I was homeless in the US for around 6mo. But i did not want to alk about the experience either, and still dont, to people in my life whose judgments do affect me. When horrible things happen people do not like to talk about them, because they are still trying to get distance from the events.

Yes, talking about not trusting military accounts, there’s a YT video about female Israeli soldiers, where one relates an incident involving soldiers’ abuse of a Palestinian boy. It had been reported, so a commander had to do an investigation. She was like an assistant to the commander and was told to have the soldiers write their account, which they did and admitted the abuse. She took the report back and was told to go back and tell them to revise it - twice, until the commander was satisfied no blame would be placed on the soldiers/IDF.

This is a brilliant point about abuse survivors and oral testimony (oral history/ethnography/qualitative research/witness statements in courts) ---- even as **therapists** people struggle to disclose traumatic events. Some clients take years to open up. They don't want to. They want therapy and support and human connection, but the last thing they want is to rip the scar tissue out the wound to look inside the wound. The example sounds like hyperbole, but psychologically, that is what we ask of people as therapists, sociologists, ethnographers, and historigraphers.

Part 1 of this interview added context to the history of this conflict that I was not aware of. Probably the best explanation of settler colonialism that I have heard. He lost me in his defence of the victim, as more believable because they have suffered. Also his point that oral memory should be believable. Oral memory typical recounts stories without proper context and omits the part that makes you part of the problem. Unfortunately now I am uncertain of the facts he presented in part 1, which gave me context to historical facts I was already aware of. I was starting to have some sympathy for the Palestinian cause.

You can find today, people of Afghanistan recounting the massacres committed by Alexander The Great, almost a thousand years before the advent of Islam in the region, and more than two thousand years from now.
