First of all, I have to say I really enjoy your content, your video essays are the best Arsenal content on this platform so keep going, you deserve every success. However this might be your worst opinion. Tomi IS starter level (gazillion times better than Zinny and more consistent than White for me), with the right level of confidence and fitness, he could be the best fullback in the world (I said could). He is two-footed, insanely versatile (RB, LB, CB), an insane defender of every situation (1v1, aerial, high line...) as well as, in my view, very good in attack (on the sample of the 21/22 season where he had reached heights I had never seen since Ashley Cole for a fullback). All that makes him an invaluable asset than none of the alleged "superstars in the making" Diomande, Scalvini, Frimpong could possibility match in the short term (or ever). He fits the right age profile, has the best attitude, is close to reaching his peak and is shockingly underrated. He even started doing the inverted role very convincingly this season. If he can maintain his fitness, I genuinely believe he is TOP 4 most important/best players in this team. We have other possible money raising sales in these positions/department in the short term that would give us almost the same amount of money (with Tierney, Kiwior and possibly Zinchenko), because let's face it, the sale of Tomi wouldn't amount nowhere near enough what he is really worth (about 80M+ in this crazy market), with him being criminally underrated and suitors unserious. Let's not forget we are blessed in depth for these positions (Timber, White, Zin, Tomi, KT, Kiwior?) and the players I mentioned before should be the only ones considered for sale (with Cedric being undesirable even in League One). I hope this reasoning makes sense and looking forward to your next one ! COYG !
I dont have as high thoughts as you, but I agree in principle. I think Tomi is turning out better than Zinny and potentially more solid than White. If Tomiyasu gets just a little better at attacking, he would be versatility monster. Such incredible insurance you need if you want to go for both a league and CL title.
I value tomi over white. White can play RB, CB and DM. We have cover in DM and CB if either of them go. Tomi can play LB CB and RB. We do not have cover in either LB or RB if white or tomi would go. I value only risking one position over two. Also I think White is better overall for us but the way we have set up against better teams shows a role for tomi that I haven't seen anyone in arsenal or anywhere else do where he's basically just a roamer. I think he was the reason we beat city and I'm not gonna sell that.
Thanks for the good discussion. The Tominator could play anywhere along the back four and he has been used as a specialist to neutralize quality threats from the wing position. No deals for Tomi until this season is over, but if the price right, a transfer has to be considered. If Tomi is happy in the swiss army knife role, great. But if he wants more regular football, we have to love him enough to let him go.
I think Tomiyasu is worth 75 + it would be stupid for Arsenal to think about selling him when we got a good thing why would we throw it away. And that's from the head not hot
I fucking love the utter depths and nuances that this channel goes into when answering simple-sounding questions. Of course the answer is no, but then by the end of the video I’m like, hmm, he’s got a point. Great, constructed arguments. Imagine Lee Gunner answering this: “Selling Tomiyasu? Levels mate. What about buying Tomiyasu? The standards of this club. Dead manager” The end.
Same with city, cancelo wanted to leave so did Fernandinho, aswell as zinchenko. These players weren’t forced out Liverpool and City just had to react to what their players wanted, arsenal don’t need to sell tomi he’d be happy to stay so why create more headache. If saliba or Ben white get injured tomorrow he would fill
Who else can play 3 different positions from RB, CB, LB as good & consistent as Tomi? Selling him for even 60M, you will need to buy 2 or 3 players to do the job that he can do. Not for Sale
The thought this made me have is that the best course of action would be to keep Tomiyasu, but sell White. I feel like you can find a ceiling raiser on White. But keeping Tomi, as he can play all across the back four and is obviously quality, seems sensible.
Yes, selling White or Zinchenko instead would make more sense to me. Of course it depends on price, but I dont think the offers for Tomi will reflect his value. Like City got their money worth for Zinchenko, Sterling, Jesus, Palmer. Selling one of them for good money would be great.
I think you’re forgetting how versatile White himself is.. just because you’ve only seen him in RB and CB positions doesn’t mean he can’t play elsewhere. Don’t forget that he hardly has bad games. Arteta seems to love versatile players because it helps with the rotation system we play. Players constantly rotating and switching positions makes it harder to play against us. I wouldn’t sell anyone in that defense unless it was an instant obvious ceiling raiser.
Arsenal fans are short sighted, so what happens when we sell white and tomiyasu gets injured, who is good enough to come in and replicate both white and tomi, defensively and offensively, timber? It would be too much in timber since he's expected to sometimes play at LB, so if something is broken...
@@jacobalexander4167 The point is that finding a ceiling raiser is easier for our White than a floo raiser for Tomiyasu. The idea is that we would play someone better at right back, ideally a Rice quality player. (think of the upgrade from Partey to Rice, from a very good player to literally top 3 of his position in the world)
you have to consider how young he is. Defenders rather peak close to their thirties. I think he has the perfect profile for a modern full back: Body and 1 on 1 ability like a centre back, but good on the ball and comfortable to invert. He might not have the creative output, but in a 2-3-5, which pretty much always is our attacking shape, is is a solid part of the 3 deep midfielders. I think there is a good chance that he can become one of the best on his position and it would be devestating to that happen at Bayern. Our 1st team defence is not gonna be fit forever (just like right now) he will get more than enough game time to improve even more.
Alex, just letting you know that your work is really second to none. Always thought provoking presentations that by the end of the video you walk away with much more to consider than when you started. Excellent at what you do! Appreciative!
Why would Arsenal sell Tomiyasu in a situation where both parties are happy. No reports suggested that Bayern are going to spend 50-60mil on Tomi. They are probably looking for a cheap deal. If you want to find extra funds, sell Partey, Tierney, Nketiah etc.
Didn't we alrdy buy a ceiling raiser in thisish position in jurrien timber?? An unlucky injury like this is why tomi's sale isn't prudent. But yeah what bout jurrien
I wouldn’t sell for anything less than 80 mil in January. He’s so important, can play any position across the back 4, and with the injuries we have had we need to have him available. However, in the summer we will hope to have timber back, and I think Kiwior has a higher ceiling than tomi. Any serious off should be considered so we can reinvest in the squad. Love him to bits and he is so important for the title run this season but I don’t think he’s unsellable
Club does not want to sell, player does not want to leave. Case closed. Personally, he is the second most important player in the defence after Saliba, above Gabriel.
Open to any discussion around improvement but i don't think this is a robust argument whrn considering the type of money we'd actually get for Tomi. I get the point when applied more broadly though.
Tomiyasu for me is one of the best defenders itw... Good vision, passing, controls, plays with both foots, hes good on the air, amazing on tackles, good decisions... Just play him as Central Defender in a 4 / 3 defender line. For me the best posible is: Zinchenko Tomiyasu Saliba & Timber (or White)
He's contract situation could be a reason why clubs are sniffing around. We tie him on a longer term contract, I see pontietal suitors looking elsewhere. So Tomi moving will be a question of how much arsenal value him(what so of contract they are willing to offer him) and how happy is he with his current role
4:30 bayern does have that sort of network, if there is someone better, they'd know and go for him instead. Buying a player is always a risk, they might not fit in at the new club like they did the last one, Tomiyasu does. Find the replacement, test him, then sell.
Is our ceiling that high? GK, LB, Left No. 8 and CF positions are definitely not anywhere close to a ceiling. Plus in terms of raising the floor (our subs) we need a RM and right No. 8. So we have at least 6 other positions I'd rather fill first. Albeit, an improvement in Havertz and Vieira could reduce the need for no.8s.
I'm so glad Tomiyaso is in the Arsenal team. The guy is no nonsense, solid, built like a brickshithouse and versatile..... I rate him alongside Saliba, Marghales, and Rice as being that absolute Steel impregnable Spine that no other team can fuck with.... However.......... Money talks, and if a top flight team are willing to part with STOOPID cash for his services.......we shall see. For now, in recognition for what he brings to the team, i hope he'll be rewarded with a HANDSOME contract from Arsenal...
You also have to keep in mind that merchandise sales in Japan have probably gone up significantly. This will also be taken into account before selling the player.
The thing with Tomi hes good with both feet and can either play as left or right Wing back and CB…also hes a tall strong lad, good team player who knows the system…considering all that there is no way he can leave in January. If Saliba or Gabriel gets injured he can easily replace them and rotate with White and Zinchenko depending on opponent and tactics…hes too versatile to sell in Jan. Definite NO
My only argument is this: Selling him when he's finally starting to click is the biggest mistake imo. New guys will have their own adjustment period which will affect our overall chemistry.
The guy is ambidextrous and can play all 4 positions of defence at a very high level. It is a unique and an excellent profile for a player trying to achieve a long run across multiple competitions. Definitely KEEP.
Tomiyasu isn't a defender - he's a Swiss Army knife. Right now, should anything happen to White, Saliba, Gabriel or Zinny, Tomi would plug that gap. He's unique in the squad that he could play anywhere across that line and the drop off would be minimal. I'm not saying there wouldn't be a drop off but we're unlikely to be able to replace that combination of versatility and quality. Imagine if Bayern had bought him at the start of the season - then the Timber injury arrived. We'd be one injury away from disaster and having to play all 1st choice defenders in every game. That didn't work out in the latter stage of last season and it wouldn't work now. Is there a price I'd be prepared to see him go for? Yes. In January? Not a chance.
Agreed. He is the best substitute defender for covering up any injury in the backline in a game. He's too solid. If he played for someone else,we all would've appreciated him even more.
There’s no player available in Europe right now who can replace Tomiyasu. You’ll need to buy minimum 2 or 3 player to replace what he offers Mikel Arteta right now . HES DEFINITELY SIGNING THE NEW CONTRACT.
Kiwior is a quality player. Sadly he's been a victim of circumstances. Saliba-Gabriel partnership just functioning too well at the moment. But there could be a much bigger role for him in the future.
I think it would make sense if he moved on in the summer, but January would leave a massive hole in the squad. We can't get complacent, A player like Tomiyasu will be extremely useful in the run-in, especially if we're juggling some injuries and still in the Champions League. The summers going to be very interesting. I think Mickel will really push to the next stage of the squad build. It wouldn't surprise me to see lots of former starters leave.
Oh and argument 3: he isn't a backup or squad player. He's a vital first team player in certain games. If we know a team is good in the air, he acts as a third CB in the back line. Times have changed. He's not outside the first 11. He's part of the best 15 we use for lineups.
This only makes sense if Timber comes good. Arsenal have to sell to buy now, so I accept some players I like will leave. Arsenal need a midfielder, winger and striker. They don't come cheap.
You talk about only selling him if we could find a ceiling raiser, i get that but then you mentioned two center back not full backs or inverted wing backs. you need to replace like for like, Tomi played both left and right back, not center back although he can. I was genuinely excited to see who you could name as a replacement but you let me down there. If you was making a case for the potential sale of Gabriel then the two you mentioned would be interesting.
If we want to achieve what City has achieved in the last few years, we need players like Tomi. Versatile, consistent, committed and always willing to do a job. Id hate to see him go.
I feel selling Tomiyasu would be one of our biggest misktes of the seasons simply put who will be RB if White is injured or break? Timber Injured, Cedric shit, Norton-Cuffy loan and Walters is being converted into a CB. Also Zinny what happens if he gets injured/break KT is on loan and Sousa might not be ready. The guy can play anywhere and is always class if we are going to sell him do it in the summer so we can look at getting a replacement either through academy or sign. RN would be awful and would damage our season massively.
you have to aknowledge that he is literally developing every game he plays, when he initally played for RB, it was his first time playing as RB and few games after pocketing wingers like salah, Son. Then when he became, LB he lacked in inverted LB skill like zinchenko, however after one game he is playing the inverted role. And after Tommy claimed his RB position this season, he was lacking in overlaps but look at yesterdays game, he is overlaping and giving great crosses. He is literally evolving every game and improving. Also his defending skills are beyond superB mate.
Realistic transfers for a guaranteed PL title: Nketiah + cash -> Toney Smith Rowe + Ramsdale -> Pedro Neto Sell Partey + cash -> Douglas Luiz ------------------------------------------------------ Net expenditure ~ £50-60 million for a near-complete squad improvement. // Nketiah way better than Wissa. // Wolves considering selling Sa + need more creativity. + Toney is as fast as Eddie, stronger & a good aerial threat. Kane-like passing vision + incredible linkup play. + Pedro Neto offers the best of Saka and Martinelli in a single package and will cover both wings. + Douglas Luiz is as close to perfect & proven a replacement for 22/23 Partey you can find. The most unrealistic transfer is Douglas Luiz. The others are very realistic to get done and simultaneously raise the ceiling & floor of the squad.
I think he should be starting at least 60% of our games. Obviously slots in easily at center back for willo or Gabi if they're unfit or need a rest, slots in at left or right back when we need more defense on that side or at the 60 min mark to shut out a game. Personally think he's one of the best players in our squad but it's hard to drop Benjamin unless we dropped Kai and played a 5-2-3 against the big champions league clubs
I think when Timber returns Tomiyasu will be more suited to the system then, when we play a more traditional back 3 like we did at the start of this season.
Tomi would have to go for over £70mm to make it worthwhile in January. I’d be happy to unload Eddie in January if we could get some decent scratch while his stats are padded. Maybe to a basement dweller looking for goals in a bid to stay up.
I think he's gonna be in it for the long run, he's a perfect Arteta type of defender and seams the perfect professional. I would honestly prefer to let Zinny but we never know how Arteta will see it once timber finally in action for us. Either way i'm very excited about how good our defence is/can be as I love the age, defences are best when they grow and learn together.. we already know how good our attack can get. exciting times to come. COYG
Tomi has been playing so well especially going forward that Ben White literally may have to earn his spot back in the team. I think we buy a defender in January anyway, Mikel keeps saying how light we are at the back with just one injury to a defender currently
The eye test beats that AI analytics and jargon if it brought in Willian and Kai "Willow the Wisp" Havertz (goal vs the Bees does not wash away even 1/5th the sins). Who else raises our floor across ALL defensive positions as much? I cant remember any player ever doing so so well. Bayern have similar access to data and better profile and aren't choosing those other players.
My guess is we are coming close to the "FFP limit" so either we wan't or not we are going to have to sell players, if we don't, we won't be able to buy, and maybe not even be able to comlete the Raya deal.
Let's say bayern pay €80m for Tomiyasu ,can we find the good replacement that can immediately tune in?I don't think so. Inter ask for scalvini last summer atalanta wanted €60-80m,we don't get profit if we sell tomiyasu, better keep him.
If Tommy wants to go then I think we should let him, he’s been nothing but loyal to the club but he will always come off the bench for us, he could move his career forward with a move to Bayern, I will miss him and everything he brings if he does go

Very thought provoking, you’re really making me think with all these great videos lol. Keep up the great work man!
tomiyasu one of the best 1v1 defenders in the world got pace strength brains can play every position across the backline yea come buy him 500m euros
So happy you mentioned Diamonde, the profile is very interesting
I think Tomiyasu is worth 75 + it would be stupid for Arsenal to think about selling him when we got a good thing why would we throw it away. And that's from the head not hot
aged well
Timber is a ceiling raiser and he is on the books
I fucking love the utter depths and nuances that this channel goes into when answering simple-sounding questions. Of course the answer is no, but then by the end of the video I’m like, hmm, he’s got a point. Great, constructed arguments.
Imagine Lee Gunner answering this:
“Selling Tomiyasu? Levels mate. What about buying Tomiyasu? The standards of this club. Dead manager” The end.
Great content mate ❤ keep going 100k soon! 🎉
Difference is, Coutinho WANTED to leave AND the money was crazy
Same with city, cancelo wanted to leave so did Fernandinho, aswell as zinchenko. These players weren’t forced out Liverpool and City just had to react to what their players wanted, arsenal don’t need to sell tomi he’d be happy to stay so why create more headache. If saliba or Ben white get injured tomorrow he would fill
@@omother6950 You do know Tomitinfoil is injury prone right?
Who else can play 3 different positions from RB, CB, LB as good & consistent as Tomi? Selling him for even 60M, you will need to buy 2 or 3 players to do the job that he can do. Not for Sale
The thought this made me have is that the best course of action would be to keep Tomiyasu, but sell White. I feel like you can find a ceiling raiser on White. But keeping Tomi, as he can play all across the back four and is obviously quality, seems sensible.
I agree, I love white but it does feel like he's overrated by some fans. he's not on the same level as most of our first team players
Selling Tomi? What are you sniffing? 😂😂😂😂
Talk about selling Cedric, Fabio Viera or Kai.
Not Dependeble players.
This did not age well😂😂😂After tonight's performance just delete this already😂😂
Open to any discussion around improvement but i don't think this is a robust argument whrn considering the type of money we'd actually get for Tomi. I get the point when applied more broadly though.
tomiyasu is on his way to becoming another rolls Royce
Feels like the intro of your parents telling you they are going to divorce but everything will be fine
😂😂😂
I agree with your point of view!
Tomiyasu for me is one of the best defenders itw... Good vision, passing, controls, plays with both foots, hes good on the air, amazing on tackles, good decisions...
Just play him as Central Defender in a 4 / 3 defender line.
For me the best posible is:
Zinchenko Tomiyasu Saliba & Timber (or White)
Timber over Zinchenko, White on the right
He's contract situation could be a reason why clubs are sniffing around.
Brilliant insights...very thought provoking
I love Tomi. Hard working man and can play anywhere in the back.
We should keep him precisely because of what happened last season when Saliba got injured last season
I agree with everything you said… just not with Tomi.. with Zinchenko
Tomiyasu only leaves if he wants to leave
When Timber went out I bet they all sat down and sighed pheww thank god we didn't sell Tommy
SO UNDERRATED! 🇯🇵
IF BAYERN ARE INTERESTED YOU HAVE SOMETHING OF VALUE!
One word… NO!
There’s no player available in Europe right now who can replace Tomiyasu. You’ll need to buy minimum 2 or 3 player to replace what he offers Mikel Arteta right now .
HES DEFINITELY SIGNING THE NEW CONTRACT.
Who told you that?
Kiwior is a quality player. Sadly he's been a victim of circumstances. Saliba-Gabriel partnership just functioning too well at the moment. But there could be a much bigger role for him in the future.
You need to be ready to get down & dirty....rough as a defender. Kiwior is too clean.
Sadly he's been a victim of circumstances??
Only at Arsenal
Nah nah, tomi is the reason we can be in every competition.
Except the Carabao Cup where West Ham embarrassed him...
Would sell Ben white before I ever thought of selling Tomi
This didn't age well. Epic performance against Lens.
Did you watch him last night? Its a a HEll No from me
I think it would make sense if he moved on in the summer, but January would leave a massive hole in the squad.
I'll make this short. No, no, and, well, no. Any questions?
We are on verge of building the best defense in the epl and tomiyasu is soo integral for us to win the league.
Stop trying to lose viewers
Pls no
Half time against Lens and this has already aged like milk
Still, we love TDK
It would be a shame if we sold Tomiyasu. If Bayern want him, it's a clear sign not to sell.
RN would be awful and would damage our season massively.
with timber out, we can't get rid of Tomi
If someone needs to be sold, should sell Kiwior to Roma if the price is right. Tomi is much more defensively solid imo
you have to aknowledge that he is literally developing every game he plays, when he initally played for RB, it was his first time playing as RB and few games after pocketing wingers like salah, Son.
Realistic transfers for a guaranteed PL title:
Nketiah + cash -> Toney
Smith Rowe + Ramsdale -> Pedro Neto
Sell Partey + cash -> Douglas Luiz
------------------------------------------------------
Net expenditure ~ £50-60 million for a near-complete squad improvement.
After tonight's performance, pls delete this video 😂
I’d rather have zinchenko go then tomi
Let's say bayern pay €80m for Tomiyasu ,can we find the good replacement that can immediately tune in?I don't think so. Inter ask for scalvini last summer atalanta wanted €60-80m,we don't get profit if we sell tomiyasu, better keep him.
If Tommy wants to go then I think we should let him, he’s been nothing but loyal to the club but he will always come off the bench for us, he could move his career forward with a move to Bayern, I will miss him and everything he brings if he does go
id sell tomiyasu if bayern when over 50
Tomi is playing better than Zinchenko at LB right now IMO
Great to position different arguments. But Tommy is arguably better then Zinny and Ben White. Why don’t you do one on selling Saliba next?! 🙄😆🔴⚪️
I would sell Tomiyasu for £50M, but Arteta would most likely want Simikan and this ain't happening in January.
