Love that Quilt SG Custom, but I didnt love it at $8000. Gorgeous for sure though
Abstract tends to be sharp but not realistic. The easiest example would be Dali’s “Persistence of Memory”(the melting clocks). The guitar you mentioned is closer to Impressionism, where the contrasts of color, light and dark leave an impression of what is being conveyed, but not in a realistic way.

I was waiting to hear what you had to say about that SG custom. It's probably the one of the nicest I've ever seen. I'm a sucker for quilt and I'm a sucker for an SG. That thing is gorgeous 4 pieces or not.

I picked up the “Winter Impressions” ‘57 Special, looks even better in person! The sparkle effect on the back is more noticeable in person
There were pics of the flames neck tribute on Facebook from whoever bought it. Looked great
The blue quilted SG was amazing, everything I wanted in a fancy guitar.
That first SG can be of two pieces, but the rear will be quite mismatched side by side.
Think about it like this, you have a thick slab of wood that's good enough to cover half the guitar's width, so you slice it in two and spread them like a book, hence the term. The patterns match, because when you slice a 200 page book in half, you have the pages 100 and 101 right next to each other, which will be quite similar. However, on the other side, you have pages 1 and 200, which don't look similar at all. This is why it's a better idea to use four pieces of wood instead of two, otherwise the rear will look too awkward.
This is also why Gibson can't really do perfect bookmatched tops on Les Pauls. Again, imagine to book analogy. You have the pages 100 and 101 perfectly matched, but then you carve the wood away to turn it into a les paul where the center is thicker than the edges. That means, in the center of the guitar, you have pages 95 and 105, which are still quite similar and will have a good bookmatched appearance but towards the edges of the guitar, you've carved so much material, you're down to pages 80 and 120, which will be somewhat mismatched.
Have a look at all those "bad quality" bookmatched Les Pauls, they're still matched quite well in the center of the guitar, close to the bridge and the pickups. You can only notice the issue towards the bottom of the guitar, next to the strap button, where the wood is significantly carved away.
The reason PRS can get away with this is their guitars are not as heavily carved, simple as that.
9:28 a few years ago I ordered a LP Faded T that came with a highly flamed neck similar to this. And still to this day I swear the body is one piece. Still no obvious lines or sink lines saying otherwise.

Merry Christmas everyone. Be safe and have a great time with friends and family. Is it me or did anyone else see two skulls behind the stop bar on that quilt top SG. I'm glad they didn't put a natural maple fretboard on that SG. The lp right after looked to be a marble like finish then I got ocean front vibes when it was inverted. Love it as well as the SG before. Metallic jade reminds me of a pelham blue but darker. Whoever scooped up that Honeyburst came out smelling like a rose on that deal. All in all that first SG was my favorite.
I’d like to see a LP made with maple and Resin like the tables people are making today! I think it would be sick!
I'd love to see a "snowflake" looking big metal flake finish or binding. Or like a frost on glass look

i got lucky with a tribute that had a great top on it, had that 50’s curl. sold it tho because i already have a honey burst i’ve done up how i want so the tobacco burst flame top had to go.
That 1 piece heavily flame maple neck Tribute LP…well the headstock wings don’t really count as pieces, but they also don’t really match… I know it’s a thing to not have to remove so much wood, but Gibson USA should do an actual all one piece headstock in maple, at least once.
The Les Paul Special with the impressionist style paint job is stunning

I feel the SG is one of the SG supremes that they’re coming out with soon. Too different from a regular SG custom to be anything but with the supreme inlays, full maple construction and the quilt top and back
The SG supreme blanks that h e been leaked have mahogany backs and are Gibson USA produced. This SG was likely a custom order that was blemished

0:28 is it just me that sees two faces on each side of the center seam line right across from rhe knobs on thst SG? The left one sort of a negative. Kind of spooky!

Any advice for a guy who appreciates a fat Gibson neck profile, but with totally modern features, SS frets, etc….
While being a unique shape or at least a Tele shape of it’s going to be common….
I’m very into EBMM but find their necks a little to thin for my tastes. With the exception of one Mariposa I tried…
Anyway, I’ve always been torn. I’m bored by Gibson designs and they’re commitment to tradition, but love their 50s necks..

How involved is the process of swapping out your neck for a new one? (Bolt-on)
I have an ML3 Bea Pro that is nearly perfect in every way..
My only complaint is that the neck profile becomes a little too slim between the 1st and 3rd fret, while having a chunky volute. The volume wouldn’t at all be a problem if it wasn’t so slim at the very first fret.. it gets pretty chunky pretty quick beyond that, but yeah…
Also, it has to be a flamed maple Tele neck, with SS frets, AND a multi ply build. That’s the hard part…
I’ve seen some on Etsy that are tempting, but they’re one piece…
Lastly, given that it’s a Chapman, it has a reverse Tele style headstock…
I know it’s ugly, but I sanded mine down and reshaped it to be round and I love it. It would look way better as a regular Tele headstock for sure, so that’s a bonus…
In the end, I just want it to function as close to perfect as I can get!!
I’m savvy with mods and handyman stuff, so that’s not a concern.
Just want some advice from someone on the process and if it’s worthwhile…
Oh yeah, my nut is also 42mm currently. It widens out as it goes and all; but it is just a little cluttered between the strings between at times. I feel a 43mm or something closer to a Gibson profile would really make this my dream guitar.
I’m all worked up today, as it’s Christmas, so pardon the disjointed barrage of words..

I'm not usually an SG fan but that Custom in Nordic Blue? WOWWWWW! GORGEOUS! That Metal Blueberry Burst is also stunning. Honestly, I had no idea they ever made an Epiphone version of Lzzy Hale's Explorer. I've had a Gothic Explorer since 2003 and would have loved to have this one 🥹 A Custom Explorer with the block inlays is my dream guitar.

Yo buddy merry Christmas i got the honey burst tribute its wonderfully a les Paul for sure the92 studio i picked up eas a gift fom God but the tributes hold there own the ebony on the 92 wins but the fell of the rosewood on the maple neck is a close second i love both
