Public Service Announcement: I fell asleep with the previous Jim Sterling video playing on my phone, and I ended up have Jim-filled dreams. Granted, they weren't sexy dreams or exciting dreams...he was basically showing me around his house, talking about changes he's made and money he has put into upgrades, then we discussed the current real estate market and where our houses fit into it in terms of resale value. So. Um. You've been warned?
18:30 - 18:35 : Jim suggests improvements to road saftey laws whilst mangling puny hatchbacks. Credit to you Jim, you didn't even pause mid sentence to acknowledge the bump in the interface that resulted from you ending the digital life of whichever family of 4 dared to try overtaking a truck in the inside lane. Made especially brutal by the fact that you had just checked the mirror which clearly showed the car approaching in the inside lane, but evidently on that occasion the needs of the meek did not outway the needs of the truck driver who never gets his license taken away.
At 4:00 it was amazing, the drifting slowly towards the camper van while not checking the left mirror because you were chatting etc. You reminded me of my dad when he was driving around these super dangerous cliffs on holiday one time with me when I was 10. *sudden camper van out of nowhere*
+Lee Lebensbaum It's different everywhere you go in the country because we're so spread out. In Texas, everyone uses the turn signal. Playing GTA V is infuriating because the bots don't signal and just suddenly turn out in front of me ALL THE TIME.
+Adahop You've never been to Austin, have you? I can't tell you how many times I've nearly been in a crash because people don't use their signals properly.
Narus Ferree I actually lived there for a year, but seldom drove unless I was going a long distance or driving back to Dallas. Even on a bike, though, I was amazed about how frequently people didn't look where they were going or signal properly.
Just to let everyone know. ATS is launch with 2 trucks and 2 states (California and Nevada). There are more trucks ready for release, SCS is waiting for the license. Also all future trucks and features are going to be free. The next map expansion is "Arizona" and that is going to be free aswell
I really hated how GTA V took away vigilante missions and jobs. There was so much potential to do more of them like driving a truck. I know you can do mission by buy specific buildings but I want easy jump in a vehicle and start the job. It's obvious GTA Online took up all their resources.
+Tintin Onacid It's actually a pretty good mod for causing mayhem, too. Crashing it is hilarious because the A.I. wasn't developed to stop before a wrecked train on the road (due to that not being a thing in the game, originally) so they just keep going and crash into the train at max speed, causing huge amounts of destruction on their own. I don't even have to do anything and I watch cars explode and people flipping out. It's great.
+Ventem Haha! Brilliant. Getting home (and access to my PC) can not come quick enough! Damn these family/social gatherings - always getting in the way of the far more important things in life. Those trains aren't going to drive themselves... (not strictly true - that was the problem to begin with).
Jim. I'll be honest. You are a menace. For the good of all mankind, you can't have a driving license of any kind or roads will have to be closed everytime you go for your Sunday drive XD
+Superbassio to be honest you dont need to look at your side mirrors when merging in ETS. everyone going on first lane just insta-break when you move in and if they are too close for that they are in your blindspot anyway.
No they have to be natural born citizens. You can be a natural born Citizens if your parents are citizens at the time of your birth. Ted crux has natural born citizenship despite being a Canadian by birth.
I'm jealous now, I hate that you get to play this before me. Seriously, I LOVE Truck Sim. EDIT: Now that I watched the video, I thank GOD for Jim not being a real truck driver. EDIT2: btw... you can change your mouse sensitivity in the in game options, it makes it easier to drive.
Keyboards for controlling a truck sim... yeah, because why not drive off the road. The mouse is a bit more precise and easier to control steering with. Think GTA 5 with a keyboard, it just doesn't work m8. What I'm referring to is, I can't shell out $300 to $400 for a steering wheel for this game.
This game doesn't truly simulate the trucker experience until they integrate a system that allows you to troll about for lot lizards. Fingers crossed DLC!
+Mika Rose (Sweetdeath) and then having to shit in a bucket when aforementioned egg sandwich turned out to be of questionable quality, and you're stuck on an 8 lane freeway with no truck-friendly exits
I really enjoy when UA-camrs viewbait for money by crashing their trucks on "accident" and act like it wasn't their fault, it's really really funny and different from what other big UA-camrs do, you're so original it hurts.
people playing "evil" characters usually just play jerks who insult and/or murder story anpcs and steal shit from the party. or they buttrape children and kick puppies, because Evil. *eyeroll* I have literally no faith the concept can be done with actual players.
+Rawbeard Naw. You just need people that actually play for the enjoyment of playing, rather than munchkins that just want to make the most optimized/best character. I rarely get my chars to even mid levels, as they tend to die due to acting on their flaws. Plus, with a good DM that can adapt well to unpredictable (as in, clearly refusing the follow intended path) players, you can sometimes get really fun adventures.
+Rawbeard We do evil well, I think. Our brand of evil in this campaign is very subtle. Right now we're posing as fortune tellers and pushing psychotropic drugs to convert a village over to our warlock patron. We agreed from the outset that the party are all in it together, no stealing or screwing each other over, and none of us are rocking chaotic evil. It works really well.
But what's the difference between American trucks and regular trucks? Do they have afterburners and jet engines and cool 80s style flame decals? I'm really hoping the answer is yes.
+Fission Mailure I wish the answer was yes...it's mostly the shape really. European-style truck cabs tend towards being flat at the front with the engine underneath the driver, American truck cabs are bigger and longer with a trunk that sticks out the front with the engine in.
If you enjoy looking around in games like this Jim, you should definitely get a TrackIR 5. I use mine for flight sims mainly but (if supported) it can be used in any sim really. It makes them feel so much more natural and engaging it is unreal. I can't play stuff like DCS:World or Elite Dangerous without mine anymore.. Also, I realise VR is on the way, but it is still worth getting as it's a different experience entirely.
Sarah Andrea Royce Yeah I can imagine, I'm more into the flying side of things in which case I would suggest the Thrustmaster Warthog. It costs a lot of money (like that wheel) But it is a genuine work of art, so satisfying to use, it ruins you for other flight sticks... I do keep meaning to buy a wheel and get more into racing games however... Hmmm.
Strazdas Not so, TrackIr has an exaggerated input that you can customise to your preferences. You only have to move your head a few inches (more or less if you wish) and this could translate to a full 180 rotation in any direction on screen. It's a weird sensation at first, but soon starts to feel very natural. It also has smoothing options to make it all less jarring if you wish. Excellent piece of hardware for any sim fan imo..
Also, realistically you avoid setting back my leaning out of the window. You use the mirrors. And with Track IR you can deactivate the hud one as you can now realistically look into the one on the other side.
i used to play euro truck sim 2, and one time i was traveling the highway and i fall asleep and crash onto the oncoming traffic. the game is just too real.
In ETS (so presumably this too) the mirror draw distance is really low by default, even when you put the settings up to max. If you go into Advanced, though, you can triple that and it barely touches the framerate.
I am a truck driver and I was watching this in my Kenworth 700. I cringed so hard that I actually teared up a bit. Love you, Jim, but please tell me when you are on the road so I can take my 10.
I feel like every time I've ever played DnD, people who've played a Drow have to make the distinction that they have nothing to do with Drizzt. Always give me a giggle.
Playing evil characters is why I like Shadowrun, since you run as a criminal by default. I like assassin mages with possession spirits. Nothing like making a mark jump to their death. Or possessing that pesky machine gunner laying down covering fire for the HTR team. ^_^
Been a long while since I played D&D, sounds like your still in 3.5. Gotta admit, I made so many classes and weird/custom builds to. What fun times those were.
I love Euro Truck Simulator 2 and it is a very relaxing game as you said Jim. But watching your haphazard driving was the most stressful thing i've seen in a long time! Do you know how many times you changed lanes without checking your wing mirrors mister!?!? :P
Jesus Jim, I thought I was bad at driving in ETS2... On the game, so it's basically ETS2 just with an American map. The Weigh Stations are new, and the cops actually showing up is new. I'll probably hold off until a sale to get it because it seems like more an expansion than a new game to be honest. Still, these guys know how to make a good simulator, and I look forward to wasting far too many hours playing it in the future.
At 18:30 on the video you can see Jim check on the rear view mirror and see a little family car with a single mother driver and two children try and overtake him. Enraged by this, Jim proceeds to pulverize them against the barrier with his 30 ton truck. But what really cracked me up is at the end of the job he's happy about the fact he didn't "lose money on the job". He got two speeding tickets at 1k a pop and $920 in damages, earning him a SOLID 95 bucks for driving overnight from LA to Fresno. Jim mate you got to see an union man
Games like this more than any other are why I'd want VR. I need to be able to head look at the mirrors and not have to worry about using an analogue stick or grabbing the mouse or something.
+Jeffery Sparks He said he did in the video. Plus I remember him mentioning it on Podtoid at the time, and there's an intro to a Jimquisition where he's playing ETS2 and is like "Just watch the fucking show, I'm driving trucks!".
One thing I immediately notice is that the skybox looks better. It's been about a year since I last played Euro though, so I could be wrong. The sky just looks... nice. Especially the sunset at 8:55 that just looks beautiful. I see the mirror draw distances are still atrocious/langolier-esque in that everything 15 feet beyond is destroyed. But otherwise are the graphics improved?
I saw Chungus and for a good 5 seconds thought that was one of the default character names before remembering. It seems like a trucker name that would be in MURICA truck sim.
Starts driving, 20 seconds later crashes in front of an ambulance and a police car, continues driving as if nothing happened. WHO HIRED THIS GUY!
+Doctor Drummer all that white male privilege has to be good for something.
+ultimatechucknorris Not sure, but at least he made the delivery!
+ultimatechucknorris Swift
randy pitchford
Public Service Announcement: I fell asleep with the previous Jim Sterling video playing on my phone, and I ended up have Jim-filled dreams. So. Um. You've been warned?
I've hitchhiked in a lot of trucks, I'm glad none of the drivers drove like Jim.
glad I'm not the only weirdo who actually enjoys legitimate simulator games. specifically Euro Truck. xP
People using the turn signal?
This isn't America.
They do in Minnesota XD
+Narus Ferree Yeah, but Austin has all of the California drivers due to the recent migration boom.
is it wrong that I honestly just enjoy listening to Jim ramble he plays 'low key' games like this?
"Nothing ever goes wrong from ignoring our problems." Immediately my Internet cuts out. Thanks Jim.
The fact that Jim wouldn't turn the lights on at night the first time had me rolling off the seat.
Just to let everyone know. ATS is launch with 2 trucks and 2 states (California and Nevada). There are more trucks ready for release, SCS is waiting for the license. Also all future trucks and features are going to be free. The next map expansion is "Arizona" and that is going to be free aswell
+Dawid Sopata There better be a NYC expansion later on. That way everyone can see how we NYers drive :P
+Dawid Sopata Yea but once they're done with the 'free' states they'll start charging you 5-10 bucks a state.
***** Yea the Alaska Ice Roads would be fun but I'm not sure if they'll be doing Canada since the 51st state hasn't been annexed yet.
+Dragonsamurai We already know how NYers drive. It's a lot like Jim in this video.
Blu_Haze But Jim is too friendly when driving. NYers would rather call you a fuck face if you cut them off. I know I would.
I think you role played being a truck driver well. You were all over the road like you were drunk or on drugs. 10/10
I really hated how GTA V took away vigilante missions and jobs. There was so much potential to do more of them like driving a truck. I know you can do mission by buy specific buildings but I want easy jump in a vehicle and start the job.
It's obvious GTA Online took up all their resources.
Agreed
Plus I used to LOVE driving trains in older GTA games. Such a shame they took it out for GTA V.
Makes no sense.
+Tintin Onacid There's a mod that allows you to drive trains.
no1DdC Ooh! I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up. :)
+Tintin Onacid
It's actually a pretty good mod for causing mayhem, too.
You're right about this game being relaxing. This video helped me go to sleep.
it might be zen for you but watching you play this has almost given me multiple heart attacks
It was so painful to watch him steer with a keyboard instead of a mouse.
"This isn't legal, I don't think, what I'm doing here, but there are no cops about, so it's fine."
I too take this approach to driving.
I loved it when Jim blatantly ignored that he side swiped a truck. He just continued going on about D&D. Priceless.
I gotta say, there's something very calming about these Truck Simulator games.
next year: Canadian Truck Simulator.
+WereWING11
I can already see it
"Sorry I bumped your car, eh"
No, either as a Going North DLC or takes a few years to make
World simulator they say
+WereWING11 The year after that, Australian Truck Simulator.
+PoisoNico93 "Oh yeah, sorry eh, I got your paint scratched up a little there."
Jim: "This isn't GTA, you can't just whiz it in, gotta play it safe." (Flies onto highway full speed without looking.) XD
Chungus looks like he could legitimately be Jim Sterling's father.
I think Chungus looks like a character played by Rainn Wilson
These are some of the few really good simulator games that still come out.
0:01 We now have a face to the name "Chungus".
Jim. I'll be honest. You are a menace. For the good of all mankind, you can't have a driving license of any kind or roads will have to be closed everytime you go for your Sunday drive XD
Your attitude to driving is very similar to mine when I'm driving a real truck.
God bless whoever gave you a license for trucking.
"You've got to play it safe"
*merges onto the highway without looking in his side mirror*
+Superbassio to be honest you dont need to look at your side mirrors when merging in ETS. everyone going on first lane just insta-break when you move in and if they are too close for that they are in your blindspot anyway.
Sorry JIm, but presidents have to be born in America. We would't want a sensible European running our country, now would we? :P
+TheJrbdog I saw we make wherever Jim was born in the UK a state.
No they have to be natural born citizens. You can be a natural born Citizens if your parents are citizens at the time of your birth. Ted crux has natural born citizenship despite being a Canadian by birth.
Connor Hill WW2 was essentially caused by Hitler. I don't think he was sensible.
Connor Hill I know. I was playing along.
+Weasle GoftheToftheX who the fuck drives with a mouse?
Apparently I do... because I'm poor... and suck...
Weasle GoftheToftheX you cant afford a keyboard?
Keyboards for controlling a truck sim... yeah, because why not drive off the road. The mouse is a bit more precise and easier to control steering with. Think GTA 5 with a keyboard, it just doesn't work m8.
What I'm referring to is, I can't shell out $300 to $400 for a steering wheel for this game.
Weasle GoftheToftheX keyboard is far easier to steer with than a mouse in both ETS and gta 5.
Can't believe how much I enjoyed this gameplay.
You ever considered livesteaming one of your D&D sessions? Sounds like it could be a laugh.
This is what I've always imagined Chungus to look like.
When you drove on the shoulder to get around the back-up I laughed so hard. Thank you.
Sterling + driving = hazard :D
If I ever board a car with just you, I'm driving, dude.
+Stereo3DProductions you are, he doesnt have a license and cant drive.
I like US trucks better than European trucks imo.
+Flakjacket96 having US trucks in Eurotruck 2 would've been perfect for me, not that a good old DAF isn't fun for a Dutchman like me.
+maglorian There are mods that do exactly that.
+Flakjacket96 There's an actual difference?
+Flakjacket96 they look cooler but perform worse.
This game doesn't truly simulate the trucker experience until they integrate a system that allows you to troll about for lot lizards. Fingers crossed DLC!
+Gentlemenhugs I hope they add in a DLC to stop at Gas stations and eat a 25cent egg sandwich.
+Mika Rose (Sweetdeath) and then having to shit in a bucket when aforementioned egg sandwich turned out to be of questionable quality, and you're stuck on an 8 lane freeway with no truck-friendly exits
+Gentlemenhugs Unrelated to your post, but rather to your username and avatar: I DON'T WANT THOSE HUGS.
weylin6 I was thinking more along the lines of getting superhuman strength from the worms living in the egg sandwich.
What the hell! These guys just ripped off Euro Tru....
...oh wait...
+TimedropStudios I see what you did there.
+TimedropStudios good one!
smells of PR in here...
"The xanax of gaming."
The most accurate description ever.
I really enjoy when UA-camrs viewbait for money by crashing their trucks on "accident" and act like it wasn't their fault, it's really really funny and different from what other big UA-camrs do, you're so original it hurts.
This one was fun because the relaxed gameplay seemed to incite Jim to talk a lot more :3
people playing "evil" characters usually just play jerks who insult and/or murder story anpcs and steal shit from the party. or they buttrape children and kick puppies, because Evil.
Plus, with a good DM that can adapt well to unpredictable (as in, clearly refusing the follow intended path) players, you can sometimes get really fun adventures.
what the fuck has "optimizing" to do with the issue at hand? keep your "real player" bullshit were it belongs. your butt. it belongs in your butt.
Does anyone else hear bagpipes playing in the background?
+Rawbeard We do evil well, I think. Our brand of evil in this campaign is very subtle. Right now we're posing as fortune tellers and pushing psychotropic drugs to convert a village over to our warlock patron. We agreed from the outset that the party are all in it together, no stealing or screwing each other over, and none of us are rocking chaotic evil. It works really well.
+Jim Sterling As a DM, your current DM is a good one. Hold on to him. Adapting a race for anything less than the entire party? Wow. That's commitment.
But what's the difference between American trucks and regular trucks? Do they have afterburners and jet engines and cool 80s style flame decals? I'm really hoping the answer is yes.
+nemofoot oh
+nemofoot Why the fuck you would you want an M-16 over say, an M-4, or an Ar-15? Unless you like the classics.
They drive themselves.
+Fission Mailure Any physical contact with an American truck causes a massive explosion. It's our way. Shrapnel and burning bodies everywhere.
+Fission Mailure I wish the answer was yes...it's mostly the shape really. European-style truck cabs tend towards being flat at the front with the engine underneath the driver, American truck cabs are bigger and longer with a trunk that sticks out the front with the engine in.
You know what this game really needs?
is a mod that records youfrom the passengers perspective
so we can feel like were on a road trip with Jim XD
A new game by SCS Software? Yay! Euro Truck Simulator 2 was awesome, I hope this one is good too.
I usually go human too. That free feat is hard to pass up. Sterling and Milk 2016.
If Australian Truck Simulator becomes a thing I wanna drive the war rig.
+bowser515 Add a G27 to the mix and you have a really great experience.
Sarah Andrea Royce
Yeah I can imagine, I'm more into the flying side of things in which case I would suggest the Thrustmaster Warthog. It costs a lot of money (like that wheel) But it is a genuine work of art, so satisfying to use, it ruins you for other flight sticks... I do keep meaning to buy a wheel and get more into racing games however... Hmmm.
+bowser515 there is a downside though, you cant look behind you because you cant see the screen anymore.
Strazdas
Not so, TrackIr has an exaggerated input that you can customise to your preferences.
He seems like the kinda guy who'd enjoy Truck Driving Sim: Russia
Garage? Hear that fellas? Garaaaage. La di da, Mr. French Man.
Every time Jim says "see ya," Burns gets in a helicopter.
Out of all the games Jim's played on this channel, this is first time I've found myself yelling, "No, Jim, don't!" at the screen. Stressful. :P
i used to play euro truck sim 2, and one time i was traveling the highway and i fall asleep and crash onto the oncoming traffic. the game is just too real.
2 minutes in and i'm pissing myself laughing at Jim's virtual driving
Wow either the draw distance on the rear view mirror is really low or something is eating the world about 50 meters behind the truck.
In ETS (so presumably this too) the mirror draw distance is really low by default, even when you put the settings up to max. If you go into Advanced, though, you can triple that and it barely touches the framerate.
Langoliers.
+CarlyleA999 default mirror distance setting is pretty low. Jim probably didnt check settings as he seems to never do with these games.
That's hysterical! Thanks for pointing it out!
That actually was something I used to daydream about on long car journey. We were actually driving away from a big monster eating the world behind us.
I am a truck driver and I was watching this in my Kenworth 700. I cringed so hard that I actually teared up a bit. Love you, Jim, but please tell me when you are on the road so I can take my 10.
+JimSterling what controller setup are you using?
"It's like the Xanax of gaming... You feel like everything's going to be okay." 🙂
I feel like every time I've ever played DnD, people who've played a Drow have to make the distinction that they have nothing to do with Drizzt. Always give me a giggle.
The world is a safer place for the fact that Jim doesn't drive.
This game is the polar opposite of Darkest Dungeon.
I've always wanted to do an evil campaign, especially as something you'd usually find in the monster manual.
Do a live broadcast of your D&D game. Might as well get a few thousand view on that! I'd watch the shit out of it
I love Euro Truck Simulator 2 and it is a very relaxing game as you said Jim. But watching your haphazard driving was the most stressful thing i've seen in a long time! Do you know how many times you changed lanes without checking your wing mirrors mister!?!? :P
You and Yahtzee can truck together!
it's a bit of a shock to see a simulator that actually is a sim.
For the first time, the character actually looks like he could be named Chungus.
I swear when you said "Great Old One" the first couple times I heard "Great Ovum."
That opening though
Still waiting for that review of The Witness you said you were going to do. Though having a review of a proper simulator game would be fun as well.
The name Chungus fits that dude so well, lol
Jim you're triggering my straight camera OCD
"I'm a professional!" -Jim Sterling 2016.
...I actually legitimately showed up at the 301-view mark.
Am I in 2014 again? I don't wanna go back...

Your opening hit close to home :)
I love a good simulator a shame they're so rare thanks to it becoming a meme.
good to know jim like to look back
Ya don't need a toilet stall there boss, that's what the sleeper cab behind you is for.
I find these games to be relaxing.
Ah, that takes me back to when I was somehow incapable to do a proper right turn in ETS2.
... nobody needed the traffic lights I crashed into anyway.
"You gotta play it safe." -- pulls onto a highway without looking at his friggin' mirror.
Aside from being in the US, is this any different from Euro Truck Simulator 2? And how does the interconnet stuff work? I've heard there's some
Games like this more than any other are why I'd want VR.
I need to be able to head look at the mirrors and not have to worry about using an analogue stick or grabbing the mouse or something.
So I wonder if Jim loved Euro Truck Simulator 2?
+Jeffery Sparks He said he did in the video. Plus I remember him mentioning it on Podtoid at the time, and there's an intro to a Jimquisition where he's playing ETS2 and is like "Just watch the fucking show, I'm driving trucks!".
+rockchapelboy92
I think he was being sarcastic
+Sophie Hagena He wasn't. His description of the relaxing headspace it puts you in was pretty much on-point. ETS2 is great.
+Sophie Hagena Ah, my bad! Insert the "Whooosh" picture here. :P
+Adahop The guy asking it was....you know since Jim said it three or four times.
Trucks got lower speed limits than your average car.
You are one hilarious you tuber!!!!
I would pay big money to play D+D with Uncle Jimmy Jim Jim Jim.
Speed limit is 55 on highways. It is the little white box on your Sat Nav. Bottom left corner.
Does this truck have headlights?

Jesus Christ! Mental note: Don't get in a car with Jim Sterling
No jim, there is a dire mystery to solve. That mystery is why we as the driver are trapped in these vehicles.

I'm looking forward to the return of Sterling/Milk for President, Jim.
I saw Chungus and for a good 5 seconds thought that was one of the default character names before remembering. It seems like a trucker name that would be in MURICA truck sim.
I'D DRIVE YOUR TRUCK, JIM.
Preparing for the Sequel: *Mexican truck simulator*
