Volvo is one of the last manufactures to offer station wagons in the USA/ Station wagons offer many advantages, so you don't need a big SUV

I agree. I had to help move my sister across country, with my wife and 6 months old. I was able to load everything in our Mazda 6 wagon. We couldn't even put half of it in her Saturn Vue

My daily is a 2005 V70R. It's such a great vehicle. Biggest gripe is the turning radius. It's horrible. Pickup truck bad. Mine needs some work before I offer it up to you for review.
But 300 HP Turbo 5 cylinder with AWD in a well-proportioned wagon is such a treat. It pulls very well and handles great. Everything is built so well. Just have to deal with the quirks of having a 20 year old European car.

Funny because my C30’s turning circle is also really bad

The V in V70 stands for versatility. So yes, you nailed it in your summary. I love these cars.

I was a teen in the 90s, and I aspired to someday have a Volvo 850 wagon.

My daily driver is a V70 2.4 NA, makes 170hp and with the 5-spd manual it's a really nice car. This car is of the "classic" type which is the last model year of a generation of cars, so it is model year 2008. Just over 100,000 miles on mine and other than regular maintenance and stuff you would expect, it's been dead reliable.

    1:29 - And GM, which put a 5-cyl in Colorado/Canyon/H3T.

Audi as well. They still have a 5 cylinder engine (it's probably the last modern 5 cylinder engine left) in the RS3.

@damilolaakanni He mentioned VW and I just grouped Audi under that umbrella.

Ford, Mercedes, and Acura have also experimented with 5 cylinder engines

05 XC70 wagon owner here - great video! Very rare V70 by the way. Also, the front passenger seat folds down for even greater storage capacity

If I were to get a wagon, Volvo would be at the top of my list.

These were cool because they could range from a utilitarian car to a luxury car based on how they were spec'd. I had a non-turbo with cloth manual seats in college and it was near Toyota levels of reliable. On the flip side you could get the V70R with 300hp, AWD, and active suspension. Obviously way more exciting but you'd need to spend thousands on maintenance each year. Modern-day volvos have gone so far upmarket that they don't make a single car that's reliable, utilitarian, or affordable anymore (at least in the US).

I rented a mid range xc90, and I wouldn't say it was exceptionally luxurious. Any loaded mainstream brand would be as nice.

It really does have that toyota durability feeling for sure. I trust that its gonna start up and get me where i need to go every time i turn the key.. leaking oil, occasional transmission issues and random bouts of rough idles included - i just trust it.

My folks had an XC70 from the same year - the cross country version, with AWD and a raised ride height. It was a great car.

I drive a 2001 V70 2.4T 190hp and you summed the car up very well! It can be sporty and fun, it can be quiet comfortable and luxurious .. it can be a workhorse, a transporter or a weekend warrior. I got it with 180,000 miles almost 3 years ago and today its about to click over 230,000. I have loved every trip in my V70! The p2 body style is getting cooler by the minute if you ask me.

These are so nice! I have an 03 s80 as my daily I’m restoring that has the lil wipers for the headlights. I’m looking to get a Volvo wagon to pair it with. Great cars but definitely expensive when things need replacing
