enjoying my Eastonmade 22-28 splitter with box wedge and attached conveyor… like you, I’m really impressed with the stout construction of the Eastonmade splitters. You will love the conveyor and how it eliminates a touch in the splitting process.
Sandy, you are going to LOVE that AXIS. So happy for you. It is literally a game changer for you. You will see in time. Wishing you the best for 2024!. Cheers!
Hey Gord! After seeing you master the Axis I was pretty sure it was the ticket for me. I’m very impressed with it so far. Thank you for the well wishes and Merry Christmas!
I just found your channel. I live 80 miles from the Paul Bunyon show. For 40 years it was held at Hocking College, which is where I went to school and ended up retiring from there. It was a sad day when our new president let it get away. I watch several firewood channels each day. I used to cut a lot of wood, but I am in my 70's and still cut but not near as much. I was at the Bunyon this year and met several UA-camrs. I ran 2 rounds through the axis at Bunyon. I would have to use it more before I would purchase one. I am sure there would be a learning curve to get comfortable with it. I have done it the other way for so long.
I’m on a rant on my channel about now substandard products from manufacturers that once had a great reputation but where the owner founder is no longer involved. Love that this is not the case with Easton. Looking forward to seeing more on this.
glad to see you got the axis, I think they would be a great splitting machine. You can now enjoy the fire wood splitting. Everyone on UA-cam that has one seems to really like them. good job Sandy, I'm glad for you.
Congratulations on the new wood splitter when you get that in your shop and the log deck set back up in front. Guess you will need your totes on the left side now, but this will make life so easy. I'm happy for you, Sandy.
Hello Mr. Sandy, I hope this new splitter will work with the log deck and splitting right into the totes, placement of the new one under the roof will require you to split to the other side bay, may not be a lot faster, but you will save effort, and that is a big plus
Hi Sandy, take your new log splitter and place it under the main roof such that when you are operating it, you are looking into the structure. This means the totes will be on the opposite side (left). Then take the log deck and turn it 90 degrees (same in metric 😄). This means you will make a quarter turn to your right to cut logs. I would make an inclined trough to allow you to cut your sections, then lower them to the trough and slide them down to the log splitter loader. You could line the trough with those Toboggan Flying Carpet (18" x 36") @ $7.05 found via Zoro. You would have plenty of room on the far right for loading logs onto the log deck. That type of setup would reduce your effort in rolling log sections to the log splitter. What would be nice is if you could activate in incline chute that would take the log sections from the horizontal log deck cut position to the trough, then slide them down to the log splitter loader. Then there would be no lifting involved and you could do this operation for decades to come, and still find it enjoyable. Looking forward to see what you come up with.
Great suggestions there Robert. Thanks for that. I thought long about some sort of a catch system after I use the chainsaw on the rounds but the main issue that prevented me from making something like that was not being able to cut fully through the round for fear of hitting the chute under the log. May just mean I need to refine the idea though. Thanks for sharing your idea. Great points
It is good to see you take advantage of the sponsorship opportunities. I like seeing youtubers who work for it, get goodies. Good work sir and keep it up
@@sawingwithsandy I just ordered a WC88 based on your reviews and your advice on the size. I see the WC68 may be a bit small so I opted for the larger one. I know there is larger but I think this one will suit the offcuts I get off my 130max. Thank you for your work.
You’re going to love the Axis. The Ultra is a nice machine for sure but the Axis is a lot of fun to run. I mentioned you in my latest Ibc tote video after watching your wood processing set up video. I think you’ll like the mod and it’ll work great with the new conveyor. Congrats on the new rig, we love ours. The height setting on the wedge is a key safety feature as well imo we show that in a different video to help keep you from inadvertently getting your hand between the wedge and the round while wrestling large rounds into place. Andrew and his crew are top notch!
I just had a look at that video about your IBC cages. thanks for that! Great setup you've got . I"m really looking forward to getting some miles on this Axis. Right from the start I can tell it's solid!
Happy to see you upgrade. I think you made a smart move on the new splitter. The log lift will be a game changer on your back. That alone will make it worth while.
The first time that I saw the Axis, I thought "What a joke". Then I watched it being used and completely changed my mind. I don't see a really efficient way to use it best in the current Chop Shop. My thought would be to build a new shed that is designed to fit the Axis and the log deck with the room for the IBC cages. The lighter rounds can go direct to the Axis table without using the log lift, while the heavy rounds can roll to the ground and be picked up with the log lift. BTW, the HardWorkingMan gave you a mention on his channel recently. He has come up with a new idea on modifying the IBC totes to make it easier to unload. It is impressive that you ask for ideas from your viewers. Some of the channels always act like they already know the best way to do everything. We all know that there are always new and better ideas out there. It's called making progress. Getting ideas from each other make us all better. Thank you
Hi Mike. Thanks for letting me know about the call out. I do see a new shed may be the best idea all around if I can't get things to work out too well with the new Axis. I do enjoy building structures as well but see how it fits first I suppose. I figure I"m always learning and so any ideas I can get from others I really appreciate
It's certainly one of the best for making firewood pieces exactly how you want them to be. Probably the best machine out there for splitting firewood with lots of knots as well
Hi Sandy. That's a great upgrade. It seems that a production line would fit under the shelter. The part I am not sure about is the place where you cut the logs for splitting. If it had a tabletop with gaps and stops for the cutting and perhaps two sections that could be set under the shelter when not in use, you may not need to buy something as others have suggested. Just use what you have. IBC tote on one side, the splitter backed into the middle and the 2-section table on the right side. At any rate, you will have something that makes sense to you. Have good days!
I would also set everything up like you had before except with the totes on the left side of the chop shop. No real need for the log lift with your log deck right there as it was before. Now getting that in there with the trailering attachment on the backside......
From the front I was questioning the engine being right In line of your fork lift points. Then as you went to the back I see that they are blocked on the back side... very nice.
Congratulations Sandy.. You are going to love it.. Have to a just your process a little but it will get better.. GP has had one from Andrew for a few years at they love it. Congratulations again. Cheers
Congrats...nice machine. Here's what I've done and what I'd do...set it up, run for awhile, move...set it up again, run for awhile....move and set up again, run. Then once you've done all that...move it again....lol. You might be able to narrow down options and choices of where/how to set it up because of the log lift on one side, and conveyor on the other but don't be afraid of things turning into a game of musical splitter locations around the woodyard! Ha! 😆
Hi, great video. On my axis I turned the exhaust up and out. Also I turned the rewind cover to pull from other side so when it starts exhaust isn’t blowing in your face. I have a ultra and axis and both are great. The ultra I can move by hand on job sites when needed, the axis I just leave in the yard.
@@sawingwithsandy Seems like the current chop shop might not work. A simple lean (sloping back) just covering the Axis and maybe the conveyor when it is raised would be a place to start. Make it as long as you can afford to cover in feed and receiving areas on either side of machine.
Think you’re right. My original idea was for equipment and I’ve quickly gotten away from the original idea. Now I’m way off in left field with the new splitter
Congrats on the Axis. It is certainly a great splitter and will certainly make any size firewood you want from even the most gnarly of rounds. I am just waiting for Eastonmade to get their 40C processor on the market. They keep tinkering with it and teasing people with videos of the prototype in action. For setup, I would put it where the Ultra was, conveyor to the left and then put the log bucking deck back. So all you have to do is turn around to grab your rounds and place them on the Axis work table. Ideally Eastonmade at some point, would offer the Axis in a mirror image configuration for those people that would prefer a specific orientation due to wood yard constraints or being left handed.
Good evening Sandy that is a game changer. you will have to switch things around and getting some use to this new way i know you are trying to do least lifting possible i don't have exactly the totally the whole system but if you would make some kind of a table on wheel that would fit between your splitter and the log table have a great evening
I thought you had pretty close to the perfect setup with your 12-22, log deck, and IBC tote filling area. The Axis is a great machine but I wonder if the workflow will end up as smooth? Good luck and thanks for sharing your experience.
Hi Sandy!!😀😀 Congratulations on the new Axis splitter!!! Now you are going to have to split right to left instead of left to right with the ultra. You probably will have to put it in the chop shop with your forks so you are on the right side of it so you can use your cutting table. Witch shouldn't be a problem. Then you should be all set. Enjoy your new splitter my friend!! TTYL!!😀😀💚💚 Logger Al
Good Evening Sandy, I really like that splitter, We may get one later next year ourselves if the funds work out. After you put the sawmill in the shed with a little coaxing I believe you will get this in the chop shop without a problem. (if height of the cylinder is a little to much let the air out of the tires to get clearance, you could pull the pin on the conveyor set aside, position then put back on) then you could put the log rack back and not be bending over to move log rounds, Use the log lift as a table and split to you hearts content. One not of caution don't go under the conveyor while its running it will pull you hat off and anything connected to it... Great machine! John Toccoa GA
Hard to believe you had the ultra as long as you did, time flies by. I watch several other wood channel s that run the axis and I haven't heard one bad thing about it. Hopefully you will be able to keep this one a l8ng time
Hey Mike! Hope you had a nice Christmas. It is hard to believe the Ultra has been around for so long. Is a great wood splitter. I"m looking forward to seeing how this one compares for sure
Congratulations Sandy! You are going to love it. I picked up my 12-22 in November and I am still learning it as you can see if you saw any of my videos.
If you can move the splitter by hand, try lining IBC totes in a row. When the first is full, move the splitter down to the next tote (so you don’t have to fire up the tractor just to move one tote at a time). Only downside is then you can’t use your shelter.
Sandy can line 2 totes up, and simply lower/raise the belt to adjust which tote the firewall falls into. Then swap them out with the tractor and repeat with 2 more. With the log table already up at waist high - not sure the lifting table is really useful.
The "little kid on Christmas morning face" every time a piece goes up the conveyor...🤣. I do like the Axis, but I got the Timberdevil last week myself. Didn't have the extra 15k for the Axis. The log lift is a game changer and makes for a huge work table when the rounds are a manageable size! Looking forward to seeing how you can integrate the Axis into your production!
Seems to me that your log deck is a lot more important to saving effort than the lift. Still there are probably times when that will be handy. In an ideal setup a conveyor to pickup the rounds when they are cut off the log deck to send them to the splitter would make things a bit easier. Given the configuration of the splitter a possible layout would be to put the splitter in going the same direction as you did before and rotate your log deck 90 degrees with a conveyor or rollers to move the rounds down to the splitter.
Lower the blue log lifter thingy, butt it up to your log deck slide full-size log with tractor and split the ends to cut off a chunk, turn that chunk and split it into appropriate sizes and send on the conveyer into tote. Avoids using a chainsaw. Just an idea.
I would put the tongue into the center shed with your quad. then you can put IBC on the left instead of the right and return your log deck to it's original positioning. You probably won't need to put the round lift down, since it will be close to a level lift across to the splitter. The biggest Question will be overhead clearance. Might have to ad a shed roof to get out of the sun and snow/rain onto the gable.
haha hey Todd! GP has the experience on his machine above me but I'll be sure to catch up with him for some pointers. He's got it figured out really well
Move the Axis to under your shelter so you can operate from under cover . Load the IBC cages to the other side and drop your split wood directly into the totes. Move the log cutting jig to be close to the rounds lift to minimize steps. Good luck!
Now all you need to do is place the Axes under roof , move your log table next to and inline with your splitter and line up the totes under that conveyer
I would slow that conveyor down as its wearing things the faster it turns. Another thing that I really don't care for is the polished painted surface that you are holding the wood to be split under that blade. Its slick and can allow a piece to kick out and hit you before you know it. A piece of tar paper with the sandy surface to help keep that wood from sliding when splitting it would seem much safer.
Hey Morgan. Hope you've had a nice holiday season. I think with the Axis as long as the round isn't angled really badly when cut with the chainsaw it stays put pretty well from what I've seen so far. Looking forward to getting some miles on this splitter to see all the things I"ve been missing!
Hey Sandy, that is one awesome splitter. Andrew Easton has put a lot of work into his passion and it is paying off for him in the quality of the equipment he and his team are producing. I would love to have one of these but it is a bit too big for my needs. I know you will enjoy splitting wood with this machine. Happy New Year.
hi there they sure make a nice splitter , had a chance to run one for a few hours at the HOPE house , there is a learning curve , one thing to watch out for in the future is the conveyor chain hitting the tire when set at a lower point . now i am different then everyone else so keep that in mind , get rid of the log lift and put in a table or modify it . log lifts take to much time , think on how you are going to get the rounds to the log lift or splitter . just think if you were to cut the rounds on your bench put them rite into a large tractor bucket then moved the tractor bucket on a table at the axis deck height . no picking up or rolling to or basically fetching rounds from the table or woods , this seams to be something everyone is afraid to do but is the best way in most cases , have you seen any of my videos on the table method , all just thoughts you should do what works best for you . john
Keeping the front of your shed as open as possible . Working off the left side as you are looking into the shed. Conveyor sticking out the left side dropping into toats, that leaves 2 bays open for what ever. Just a quick thought your idea, I'm sure you have it figured out. 😅 👍
Hey there Sandy! Sorry I’m a bit late on my comments but nevertheless congrats on the new upgrade! Curious to see what you come up with for placement within the chop shop / woodyard ! A lot of folks have some great suggestions in the comments 🔥💯👍. I’m on the same page with a lot of folks at placing the axis about the same place you had the ultra but in turn having the IBC totes on the opposite side 💯👍, but I wonder due to the height of the splitter, will it be able to clear your roof cross beam on the way in? Also, I noticed that the axis splitter doesn’t have the reversible drawbar like the ultra, so hopefully you’ll be able to place it with the forks if you decide to go that route 🔥💯👍. Anyway, Sandy, I’m very happy for your new change in the woodyard and at the chop shop! I hope it all works out in the long run for you with your set up. Take good care and we’ll see you in the next one buddy cheers! Andrew from NB :)
Hey Andrew! Yeah the size of the Axis (height, width etc) just made it too much for me to maneuver it into the chop shop. May just have to build another one haha
suggestion to check out recent Out Doors with the Morgan's demo and Australian made wood splitter system its only temporary more to get name of company out for others to see but still interesting maybe some will make one similar and more affordable
Now wouldn't that be an upgrade haha. Eastonmade 60c !!! I better get my firewood logs stockpiled as a 60c would process my year's worth of firewood in a few hours or less
Color me green! Nice machine brother!!! Congratulations! I would keep the good stuff from your last setup. If the splitter sits 90° off the log deck, you can cut and simply turn to your right to place the rounds on the Axis log lift. I don't know how you'll fit the Axis comfortably in the chop shop... we'll find out on a later episode, im sure 😁👍
Mine doesn’t have the conveyor. I use ibc totes. Be mindful of the exhaust. That is the thing I like least about the Axis- it needs to be vented up by the cylinder so the heat and smell don’t choke you in summer. Also watch putting a camera in line with the log lift- I shot a beech log sideways and knocked over a light I had 3’ past the log lift.
ooOOoo Sandy spending some Coin EHHHE I bet Andrew did You right tho. Some good comments on How to lay out the System.. Did he fix the issue with the Log lift Table alignment to the Splitting deck ?? It was lower so the Log caught as it was slid over. Thanks Sandy...
Big thanks to Eastonmade for the chance to get one of their Eastonmade Axis wood splitters here at my Woodyard for some first-hand testing.

So all you have to do is turn around to grab your rounds and place them on the Axis work table. Ideally Eastonmade at some point, would offer the Axis in a mirror image configuration for those people that would prefer a specific orientation due to wood yard constraints or being left handed.
Hey there! That 40c sure is a sweet rig! I've seen it a few times in person now and it's one solid unit
These are good suggestions for the setup. You may not need to use the log lift often.
Good evening Sandy that is a game changer. you will have to switch things around and getting some use to this new way i know you are trying to do least lifting possible i don't have exactly the totally the whole system but if you would make some kind of a table on wheel that would fit between your splitter and the log table have a great evening
For sure. I"m brand new to vertical splitting so taking some getting used to. I like how much control I'v got over the firewood size though
Pretty sweet splitter
Thanks Marc! I must say that it was you who showed me the Axis down in Boonville and that really opened my eyes just how nice the Axis is to work with
I thought you had pretty close to the perfect setup with your 12-22, log deck, and IBC tote filling area. The Axis is a great machine but I wonder if the workflow will end up as smooth? Good luck and thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks Frank. Will be looking forward to seeing how this one works out compared to my Eastonmade Ultra I had
I'm building a vertical splitter now, the dimensions are helpful
Hope the build goes well for ya and thanks for checking out the video
Your definitely going to love the upgrade from the ultra to the stand up Axis.. hurry up and set it up we got some copying to do here...lol 😂
hahah I"ll have another video of the Axis out Saturday if all goes to plan
Truly a lot of good things with this spliter, really like the conveyor, dose the conveyor lower farther down. Congratulations on the new spliter.
Hi Brian, The conveyor pretty much stays right at the 45 degree angle although I could make it a bit steeper.
Sweet splitter! I have used one in the past👍💪👍
They sure are something! I'm really liking the first little bit I've used it. Can't believe how must faster the conveyor makes things
Hi Sandy!!😀😀
Congratulations on the new Axis splitter!!! Now you are going to have to split right to left instead of left to right with the ultra. You probably will have to put it in the chop shop with your forks so you are on the right side of it so you can use your cutting table. Witch shouldn't be a problem. Then you should be all set.
Enjoy your new splitter my friend!! TTYL!!😀😀💚💚
Logger Al
Thanks Al! Will be lots of new content coming up with this Axis for sure. Hope all is well
Someone is liking the the conveyor haha. Nice machine sandy! Merry Christmas too!
I've never used a conveyor and now I know what the fuss is about haha. Merry Christmas Kev!
good video and job really nice i think do it just like the other one you will have to put totes on other side. take care, be safe and well.
Santa was good this year Sandy. you got a fine splitter there. Hope your having a great Christmas And a Happy New Year to you and your family
Thank you! Christmas is going well thanks. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Great safety tip there John. That conveyor could hurt someone for sure if not careful. Hope you had a nice Christmas and have a happy new year!
We had a great Christmas! Happy New Year to you and yours John@@sawingwithsandy
Great machine, excellent choice! Eastonmade: Oh 🇨🇦!
Thanks Mike. Sure is a treat to run this thing
Maybe, as your channel continues to grow, a firewood processor might be in order ! 😉 Andrew has quite a selection as you know.
Love the axis. Great move. Love it
Thanks Jeff!
Sandy just the way it is move it into the chop shop cage on the right side instead of the left side 😮😊❤
Thanks Todd
Congratulations Sandy! You are going to love it. I picked up my 12-22 in November and I am still learning it as you can see if you saw any of my videos.
That 12-22 sure is a nice splitter! Can make a tonne a wood in a hurry that's for sure
@@sawingwithsandy I think we need one of each 😂
hahah
I'm getting one soon for my bundle wood I will pick mine up also
I can imagine this would be perfect for bundle wood with so much control over the firewood size
If you can move the splitter by hand, try lining IBC totes in a row. When the first is full, move the splitter down to the next tote (so you don’t have to fire up the tractor just to move one tote at a time). Only downside is then you can’t use your shelter.
IBC positioning will be key for sure. Looking forward to trying out a bunch things like the one you metion
Sandy can line 2 totes up, and simply lower/raise the belt to adjust which tote the firewall falls into. Then swap them out with the tractor and repeat with 2 more. With the log table already up at waist high - not sure the lifting table is really useful.
Looks clunky I like your last setup the best!
I have one coming 1/15/24 I can't wait!
I got to see them being built at the factory and they sure are impressive all the way along from the raw steel right through to the finished product
Cool tool. I've looked at them, but I don't split enough wood to justify one. Maybe when I win the lottery. Good vid. Thanks.
Thanks for coming along to check out the video
As a fairly tall guy I love the idea of these type of splitters. My back is jealous LOL. Can't wait to see your thoughts in seasons to come.
That was one of the first things I noticed as well. Just how upright I am with this type of splitter
The Axis will be a great addition to the woodyard
Thank you. I"m certainly looking forward to putting some hours on it
A subtle shout out to Boonville NY Yay 😀
Absolutely! Think that may have been the first time I actually tried one
The log lift is a huge advantage for sure when using the big rounds. Up until now I was having to get creative to get those up onto the splitter
Same! Used to cut them in half if I couldn't pick em up whole...😂
Hi Doug. I do find the real big logs that I can't lift even when already up on the log deck is where that log lift really helps as well
I was also thinking about the rollers but make them attached to the front of the table so the can be flipped down when you are chainsawing
Think your'e right there Geoffrey. The overhang will be the big question.
Wow! Thats a great splitter. You and gp outdoors can race. First cord split wins!
haha hey Todd!
Good luck!
Sounds like a good setup. I"ll see if I can make it fit into the chop shop
Looks cold 😮
Bit of a wet day out for sure
Now all you need to do is place the Axes under roof , move your log table next to and inline with your splitter and line up the totes under that conveyer
Thanks Greg. Will be a tight fit
good luck with the splitter going to build a log table great idea blocking wood has always has always been my slow spot
Mine too Ralph. One of my favourite things now is the log table
Thanks Wayne! Happy New Year
hi there they sure make a nice splitter , had a chance to run one for a few hours at the HOPE house , there is a learning curve , one thing to watch out for in the future is the conveyor chain hitting the tire when set at a lower point . now i am different then everyone else so keep that in mind , get rid of the log lift and put in a table or modify it . log lifts take to much time , think on how you are going to get the rounds to the log lift or splitter . just think if you were to cut the rounds on your bench put them rite into a large tractor bucket then moved the tractor bucket on a table at the axis deck height . no picking up or rolling to or basically fetching rounds from the table or woods , this seams to be something everyone is afraid to do but is the best way in most cases , have you seen any of my videos on the table method , all just thoughts you should do what works best for you . john
Thanks for the heads. I"ll have to start scratching my brain here to get the setuip with the log deck.
You get a gift for Christmas and you can't wait to use it lol
Sure is a great unit to have around the woodyard!
Keeping the front of your shed as open as possible . Working off the left side as you are looking into the shed. Conveyor sticking out the left side dropping into toats, that leaves 2 bays open for what ever. Just a quick thought your idea, I'm sure you have it figured out. 😅 👍
Hey Del! I'm still open to all ideas . I haven't got anything pinned down for ideas yet
@@sawingwithsandy yes understood, I’m game for seeing another fun project on the channel if you go that route buddy! 🔥💯👍. Andrew from NB :)
Nice machine, you are going to be able to store it in chop shop, I hope.
I'm hoping to make things fit. I'll have to give a try before long
I think your log deck will work better than the log lifter (use the lifter as a table extension in the up position)
That's a good idea there Frank. Keep the log lifter for the real big ones if need be as well I'd imagine
Starts on the first pull in the cold? I'm impressed.
Yeah seems like a good runner
suggestion to check out recent Out Doors with the Morgan's demo and Australian made wood splitter system its only temporary more to get name of company out for others to see but still interesting maybe some will make one similar and more affordable
Thanks Roberto
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼…………………………………………………………………….Next you will have the big firewood processor. Put a log on the log deck and it spits out firewood ! LOL
Now wouldn't that be an upgrade haha. Eastonmade 60c !!! I better get my firewood logs stockpiled as a 60c would process my year's worth of firewood in a few hours or less
on the smaller rounds keep the two halfs together and turn split both at same time👍👍
Good tip. Thanks Daniel
For sure Sam. I"ve got all kinds of ideas. I may even get ambitious and build another shed
Thanks Chris
ooOOoo Sandy spending some Coin EHHHE I bet Andrew did You right tho.
Some good comments on How to lay out the System..
Did he fix the issue with the Log lift Table alignment to the Splitting deck ?? It was lower so the Log caught as it was slid over.
Thanks Sandy...
Hey there Mike. I haven't had any hang ups with the rounds moving from the log table to the deck to speak of.
Extend the roofline on the chop shop and have the conveyor to the left and put the totes on the list side of the chop shop
The extended roof line may be a good idea! Thanks for that one
Only an off the cuff idea all things considered. A ramp down from your log deck to the axis lifter should hopefully help transfer the cut rounds.
Thats a good idea Dennis!
Hi Sandy
Checkout hometown acres, Adam and Doug made several modifications to his. Enjoyed it
Thanks Richard
