Love ya Trogly but gotta say it makes me very sad that the Maltese Cross is mostly associated with a dweeby motorcycle show from the mid 2000s.
That cross looks a lot more Iron than Maltese

I usually prefer more understated aesthetics, but wow, some of the guitars in this episode really look incredible.
Some of that inlay work is so amazing that it literally looks like it's electrified and backlit with lighting. Stunning.
I think the blue Washburn was commissioned by Scott Chinnery
I knew Scott personally, fun guy with a strange appetite for toys. He had so many blue guitars it was crazy. He also had the original batmobile.
@@len21966 he seemed like a cool guy, it was sad that he died so young, I'm English and he always struck me as the archetypal American playboy with all his toys. In the Chinnery collection book there's a lefty D'Angelico that I was offered but it was just out of my price range at the the time.... the next time I see it it's in the book 🙂.... I still have the photos and keep them at that page in the book
There is black abalone, so they could have used that for the dark part of the Pandas.
Another option could have been Jet, a mineraloid (it’s actually ancient wood that’s petrified under heat and pressure)

The Wolf was obviously made for looks (and it looks fabulous) but you would never have a maple top on a fully acoustic instrument built to sound great

I'm a HUGE fan of both "Art Guitars" and letting the beauty of the wood speak for itself. That Martin with the wolf is one of the finest examples of both I have ever seen. Thanks so much for sharing.

Every time I see that panda inlay, I think the ears are eyes and the eyes are nose holes, so it looks more like a hippie hippo to me.

Why? I mean most of them arent for playing. I'd absolutely love to have that Washburn dolphin hollowbody though, ide play that all the time, along with the Panda J185 and Martin Wolf. The others are too expensive to take a chance on playing.

My only problem is that you'd have to put me in a padded room before I would even think about picking any of these up. All my well loved guitars, tend to look...well loved. But its fine because they're all cheap cheerful players grade stuff. If you handed me one of these, id start to hyperventilate.
As I understand it, all pandas are property of the Chinese government and as such, they all have Chinese names. However, there is a “furry” named Jennifer Panda but I don’t think that’s what inspired that guitar! 😂
4 Pandas are not owned by China. 3 in Taiwan & 1 in Mexico.

Just totally awesome & WAY beyond anything I could ever imagine owning. I mean, maybe if I was a BILLIONAIRE yet those are pieces that truly don't deserve to be played IMO just adorned behind glass or in a museum. I saw a few of those Martin's while taking the tour there, amazing looking! Yes I did say between 150K & 200K for that one you asked about. I mean, the craftsmanship on ALL of those tonight are just beyond gorgeous. Thanks for sharing his page, I would never have looked there.

People generally scoff at the art guitars because we can purchase similar versions from other brands made in Asia at a fraction of the cost. And seeing those in person is not nearly as impressive as seeing a real Gibson art guitar in person. And if you don't know there's a big difference then you wouldn't know they are two very different experiences just by the pics alone. I had a really dressed up Ibanez Destroyer with the abalone, art inlays, figured top, but with very little movement. I thought it was awesome to my young eye, until I held a Gibson Butterfly in my hands years later. Two very different levels.
Absolutely. I've seen some videos of the Blueberry Guitar shop in Indonesia with their art guitars which are the epitome of art guitars, none of which I'd own, but have their own charm. However, they pale in comparison to the work that goes into the Gibsons.
