Excellent review. I honestly didn’t like the look of the wheel at first, but it’s growing on me after watching several different reviews on it. Love the fact that you can buy the base package for a reasonable price and add to it later. Going to be a great year for sim racing, bad year for my wallet.

Great review and video Jason, and comments were spot 👍 I received mine a couple of weeks ago, and very impressed with it. Note though that I haven't raced a sim in nearly 15 years and was using a logitech momo wheel then 😆 this is a world away from that. Also new to the Fanatec eco-system, I found the base setup for most sims on the Fanatec forums a great starting point - each sim has it's own forum and settings are normally in a pinned thread
Spot on review, received mine last week and set my new rig up at the weekend, finally attached the wheel and tried it out tonight and blown away by how good it is, I went for load cell and can't believe how good it all is as a package, very happy and glad I watched your review thumbs up

I have ordered mine the base one and added the load cell, i did play around with getting a tgt 2 however im glad i have gone for a fanatec even though its a long wait, i plan to add the boost kit but glad for the review feels me with confidence that i have made the right decision. The bolts i ordered from ebay as well
Gr8 vid as always pal the way you spoke about the difference between direct drive and a belt slash gear driven system has me itching to try 1 out.
What a great review and introduction. I almost pre-order one but I chickened out since I won't use it much (and I would like to get a new rig) but there is no doubt in my mind that the CSL DD is the wheel base to get.

Hi jason, I bought mine 4 weeks ago. I previously owned a G29.
Once you used your DD there is no going back to a belt driven wheel.
After 2 weeks I decided to order the 8Nm boost kit. The little details while racing ACC on my PS5 is way better with the boost kit. Next in line is the loadcell brake.

Thanks for the review. I feel like it was balanced and didn't use all the same nomenclature a lot of sim gear reviewers use that not everyone can relate with. I ordered one of these some time ago with the boost kit and load cell, waiting for it still as they are still in preorder for the US. That said I cant wait till it gets here... and I cant wait to use it for my favorite PC sims AND GT7. I Really like how this with the addition of a wheel for xbox serves all 3 major platforms, no other wheel on the market does that.

Also I have to say this is finally a real review of this product, all the big time sim racing channels review these after coming off their $10k rigs. It's great to see the perspective of someone coming from a belt driven to a dd
Grrrrr I was gonna get a t300 (casual racer) and have been fighting the urge on the DD Pro but now it just has to be a DD Pro even if it means waiting a few weeks to have the extra cash as I know long term if I got a belt driven I will be yearning for a DD. Great review as always and grats on turning 50 btw, same age as moi, us oldies are maturing like a fine wine :)

Mine's arriving tomorrow, cancelled my order for the full kit including load cell and went for the DD Pro, 8nm boost kit and the clubsport V3 pedals. Bought a load of 8020 profile and building my own rig. fingers crossed it's ready in time for March 5th. Also fingers crossed the wife doesn't work out how much this all costs. :-)
I have a CSL Elite and three rims. So the base only is my interest. Although that base rim seems awesome for GT7/GTS.
Welcome to the fanatec ecosystem you will certainly notice the difference from thrustmaster ( not hating on thrustmaster at all) I have a csl elite but I'm currently looking at the DD pro I can imagine your over the moon with your setup enjoy pal hope you and your family are well Jason

I have had GT DD pro 3 weeks now and wow what a diffrence from thrustmaster I bought the mclaren wheel also so all bases covered for gaming i got stung with 145 pound import tax from UPS I have just got the clutch pedal from ebay brand new so I'm well happy with the setup the downside that import tax

How does the pedals feel? Does the gas pedal feels lose or does it fits real?. Can you make the steering wheel hard (resistance when turning? or does it also feels lose?)
I have a csl elite so I won't get one of these until I can just buy the base, I would recommend getting a better wheel though. I have the f1 esports rim and it's a beauty
Great review Jason,. I currently have the CSL Elite for PC and PlayStation. Was looking on Fanatec website and the DD base only (as I have the wheel and pedals) says "PC & XBOX". Surely you can use on PlayStation as well?
No the DD won’t work on the PlayStation because it dont have the chip where as the DD pro has the chip that allows it to work with the PlayStation but you can use the DD pro on the Xbox you just have to get a rim that is compatible with the Xbox because it has the chip in the rim not the base but that rim will also work on PlayStation, so basically PlayStation put the chips in the base and Xbox put them in the wheel rims
Nice wheel,but very pricey. Not to mention the shipping costs which are well a little over the top. Like your self rubber rim and plastics on wheel look cheap, so all I will say is you get what you pay for. Nice review by the way.
Could you please post the wheel and ingame settings beeing used ? Maybe for GT7 as well? I am really struggling to find my proper settings. Would be very much appreciated.

Ive just received my loadcell kit and boost kit, the wheel and pedals are on their way.
I just had a look at the controller settings in GT Sport (am getting GT7, tho), and cannot see the new wheel listed on there. The CSL Elite is the only Fanatec wheel listed. Do you think I have to wait for the release of GT7 to be able to use it in Gran Turismo, and do you think this compatability issue would mean I could not use the new DD wheel in GT Sport?
Also, the loadcell brake: I've tried compressing it by hand - it barely budges. No, its not mounted to the rig yet, but still, this seems damn hard to move at all. Can brake pedal pressure be adjusted in-game? I realise that the brake cannot be adjusted in the unit itself (the V3s can).

Is it possible to add the ClubSport f1 steering wheel to this base or will it not be compatible? New to sim racing so looking to buy my first rig!
It will work with any of the Fanatec eco system wheels.

My wheel oscillates even on straightaways , real cars dont behave that way, i know there is something wrong, losing control on basic turns where it would never happen with a controller. My firmware and settings are updated, please help if you know a fix. Fanatec support email takes 7 days to get a response!
It’s definitely a good wheel, especially for the size. I wasn’t a fan, despite its functionality, of the of the rim when I was looking at pictures, I thought they silver and colours make it look a little toy-like? However, in your video, in more natural lighting, I think it looks great! Anyway, do you think this is one you’ll use permanently now? Bet you’d miss the SF1000 although I imagine cross-platform connectivity would be nice (if you ever did use the Xbox lol)

@@Potmonkey00 you might have misunderstood my comment (my bad) but when I was referring to the wheel at the start, I was talking about the base, I then went on to caveat with a statement about the rim, which mind you, has definitely grown on me.
This base turnt me out! I'm now a shameless wheel whore with 6, counting the included GT7 wheel. Lolz!
Building my GT dd pro + LCP and 8nm booster as we speak currently looking for an angled mounting plate since it's on a gt playseat and it's very horizontal :(
Actually just found a link for the brackets on Amazon £22 for 10x but they are solid and will work perfectly with a little thread lock 🔐
why no reviewer never talk about gt 7 and dd pro wheel rotation settings?
plz tell me that u can custom set wheel rotation and it never change depending on the cars u driving like they do with g29 and t300? g 29 and t300 keep changing between 600 or 900 wheel rotation depending ion the cars with i find very annoying

i want my own f1 280 degree of ration on all cars in gt 7
You should try this wheel with AMS2 and rfactor 2, trust me you havent seen what this wheel can do until you play them with it.
Also i dont have that noise from my pedals.

Great review. I was literally about to order one but was confused by the shipping costs/duty to pay. Anyone ordered one? If so could you help understand how much i would pay in total?
You would have to pay an additional 20% VAT on top of the price of the goods, plus an additional Customs Duty of 2.5% for any item over £135.
When I went to order, the item was being charged at €606.73 including the delivery to the UK. I worked out the total cost for the basic package to be around £750 in total. If anyone from the UK has ordered one, can you confirm the total cost?

IMO if you have the CSL Elite F1 series v2.5 it’s a waste of money ti upgrade but that’s my opinion a lot of ppl say you can’t get detailed FFB from one I get incredible detail from mine but I’ve noticed most ppl don’t know how to set there wheel up HEI the higher you have that the lower you FFB detail is the lower the number the more detail you get and in games like GTS a lot of ppl put force to 10 and FFB detail to 1 and wonder why it’s just pure force it’s best to have them set the same to get the best detailed FFB from GTS on my experience anyways you might wanna try turning detail up if the detail isn’t enough but they shouldn’t be at too different ends like I run 5/5 atm if I want more detail I go to 5/6 or 5/7 depending on the lvl of detail I want in the FFB when I get a DD it’s gonna be a DD1 or a DD2 it’s only double the cost of a DD Pro so I might as well keep what I have save a few extra bucks and get the real deal instead of cheap entry lvl DD and I have V3 pedals /w performance kit already just need the handbrake and shifter to finish my ecosystem and a round rim would be nice cause I like to play Rally Cross games, and definitely getting a new seat for my sim probably a Sparco Rev Bucket seat they look comfy SuperGT sat in one for like 28 hours so it can’t be that bad

Oh my God the pedal noise is loud. I pre ordered mine and will install it in the living room where my wife is watching TV. I think she is gonna kill me because of the pedal metal noise.

Lol I ordered one of these and have been waiting a while. I guess I should have used my YT pull and requested one in exchange for a review. Seems like they are prioritizing reviewers instead of people who paid for them.... oh well I'll know better next time. Free and sooner certainly would have been better than paying and waiting.
You need to BORROW a PC/laptop not LEND one. Lending is when you silly someone else. Borrowing is where someone else supplies you with something.

so much wrong info in this review its terrible. it is not essential at all to update firmware and you cannot update firmware with a mac!
INSANE Dictatorship from SONY!!! Not letting Fanatec use their brillant ergonomic system. Absolutely disgusting. Forcing you to have that cheap looking, badly designed wheel that's to small. Fanatec having to plead with Sony to sell DD Base on its own. Sony sales down, Sony respect down. People should avoid this product
