Lol, thanks for watching! Woodworking is one of the gateways to knife making. Maybe just grab an anvil if you ever see one at an estate sale or something 😜
Turned out great!!! What kind of a press do you have? Is it homemade or did you buy it somewhere? It looks like it’s plenty capable while also having a smaller footprint!? Thanks for the video!
It's a 12-ton press from Coal Iron Works. It's a great press for the size and cost. The die surface is relatively small, but that's part of what makes it feel like it has more power than it does. I think at some point I'll upgrade to the 16-ton or the 25-ton, but I'm ultimately really happy with the purchase. If you are a hobby maker or just have a small workspace this press is perfect.
@@DavidMoonForge thanks for the feedback and information. Much appreciated!!! I want to attempt a Damascus blade here soon. The information on your videos is priceless!!! Thanks again!!!
I do it that way sometimes too. I think shaping the handle once it's glued up generally gives a more seamless feel. I agree with you that shaping before glue up has a nice look to it when you can see the pattern down the entire spine and tang.
Seeet looking knife! Do you re-etch the blade after you shape the handle to reveal the pattern on the spine and handle area or do you leave it? I use gun blueing to darken the spine or I coat the handle with wax and etch last.
Hey, thanks for watching. I left the spine and handle without re-etching on this knife, but I've done both before. I think I prefer re-etching though, so you can see the pattern throughout the whole spine and handle.
Absolutely beautiful, thank you for a great vid 🙏
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! 🤙

Great work, sir! Always wanted to get into smithing but I'll stick with wood for the time being lol

@@TheOGfrenchy you bet! Thanks for watching! Good luck on your first Damascus 🤙
Why not fit up the scales before etching the blade, so that you can see the pattern all around the tang?

It's funny how we have the same name and into knives.
I make tactical stuff, not chef's cutlery...
Do you ever set up for Blade?
No way, that's wild! 😂 I went to Blade Show Atlanta this year, but I didn't have a table. Do you have a website or socials I can check out?
Where did you get your press?
It's a 12-ton press from Coal Iron Works.
Competing with your music to talk sucks
Yeah, I finally cut out music altogether and just do voiceovers in my recent videos. I think that style seems to work out better for the viewer.
