Highly recommend watching the ENTIRE video before commenting on this one folks... shades of grey 😄 I very very rarely criticise the manager. As I say, I love him - but I have to be honest when I'm not happy about something, or I'm not being honest with you guys in my analysis. Critique, not blind criticism, for the club we love. Appreciate all your support as always and COYG. ❤
Hi Alex. Love your videos on here and Canon podcast. I think you're taking Artetas words too seriously. Even if he thought numbers would drop. He didn't think it would drop that bad and got Timber, Rice & to stop conceding goals...
Mikel is just trying to manage expectations. Not a chance he’s telling players they can’t do better but the fans need to understand that it’s not possible to set new records every season. It’s not about how many goals are scored in a single season, it’s about a consistent average over multiple seasons.
I can’t think of one sub that he has ever made that has made an impact apart from maybe Pepe at West Ham and Nelson against Bournemouth… but neither of those were particularly revolutionary subs.
@@ryanfinnerty6239We won our first league match against Man City in 8 years because of the 4 substitutes brought on by Arteta who all were directly involved in the goal.
On one hand; we did try. Havertz hasn't probably been everything Arteta hoped, but I'm sure he was intended to be an Attacking upgrade on Xhaka. On the other hand; I think striker wasn't a priority for Arteta for 2 reasons. I think 1) he felt we had bigger holes, which we filled with Timber and Rice and 2) I think he may see a striker as the cherry on the icing on the cake, that the right striker will fit in better with all the other pieces around them. I don't think Arteta was willing to sacrifice the process because we had one season where we challenged, and I think a Striker was always one of the last pieces in the plan. It's like the Zinchenko situation, where we couldn't have brought him in before we did because the team wasn't ready to play the way his involvement would have required. I think the strikers Arteta wants will be best once we have a specific way of playing, and last summer was just another step in getting there.
I think the 4 biggest issues for Arsenal are - 1. How teams set up againest us. 2. Arteta not rotating enough. 3. Injuries to key players. 4. Our restrictions due to FFP. Teams this year have been setting up differently towards us and mainly focusing on our wingers (usually Saka and Martinelli). This is something that should have been expected and possibly avoided by setting up in a different way, or by not being afraid to either move them in to a different position, or even subbing them for different players. Now i know Saka especially is our best forward and scores/assists pretty much every game, but when a player is over played and targeted, it will naturally wear out the player quicker until you see what we have seen the last few games (a player who starts running out of ideas). Arteta needs to come up with a plan B and a different formation to suit a different line up if certain players are not at their best. This also means that Arteta needs to start using other players more, as most are not really match sharp, which means they wont be as impactful on the pitch. Now, the way we can play has also been impacted by certain iniuries to the squad. Mainly Partey and Timber. Partey was a key player for how we played last season, especially with our transition speed and with his passing range. It also helped Odegaard to flourish because he had both Partey and Xhaka to do the heavy lifting in midfield and he could play with the freedom he needs to be at his best. So with Partey back, i do feel either a double pivot of Partey and Rice or use Rice in the "Xhaka" role, will help make a massive impact on our overall attacking play. Also, Timber i feel would have added a new dynamic to our game as he is quite aggressive in the challenge, can invert like zinchenko but also add some steelness in defence (as shown in his game againest man city). The fact he is also versatile would have really helped as well. Oh and Tomiyasu being injured and having to go to the Asian cup has/is also a big miss, as he has looked brilliant at times this season. Finally FFP has had a big impact on what we could do. Yes we all could have said about signing a striker and as much as i agree, any good striker would have cost us at least £80million+, when we have needed other positions filling/adding to more. Now i know a lot of people would have said about not signing Havertz instead, but i do believe he has plenty of levels to him. He has come from a side that was struggling badly and his confidence was low, but we have seen with some patience, he is improving and i feel nowhere near his best yet. Havertz a side, it was always going to be a tricky transition from having to replace Xhaka for someone else (not only a tough tacking player, but also a leader in the dressing room). Though i do feel Rice would have done a good job there if Partey had stayed fit to be our number 6 instead. Now looking at our signings from the summer as a whole, i feel all are justified apart from possibly Raya.....though he plays more like Arteta wants a goalkepper to play. Ramsdale, as much as he is good and i love him. As seen last season, his highs are high and lows can be low. Where as Raya seems more consistent across the board and can pick out a great pass, which can greatly benefit our style of play and attack. Having said all this, i still remain optimistic for the second half of the season. First and foremost, you take finishing out of the game (yes i know its the most important thing/stat for any game), but there is only 1 game where we have played bad enough to deserve to lose (Fulham). All other stats in games have been really good. We have dominated opponents and out played them a lot this season. If we had the finishing to accompy the performaces, we would be top of the table no doubt. But that is also a team problem, not just a striker problem, as all players are missing their chances. Our players are taking a well deserved break to recharge and will hopefully come back feeling much better and ready to go again. This will hopefully be boosted by the return of some players (mainly Partey). As this should help us set up a bit stronger in games and help our transition of play to be quicker, amd more fluid. Thus helping Odegaard to recapture his form, along with other players hopefully. Our biggest stubbling block will be Arteta. I believe he has to start using players like ESR, Trossard and Nelson more. He also should not be afraid of dropping any player that are not performing (including Saka). Finally, Arteta needs to mix up our style of play, tactics and formations as well. Constantly setting up the same way, but slightly adjusting tactics isnt always going to work. Teams know that by nulifying our wingers, they effectively cut our attack to virtually a non threat. We need to set up differently at times or completely change how our wingers influence the game. This will help throw other teams off as they wouldnt have planned for us to switch up how we play or how we set up. The only way i can see us excelling by how we currently play is if we copy a liverpool type approach, which is being more direct and being risk takers....but even then, our players still need to hit the back of the net. In short, everything rests on Arteta's shoulders. I hope he is taking this time to not only help the players recharge, but also come up with new tactics and approaches to games. As i do feel we are going to it. An optimistic and hopeful fan 😂
Excuse fc every teams have injuries, we just don't buy the right player's, his crap and we reward failure while his eating stake in dubai, tactically we've been found out 😂😂😂 no more time for rookie and his experiment, get Zidane, simeoni even emery back, carlo
You could have saved yourself all that typing. The top top players can't be marked out of games no matter what and always find a way to score. Arsenal's players simply aren't at the level. The question then becomes whether they are actually capable of getting there or not.
Well done for the analysis. Arsenal has been chasing strikers for years now. Gabriel Jesus was not our main striker target when we bought him. His conversation rate has always been quite low. Extremely good in build up play etc. It has been an open secret that we need striker(s). I was surprised we allowed Folarin Balogun to leave though he wanted more game time which Arteta couldn't guaranteed him. Definitely we're always looking for a striker. Then FFP. We're quite close to being sanctioned according to analysts. That means we must sell players to buy players.
I see the lack of overlaps by the full backs damaging us. It allows our better pkayers on the wing more space to cause damage its a BIG issue this season
Perhaps you can do an analysis on how we are playing differently to last year. I get so frustrated when I see a 100 passes at the back before passing forward. Did teams find us out? Did we change strategy? This year has been weird but on the other hand we have been creating SO many chances against Fulham and West Ham. Are we just unlucky?
We are unlucky + good defending. Against Brighton we shouldved scored 5-6 goals, same with Villa and Liverpool, ect. Defensive performances from these teams were outstanding, lewis Dunk, villa's highline, konate, Areola at westham were absolutely outstanding in these games.
Just signing a striker or winger doesn't just = goals. You know that. The players behind them are more important. Quality of chances is a huge factor. Partey being out and Xhaka leaving has completely changed our attack because we don't arrive at the box in the same way, or as fast. Our attack was fine last year, we wasted chances, but they were better chances. We have an abundance of chances this season but they're not great chances. Basically we need Partey back. His transition speed was so key for us last season. Idk if you remember but we looked exactly the same last season when Partey was out. Dominant and toothless. We can't break down low blocks, and that's a different problem we have to solve. But to create like we did before we need Partey.
He may well have meant that if you look at what they did last season, it was a one off (so far) in terms of what they have done for a season, certainly far more goals between them than previous seasons. It doesn't neccessarily mean that it will not happen again, with all the years ahead we can certainly hope it would. Mikel isn't English and his definition of "one off" may be slightly different to an English person's definition, as generally when we use that phrase we tend to mean that it happens once and once only (including in the future) whereas it's very possible that to a foreigner (even one who speaks great english) the phrase could mean that it was a one off in the past but could (and even may well) happen again in the future. Anyone who has lived abroad and lived foreign languages will tell you that things are very very nuanced when it comes to many phrases and often, even someone who speaks a forgeing language "fluently" will make small errors which will end it people getting the wrong end of the stick. If you think I am overplaying this, try dating a foreign woman! Im pretty sure Arteta is expecting lots of goals out of those guys :)
The problem we've got is that we're turning more towards Man City without the players to be Man City. We're trying to control games more, which is okay, but we're not taking enough risks with out build up. Man City do face low blocks, like we do, but they also play line-breaking passes to create good chances before the opposition can get organised defensively. We did that last season with passes from the likes of Partey & Zinchenko into the space between midfield & defence, & that's how we'd create good chances. Now we're being too slow in progression, despite having a very good defensive structure to restrict the opposition for counter attacks, & don't go for the early penetrating passes that we see from the likes of KDB for City. As a result we're being forced to play around the edge to try & find a small space for a cross because we're not committing enough players into the box to break through. So the chances we're creating, even though we're creating more of them, aren't good enough for our current forwards to score (or it's Havertz, who needs to be 6 yards out to hit the target). We need to take more risks & be more direct if we're going to solve our goalscoring issues. Now if you've had the time to read all that, you've definitely got time to reply to that email.
Spot on and bravo as I do not see many people out there addressing this. How do you beat a low block? You avoid the low block? Quick transitions is the game that needs to be dialed into our Arsenal. This requires quicker more aggressive passers from the middle third. You are right, we play too slow. Watch Liverpool, people like to say look at the attackers on Liverpool as though our attackers are not as good, but that is lazy analysis. The issue really comes down to style...Pep and Arteta covet control whereas Klopp wants penetration and he wants it early. As a coach I would say that having an identity is the most important thing, yet it is very normal to teach players nonverbal queues to adjust and so there are times where we should absolutely play quicker, be more aggressive, and take some risk knowing sometimes it won't pull off and we will lose the ball and lose control...yet I do not think Arteta is interested in going in that direction. He is a great manager and will only get better as he is young. All manager's make choices in how they train identity and set up a balanced team; control is important to him. And by the way, control can work as we would be just fine on the scoring front if any of our players performed to XG (like last year). It is not that control isn't important to Klopp, yet that is the point as a balance needs to be struck and you have to adjust the one to take more of the other. Doesn't need to be all or nothing, a tweak or three will do it with a slight shift in mentality toward more risk.
@@ToddParker The slower the better. The 09-12 Barcelona and the 17-20 ManCity are slow. Everton and Bournemouth are fast. We need more skillful, silky and tekky players to create chaos against a low block.
@thierryhenry674 it doesn't need to be one way or the other, there is more than one way to play football as game state can dictate this as adjustments are made. If we play quicker in middle third goals will come. If we play to xg goals come as chances are already being created. I do not buy that the problem is always "get better players." Our players are better than people think, yet only one team had xavi, Iniesta, busquets, and oh...Messi. that blessing isn't coming to Arsenal.
I have an opinion about martinelli, the amount of times he beats fullbacks on the outside has started to feel like fullbacks are letting him do that along with sometimes him just being good at it, bit of both i mean. Teams surely have picked up that he isn’t the strongest at creating an high xG chance, his assist numbers were not really good last year as well, so they surely believe they have a good chance at nullifying whatever he’ll do if they allow him that space, believing he’ll take that option everytime he feels he can, thoughts?
Yes but it's also about the quality of chances we create. Last season we were more dynamic while attacking, playing direct balls through the lines quickly, leading to better quality chances. This year we seem to play the ball around for an age, giving the opposition time to get into a low block. So yes, whilst we are creating a lot of chances, I don't think they're as high quality as last season.
Defence wins you titles. next summer we should get the striker. Letting Balogun go means we're careful with who we play up front. I think it's as simple as buying Ollie Watkins in the summer.
well, Mikel mentioned Vlahovic in the past, but, lets just say "striker" for now in the summer, different+better than Balogun is what they're aiming for I think. @@p0rt13r
I still don’t see why we needed Havertz, I know what he can become, I just think we needed other types before we went for a Havertz type. We could have gotten Morata and Amadou Onana for what we gave for Havertz.
What Arteta was saying in my opinion is that 1. last year we scored more goals than can be realistically expected, based upon the quantity of 'quality' chances created (we outperformed our xG by 15 goals last season). How clinical we were is unsustainable. 2. The way overcome that this season is by creating more 'quality' chances. If you look at the stat 'big chances created' - basically chances created that you expect to score from - Arsenal are 9th in the League, behind Everton! While we have created more in the last few games, before that we're creating very little despite dominating possession wise. Even last year when we scored a record amount of goals we were only 6th for big chances created, hence the overperfomaning of our xG For context in 9 out of the last 10 seasons, the title winner has finished in the top 2 of the 'big chances created' metric. Although in the last few games we have had an issue finishing, overall the biggest problem we have had is creating quality opportunities. Mikel knows this and he hopefully can resolve it
You are over thinking it, really, aside from the fulham game where we did look tired, we have dominated West Ham, and Liverpool. We don't need a new striker we need to get our forwards striking...doesn't cost a penny. Teams have adjusted to Saka and Martinelli, but Martinelli needs to pass the ball accurately in the box, same with Saka, their focus should be on improving their laying off skills and decision making...both are poor. Asrenal's play keep the opposition in their box, tippy tappy hoping that one of the forwards will get and take their change. How is a new Ivan Toney or other number 9 going to improve that...we don't cross the ball because we play with inverted wingers.
Considering the money we had to spend. The marquee signing would have been a striker. But Declan Rice contract and timing put a spanner in the works. I believe there was probably a long long meeting about do they spend the bulk of their transfer budget on a striker or get Declan Rice. If we had gone for a striker, Rice would be playing his football at another club, quite possibly Liverpool. Like you said when making the decision they could not see us dropping off as much as we have this year.
If we had a choice with Rice or any other player, I would take RIce anyday. Even if that other player is mbappe or haaland. Rice is just a rare player and him going to another club would be devastating.
I think that we of course need to fix our problems, but I'd also point out that we were top of the league at Christmas despite underperforming on our XG, which suggests that what Arteta was trying to do has essentially worked. If the players were performing at Xg we would be top of the table still (I think, sorry I'm too lazy to properly calculate it). What I mean by this is that it's just a matter of getting the current players to finish better. They were managing it last season, so they are obviously capable of it. I'm not some amazing coach, so I have no idea how to do it, but I trust the team that they will work it out. I'm much more confident this year than I would have been had we had the same problems last year. The current squad and style of play seems far more resistant to bad spells, kind of like City. I also think that we will perform comparatively better in the second half of the season, like City do, because other teams will get tired, start suffering from lack of squad depth, etc, which were issues we tried to fix in the summer transfer window. Of course, this could all be wishful thinking.
I don't think I'd say they KNEW the lack of goals would be an issue this season...we scored EIGHTY-EIGHT goals last season, which you can definitely argue is a one-off for us as it's literally our highest figure in a single PL season. Considering those numbers, would it make sense to drop a significant amount of money on a quality signing to replace someone in our front three? I think we can agree that due to Partey's hospital record, our priority was to spend big in the midfield (which we did - Rice), and our next problem looking back at 22-23 was strenghtening our defensive options (which we did as well - Timber). ON TOP OF THAT we signed Kai who gives our attacking options a totally new approach we didn't count with last season and that has been proven effective against low blocks (Brentfrod away as an example). I do think we should have signed another midfielder as we trusted Thomas too much and that saw us short in the left 8 position so far (which could have also been solved with Timber being fit), and only after that signing I think a world-class striker makes sense. As an Arsenal fan I learned to see the big picture and if we go 2 or 3 years back in time and compare our squad then and now I literally don't have an adjective for the change this management achieved. That's why I keep trusting them and I'm only seeing success in our future :)
that quote went a bit under the radar and it was weird. he said it was a one-off because it was. if i remember correctly there was a stat that it happened for the first time in premier league that 3 non strikers got that amount of goals. Havertz should have been a compensation for that, changing it from more quick chaos to more front "domination" (limiting opponent chances) was probably also a solution. problem is now we create a lot of almost great chances and we miss a lot of them.
I have faith that we will perform better in the second half of the season and be more clinical in front of goal. Plus Kai will bed in better and get more goals
Sorry, bit late to this comment party but just watched this and feel that comments made by Managers at formal press conferences are not always for us as fans or social media hosts, the honest answer may have been "slight loss of confidence" but what he said was in support of the three guys mentioned, praising them for last season rather than criticising for this, so it was for his players, Jesus wasn't mentioned and I think he possibly expected more goals from him and as far as buying players in the summer that was clearly designed to reduce the number of goals we conceded and make us harder to beat, not really worked but with Timber fit it may have done. I think Mikel's nod to improving our goal scoring outside of the three guys mentioned was Havertz, again not really worked so far this season but still could, it's difficult to try him up top too often or indeed give Eddie a bit of a run whilst we are going through this obvious goal drought. By the way in addition to FFP and availability of top notch strikers in the market we would have to change the way we play to get the best out of a more traditional striker, in my view why Eddie doesn't get that many starts over Jesus. I think we will be top 4, maybe 2nd again but genuinely fancy us for the CL this year.
COYG 🔴⚪ Yes we are creating chances, and overplaying and I do believe that buying striker may not be the solution. If all our firepowers starts kicking the ball on time we will be on the top again. Let's support the boys Thank you Alex 🙂
I didn’t need to wait for that quote to pound the table for a striker-last offseason. It was a glaring need, even with the performance of the front three. Arteta’s mentor saw it at his own club, and brought in Haaland. This system cannot possibly generate goals over time without a central striker.
I think we are skirting close to FFP. So they bought king Kai as an option for both striker and cam. If we were to go out and buy one of each it would’ve cost well over 100 million.
I'm not sure we're creating quality chances. The opportunity to shoot through a crowded 18 yard box isn't necessarily one that a better finisher will convert. Take Liverpool as an example - yes Salah does sometimes score by wriggling through a wall of defenders, but most of their goals are scored because they transition so quickly and they have more room to play a killer pass and to shoot.
Personally I interpreted this as mind-games from Arteta, and a message more to his own players than anyone else. It's a challenge to the players to prove that what they produced last year wasn't a fluke.
i got my high hopes after last season's performance as we can see the future. the starting xi were great but the club have no depth in some key position. there's no need to fix what was not broken. xhaka leaves, the board brought in declan rice. great. when saliba got injured, the gunners melted down at the end of the season, so timber was signed. fantastic. do the club need havertz if the squad already have esr playing great at euro -21 and fabio improving and adapting in premier league? that 65m could have been and should have been kudos to cover for saka and luiz as insurance for partway. do the team really need a raya or the club need to sign a more clinical striker? guess the latter was more important. too many chances created, how many goals produced? arteta let go the best left-back and overused tomiyasu in many different defensive position. now he's injured. zinchenko needs to go back in the midfield. enough of this playing out of position. maybe rambo should still be the club's number 1. and were back to reality. again.
I interpret it differently. He said it was a one out, a one off in the league. Can't we read that as, it will be a one off based on we were going to be moving to a more controlled style of play and teams will definitely sit deeper against us which leaves less space for the attackers.
Ramsdales early long ball to Nelson created a chance that Arteta would never consider. Also the Arteta is not averse to bs, they did not expect a drop off. As you say the key attackers are pre-maturation so positive evolution and consistency is expected given they are coached properly.
I think the point was yes the players might not reach the same output as last season , but if we have more control of games they wouldn’t have to, then when the season ended we’d get that knockout striker.
Didn't look for backup for Saka, didn't look to replace Nketiah, now recalling Marquinhos from loan and panic buying a striker in January. I can't help but be annoyed. Such a predictable situation we find ourselves in and Arteta couldn't see it. How?
I think it's disingenuous to say the club did nothing in the way of planning against a downturn in finishing. The signing of Havertz (love it or hate it) in my mind was Mikels answer to that problem and I believe the injuries to Partey, Timber and possibly even Vieira drastically altered how Havertz has been deployed and therefore not shown the true plan Mikel had in place to address a finishing issue.
Hopefully their target has been and will be a Victor Osimhen level player… and knowing that he’s only available during summer 2024 means the team will have to make do at the moment. Not ideal right now, but an excellent long term plan 🤞
something thats still not changed is... WE ARE NOT A SELLING CLUB. and i think thats a major problem. unless we can be a selling club. generate revenue from player sales. its very unlikely this project will succeed. After all it all comes down to money. We have been poor at selling. often selling dead wood for dimes. We need to change that in order to consistently buy replace world class and maintain it.
When every attacker suddenly underperforms, then we should look at systemic issues, not individuals. The analysis puts way too much emphasis on a not very accurate xG metric. Rather I think the tactics are as much or more at fault. Too obsessed with possession, slows the attack and allows the opposition to constantly low-block. Rice might be many things, but a great passer of the ball he is not, so Arsenal has lost both ability and will to dare more breakthrough passes in the midfield. Arsenal isn't fluid enough to compete with Man City.
I think it was financially impossible to sign a striker last summer. Firstly, we would lose Nketiah for free If we signed a striker. Balogun also wouldn't stay because he didn't want to be a third choice. Also, we didn't have money for striker since we signed Raya for loan. However, we could buy a striker instead of Haverz. But instead of this video it would be "Why we didn't buy a top midfielder instead of Xhaka". Financially, we can sell Nketiah next summer for good price and it will be a pure profit. Then we buy a top striker for any money. It is a sustainable strategy from our club. Look at Newcastle, they spent a lot to qualify and be ready for Champions league and now they are going to have problems. We were just unlucky with Timber and Partey injuries. I am sure we are going to see a completely different Arsenal when they come back. Keep your expectations low and you will not be upset. Trust the process. 2 years ago you were not even dreaming to be upset about 2nd place
So let me get this right. You have said we are creating the chances but the players are not putting them away so we need to buy a defensive minded player?
"why didnt we sign a striker" what about Kai? he could have been scoring like crazy.......he didnt, but was it a terrible gamble? as ever the answer is simple...we play 15 games, form patterns and give the key away to stopping us, especially with every man and their dog talking about it and someone will have a point worth acting on. personally, I think the key to stopping us scoring is let us shoot, dont try and tackle, let us pull back and...block it. our defenders learned to do this when Mickel came, dont always try to tackle and get done, stick a body part in the way instead. its not very scientific sounding, but watch our defenders and opposing defenders.......they let the shot come and concentrate on the block, rather than gamble with tracking to tackle.
I don’t know why you’d expect the same these boys are early 20s their going through a sticky spell. When you look at Liverpool (which no expected to be in our conversation 2 years ago) they have players in their prime 27 and so on. When people say why didn’t he bring subs earlier we were actually playing well up to the 80th minute and who do you trust to bring on? ESR? Eddie? Trossard? Not good enough. The last thing we need is panic buying, we’ve been through that before. COYG
i don’t think the answer is just signing someone. the defense and the midfield has gotten much stronger this year and mikel has already ruled out signing a striker this january. i’m not disagreeing with you on how the manager deserves criticism when necessary however i think this is just a reaction to a sudden change of expectations among the fanbase. what happened last year was due to us massively over performing, if arsenal want to sustain such performances they need to grow to that level and i believe the club’s transfers reflect that. can’t change a team over one transfer window chelsea have proven that
I mostly agree with your analysis but I do not agree with the "they didn't do anything" at 8:07. They absolutely did something. They did 3 somethings. Timber, Havertz, and Rice. All 3 of those signings were designed to not only strengthen the defense but ALSO to facilitate the attack. You have mentioned this in other videos as well. The reality is our attack vastly out performed last year and is unfortunately under performing this year. That's football.
Nah, you're being unfair. Each transfer window, they have filled what has needed to be done. We all thought out frontline could still bang in the goals, but this year so far has been anomalous to what we exepected. They'll sort it out if they can't fire, for sure.
Easy to say now, but I saw it coming. Because Saka and Martinelli are not at Salah and Mane's level just yet - neither mature enough to carry a team on their own. It was always going to be a tough act to follow, but Martinelli in particular has been the biggest letdown. He needs to step into the next level. But Arteta is not helping himself either. He's a brilliant coach, but the worst squad manager (not to mean team management) I have seen. Predictable lineup, same tired tactics and poor use of the bench. Nelson, ESR, Trossard and even Kiwior could have done with more minutes.
We knew Eddie wasn’t good enough last year and the Havertz money could of bought a better 8 for 35m and had £30m plus money for Eddie towards a really good striker on loan - missing Parteys line breaking speed of transition is the reason this team won’t score much so we need to buy as we can’t rely on one player like that !!
Never a big fan for Arteta as a manager. He needs everything and everything goes with his plan and instructions otherwise he could do nothing and everything crumbles. He bought a striker that couldn't score and sold Xhaka who probably had his best season for Havertz. He didn't develop and find the backups for Saka and Martinelli despite potentially playing more high competitive matches this season. Next season he's going to spend another 100+ millions to patch this while City, Liverpool and even mid table teams like Aston Villa, Brighton and West Ham are getting better each season with less.
Love how we can't finish for toffee and the video shows nothing but finishing! 😅😅😅 Yeah man, we just need to put ball in net but WE WILL... baby calm down calm down, we got this. No team this season is scoring 3 or 4 every game 👍🏼
Honestly i don't see anything wrong here, if i may ask The different knock what is the real purpose of this video ? Top players are not free, they cost money (millions to be exact) It's not like Arsenal board has got this money lying around. There are a lot of projects going around in the Arsenal organisation including the Women's league that require salaries and allowances weekly. Buying a striker is like gambling, it might work or might fail dismally, he might even get injured in the first game, cant you learn what happened to Timber?. Then again despite injury or not, good performance or not he still needs his salary in full. This video is completely unnecessary, instead we should be using these platforms to motivate our players and other fans not pointing fingers unnecessarily. COYG
Balogun had a great season and everyone knew Nketiah wasn't going to contribute enough. Balogun should have been bumped up the pecking order and we should have sold Eddie. Given Balogun the season to prove it.
@@englishwithme9922 he had some chances on the field but never really made impact, that said I think we. Needed the money more too and it was good money for him
Wake up you lots. We are not winning titles. His leniency and over confidence in some players will be his downfall just like wenger. Couldn't give a shit about the future when we can't win major trophies.

I very very rarely criticise the manager.
Why does everyone who wants to question or comment on Arsenal have to first say "and don't get me wrong, I love Mikel..."
Mikel is just trying to manage expectations. Not a chance he’s telling players they can’t do better but the fans need to understand that it’s not possible to set new records every season. It’s not about how many goals are scored in a single season, it’s about a consistent average over multiple seasons.
Game management is also an area Arteta suffers from. He never wants to change what is "working " according to him. This is something Klop does so well
Saka undroppable, even unsubbable.
Nonsense 🙄
Currently only Brighton with 12 goals have scored more goals with a substitute than Arsenal.
@@ryanfinnerty6239bcx you don't watch Arsenal
I think the 4 biggest issues for Arsenal are -

Are we just unlucky?
he has
We are unlucky + good defending. Against Brighton we shouldved scored 5-6 goals, same with Villa and Liverpool, ect. Defensive performances from these teams were outstanding, lewis Dunk, villa's highline, konate, Areola at westham were absolutely outstanding in these games.
Quality of chances has decreased I believe
@@ToddParker
The slower the better.
I do not buy that the problem is always "get better players." Our players are better than people think, yet only one team had xavi, Iniesta, busquets, and oh...Messi. that blessing isn't coming to Arsenal.

a great finish to this video......."find the best players..and play them" mind blown.
3 biggest factors, for me: Timber and Partey’s injury absence, and replacing Xhaka with Havertz
Been watching since August 2022 and I’ve been loving the consistent quality in every video .Much love from Albania and keep up the good work!
Defence wins you titles. next summer we should get the striker. Letting Balogun go means we're careful with who we play up front. I think it's as simple as buying Ollie Watkins in the summer.
Worst profile of striker for our current style of play, would absolutely tear it at s**** though
well, Mikel mentioned Vlahovic in the past, but, lets just say "striker" for now in the summer, different+better than Balogun is what they're aiming for I think. @@p0rt13r
I still don’t see why we needed Havertz, I know what he can become, I just think we needed other types before we went for a Havertz type. We could have gotten Morata and Amadou Onana for what we gave for Havertz.
Shoulda signed Diaby or Kudus. That's the profile of player we needed during the summer if we couldn't get a striker 🤦
What Arteta was saying in my opinion is that
1. last year we scored more goals than can be realistically expected, based upon the quantity of 'quality' chances created (we outperformed our xG by 15 goals last season).
Even last year when we scored a record amount of goals we were only 6th for big chances created, hence the overperfomaning of our xG
For context in 9 out of the last 10 seasons, the title winner has finished in the top 2 of the 'big chances created' metric. Although in the last few games we have had an issue finishing, overall the biggest problem we have had is creating quality opportunities. Mikel knows this and he hopefully can resolve it
I agree with your interpretation of what Mikel said. It's unbelievable that he said that.
Good video, but I think we did address it. The strikers weren't available, as you said. So we addressed our control of the game to concede less.
Perfectly good points. As much as i love Arteta, we as Arsenal fans are still fully allowed to give Arteta and his decisions criticism
Spot on, pretty much as always 🤙🏼😎
during these 4 years I understood that Arteta isn't changing
I’m with you on this one.
Great video. Agree completely.

Another FIFA 98 and xG expert who can't manage to tie their own shoe laces but somehow think they can manage Arsenal...
It doesn't matter if you score 288 goals in a season as it's only the highest number of points that matters so you stat and xG boys can keep crying
Also got a gooner blog clip in there...cheeky little lad
Your balance is my harmony lol good job bro!
that quote went a bit under the radar and it was weird. he said it was a one-off because it was. if i remember correctly there was a stat that it happened for the first time in premier league that 3 non strikers got that amount of goals.
This, and I wish Arsenal Twitter would take note, is how you do constructive criticism.

Yes we are creating chances, and overplaying and I do believe that buying striker may not be the solution. If all our firepowers starts kicking the ball on time we will be on the top again. Let's support the boys
Thank you Alex 🙂
The problem is Mikel changed the way the team played. Made it all about control not the football they enjoyed playing
Oshimen, Toney, Gimenez and Ferguson are all shouts. Openda, Boniface and Guirassey are out the box shouts
I think he means to say is that last year was the first year it happened and it would be extremely difficult to make sure it’s not a one off
Sorry Ms. Jackson😂😂😂
At least we won on field tilt
😅
i got my high hopes after last season's performance as we can see the future. the starting xi were great but the club have no depth in some key position. there's no need to fix what was not broken. xhaka leaves, the board brought in declan rice. great. when saliba got injured, the gunners melted down at the end of the season, so timber was signed. fantastic. do the club need havertz if the squad already have esr playing great at euro -21 and fabio improving and adapting in premier league? that 65m could have been and should have been kudos to cover for saka and luiz as insurance for partway. do the team really need a raya or the club need to sign a more clinical striker? guess the latter was more important. too many chances created, how many goals produced? arteta let go the best left-back and overused tomiyasu in many different defensive position. now he's injured. zinchenko needs to go back in the midfield. enough of this playing out of position. maybe rambo should still be the club's number 1. and were back to reality. again.
We should honest go out and get another manager in the Summer. Arteta doesn't have what it takes at the highest level.
Central threat is what is needed. We need a dynamic number 10 that penetrates defenses.
Funniest thing is we had 3 strikers and let Balogun go
Didn't look for backup for Saka, didn't look to replace Nketiah, now recalling Marquinhos from loan and panic buying a striker in January. I can't help but be annoyed. Such a predictable situation we find ourselves in and Arteta couldn't see it. How?
Such a predictable situation is plastics like yourself needing 4 years to realize that Arteta's a fraud

I'm sure Arteta thought Havertz was that striker that fixes the expected drop off in goals from last year.
So you saying Harry Kane did not have the balls 😂 fantastic analysis once again 😎
We sold the best young striker in European football last summer....Balogun 🤐
Goals good, need good
So let me get this right. You have said we are creating the chances but the players are not putting them away so we need to buy a defensive minded player?
If Arteta knew we weren’t going to be as prolific this season, WHY didn’t we sign a striker? Yes, I like Havertz!!!!!!!!
I think it's much simpler than you make it seem. Arteta will always wriggle and squirm to avoid making public criticisms of individual players.

COYG
But 10 months ago you were telling us Arteta was the Messiah. What's changed you?
i don’t think the answer is just signing someone. the defense and the midfield has gotten much stronger this year and mikel has already ruled out signing a striker this january. i’m not disagreeing with you on how the manager deserves criticism when necessary however i think this is just a reaction to a sudden change of expectations among the fanbase. what happened last year was due to us massively over performing, if arsenal want to sustain such performances they need to grow to that level and i believe the club’s transfers reflect that. can’t change a team over one transfer window chelsea have proven that
Mikel arteta was named as a passenger of lolita express.. players probably found out and lost focus
But we bought Havertz 😂😂😂
The striker isn’t the one one struggling both wings struggling because what’s behind them can’t join in the play
What does Kai Havertz bring to the club??? Lol great positioning.
What a signing from Mikel 🤣🤣🤣
Keep it up bro
I mostly agree with your analysis but I do not agree with the "they didn't do anything" at 8:07. They absolutely did something. They did 3 somethings. Timber, Havertz, and Rice. All 3 of those signings were designed to not only strengthen the defense but ALSO to facilitate the attack. You have mentioned this in other videos as well. The reality is our attack vastly out performed last year and is unfortunately under performing this year. That's football.
Bring. Back. Giroud. Been hollering it from the rooftops. Adding an at least moderately capable big man gives us a different way to play.
Never go backwards in life it generally fails!
Nelson, ESR, Trossard and even Kiwior could have done with more minutes.
arteta already knows the problem but the inability to fix it is what makes him not as good as other top managers
We knew Eddie wasn’t good enough last year??? Where have you been for the previous 5 years?
Never a big fan for Arteta as a manager.
He needs everything and everything goes with his plan and instructions otherwise he could do nothing and everything crumbles.
He bought a striker that couldn't score and sold Xhaka who probably had his best season for Havertz.
He didn't develop and find the backups for Saka and Martinelli despite potentially playing more high competitive matches this season.
Next season he's going to spend another 100+ millions to patch this while City, Liverpool and even mid table teams like Aston Villa, Brighton and West Ham are getting better each season with less.
Only platonically? Arteta been blessed with the anti balding hair genes.
we didnt sign a winger because he went to barca
Love how we can't finish for toffee and the video shows nothing but finishing! 😅😅😅 Yeah man, we just need to put ball in net but WE WILL... baby calm down calm down, we got this. No team this season is scoring 3 or 4 every game 👍🏼
Did Arteta not say that to suppress expectations? Take the pressure off maybe? Just another take on his words.
Arteta says a lot of things which 95% of the time is justv waffle and excuses
You paid 70M for Havertz, with that money you could´ve got Muani or Gonçalo Ramos.
But he bought Havertz😂😂😂
0:14 given time my ass going on to his 5 season , nearly 700 million spend, 😅
❤❤❤❤
Also goes to show that how much of a big bottle job last season was.
We won on field tilt 😂😂😂
Balogun said he wanted first choice, guaranteed starts. Eddie doesnt get that. Bumping Balogun up and Eddie out was not sufficient enough.
Nah balogun don’t cut it in EPL
@@bubbachua he wasn't even given a chance like emery 😅
@@englishwithme9922 he had some chances on the field but never really made impact, that said I think we. Needed the money more too and it was good money for him
@bubbachua tell me one league game he started for arsenal. 😆 🤣 😂 😹
Wake up you lots. We are not winning titles. His leniency and over confidence in some players will be his downfall just like wenger.
Couldn't give a shit about the future when we can't win major trophies.
