  • In this video I upgrade the wire (big 3) in the wrx to help with voltage issues! Check out the video to see how it goes.

    Was trying to figure out what was wrong with my sound system that I installed years ago on my 99 wrx - this video helped me realise that when I did my engine swap, I connected my added body ground to the engine not the battery negative.. hoping this helps!

    That's right! 😉👍 8 AWG is better than nada, zip, zero, zilch.
    It could cost more in the long run to upgrade to a larger gauge and not everyone wants that much power drain.
    Excellent Parker!

      Thanks! Too many people aren’t practical about this sort of thing and think everything has to be built for a dang 10k watt system 😂

    Alternator has a built in voltage regulator or possibly an external one. You can bypass it or just get a bigger alternator and battery and this will help some with voltage drop and dimming lights.

      If your voltage is ecu controlled, try running with your headlights on, it should allow your alt to charge at 14.4v.. I just put something over the headlight sensor on the dash so it thinks it's dark and the headlight stay on, I also run a mechman 370a elite though. So my voltage sits strong wherever it is, usually around 13.6 ~14v but with lights on its 14.4 to 15.2v. My deaf bonce 4k puts out a lot of power at 15.2v you can definitely tell a difference

    If you pull that digital gauge that has a low reading out of its pod. It should have a dial on it somewhere to adjust the voltage to match your actual voltage of the battery and alternator.

    Soldering always was what I do... Just put it in a vise put your connector on and heat some solder and let it flow through the wire till comes out the bottom a little bit then you know you got it filled with solder but your way looks like it worked all right to... Also the Subaru looks nice what's the horsepower on that

      Thanks man! Soldering if definitely always the better option.
      The car used to make 257whp on the old 2.0 engine. I put a fully built 2.5 in it last fall and it’s been on a break in turn ever since so not sure on the HP. However, it runs better 1/8 mile times not than it used to and is only tuned to 11 lbs of boost.
      As soon as classes are over I’m going to upgrade the injectors and have it retuned for more HP

    you may not see a full 14 volts on the inside gauge, depending on how you wired it. if it goes through the fuse box/ECU, you can probably bet it runs through a regulator. I dont think I've owned a car that read over 13 volts at the 12 volts socket/through the fuse boxes.(maybe the Buick i had) only at the battery/alternator do i ever see those voltages.

  • @tankdog03ify
    @tankdog03ify 5 років тому +2

    U should put the crimp on the back side of the lug, and use the proper sized lug or it will not crimp on all the strands and actually cause a bad connection.. and don't use cca wire, it defeats the whole purpose of doing a big 3, you want high quality ofc copper only.. cca creates heat and hest causes voltage drop.. you have the right idea though.. use adhesive line heat shrink to avoid air from getting to the copper.. I actually use tinned lugs and tinned ofc copper, it's the best there is and will last my lifetime.. all copper lugs outside of yhe vehicle will 100% corrode or change color if not covered in dielectric grease.. so use tinned lugs next time.. u want to do this right the first time and never need to redo it again

      Without watching the video all the way through I was thinking to myself that if the voltage is low at rest this upgrade won't fix it.
      Battery replacement then have your alternator replaced, preferably with something bigger.

    • @ParkerTheBasshead
      @ParkerTheBasshead  5 років тому

      The alt has been tested and is good. I’ve tested the wires at other places in the car and get similar results as the gauge so think there is a problem somewhere else. 17 year old car with 180k on it so not too surprising
