  • There are so many videos on UA-cam that show resin being used, and a lot of these are not giving good advice. I decided to make this video: All The Things I HATE That Resin Artists Say and Do. To go through the 7 really important things I think you need to know before spending a lot of money on resin and before you put your health in jeopardy. If you are interested in using resin, then there are a lot of methods it can be used to give great results, male you some extra money and also ensure your safety.
🎥 Here is the list of videos that show these areas in more depth:

Steve if I could have hit the thumbs up at least 100 times on this one I would, you give good straight forward advice. Every one of your videos gives some sort of first hand advice from you. I bought my protection gear before even purchasing any resin thanks to you, ok I feel a bit daft wearing them, so I have just taken to humming the theme from Star Wars while wearing them lol. I have to write just about everything down, I have my tips and tricks in a folder that I always check as Im using resin, my problem is I have to conditions and one autoimmune condition that gives brain fog, so in the time it has taken me to type this I have forgotten the resins you mention, I don't suppose it would be possible for you to make a list of best to use what for and what you can add to it. I know you are busy and that's a big ask and Id be so greatly, but if you can't I understand, Ill just have to keep the video repeating till I write things down lol, Id be as well to give up I think lol. Thanks for this. Big hugs X Ann x

      Brain fog freaking sucks hard.
I have fibromyalgia and occasionally I get it. it just makes it hard to move, function, get what someone is saying, process what you need to understand etc.
I'm lucky in that I rarely get it for no reason but I do get various amounts of it if I've been out & about overdoing things. Especially when I'm in a lot of pain.
But honestly I really really wish he'd do a nice cheat sheet for things like this.
Even if he chose to put it in the members only area I'd join just for that at $4.99 a month.
Well that & it's easier to contact him for advice, ask others things & so on. I'm seriously thinking of joining & I never have the urge to join channels.
You know I don't even think there is a truly comprehensive list of the various resins & what they should be used for. Especially one that considers the non toxic art resins that are finally out there.
I had to wait 2 years for more beyond ArtResin to be developed because ArtResin was too expensive.
Having one from Steve you'd know it was thorough & included all of the safety information that's needed.
Plus he'd probably provide a convenient link to everything on it.
Very convenient that he does that in his videos & it helps reward him without costing you more. But mostly very very convenient.
Yes I've bought stuff through his links.
Good luck writing it all down.

@@Nirrrina hi Fibromyalgia is one of the things I have, plus CRPS, hypothyroid, arthritis, glaucoma, heart problems and the list goes on, so you see why brain fog gets me!! I’d love to become a member of Steve’s but to be honest I can’t afford to pay that every month, I already support someone I’ve known on here for about 12 years. If I manage to write it all down I’ll let you know. Hugs x Ann x

Thank you for putting this together, what gets to me is that when talking to fellow resin artists about wearing PPE their comment is my resin says no VOC’s and smell so they don’t bother with the mask , my advice is alwayswhen you add the 2 parts together a chemical reaction takes place producing the toxic fumes.

Because of your wonderful safety video I purchased my safety gear before allowing any resin in the house so thank you so much for that x
I recently sent a message to someone who specialises in fabric and quilting and was demonstrating putting resin on fabric she was not even wearing gloves. I sent a polite message saying it was a little irresponsible not to wear safety gear as resin is toxic. I had a very long winded reply saying that because it was such small quantities it was perfectly safe. The people she was showing this too were fabric crafters and may be unlikely to check safety out - I did what I could.

I love you, Steve, and your channel. You are so right about the people that don't wear PPE. They don't do voice overs, instead say they "usually wear a respirator, " but never do, and, " want us to hear them." I also have seen resin artists now coming forward with horror stories of their health problems. Please wear a respirator, there are smaller ones if you feel "bulky."

I truly would be one of those people that would just have a window open and that's it, no mask, no eye protection, and definitely no gloves. Thank you for your public service announcement. And actually even you just saying it probably wouldn't have done it for me really (I don't think) but you showing that picture of yourself from a few years ago after you first started with your allergic reaction, that's the proof of how serious this is.....and then to know that you suggest we even tuck our long sleeve shirt into our gloves and shower after crafting!....When I do start my resin fun, I will definitely use your PPE warnings. Thank you 💜

I was diagnosed with chronic type 2 respiratory failure😢😢 and told that being exposed to the resin was most likely the main cause I have never smoked, didn't have any respiratory problems befor.
I never saw anyone using protective items ,I still have the after effects but it could have been so much worse .❤Anji

As a retired analytical chemist , it bewilders me when people don't wear any PPE.
There are some really nasty chemicals in epoxy resin , many of which had to be placed in a fume cupboard to use.

I want to say I truly love all of your videos that I have seen, and I look forward to seeing each and every one of them. You give so much good advise and information on the subject of resin. I love how thrilled you get at finding a new way to use your resin.
I am a professional polymer clay artist for over 25 years now and I didn’t think I would ever see another crafter that loves the products they work with as much as I do, but YOU are one of those people and I love it.
Like you, I have tried every brand (for me it’s clay) and every product associated with it. Like me, it seems like you want to know which products work the best. The fact that your not afraid to try them all is wonderful.
I love doing mixed media projects (as I can see you do) because I believe we are only limited by our own imagination. We need to try new things to find out what not only works well together, but what kind of new and interesting things we can create. Have you ever tried putting a polymer clay sculpture together with resin? I’m sure there are so many wonderful things that can be create putting these two things together. I hate to say it but I have not had a chance to do as much as I’d like to with my polymer clay and resin. Most of my experience is with UV resin, this is why I love your channel so much. I never realized that you could combine UV and regular resin together in a project to create different effects. So thank you for all of your wonderful info on resin. I look forward to your next video. Take care, Dee😊👍

I’ve seen people with no PPE making resin items in videos and couldn’t believe my eyes. Your story supports my concern and the irresponsibility of some resin UA-camrs.

Heyy, Steve, just want give you a massive thank you for your very informative and funny videos. I got into resin craft as a way to escape the everyday trials and tribulations and I've got to say, you've kept me sane. I suffer quite badly with depression and just hearing your cheery voice makes my day. Anyways, enough flaff,, I love all the experiments you do with different mediums, who would've thought about using ketchup or mustard lols, keep up the good work lovely one 🤗

Thank you for this video. There is so much good advice here. My first experience with resin was in sealing my art work. I admit I had no idea what I was doing. I had two beautiful (if I do say so myself) pieces of art that were companion pieces and both have a good deal of white negative space. One piece still looks great, but I ran out of resin before I got to the 2nd piece. I was trying to buy my resin locally and apparently bought a different brand. The second one still looks okay as long as you don't put them side by side (as they were intended) because the resin has yellowed. I wish I had kept a record so I would know what brand not to use again. I am also appreciative of you introducing me to using the long-neck lighter. I have a torch but was always uncomfortable using it, and it is extremely hard to light and keep lit. Thanks to you and some other U-Tube artists I've branched out using resin for several different things. I now dress in my hazmat suit when I use regular resin, but I do have a question. Do I need the mask/goggles when using UV resin? I always wear my nitrile gloves. I have seen your video about the different types of resin, but I hope someday you will compare some of the brands. I still try to buy locally when I can, but have found the only place I can get JDiction is on line. Thank you again for reminding us of the safety issues. It's so easy to cut corners when you're in a hurry.

I am so glad i saw your ppe video when i first tried resin, as i did it with my 11 yr old granddaughter who already has eczema and asthma, i would have been horrified to find i had made it worse. Its a faff getting ready but she loves what we make and of course she is never left alone with it, she loves your experiment videos and sees the process as science as well as craft, which i think is great.x x love your vides x x thank you x

Thanks again for the PPE info! I can definitely relate...I used to do nails with gel polish and got contact dermatitis. I now use PPE Whenever I'm working with any chemicals.

I've just got back into jewellery making and finding your videos extremely entertaining, vibrant and informative... Reminds me of the art shows I used to watch when I was little! I haven't started to use resin yet, but all those videos I see on UA-cam make it seem super safe and glam to use. I mean, even the name resin makes it sound pretty benign; I didn't realise it was a plastic based industrial chemical! As someone who is sensitive to chemicals (I even have to be weary of certain glues!), I will plan a bit before considering getting into resin myself.

I am new to resin and had flash curing because I thought I was using the right resin in the right mold--I wasn't and I needed to use the deep pour resin. I also watch all your videos and have learned so much. Thank you--thank you
