    Hi there! Check under this pinned comment for corrections and other information:
    Feel free to use the ideas in here for mods, fangames, or your own games. Just spread some good word about me as payment!
    This video was recorded in the woods of Maine, which is why you may hear wilderness sounds.

    Ngl, another move based gimmick doesn't sound very enticing. I feel like we already hit the peak of gimmicks, and would rather have previous gimmicks return with reworks, rather than creating new ones just to ditch later.

      I did like some of those older mechanics. I'm usually more interested in moves, pokémon, and effects. This video is a prediction rather than a request. Based on how Pokémon seems to implement ideas, I'm expressing a case for a mechanic that could occur.
      It's kind of like explaining Climate Change-- You don't WANT it, but you can recognize and explain the patterns and predictions nonetheless.

      I agree. I'm fine with the big battle gimmicks, but I tend to get more excited for new moves, items, abilities, pokémon, field effects, etc.
      Talking among friends back in 2018, I was explaining to someone about how you could use 1 mega and 1 z-move per battle. Somehow the discussion went to future gimmicks, and I was trying to pitch a way to change typings mid battle. If I was actually a UA-camr back then, I could have made a video about it, and "predicted Terastallization". The real mechanic works so much better than I proposed. My version was a type change that didn't give retain STAB after switching or grant super STAB if you transform into the same type. However, you could just switch types from a menu using interchangeable patches.
      Anyway, I missed out on that prediction, and though it was wildly different than what we really got, it was a great proof of concept and thought experiment.
      This time around, I'm a part-time UA-camr, so I'm throwing the proof of concept out there. If I'm wrong and pokémon never does it, and never mentions experimenting with it (and failing) in some interview, then it's fair game for anyone else to make use of for their game/mod.

    We don’t need move fusion, we need moves to be modified to be dual typed. Muddy Water should’ve been a ground-water move since the beginning!
    But you know what? I like the idea of it being a generation gimmick more than I don’t watching this video. You make a convincing argument with these interesting concepts.

    I rarely hear of ideas for new gimmicks so I'm glad you made this video. I know I'm in the minority when I say I actually really enjoy the gimmicks they've been giving in the recent gens. To me, it makes each gen feel more unique and concrete in its own identity. I think it goes a long way into making the games' battles feel different unlike the first 5 gens. They also usually tie into the story and lore of the games as well, so on all points I really dig them. Move fusion sounds interesting, I think something similar to this is more likely than another form changing gimmick honestly.

    • @CammyMeeleTea
      @CammyMeeleTea  Рік тому +5

      Yes. Since species are no longer guaranteed to be available in future games, they're likely going to avoid special form changes. At least as generational gimmicks. Regional forms and convergent evolutions will still probably keep coming. If we get form changes, it will probably stick to legendary/mythical pokémon so that we have to go to distribution events and do raids or buy DLC. Or they will give it to Pikachu, Charizard, or Mewtwo.

    • @thekirbyguy4576
      @thekirbyguy4576 Рік тому +2

      @@CammyMeeleTeaI agree, I'm glad you're taking more realistic factors into account. By the way, about the exact implementation of the mechanism, I think we may have to think out of the box. Instead of having some sort of parameter or prerequisite beforehand like an item, what if using a fused move made it so the PP of both moves used decreased drastically, like by 5, or even 10, maybe depending on the strength of the move. This would undoubtedly add a huge cost to actually using the move, making it so you can't just use it to cover the weaknesses of a potential switch in, you'd have to think carefully because it could put two of your four moves out of commission. It could also lower the power of those moves for the rest of the battle potentially, though not by a lot. I think a way to make it so Pokemon with limited coverage aren't severely worse off would be to not only increase the damage boost by a lot if you fuse two moves of the same type, but also double the STAB if the Pokemon shares the same type of that move, though combined with Adaptability, that may just be a straight up nuke. There's definitely nuance to this, and a lot of ways it could work, but personally I'd say not to dwell on it too much. None of the official mechanics made by Game Freak ended up being perfect either, they all had their own shortcomings.

    If there are too many combinations, they could only use the ones that are super effective against the other, like the pledge moves or flying press, but something like fire and poison wouldn't work. Also, the effect of the move could be determined by the "weaker" type, for example: You have a charizard in the field and a Lando-T in the back, you fuse charizard's fire type and Lando-T's ground type to create a move, this said move would trigger the fire effect and so on

      Yeah, there is a lot that happened in Black and White that no one remembers I feel. Or they didn't play it. It was an odd generation. Inverse battles, Pledge moves, Wonder Room, Magic Room, Telekinesis, Triple battles, rotation battles, PokerStars studios, Seasonal changes every month, doubles grass, exclusively Unovan pokémon. It was crazy.
      It was too new to be nostalgic, and a lot of people who quit playing pokémon were people that quit before Generation V.
      Plus the game's sequels came out when people were moving on to 3DS stuff.
      Then pokémon became "cool" again when X and Y came out, and since so many people got back in with X and Y, they didn't talk about Black and White.
      Black and White was so refreshingly different. And it was cool to have my home city be a little represented. It pulls from all over North America, but as a teen, a lot of it felt like NYC to me.

    I don't think you can really call this a gimmick, but a new mechanic I would like to see is something I call "move +". With this mechanic, we would remove abilities such as strong jaw, and instead, bake their effects into the moves of certain Pokémon. Lots of Pokémon seem to be designed for using particular moves, but strangely, they are actually no better at using these moves than others. For example, Hypno's hypnosis, Blastoise's Hydro Pump and Flash Cannon, Wigglytuff's sing, Venusaur's Solar Beam, Electrode's explosion, etc. The improved effects might be with accuracy, power, or secondary effects. For example, "Hypnosis +" and "Sing +" could have 90% accuracy, fang moves could have 50% increased power, "Hydro Pump +" could have 90% accuracy and 120 power, "Explosion +" could paralyze surviving enemies, etc.

    You should be a lawyer, you're very persuasive lmao. This idea scares me for how powerful it is, as well as it's probable use as a generational gimmick (which I am beyond sick of), but I do think it has potential. The idea of having it forced onto an item which the opponent will know pre-battle seems the most fair to me, as it not only uses the item slot but opponents can fairly play around the options you have available because they aren't just playing blind into an absurd amount of combinations. At the least, this was a fun thought experiment about the potentials this idea has!

    • @CammyMeeleTea
      @CammyMeeleTea  Рік тому +2

      Yeah, it looks like generation gimmicks are the norm for now. Patterns are patterns, right?
      It looks like they want to shy away from gimmicks that could be limited to any species because it's no longer standard to have every single pokémon transferable anymore.
      I do like that the mechanic is kind of like guessing Hidden Powers again. Based on what coverage a pokémon doesn't have and what a pokémon wants to hit, you can deduce what Hidden Power they are running. I wanted to capture that again, and to give weird effects a time in the spotlight.
      Also, I appreciate they lawyer compliment. I got that a lot as a kid. Though...my parents and teachers didn't mean it in a nice way...

    For a way to activate the mechanic a cool way could be in the pokeball itself, I think it was either gen 4 or 5 where you could apply stickers to your pokeball that played a custom animation when the pokemon is sent out, this could be something similar like you apply the fire sticker to your serperior's pokeball and now it can access fire mixing, but your opponent will be able to expect it since they will know which pokeball animation corresponds with which type, could be a cool way to apply tue mechanic without needing to abandon your normal held item, just how teras work now

    This is an interesting concept, and something I'd be interested in developing on my fakemon podcast...
    My thought for balancing is you have to actually combine two moves - with one Pokémon, you select a move but have it delay a turn, like a charging move, then that move combines with the next move selected. In doubles, that would still be an option, but you could instead select to combine the moves of the two Pokémon you have out. This would grant greater application in doubles, but not render it useless in singles.
    Still needs further development, but that's how I'd like to take it

    I love the idea of move fusion. I think it could function by combining your first 2 moves in your slots to make one. So youd only have 3 moves but 1 of them has the properties of 2, which is a fair trade I think. It would also only have like 3 pp like dynamax. It could also function as two pokemon combining one of their moves together in doubles, but you can only use it once. That would keep crazy broken combinations to a minimum.

    • @CammyMeeleTea
      @CammyMeeleTea  Рік тому

      That could be an interesting way to do it. And I definitely agree it's hard keeping broken combinations limited. It's definitely very difficult to balance a mechanic like that, make it intuitive, make it flexible, and make it a reasonable level of predictable.
      It's not an idea I want or don't want to happen. It just seems like a possibility the Game Freak thought about it. Generation 5 was such an experimental time. It was my favorite Generation mechanically. The pledges, stuff like Sky Drop, and all sorts of other jank moves. I love that so much.
      Hopefully, I can find someone to take the idea and puts it into a mod so we can test it.

    They have fusion moves like in the anime in gen 3 and gen 4. Fusing move was technically supposed to be in the games like in gen 3 but it got cut or was thought about probably during gen 3’s development. As seen in the diamond and pearl anime and the AG anime. They could do fusions in pokemon in gen 10 since they have done this. They’ve done mega evolution, z moves, dynamax and gigantic max, and Tera with changing types. They also had the gem type moves in gen 5. I have liked 3 out of four gimmicks that they have added. I liked mega evolution in gen 6, z moves in gen 7, and Tera in gen 9. As well as the gem types in gen 5. I could see combining moves or pokemon fusions as a gimmick in gen 10 or no gimmick in gen 10.

    Just make attack fusions like Pledges except the 2nd Pokemon still get to move for that turn. Depending on type combined, there would be effects (if same type the damage is boosted). The fused move also keeps both move's original effects, unlike with Z-Moves. For example, if you combine Nuzzle with Flower Gift, it'll never miss, would crit and paralyze the target even if it's Ground-type.

    I feel like move fusion could either be a one time per battle or one per pokémon, depending on execution. For example, I think status moves could fuse, like spore and swords dance, where it becomes "effect & buff", a generic name for all self status plus enemy status fusions, the effect wouldnt turn gwnwric though, ans it would be an actual fusion
    Another gimmick I can imagine is changing abilities, like a Almost Any Abiity format, but I suppose choosing Wonder Guard would give you a "your pokemon cant do that!" message,for the best... Mega pokémon essentially can have two abilities in battle, it could be similar, but the abilities you could select would be limited to a few, my list would include:
    -Merciless
    -Shell Armor
    -Synctonize
    -Trace
    -Aerilate, Refrigerate, Pixelate
    -Infiltrator
    -Tinted lens

    The problem with dual-type moves is they're a nightmare to calculate against.
    Go ahead, try and think of what would resist or be weak to a ground-poison move.
    Even for people that memorized the whole type chart, going back and mentally correcting advantages/disadvantages for a type while keeping the other in mind is very hard. Couple that with dual type opponents and it's really difficult.

  • @Flintkarson

    With how astronomically busted the offense is starting to get, I wouldn't be surprised if how it would work is your mon has a "latent" type, and activating it would combine with a move you know, adding its super effective types to your selected move - Latent electric gives water and flying super effective damage to earthquake. There is no way they would add 153 unique combinations, though, so each latent type would likely do something a Z or max move did - that earthquake hits a flying super effectively, and sets electric terrain. However. I also don't see this being enough for a selling point that moves an extra 5 million units... so 🤷‍♀

  • @8bitwiseman

    Was thinking of something similar, where the types have a “partner” that when activated with the gimmick the Pokémon could obtain the advantages of their/any partner types, either offensively (stab of new type, but receive weaknesses) or defensively (resistances and immunities but lose original type’s stab).
    As a fun bonus, pokemon who have both of their paired types would get a stronger form similar to Mega Evolution (Golem is Ground/Rock, Spiritomb is Dark/Ghost, Whimsicott is Grass/Fairy, etc) Except legendaries, since they could be seen as their typings in the purest form (So Turtonator would receive a new form, but Reshiram won’t)

    Personally, instead of having it be a once-per-battle thing, I think it'd be nice if it was committed to by a held item but simply applied the type properties of the added type on top of the selected move, with maybe a 20% power buff and not working with moves already of that type.

Then have Pokémon 2 select fuse and then select an ice attack. Then like pledge moves have the faster Pokémon wait for the slower Pokémon. The you get your fusion attack. The only problem like you said would be that this would be exclusive to double and triple battles but I actually think they could simply make a Pokémon game where almost every important battle is a double battle and have more regular double battle trainer pairs out in the world. There would still be plenty of single battle trainers too.

    Really interesting idea, I'd be curious about how they'd implement the type advantages because unfortunately dual-type moves are realllllly bad for the most part.
    Take BoltBeam for example, as 2 separate moves it's excellent coverage but together it's only s/e on flying, ground types are immune to it, 12 types take neutral damage and 4 types resist it. EdgeQuake is another example, sure fire types take 4x but flying types are immune and it's neutral on steel types etc.
    I like your idea of effects for each type combo but I feel like that would be the sole reason to use the fusion as in most situations you would probably just rather use the single attack and do more damage because it is super effective than power it up and do neutral or resisted damage.

    • @CammyMeeleTea

      Exactly, that's the hard part. Like Z-moves and Max Moves could be negated by immunities so, even if this did Z-move or max move level damage, you'd have the same issue. You're timing it just to automate a (hopefully) strong effect, and big damage at the same time.
      I'm finishing up the potential effects to get that sorted out. As for Base Power, I have no idea. Because that needs testing, like not just theory crafting, but a coded test.
