@@roboticvenom1935 the previous gen m240i has much better styling. I have one and an f80 m3. I tend to drive the m240i twice as much. You don’t sacrifice much over a full M model. If the looks of the new gen m240i are a deal breaker I definitely recommend the old gen as a great used value.
Also- don't forget that the M2 Comp has the detuned version of the S55 from the M3... if it simply had the M3 tune, the difference would be far greater as its top end is purposely neutered.
For roll racing, you want to keep it in Manual while "staging" in the lowest gear possible. Then once you accelerate, switch to Drive so the car automatically upshifts. That's the best way to race from roll. When you introduce manual upshifts, or wait for automatic downshift to happen, you are not going as quick as possible.

The ability to upshift/downshift only comes into play in a circuit track situation, where the driver can see and anticipate the downshift before entering a corner, etc. For drag racing, or in this case roll racing, it's only one way up. Best to pre-stage the gear in manual, then let the car's perfectly tuned upshifts take care of the rest.
I'll add this. How you test, depends on your objective. The method that I mentioned above, is the quickest acceleration. So if you are testing this, you are simulating a race. If the test would focus on "real life" benefits, which would be sudden acceleration on the highway scenario (merging, passing, etc). For that test, you might want to leave your transmission in the comfort setting, and then just hammer it. This is when factoring in the downshift speed of the transmission matters. But if I am actually racing someone, you better believe my gears are already set to the lowest possible. CarWow does these tests properly, and exactly why they run two different parameter of roll race tests.

At any speed above a launch, the M2 shows its obvious 400 lb weight advantage, the better DCT tranny and a 20hp upside... the real question is which one feels purer and more fun to drive... also which one can be beat on day after day on a track and not skip a beat?
m2 obv more fun, but if you want that route Cadillac is clapping them, just compare the m340i vs ct 4 v blackwing, it's a slaughter, CT 5V blackwing is similar story, and is even beating M5 CS which costs 50% MORE.. sad..

Basic law of physics, more power you have the faster you’ll go, give or take 1 or 2 things such as all wheel drive etc. that’s why rolling starts or even better, race track laps are more accurate in assessing cars for the better.
I just had a lot of cars back-to-back on autocross. The Hyundai Elantra N consistently had better times than M240i. This weekend I am driving every M car, and i4 (for 5th time) and iX for first time.
I want to see a tuned 240 against that M2 competition. No engine mods, exhaust, nothing...just some lines of code, por favor :) It should be very fair given the lack of a turbo and the fact that it's not a proper S-series M engine.

M2 isn’t a drag car. Take them round a track and it will walk the 240i as well. Also that m2 comp has the s55 m4 engine. Soo a. 500 tune would totally destroy that 240i. And my god does that m2 comp look 10x better 😍
Appreciate the video, but I never understand why this video couldn't be made with more accuracy since it wasn't a live shot. The M240i clearly got a head start in the first dig, and the race should've been restarted. It simply is not accurate to include this in the footage when the title of the video is clearly comparing the power between the two.

The m2c is better and faster in every way but honestly having b58 440 the engine and zf are seriously impressive. For average person a used "m-lite" is a proper buy over a full on M car. Easier to say you dont need an M if youve had a bunch of them vs someone thinking "o fuck i wish i got m3 over 340i but m3 was so expensive". Really these new bmws with b58 are way more than you need on public roads. Think just a few years back with e92 m3 (ya thats a more raw car ik) this m240 would stomp it.

Both cars have identical trap speeds stock on stock. Why do rolls in drive mode and not manual? The M2 is getting literally a jump advantage in every acceleration, because he is pressing the gas earlier. That's pointless. Put it in manual mode and go. The ZF8 is honestly better than any dual clutch all day long.

By no means is the 2022 M240i “light” 😏 Cars have gotten very FAT over the years, the norm used to be 3,300 to 3,400lbs Seems like from 2007 onward, cars just 300-400lbs and nobody batted an eye. I keep my 96 Corvette for this very reason LIGHT WEIGHT No matter how wide these new tires get to make up for the added weight, people who drive true sports cars like the Vette or 911, will be able to tell the difference.

M2 looks stock to me. The m2 done very well from a dig as it has wider and better tyres from factory ( they look like the Michelin Pilot sport 4s) From a roll it also dominated because the kickdown in the m2 is very strong and has more power and is lighter. If the roll races begun locked in gear manual mode. It would of been closer but the m2 would still win

Wish it would’ve came out a little earlier so I could’ve test drove it. Also got mine without the dealer markups and with decent discounts. Out the door, paid 58k for mine last year

My 2018 340i 4 door awd weights in at 3650 same aengine same drivetrain. By no means is 3800 pounds a light car. E92 m3 was 3500 pounds with a big old v8. The b58 is an aluminum block,. Cars have increasingly gotten heavier over time but that doesn’t raise or lower the scale for how much a car weights. A coupe is suppose to be fun, nice and light to drive.I know that. The 240i isn’t an m2 buddy, do U even know which engine goes in an m2 or 40i? U won’t find a light car with awd 6 cyl any more, that criteria is too much ur asking for too much. Sad part is it seems that the new G87 M2 will be the same story. Detuned S58 around 450HP vs 500 on M3/4. And the DME is still locked so no tuning.

If you make sure the gear selection on your dash says "S#" the car will shift for you. If it says "M#" then you have to shift yourself.

Appreciate the video, but I never understand why this video couldn't be made with more accuracy since it wasn't a live shot. The M240i clearly got a head start in the first dig, and the race should've been restarted. It simply is not accurate to include this in the footage when the title of the video is clearly comparing the power between the two.
For the price difference, you drop on the M240i an Intake, bigger turbo back exhaust + a tune and bye bye M2.

In total, excluding insane gas prices, it costs around 1700 a month to operate a 22 M240 with most of the options put on it, with M performance parts
Keep in mind, I locked my APR in back when interest rates were low. I also got a loyalty discount as well. If you go for the same spec, you’ll be def paying somewhere around the $2000 a month end for this car

@@SamCarLegion Audi RS3 is lighter, with Quattro and even has 4 doors with more horsepower. 3800 lb is quite heavy for a small 2 door coupe - that is typically the weight range (if not more) of a small SUV. You are the first person I've seen who thinks that is actually light for this class of car.

The m2c is better and faster in every way but honestly having b58 440 the engine and zf are seriously impressive. For average person a used "m-lite" is a proper buy over a full on M car. Easier to say you dont need an M if youve had a bunch of them vs someone thinking "o fuck i wish i got m3 over 340i but m3 was so expensive". Really these new bmws with b58 are way more than you need on public roads. Think just a few years back with e92 m3 (ya thats a more raw car ik) this m240 would stomp it.

Both cars have identical trap speeds stock on stock. Why do rolls in drive mode and not manual? The M2 is getting literally a jump advantage in every acceleration, because he is pressing the gas earlier. That's pointless. Put it in manual mode and go. The ZF8 is honestly better than any dual clutch all day long.

No sir, completely stock. I just warmed up the tires very well by drifting, had a great reaction time (race 2), and lowered my launch control RPM by 500 (race 2).
M2 looks stock to me. The m2 done very well from a dig as it has wider and better tyres from factory ( they look like the Michelin Pilot sport 4s)
From a roll it also dominated because the kickdown in the m2 is very strong and has more power and is lighter.
If the roll races begun locked in gear manual mode. It would of been closer but the m2 would still win

Personally, I’ve never liked Cadillac styling at all, specifically the rear end, it’s just not my thing. But I’m not faulting the car, I think it’s a hell of a beast. Wish it would’ve came out a little earlier so I could’ve test drove it. Also got mine without the dealer markups and with decent discounts. Out the door, paid 58k for mine last year
Best ever M240i? Nah....the rear quarter deck and tail lights are ....well let's just say they aren't nice and leave it at that. Too bad because the front looks cool and agressive....Butt ugly? LOL! The New Nissan Z is much better looking, has more power, is available with both manual and automatic and .....costs about half the price of this car when optioned out.

My 2018 340i 4 door awd weights in at 3650 same aengine same drivetrain. By no means is 3800 pounds a light car. E92 m3 was 3500 pounds with a big old v8. The b58 is an aluminum block,. Cars have increasingly gotten heavier over time but that doesn’t raise or lower the scale for how much a car weights. A coupe is suppose to be fun, nice and light to drive.I know that. The 240i isn’t an m2 buddy, do U even know which engine goes in an m2 or 40i? U won’t find a light car with awd 6 cyl any more, that criteria is too much ur asking for too much.
