I love watching you guys fight, I wish I had found Dagorhir earlier, however I still take inspiration from you all in the LARP my platoon mates and I created. heh besides the middle of Kansas is like a wasteland of no larps lol
Its things like this that have encouraged me to bring the forms of lightsaber combat into dagorhir as a formal style of training. Everyone in these videos is already using them without knowing it.
+Ishvallan .Newgate I have the same feeling with German, Italian, and Spanish long-sword (spanish more so as the odds move away from your favor) in so many videos I see people talking about certain strikes and guards and just say "well thats clearly from Fiore" or the like whether or not they realize it. Every now and then I see some stuff from Japan though I am far less acquainted with that and can not identify it as easily
A red is a swung weapon meant to be used with two hands. There are two classes of swung weapons: blue and red. Blue is a sword/club/mace/axe held in one hand and swung. Red is a claymore/club/warmaul/battleaxe used in two hands. The main benefit of reds is their ability to "break" shields. Two solid hits from a red swung with both hands will cause a shield to "break" and be useless for anything except being weight. If a red is held in one hand and swung, it is considered a blue. Reds ignor armor
Jesus..I have seen this video countless times. The man in the red fights like a fucking demon. I'd love to learn this style of foam fighting. Coming from Amtgard, this is a completely different skillset.
Ill be at Octfest as well! I reccomend red made by barley. I think he may be there but the event location changed so I dont know who will be at the event.
Awesome! i adore Dag. However id like if someone could tell me anything about how to find blue foam or whats its primary uses!I cant find it here in Greece. Thenk you for your time. Help me pls
Dac, I'm headed to Ockfest in Illinois in 3 days and am looking for good reds, how much do reds averagely cost? and do you know of anyone selling good reds down there?
Any way to build weapons has to do with foam swim tubes and pvc pipe, the combat that happens is real, simply imagine the weapons you make are yielding sharpened edges and are ready to kill. This is a very thrilling and extremly physical sport, not for the weak of heart :D
Be warned, though, if you're getting into it- PVC and pool noodle won't last you past your beginner weapons. The tech that goes into the high-end weapons can be pretty impressive.
Earthenfist Routed 4lb fry, 2lb microcell striking surface, ensolite stab tip and doubled fiberglass core blue for life. Alric makes master race swords.
I'm a hammer guy myself (blue or red), so I don't need to worry as much about the layers themselves- you want a little bulk and so can get away with less durable materials. But I find that attention to detail and precision in construction (as well as letting the DAP cure properly) can make up for sub-par materials as well.
Based around the Emerald Tides, but also loosely affiliated with the Fighting Highlanders of Edinboro University. I kinda went quiet over winter, but hope to get back into it now that the weather's nicer. Looking forward to making a new min-red axe now that the weather is warm enough for the DAP to set right.
I do have to say, that their technique could have definitely been better. For one, they should have always followed through with an attack and evaded as needed (simply by stepping backwards). Following through with your attacks instead if recoiling allows for much quicker progressions, and leaves you a lot less open than you would believe. For two, I noticed a lot that they would constantly leave the weapon facing away from the opponent. As this would allow you to make a strike quicker, it also leaves you exposed. Keep your weapon between you and the opponent and start with a pseudo lunge as that is the easiest to hit (albeit not the most lethal) as well as being easy to pull away or start another strike. These only really apply for swords, as I don't think you can lunge with a hammer, and you definitely want your hammer always on stand by attack rather than being an obstacle.
i counted sooooo many head shots....jesus reds gotta be careful man. getting a red in the melon can cause major injury. some of these guys were a little wild with their high swings.......
love this vid. most combat videos i've seen are just mush but here you can really see what's happening, i.e. how the fight is unfolding
thank you sir!

Does anyone know of a good UA-cam Video showing how to make some of these weapons being used in this video?
Can you refer me to contact info to Barley? Does he show up with reds or is it a commission basis?
