- Time to run so volume through the new Eastonmade Axis. Check out my wood splitting setup as I position the log deck right beside the Axis and how that allows me to limit movement when splitting firewood. With this Eastonmade Axis being brand new to me I've got some things to learn but I sure am liking what I see so far!

Yep, the axis is a great splitter. A couple observations, if you don’t mind. If you lower the conveyor a little, the belt will pick up the sticks a bit better. It will also allow you to shove a whole split round into it at once, and it will take care of the sticks - no fussing around with individual sticks. Finally the edges of rounds that don’t get split can be saved to the right, and when you have two or more saved up, you can split them all at once - a wee bit more efficient.
Thanks for those!
I agree with burkhola. I think that conveyor is a little steep. Also, you might take those totes and start with one one the end with your tractor ready to push the line. That way all you have to do is scoot the three toes down to fill the next one then get right back to splitting. 😁
Yeah there’s some really smart stuff in these comments with a lower angle there’s less bouncing around and a little more even self stacking… a little piece of wood or a mud flap from the truck stop shop dumpster… a cut tire works for a little deflection?
Those are just a fantastic splitter!!! Kick Butt, buddy!!!
If the conveyor could swivel a little then you would be able to fill the all totes without moving the ones that are filled. May be a good project 😉
Hi Sandy!!😀😀
Looking good buddy!!
If you want to get a little faster cycle time from the wedge. Slow down the convayer as slow as possible and the wedge will run faster.
Take care my friend!!😀😀💚💚

Nice Job Sandy! Need to get a shelter over the splitter so you can split in the rain like you did in the chop shop. Would be nice to have a pivot on the conveyor so you could move from tote to tote, you got it worked out thou. Have a Happy New Year! My chipper is due here on Jan 2 2024 Yea! cant wait! John Toccoa GA
Thanks John! Happy New Year
Great job on that video sandy
Thanks for that! It sure is a solid unit and a lot of fun to use
Hey Andrew, You sure hit a home run getting Sandy as an Eastonmade ambassador. Cant' wipe the grin off his face since he got this new toy...oops, tool. Sure is impressive. Congrats to you and your team on this design
Hey Sandy now we really see the difference in between the horizontal and the vertical wood splitter
Thanks for showing the Axis
Thanks for checking the video out. Sure is a nice way to split wood
I know you built the chop shop, but now that you have the layout for the new splitter, I think you might want to think of a small roof just over the splitter and work area. Keep yourself and equipment out of the snow or rain and even the sun while working. The chop shop can go back to be a storage area for equipment, might have to rename the two.
I can tell today you really enjoyed yourself today and looks like you’re going to producing a lot of firewood. Great job and great video.
MM77 Approved 👍🏻👍🏻…………………………………Great setup.
I picked up 3 x roller conveyors cheap off market place used in a warehouse. They aren't propelled, you have to push items along them, but they will be good for incorporating between the log deck like Sandy's to move the rounds to the splitter 👍
I just came in from stacking a bush cord of Ash on pallets and would have loved to have that conveyor/IBC tote setup! That log deck is a thing of beauty, as well. Nicely done!
Great to hear from another firewood person! Thanks for coming along for the video
A little moving rack or a table top to keep the wood on the same height as the splitter table so you can slide your work and not do any unnecessary lifting or cut into your tractor bucket and then drive around behind your splitter so you’re pulling out the wood from your bucket and sliding it across your feed table…
Obviously you’re going to develop a nice little system so you can do the maximum amount of work for the lowest physically taxing process… love you rolling your chunks down the table!!!
Thanks Davey!
A couple things I’ve noticed you can lower an slow the conveyer will help reduce wear. If you separated cages, made a lift on lift off deflector. I think you can load into 2 cages before having to move them. fill one turn deflector fill the other. Deflector bracket would be upside down J hook, rest on the side uses top rail to hold in place may help with distributing wood more even. Good luck, good vid
Thanks for that Bryan
Very nice setup
Sandy, I was thinking about sending you a couple of muscle relaxers just to get that grin off of your face since the purchase of the new wood splitter. Congratulations.
Hahah
Wow, that sure makes it easier. As mentioned on first run I’m glad you explained the wood deck. On a side note look into this amazing spray to preserve your equipment. It’s sheep oil in a spray, so environmentally friendly. It’s called Lanox / Inox / Lanotec depending on country. It’s Lanox here in Australia. You can put in on anything from your boat / car / machinery. I do it twice a year. Stops rusting starting. Great Vlog
Man that thing splits wood fast!
Dad had built a homemade splitter years ago that was horizontal but it had a lifting table and a conveyor. The lifting part was a little different than yours as it could take more wood but the conveyor was similar to that one. He sold it and built another one following the first design. I moved to NB in 2004 and came across a little vertical splitter which I bought did some modifying to it so I could add the table and conveyor which I have to do one of these days. I feel that the splitter is far superior to the horizontal splitter's. When I get it finished I will send you a video. I had planed to build them and sell them as I was so impressed with the design!
Great to see the new Axis addition to your firewood processing
Thank you!
Everyone needs an Axis!!!.. I find that adjusting while it's running allows you to see exactly where the blade will stop.. great video.. looking forward to watching the conveyor idea in action
Yep, I agree with you about having a conveyor. It's one of those things that you get along with for a while but the first time you use one it's every bit "how did I not do this all that time ago?!"
Absolutely!
Great setup and awesome splitter!👍👍
Hello Sandy. I did notice that you did not bend over. I know that you weld, so a directional and adjustable chute that looked a bit like the log lift might work to change from center load to either side load into the totes. At any rate, you will get a lot more done in the same amount of time as before. Your back will feel better making it easier to sleep at night. Great buy! Have good days!
Thanks for coming along for the video! I do enjoy welding. Maybe I’ll rig something up
Awesome splitter, awesome video👍👍👊
Thanks Andrew!
Another great video! I am a retired dairy farmer with a bad back that enjoys doing firewood and burning it in the house and shop. These verticals look like the ticket. I am looking at the Wolfe Ridge also. Live in Minnesota right next to Wisconsin where they are made. How I split now is to have a big bucket on the tractor and throw right into the bucket and then dump in the pile. So for me I think I would go without the conveyor and just slide into the bucket. Your video gets me cranked up again!!The Axis or the Wolfe Ridge would be a nice upgrade from my Wallenstein 540!! Hope you have a great New Year!
Sandy... this new splitter is so much work! You have to push the split logs all the way over to the conveyor, and you didn't have to do that before. Hahahaha... WOW! Although, it IS more work than the old one. How, you ask? You're splitting more wood, and that means... more work. The one thing I wondered about... the angle of the conveyor. If the ramp angle was lower, and 'centered' over the corners of four totes, would it do a better job of rolling off the conveyor into an empty tote? Second, are you going to position it inside the Chop Shop so it's out of the weather? With the conveyor, you could put the totes on the other side from before and position the log deck under the covered roof. I especially like the control you have over what you're splitting. TWO hands on the log... I LIKE IT!!! I'll send an email with my design for rollers on the log deck.
You need your solar power supply down there with a Sludge machine. You really need to hydrate with sludge when you're working!! Happy New Year, buddy........
hahaha
I'm going to have to give that a try Carl with the 4 totes. Think I"ll get out there and adjust the angle of the conveyor just to see how many totes I can fill at once. Keep me updated on those rollers! Thanks for that. Happy New Year!
Wishing you a Very happy New Year, Sandy .
So nice too see that you're equipment is so! Much an more efficient than the old stuff .All the best for 2024 🎉🎉
Thank you Paul! Happy New Year!
Nice splitter! But I really like the convenience of the log deck. It's got to be a back saver.
Me too Steven!
Hey Sandy, this was an awesome video today. Great run through and showcase of how the axis can really be a game changer in the Woodyard.. I’d suggest first thing especially if it’s going to remain in the elements for any length of time is getting an engine cover 💯👍. I think how you have it set up there currently will work good for the most part and you’ll find refinements along the way as you put more seat time in with the axis. 🔥💯👍. As always great camera angles and views showcasing the splitter and all its capabilities 🔥💯👍. Thanks for having us down to the chop shop and as always it’s an enjoyable time! Take care! we’ll see you on the next video, cheers and happy new year buddy! Andrew from NB :)
Hey Andrew! Thanks for coming along for the video. I have a few things up and coming and will for sure have cover over this. For now I"ll probably use a tarp. Thanks again for all your support on the channel! I appreciate it
@@sawingwithsandy always enjoy dropping by buddy! 🔥💯👍
Good evening Sandy that is a good game changer will you try the old wood spliter or are you giving up on that old one ah ah ah still got tricks to learn but only experience will show you that part that is one thing you can not trach you have to inquire it great video showing what you learn and sharing it with other
HAPPY NEW YEAR and hoping you can make a lits of saw dust for 2024 have a great evening
Thank you! Happy New Year! Thank you for all your support over the years!
Looks like a nice set up. Worked good for you. Thanks Sandy Happy New Year
Thanks for that Gene. Hope you have a great new year!
Lol....the smaile on your face the whole time...😁 It really is a great setup for controlling your split sizes......and yeah, you can split a LOT longer with less fatigue. I noticed it in my hands the most.because you're not muscling rounds around it takes way less toll on your body. Glad you're enjoying it!!
That's very true Earl. I find my hands/arms get tired along with my lower back the most so having this setup will certainly help those
Hey Sandy, that looks like too much fun, when you can enjoy work like that it is no longer work, the quality and workmanship in this splitter makes it what it is, an awesome piece of equipment worth owning.
I'm with ya there Wayne! I sure was having a good time running the Axis.
GREAT SETUP! You're really building a great stable of equipment!
Hey, would if?? would if if you placed the first tote closer to you where it drops the rounds as close to the far side as possible. Once filled, drop the conveyor to a shallowest angle to fill the next one. Maybe even ad an additional 2 foot long , hanging, trough that when the conveyor is lowered it will extend over the first tote?
Think this is a great idea. Will be trying it for sure. Thanks very much
I built a similar setup to cut my logs into firewood but instead of the 16 inch spacing to cut in-between on I placed 2 beams for my logs to roll into like a saddle and marked every 16 inches for the cut ...yes my chainsaw does cut into the 2 beaks slightly but it's still much easier to roll the firewood to the splitter ...the 2 beams I peg in place with wood dowels so there is no metal to hit ...I also cut the 2 beams into firewood at the end of each season and replace them with 2 new beams for the next year
That sounds like a great setup
When you want the wood rounds to go into the second IBC could you lower the conveyor a bit that would extend the length toward the back cage ?
Hi Sandy. Santa Claus was very good to you this year. The Eastonmade splitter will save you a lot of work and time.
Hey Jimmer! Thanks for coming along for the video
That is a pretty slick machine and setup you've got going there. You might have another log structure coming up to cover it and return the chop-shop to equipment storage. Good vid. Thanks.
You may be right there. I sure could use more storage space as well
Nice video ! Happy new years
Thank you! Happy New Years!
Dude that thing is the perfect height, take away the elevator, lift & your table & that is still a perfect machine. Good for you & happy new years!
Thank you! Happy New Year!
Looks like another winner as far as a conveyor possibly mount a cable winch in the middle the cable goes over then under back to the front should pull them to you as you winch
That would get the logs up closer to the log deck for sure. Thanks for checking out the video Ronald
Happy New Year thanks for all the videos
Thanks Calvin! Happy New Year
What a great machine.
I'm impressed for sure
Man that’s nice! I imagine a back surgery trade for a 13k splitter is a no brainer. Plus it looks fun as all get out. Thanks Sandy man
+Fuel oil @ $4 a gallon
Hey Terry! Yeah sure am happy to keep the back I’m good shape. Keep my splitting longer I’m hoping
Hi Sandy, I know I mentioned you making a trough under the log deck, but just watching you now, I think you could simple reduce the chainsaw cutting opening to a 3" gap and then that would allow the log sections to more easily slide across the top. Just add a couple 2" thick boards to either side of each gap and your good to go,
Would do the trick! Thanks for sharing that Robert
You could position two firewood crates centering the edges in the middle of the conveyor and get two full crates without moving anything.
For sure. Think that would work well.
@@sawingwithsandy that thing is so fast. You're not even going to be able to use it that much....😀
Looks great you are making a lot of us jealous. I'm sure you will come up with an easier way to move the pieces from the cut table to the splitter. Its to bad they don't make the conveyer swing side to side to adjust to the totes
That dude in Wisconsin has his first vertical model out and it has a pivoting elevator.
Sandy i think that machine is a game changer best of luck.
Thank you! It sure is a unit!
Wonderful piece of equipment. The only thing that gives me hesitation is the price. For my needs ( and wallet ), I liked your previous splitter. But I appreciate how cool your new one is. Super happy for you Sandy! 👍😁
Hey Sandy, maybe if you lower the conveyor down lower you could fill the back basket first then raise it up to fill the front basket.. The over fill on the bak basket would work as a back stop. O r maybe putting a backstop on the center basket and then the splits would roll to the sides. just some funky thoughts.
I like those ideas! Thanks for sharing them Geoffrey
Looks like you've got everything working well. Saving time on one project means more time for other projects!
Super cool and efficient setup 😊
Thank you!
Sandy, I tried to figure out any different way for improvement, but I think you have the best setup there is. Your log deck with the axes, I don't think there is any room for improvement. Nice job. Enjoy
Thanks for that Noel. I'm sure there will be little tweaks and that here and there but for now works very well
Looks like you’re enjoying the axis! I think your ultra is in good hands😂
Nice review of the Axis and your method.
Thanks Hayes!
Nice setup.. good to see you changed the workflow slightly so you are not picking up the block and doing 180 back to the splitter... After about 30 years of cutting wood I gave it up back in 2008 and switched to an alternative heating source.. A decision I don't regret however, had this Easton existed back then, who knows I may still be cutting wood. I was going to suggest you reduce the stroke , however you addressed that at the 14 minute mark. Another thought may be to run the conveyor no faster then required to carry your material away.. My only logic is reduced ware over time.
That's a good point Rick. I'll see about slowing that conveyor down to only what's needed.
Those EastonMade splitters are incredible machines and I wish I had an opportunity to run one. I wonder how it would fare with the wood that I split.
they sure are stout!
Just a little film of water on that deck and the wood's sliding like it's on a air hockey table.
I normally brush away any ice, snow or debris just to keep things clear
Great addition to the wood yard Sandy, and it matches the Kioti..lol I have a small firewood business doing bundles, I have a TS 40 splitter, it works but that one you have is nice! Not sure if it’s worth the price point. I’ll keep watching you and make a decision.
Thanks for coming along Sam. I'll be sure to keep ya posted how I"m finding it after a bit
Game changer like you said Sandy. Happy new year great job.
Thanks Russell! Thank you for all your support over the years!
Another great Video Sandy, Happy New Year to you and the family.
Thanks TJ! Happy New Year!
Sandy you can get more firewood split with the axis now that will be more time for other projects 😮😊❤
Absolutely Todd! I sure have projects galore coming up too
Welcome to the family of Axis owners!😊
And happy new year 🎉!
Hi Dick! Happy New Year!
Happy new year Sandy
Happy New Year Dave!
man that is some slick setup Sandy!!!
youre going to get spoiled...lol
Hahah
From many years of using a converted hay elevator, use four cages and centre your elevator of you can fit them.
Thanks for that Shayne. I"ll give it a try
hi there looks good . john
Makes splitting wood almost fun!
It's got to be one of my favourite activities. It used to be a chore but now I look forward to it
Something you could try. Put four IBC Totes in a square and center them where the split wood falls. You might be able to fill four without moving them. Would love to see it tested. Thanks for the show.
I like that idea Robert! Thanks for that.
I'll be sure to try that moving forward
Your back must feel better with that lift table👌
Absolutely
I like the way that you have your splitter and a log deck set up at the 90 degree angle and seems to me even if you have to pick up a stick at the further end, it's not as bad with not bending over but overall really nice set up Sandy
For sure Jeff. This setup seems to be working well so far. Looking forward to getting more Horus on it
good video and job really nice splitter i would like to have one you will never go back to the other type. take care, be safe and well.
Thanks John. I'm really liking the upright [position so far. Sure is a different setup than what I was used to
That's probably some of the best looking firewood you've had in a while, shame you have to burn it. (just kidding) hope you have a safe New Year's
Happy New Year
Thank you! Happy New Year!
safety stop in front would be good just thinking.
One thing I do like with this machine compared to others I’ve run is once I lift my foot from the pedal, the wedge automatically goes back
I just got home from an out of town job,and am catching up on missed videos. This one got me curious about if you need bar chain oil for cutting these snow covered frozen logs, or is it like cutting logs on the 130 Max in the winter. Happy New Year by the way.
Good question. I use bar oil year round to keep the chain moving nicely over the chainsaw bar and limit wear
My hat's off to you, Sandy. Looks too cold for me to be out there. At 72, I'm finding I have less ability to work in cold because poor circulation in my fingers. I can keep my torso and everything else warm but not my fingers. What is the temperature there during that video? Did a little firewood work today in 40* F temps. A little too warm for the way I was dressed so I had to remove a layer. I enjoy watching these new fangled splitters though I have no hope of ever owning one since I'm only doing firewood for my own boiler. Work safely and happy new year.
Temperature was just below freezing if memory serves me right. Nothing wrong with waiting for the temperatures though. Whatever works best for ya, as long as you're out doing what you love doing.
Hi Sandy, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. Like usual, I have a couple of thoughts and opinions on your videos. First, I was not convinced about vertical splitters, but I also have fallen in love with the size control that they afford you! Everything from large chunks to very small, yet consistent pieces!! And second, I look at someone's idea and think about a better way to do it, but your layout is virtually flawless!! Between the flow of it and the ergonomics of it, I love it!! What about evenly spaced rollers 8 inches apart, giving you 2 per chunk, and a 4 inch setback from your cut line, letting you slide even large pieces to your lift/staging area???
Hi Tim! Those roller ideas sounds great! I may have to see what I can come up with. Thanks for that one
Love the elevator, no picking up the wood to put in cages. So can you arrange it to work with the chop shop like we're before
Hey Brian. Yeah not having to pickup the wood sure is ncie
Sweet machine, my advice to Eastonmade is to put a shroud around the bottom of that conveyor as it is just a matter of time till someone drops a piece of log and then gets a arm or head into the bottom of that conveyor.
Thanks for coming along for the video!
Hi Sandy, Just ordered a pair of those boots. 30 years in military really hardened my feet. Could you still use your splitter in the shop shop? put the totes on the other side. Would have to use forks to put the spitter in there tho. I like the idea of keeping things out of the weather.
Hi Charles! Unfortunately it was so tight of a fit I couldn’t quite make it happen . Was worried about bumping into things
One upgrade I saw made by One Eyed Custom's was to put a metal plate in front of you so that when the wood splits out and comes towards you it doesn't hit you. Your lined up perfectly for a nut cracker if that wood splits out towards you under pressure like from a knot or something. Something to think about. Love your channel.
I haven't encountered any pieces that appear to want to kick out too violently. I think the reason I haven't encountered this is I ensure I'm cutting squarely with the chainsaw when I cut (no leaning rounds) and I also stop immediately if I notice the wedge isn't beginning to split the wood when it initially contacts the wood. I'd be a bit afraid that relying on a metal plate in front of me may make me more likely to take chances with leaning wood pieces. Although I will check it out on that channel
Thanks for the idea Pete. I"ll be sure to have a look see. Happy New Year !
Nice splitter!
Thank you
Hey sandy, I need to build a log deck for my home made firewood processor for the staging efficiency of it. I would encourage you to check out one of my processor videos. I never bend over in the process. I do need a conveyor though for sure. I watched all your videos on the 3 point hitch winch, and then I found a deal on a log skidder I simply could not pass up. For the terrain I have here it is very steep and my concern was that even with the tractor with chains and loaded rears I could do it, but jt would be hard on the tractor.... atleast that is the story I gave my wife. 😉
I'm with ya there. A skidder would be the perfect setup by the sounds of it. Tractors can feel a bit high when on hills and that for sure.
Where did you get that small mount husky bar on the 555? I can't find a small mount husky bar from holzfforma.
As you'd say...it's a beautiful thing ...lol
Sure is Yves haha!
recommend a tarp cover for machine
For sure. I've got one I"ll be using
Easternmade would really impress me if the lift and conveyer were interchangeable
Hi Trevor. Thanks for checking out the video.
Sandy any idea when your beanies will be back in stock? I so want one or 2. Keep up the great work. Love your videos here is PA.
Hi David, unfortunately I"m not too sure when they will be back in stock but it should be soon. Thanks for all your support. Hope you're well!
On the left block peeler…. What is the church of tubing with the bolt in it for? Mine doesn’t have that
It's an umbrella holder
Nicely setup now! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year's bud, could you link the firewood table video that you have there? Cheers 😊
Thank you! Here's the log deck build video ua-cam.com/video/SARIY0qm9Bw/v-deo.htmlsi=56j32rQMM3QwDEHF
Thanks for all your support! Happy New Year!
can you get that splitter under the chop shop roof
Unfortunately it's just a bit too tight to maneuver. Gives me an excuse to build something bigger haha
Can you pivot the conveyor from one ibc container to the next? Rotate it
I think the easiest way to fill different t IBC cages is by adjust the speed of the conveyor and angle of the conveyor.
The conveyor doesn't pivot on the Eastonmade. Wolfe Ridge made theirs with a pivoting conveyor.
Great camera work as always Sandy! This is quite a machine and it does look like fun. Do you use all that wood or do you have it for sale. Just curious. Thanks for sharing as always!
Hey Rich! All this wood will be for me at this point. I’m likely going to sell some depending on how much I end up needing
With the Axis 90 degrees to the log deck, are you going to have easy access to loading the log deck with the grapple on your timber trailer?
I think that access will work out pretty well. I put this load of logs up there with the log loader trailer.
Maybe when the front cage is full lower the convaer it might reach the back cage better but great work all the same
Hi Jasmine! I’ll have to give that a try. Thanks for that
I was hoping you were going to store it in the chop shop so snow would not be an issue.
Unfortunately it wouldn't fit. I"ll have to use a tarp for now and come up with a different plan for the future
@@sawingwithsandy Aww, I was afraid of that.
Nice splitter! To bad the conveyor doesn’t pivot so you can load two or three totes
stayed tuned as I"ve got something coming that will do just that
@@sawingwithsandy
That’s awesome!
With your log table and the ability to load three totes you may have to put something on your log table to hold more logs!
Nice equipment your getting!
I guess your going to have to build a pole barn big enough for your splitter! I’m happy for you! 👏🙌
Doug over on One Eye Customs did some mods on Hometown Acres Axis you might find interesting!
Sandy that machine is very fast and may be you could get some more coffee time what do you think .
Haha I like that way of thinking!
