Mike, I just replaced my own rotted-out cleanout door with the same one you used here. I followed your steps exactly, and it looks completely professionally done. I've never done a masonry project before, and without this video, I never would have had the confidence to try this. Thank you!
Thanks Jonathan, Mike
Where did you get the clean out door?
Old school, no big deal. When you said you have no chisel, I thought “Here comes the axe!” - but it wasn’t needed. Thanks Mike!
Thanks Bill, Mike
You just saved me $150. Thanks!
Thanks Glorious, Mike
Excellent, thanks Mike, I was entertained and now there's one more thing I understand how to do ! You rock! 🎉
Thanks Gary, Mike
Nice work, Mike. I'm happy to see Honest Jardy upgraded to a high-falutin' head lamp. He deserves a little luxury!

Thanks Blackcat,, I appreciate hearing that, Mike
@@MikeHaduck Hello. This is off the path of this particular video but I can’t seem to find a video from you on this subject. One of my blocks in basement has been punched through to run a water pipe from inside basement to my barn 50 feet away so I can have water in my barn. I noticed Inside basement wall started leaking along floor meets wall. Just about where that pipe lead through. So I chiseled that Bock around the pipe in inside until I could see where the pipe went into the outside on same block. Sure enough it was not patched good and water in ground found it’s way in. I need to break that block away enough inside to reach my hand in there to patch the inside of same block that presses against earth. My question is PLEASE do you have a video on this? I’ve been looking at your videos for hours to get advice on this patch job. What do I use? Can I squirt the hydronic concrete I mix in and around that Sloppy pipe hole? I truly hope you see this message. Sorry so long. Be kind. I am 67yr old lady, 🙂 and I have to do this job myself. I truly appreciate your help. Judy
Hey Mike... Boy aren't you just in time with this video ... I have to repair my clean out. I am in the middle of making a damper handle as they do not make one for my 1947 fireplace. So I designing my own, nothing great but it will open and close. Then I get to repair the clean out.... Looks like an easy job.... Thanks again you Master Mason..... God Bless Ernie
Thanks Ernie, God bless also, Mike
I just watched this 9/12/23, I am hoping I am strong enough to remove the old one and do this.I talked to a chimney sweep and he told me how to clean it out thank you for the excellent video.Single gals need more like this!
Thanks Rene, Mike
I have a quick question do you have to turn the pilot light out to do this?
Hi, I don't know the set up of your furnace, I never remembering doing it with the chimneys I worked on. It's best to ask your plumber, Mike
I did work in a house for a presale preparation and the clean out door was in bad shape. If you posted this last year I would have offered to do it myself but I didn’t know it was this simple so I didn’t.
Another excellent video, no big deal 👍. Thanks again Mike.
Thanks Clint, Mike
Have the identical clean out door still in the box waiting for me to install. Now I know how to do it. Thanks so much.

A few years ago my in-laws were getting their fireplace cleaned out by my other brother in law and I snuck down there and stuffed a fake Halloween skull up it that looked real and positioned it to fall at the slightest touch, and then went upstairs to wait for the scream! 🙂
Thanks Joe, perfect. Lol, Mike
txs for sharing...
Thanks Tom, Mike
I like how you just used your gloved hand to pack the martyr around the clean out door. Am wondering that you did not wet the surface when you packed the outside of the door ??

I wish you were in Ohio, I need some old stone foundation work done and a new chimney clean out installed too. I like your work
Thanks, Mike
When metal in chimneys rust out I always check the chimney for obstructions. You can use a mirror.
Hi G, I do, Mike
BTW…….Thank you, great vid
Thanks Denise, Mike
These are excellent for drafting a chimney if on the outside of the house. Everyone knows a fireplace sucks a huge amount of air from inside the house, but if you open this, the vacuum goes away.
Thanks, Mike
My cleanout door is cast iron, Smith Matthews Fory Co. Detroit.
That's good, hope it works out, Mike

Quick and easy no big deal. Give em' the invoice for $1k and find a bunch more of these jobs.
Hi, ii was only 30 dollar charge, not a big deal, Mike
I have a 3-flue chimney at my house. And one day I heard banging in the basement. I went downstairs and found a squirrel running around down there. He apparently came down one of the flues and exited into the cellar because the latch wasn't working on one of the flue clean out doors. I have since put a chimney cap over the entire chimney and have barricaded the clean out door with an old piece of cement concrete pier. End of the squirrel problem.
Thanks A, I belive it, Mike
Do you use RAPID SET Bondo on your used car lot too?
Hi yoga, actually my uncle did use cement for a rusted hole and they inspected it, go figure, Mike
We recently replaced our clean out door with a similar cast iron one. However ours is outdoors. What would your recommend to treat an outdoor door like this to prevent the cast iron from rusting? I figure I can’t season it like my pans… 😂
Hi Jordan, I just keep it up like anything else that needs a little paint now and then, thanks Mike
Did you make a video of that old wood cookstove in your house?
Hi Lucan, someday I will thanks Mike
Where can I buy a clean out door for a 6" x 8" opening? The 50s are calling!
Hi, try a chimney, wood burning store, thanks Mike
what do you think of using that masonry caulk to glue it on?
Hi Shad, I can't say, I never use it, Mike
Is it worthwhile to add a couple ounces of that acrylic bonder liquid to the mix for this job for more adhesion?
Hi Philip, I never used it and I never had a problem, thanks Mike
Question uncle mike, those door coming in different side or they are standard measure?
Hi Juan, that is standard for that size chimney, but you could buy bigger ones for fireplace chimneys etc, thanks mike
Where did you purchase the door I need the replace my son's one in his house.
Hi Scott, usually any plumbing or box store or fireplace store, thanks Mike
stay small keep it all !
Thanks Dave, Mike
Hi Mike, I’m in MD, about how much should I expect to be charged for this job?
Hi Denise, I can't say, running around for the materials is usually the bigger cost, thanks Mike
Could you have added a mechanical Fastener on the inside?
Hi Fernando, no reason, you can see how hard it was to get the old one out, thanks Mike
Are these supposed to be airtight? As soon as the furnace comes on near it in the basement it pulls tons of smoke into the basement.
I’ve tried to find a new door online that has a rubber wall on the door, or something similar. Can’t find anything like that.
Hi, you might have a blocked chimney, or a downdraft, which occurs when the chimney is cold and air is going down instead of up, or the air is going up somewhere else in the house and pulling it down the chimney , or your chimney is not high enough, lots of reasons, I never seen a door with rubber seal but I have seen plumbers caulk them, thanks Mike
How much did you get paid for this?
Hi Mike ,30 dollars, for a friend, Mike
Find any money inside?
Hi Saul, no I looked, Mike
Will the owner use those plastic Christmas decorations as fuel? Just kidding. It looks a little too close boiler.
Hi 1st, good question, lol, Mike
“Just pack it in there. Make sure you wear a rubber glove “. Glad I’m not watching this at the library .
Thanks Nomad, Mike
I enjoyed it very much. Keep it up. #1 view provider Promo`SM!!
Thanks Ben, Mike
