Loved the podcast guys! Great to see Jeff on here too, sipping along with a bourbon and can’t believe 2 hours have gone by and so has a good quarter of the bottle 😮
Great episode. Jake, I started with bourbon, progressed to scotch and now have a hard time going back as well. When I do, I find myself gravitating to either ryes or 4-grain bourbons more often as they can be a little more dynamic/interesting.
this seems to be the standard journey into whiskies and that's an interesting point about 4 grain bourbons. I'll have to keep trying them as I clearly can find expressions that suit. all thanks to Charlotte for helping me discover this one
Thanks for another interesting episode. Although I'm not a bourbon man at all thank you for sharing your opinions to us.👍I'm really struggling every time I have any bourbon in my glass, but keep trying. All the best.
seems as though you're in a similar boat to me Yury. good man for continuing to explore and try it all though - there are definitely some winners out there! sláinte
I’m in the US…naturally the journey started with bourbons & rye…ultimately sought out other experiences in whisky because bourbon is so narrow banded as it relates to flavor profiles and aromatics….Malts are just so much more expansive of a world to enjoy! Bourbon vs Single Malts is akin to Coffee vs tea or cigars vs pipe tobacco….1 offers great narrow range of flavor and the other offers great wider array of profiles Great episode gents…funny to watch Jake squirm 😂…the blowing up the hill moment was freaking hilarious 😂
as an espresso fiend, I'm not sure I'd agree with your coffee vs tea remark. cigars vs pipe tobacco is an interesting one though! thanks for tuning in and getting involved Chaz; glad my lack of comfort in this one was a source of amusement for all! sláinte bud
I'm with you here Jake, I have drunk far too much Makers Mark and other Bourbons in my younger years, but only with coke I cant drink them straight, also great in cocktails, but for my palate bourbon can never replace a decent single Malt. Charlotte knows her stuff, great content once again
Charlotte is a trooper putting up with Jake's brutal honesty 😅. He's worse than my wife with whisky in general ("It all tastes like floor cleaner")! Bourbon is a tough one to get into, it's the virgin oak that's so dominant. Nice episode and keep the awesome guests coming!
Poor Charlotte was facing a massive uphill battle with Jake in the episode!! Really enjoyed listening to her knowledge of the brand. Oh Jake!! Don’t think this will be up there with your favourite tasting. Squirmed you way through it. Brutal. Stevie was loving it 🤣 If it makes you feel better I have the same issue picking flavours out of all whisky and I’m a chef who can easily do it with food/beer etc. Drives me bat shit crazy. 😤 I just know I like it. 😉🤣
I did struggle but I have to say, I left with more of an interest in MM than I ever could have imagined. always trying to broaden my horizons and Charlotte did an amazing job of getting us all involved with a deep dive into the brand. thanks for tuning in and supporting the channel, sláinte!
Charlotte's a star very knowledgeable and great at telling the story of Makers. Hilarious watching Jake trying to be polite but doing a terrible job of it good on you for being very honest .
Great episode and bourbon is something I haven’t tried much of apart from in the odd cocktail so defo something I would try. Hilarious watching Jake trying to be polite on this. Also with Ian and his “potty mouth” not being a big bourbon fan I understand why he wasn’t invited 😂
great stuff - let us know what you think! we need to be honest but we got Jeff along as another bourbon fan to keep things manageable for Charlotte. I think I was enough of a negative force to deal with!
I have a real soft spot for MM. I learned a lot from this interview, so thanks a lot! Also, you guys should have Jeff on more often. Dirty marshmallow fluff 😂 I think I’m going to go buy something else from MM now. Cheers!
Good choice of review and interesting guest in Charlotte. Jeff’s also great value. Wasn’t something I was interested in tbh but Jake’s honesty throughout this is admirable, and makes the video. Is bourbon trauma a thing? Made me laugh. Great remark Stevie. Haven’t had any MM since I worked in a cocktail bar many many years ago, always popular though. Cheers..
No mate. Too much whisky to explore😂.. Had a few Ryes but the few bourbons I have had seem a bit formulaic to me. I prefer extreme flavours whether that be at the prayer end or the fruity numbers.
I haven’t tasted it myself, but the cellar aged is HIGHLY sought after here in the states. Going for about 400 pounds. with that said I’m not a massive fan of bourbon myself and there are few that really do it for me. Next time I come to the UK I’ll have. To bring you guys some samples. Honestly, I do feel that for the most part bourbon does better in cocktails and does need to be at higher ABV.
The London one is good - you can get it at Seed Library or Low Country (who also have the Cellar Aged) in Shoreditch (and possibly some other London bars).
I had to chuckle at this episode the slights and digs at bourbon and I get it, for me I struggle to drink it straight but I really enjoy it in cocktails so I always have a bottle on the shelf and I just mix up brands for variety. Wild Turkey and Woodford Reserve are my favorite so far.
Also really struggle with Bourbon. Not had one to date where I have thought F yeah that’s good other than in cocktails. Can’t even pronounce it properly 😂 interesting episode none the less!
Bourbon to me, whether is rye or wheated brings the anise or licorice flavors. Others have that interesting banana (others call it maple) notes hint hint Tennessee whiskey. Agreed with Jake, at least my palate can't find more dimensions than one or two from regular bourbons.
The amount of knowledge from Charlotte was top tier, and it was great to see the Mr J Whiskay man himself! 👋🏻🍾 Kinda disappointed that there was no bottle slap, so I will unsubscribe now 😂
Another great episode. I’m on the Jake train when it comes to bourbon but to be honest I was the same way when I first starting with scotch. I’m still open to trying new things and if there’s one thing I’ve learned from scotch is that your tastebuds can change. All we ask is that people keep an open mind and be respectful of what’s in the glass.
I’m with you Jake bourbons shite! Only joking, but I do find it one dimensional and quite dull. Tried quite a few but never really done anything for me unless in cocktail form. Tried a couple of iterations of Balcones American Single Malt though - absolutely delicious, well worth a try. Enjoyed this episode a lot more than I enjoy bourbon though, entertaining stuff, slainte
F*ck me Jake. Dinny hold back pal will ya 🤣. Bet I have a bourbon that might swing it for you ! William larue Weller is unreal also. Tbh I went through a stage of only drinking bourbon for about 2 months and only then did I start to pick out the nuance of bourbons. They can feel samey at times otherwise. Maybe that’s the key. 👍
you know me MM, honest to a fault. always happy to try something else but you can't be offended if I think it's shite! not sure if two months dedicated to bourbon is something I want to do at the moment, but I'll keep it in mind. sláinte my friend
2 hours of mouth asmr - it's terrible, I'm sorry but it just is Content-wise - loved it. Maker's cs is one of my favorite bourbons, so it was interesting for me to hear more about MM from Charlotte. Plus, it's funny and fascinating how Jake, with his developed palate, can't find flavors in MM)
Great episode and really interesting to hear about Makers history. Charlotte was great to listen to and clearly passionate about the Makers brand. BUT, I'm with Jake, I've tried hard to like Bourbon, but I just don't get it and having a sweet tooth, I thought it would be an obvious go-to for me. Clearly my issue as bourbon is a huge market and loved by a lot of people, its just not for my palate.
glad I'm not the only one Alan! Charlotte was the saving grace of this for me and in honesty I have so much interest in the brand now so it's a big win as far as I'm concerned
lot's of misinformation about Maker's Mark from the rep. Wheat bourbons had been around for ages like Weller ,Old Fitzgerald and others and it is said that Samuel's original Maker's Mark was so bad that they had Pappy come in and help them create a good bourbon. That's the story of Maker's Mark but they probably don't want the reps. telling about Pappy because of competition with other wheated bourbons
Absolute blast being on for this one! Cheers to bushy Whisky!
Ooooosh!
Get off that wallet Jeff 😂. She can only kill us once remember
Haha great descriptor Jeff. Here’s to it!!
definitely a new one there bud!
Thank you for having me! It was a lot of fun :)
you're welcome any time Charlotte!
Loved the podcast guys! Great to see Jeff on here too, sipping along with a bourbon and can’t believe 2 hours have gone by and so has a good quarter of the bottle 😮
glad to hear you were dramming along! sláinte my friend

Jeff brings the bush 🤣🤣 Top episode and will be hunting for the CS
he does indeed! glad we've swung a purchase - let us know your thoughts when you get it!

Charlotte did an incredible job putting up with me - I don't think anyone else could have got me as excited about a bourbon brand
Poor Charlotte was facing a massive uphill battle with Jake in the episode!! Really enjoyed listening to her knowledge of the brand.

Great episode. A brand I’ve seen in supermarket but never tried. Keen to give it a go. As always more power to you guys, keep up the good work.
thanks for tuning in Brian, glad you enjoyed it! definitely worth getting involved with MM
Charlotte's a star very knowledgeable and great at telling the story of Makers. Hilarious watching Jake trying to be polite but doing a terrible job of it good on you for being very honest .
honest to a fault Colin! glad you enjoyed Charlotte leading us through this one though - you're right, she's a legend
Stevie should have just interviewed Charlotte, Jesus! 😂
enough said!

“It’s super bushy” 😂😂😂 ROFL
one of the more interesting notes I've heard
nice episode, fun to watch Jake struggle.
Charlotte was great,.but i get Jake with the bourbon. i struggle getting past the corn notes.
glad I'm not the only one Erwin!
Cheers..
thanks Tim, glad you enjoyed this one! would you be a bourbon man yourself?
No mate. Too much whisky to explore😂.. Had a few Ryes but the few bourbons I have had seem a bit formulaic to me. I prefer extreme flavours whether that be at the prayer end or the fruity numbers.
Prayer end? Meant peaty end!!
@@timpowles7514 I hear that! sounds like we're singing off the same hymn sheet bud

sounds like we're on a similar wave length here Leo! thanks for tuning in and getting involved bud, sláinte

nice one Matt, good looking out!

Love me some Makers Mark
have you tried many from this lineup?
Maker's Mark casks used by Loch Lomond & Laphroaig 👍
good whisky geek knowledge!
Bourbon to me, whether is rye or wheated brings the anise or licorice flavors. Others have that interesting banana (others call it maple) notes hint hint Tennessee whiskey. Agreed with Jake, at least my palate can't find more dimensions than one or two from regular bourbons.
I'm glad I'm not the only one! can['t say I've ever found banana in a bourbon, but I'll sure be looking for it now
The amount of knowledge from Charlotte was top tier, and it was great to see the Mr J Whiskay man himself! 👋🏻🍾
Kinda disappointed that there was no bottle slap, so I will unsubscribe now 😂
What is happening. Here for this
glad to have you join us!
As a huge fan of yours I’m disappointed that you didn’t like any of these. I can’t enjoy peated whiskey no matter how hard I try so I get it.
sorry Greg but we have to be honest! I'm always happy to try something though and we got to a winner by the end of this episode

love this Jan - couldn't have said it better myself. sláinte my friend
If it's not for you it is what it is. Props for trying anyway.
always worth a try Tim!
I haven't tried many bourbouns yet, the Buffalo Trace 35ml I bought hasn't impressed me so I am unsure if I will try many tbh
it's always worth exploring more as you never know what you'll find!
I’m with you Jake bourbons shite!
Only joking, but I do find it one dimensional and quite dull. Tried quite a few but never really done anything for me unless in cocktail form. Tried a couple of iterations of Balcones American Single Malt though - absolutely delicious, well worth a try.

sorry Dmitry but it comes with the territory! glad you enjoyed the episode though - are you a bug fan of bourbons?
