Oh how very very dare you! I can't believe you just tore the pages from that poor unwanted book and not a care in the world! Shame on you for giving it a new purpose and saving it from landfill. And then you have the sheer AUDACITY to go and pretty it up too!!!! Tut tut tut 🤣🤣🤣 honestly though, this is by far the best altered book guide I've seen. Bravo! 😘💖
I have yet to try an altered book. I know a lot of people think it’s the easiest route to go. But if you’re going to do it right, it doesn’t seem easy at all. Like you said, you really have to think it through. When I’m ready to tackle an altered book, I will most definitely come back to your playlist. This is one of the best and most descriptive guides I’ve seen. Thanks!! 🤗❤️
Thank you so very much for making this video. I want to make an altered book and have watched many videos about it. I love yours! You’ve explained very well your process and I really appreciate that. I’m from the US and watched the series and loved it I didn’t know anything about the book until I saw your videos. I immediately went to thrift books and found 2 copies, I got both and can’t wait to get started! So ignore the naysayers great job and thank you again.😊
I guess I now have to check out charity shops for books with lovely covers. The ones you have are stunning! When I do find the right book, I will definitely alter it & follow your example. Thanks for sharing, Rachel. Hugs from Ireland.
Very informative about the structure of the spine. Best explanation I've seen so far. Thank you. Loved it. Yes I agree tearing into a book was very difficult for me. Cutting up beautiful pictures also.
Thank you Ann, it’s a difficult one isn’t it, we want to explain how to reuse and repurpose these books but without offending or aggravating. I’m glad you found the tutorial helpful. Xxx
Interesting. My first foray into junk journals was to use an altered book. I used an old cookbook that seemed the right size to me. Common sense told me to leave the signature stitches in and remove other pages. It worked just fine. That was last November so I made a Christmas book. A fascinating journey. My second one I am making is Fairyland my own book but it has a damaged cover. It feels like you are giving an unwanted book a new beginning. Thank you for explaining.😊
Thanks Rachel. I fell in love with some of these images and bought this book online for a decent price. I look forward to following your videos and altering it. TFS
Thank you so much for this tutorial Rachel. I tried an altered book a couple of years ago, but wasn't happy with it. I've never wanted to try again - till now! I shall certainly give it a go, when I find the right book. 😊❤
You crack me up! 😂 I remember the first page I tore out of a hymnal. I felt like I needed to explain to everyone that I bought it at a second hand book store, didn’t rip it out of a hymnal at church!!
Thanks for the tutorial! This was very helpful! I’ll rewatch this when I actually begin my altered book! I loved the tv story that this book is based on! 😊
I need to rewatch this entire series! I have a book I am taking out pages of but I need to watch your video to see how you did the small pages and attached other pages too.
Thank you so much for this video!! I wanted to see the process before I altered a book the wrong way. And I’m sure you keep the extra pages for other crafts. Usually everything gets repurposed. I love it. ❤
The page is called a Flyleaf. 😊 I just ordered this book from the website World of Books. They had 9 copies in very good and 3 in good condition. I purchased a Very Good for $5.39 + $1.99 shipping. I’ve bought books from them before and their customer service is excellent. The only thing is their shipping is SLOW but so cheap! Also, spend over $10 and the shipping is Free. But remember…. Be patient 😊❤ I used to be super precious about books, just ask my younger self with all her library awards. Lol I still cringe when someone dog ears a page but if I can repurpose, reuse and make something beautiful that can be treasured then I will do it! Do people only complain when you actually show deconstructing a book? Where do they think we get book pages for collage and masterboards from? ❤Xxx Congratulations to the winners! 🎉
All excellent point Lisa, I often think the old adage “What the eye doesn’t see, the heart doesn’t yearn for” applies mostly with UA-cam, if it’s in their face they moan, but never complain about the loose leaves 🥰. Oh I use World of Books. They are brilliant and the books are always in excellent condition! Have fun creating your Larkrise to Candleford xxx
Thank you, Rach! What a fantastic tutorial on the altered book. This helps a ton. I’m telling the book police that you gutted a book! For shame…LOL 😂. Hugs 🤗. Robin
Hello Rachel, thanks for the tips, they are so helpful. I felt as if the book police were gonna get me the first time I tore out book pages, even though it was falling apart. TFS
I have this "Lark Rise..." book and have been altering it because the illustrations are so beautiful. But the only way I had devised to cover the text bits that are left is to cover them with plain paper that could be journaled on. Your video is very helpful, because now I can see different ways to use those pages. Thank you!!
Bravo 👏 best explanation ever - & I’ve created 2 !! & like you said, for whatever reason this particular book 📕 is one of those I see all of the time . I have 1 soft cover and after looking for my large Dictionary in book case I found a hard cover - I honestly don’t believe I paid more than 5.00 US !! Never could quite understand why as both were like brand new w dust jacket and the images are absolutely gorgeous!!! eBay, Thrift books , Abe books, thrift / charity used book stores last resort Amazon 😉for those wanting to follow along !! Hugs all !! Again wonderful video .. looking forward to starting .. much love to you & mum of course ( I’m feeling awful last 2 days both j & I are miserable w grass pollen . He’s still going to the pharmacy but me, barely crafting 2 hrs most & that’s only to put up video to get up to my 4k hours I’m at 3,400+woop woop🍃- love you
Hi Rach! This has been very helpful and informative! You explain it so well! I’ve been wanting to try an altered book for awhile now! Thanks so much for this! Now to find just the right book which could be a challenge for sure, lol. ❤❤
Thank you so much h for doing this video. It has been very helpful. I had never seen this done before and I thought it was a very interesting concept for a journal. I want to give it a try.
Rach, you could make money by selling all those copies of that book you find! They are very expensive in the U.S. I just paid $15 for a copy that’s being mailed from Britain!
Not the one's you removed completely but the one's you partially removed and left a peice in to attach other pages or items to. How did you remove or cut away part of the page and get it straight without the rest of the book getting in the way while you were trying to cut? Did you use scissors or an exacto knife or something else to cut part of them off while leaving a peice of the page in the book?

Will bare that in mind lovely. Xxx
Wow awesoem. Congrats. Wish I could win too😍😍😍👌
Thanks for showing how to do this. How did you cut down the pages with them still in the book and get them straight?
Hi Tammy, do you mean the ones I removed? X
