Classic Mini Cross Member - Installed
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 сер 2021
- The existing cross member that I removed from the original floor panel is now installed onto my new Heritage Floor panel. Second to my heel board, this is the second series of actual plug and spot welding. My Classic Mini Restoration has made progress today.. Lone Star Mini
Good work as usual. I'm impressed with the anti rust precautions and not relying on things not rusting in Texas.
Thanks Stewart!! Whether my girls or somebody else, this mini will be owned by others one day. This Mini is going to withstand any environment.. I hope..
Randy, Superb job on the whole floor and as you say the rear trunnions don‘t always line up and some people will make the holes larger
which is stupid as the subframe alignment will be compromised and the rear wheels will crab, You must be very happy to see the shell
coming back together as it lifts your morale so much when you see all the smaller jobs cumulate in to the whole project. Cheers Dave
I too have heard ppl say they opened up the rear holes.. I'm pleased with my jig in that everything is lining up wonderfully. I am CONCERNED about this 'crabbing' business. I don't know what I don't know.. how to keep everything straight to prevent crabbing.
Love your attention to detail as always- looks fab matey - keep up the good work x
Thanks Kim.. I'm totally enjoying this journey...
Your friend gave you good advice about sealing the tin of POR 15. It certainly goes hard fast when exposed to air as I found out. Good idea putting it in the fridge. I noticed your POR went a dull black when it dried. When I used it, it stayed shiny black. Your Mini project is coming along well. Cheers, Midge
Thanks Midge.. I believe there are different POR products… perhaps you picked the gloss finish which is that I’ll use on anything external/visible. I’m considering to seal the entire undercarriage with it(??).
I can see you certainly enjoyed using the various tools you have especially the hole punch gun lol. It's great to see the little videos I see all put into one long video. It's coming on a treat Randy, your catching me up 😆
Thanks Paul.. With my mini spares order due in tomorrow, I will 'soon' finish the entire rear.. exciting!!
@@LoneStarMini Can't beat a fully finished rear!
Hi.. Your Mini is coming along now!.. I was worried about my rear subframe lining up too but the measure twice came in well 🤣🤣
Awesome Richard... I need to pull out the measurement diagrams showing diagonal dimensioning... Given I'm not working the front end at the same time, I'm a tad worried of overall squareness and what other term 'crabbing'. I'm doing all that I can to make it right!
looking good buddy, keep it going ;)
Thanks Brian!!
looking good bro
Thanks Stu!!
Some great progress Randy. I would definitely be investing in those spit welder extension arms, they will make your life so much easier and would have been great on the whole of the cross member
Yes.. I would love to have the 'extended' arms for the spot welder. it would have helped GREATLY with the cross member.
DB.. how long are your extensions?
Great work again Randy
Good review on the POR15, gonna get myself some of that
Thanks Mark!! While POR15 is on the expensive side, it may be one of the best best products to stop rust. I have not decided (yet) whether I will use it for the entire undercarriage and/or subframes.
@@LoneStarMini I'll use it on my undercarriage, not a big Gravitex/Raptor fan
Dont wear flip flops whilst welding should be on a t shirt.......love the vid
Thanks…. Right on…. I’ll have to create a fun graphic for the statement….
